river is a struggling writer who feels stuck with his career. his most popular book is a haunting tale of a man whose house burned down. the man survived the fire but his past won't leave him alone. his other novels are not selling well.

river is engaged to a wealthy woman but he hasn't found happiness with her. he plans to marry her in the near future anyway. his family history keeps him tied to the high society.

everything changes when his childhood friend samara arrives in the city with her new born son. she claims that his father died during the war but really there's something off about the story and the way samara is behaving. river and samara haven't met since their teenage years but they have been writing to each other every month. yet samara failed to inform there was a man in her life and that she was to be a mother.

samara is wild and carefree just like river remembers her. she lives life at its fullest and it's causing the people in their society to frown upon her.

the two start a secret affair. it makes river feel more alive than he has in years.

afraid of causing a scandal and ruining river's reputation, samara and her son disappear all of a sudden without a trace.

river makes a choice to end his engagement and goes looking for samara in hopes of starting a life with her away from the high society. will he find her?
