introducing: apolline "crookshanks" mcgonagall in limerence

Minerva McGonagall never had children of her own, but that was quite alright, because she had her niece and nephew, Apolline and Francis. They were all she needed by way of the next generation of McGonagalls, a sentiment that was well agreed upon across the board once they had enrolled at Hogwarts. She never expected them to be as much of a handful as they were. Or, more specifically, Apolline.

The Marauders were by no means "the bad crowd," but that didn't make them particularly good, either. And in her fifth year, Apolline, now lovingly dubbed "Crookshanks," happened to fall into their little group, to the surprise of no one. A cat, rat, dog, wolf, and stag. A nursery rhyme waiting to happen. She was perfectly suited to their chaos — she had a talent for trouble, and was a magnet for mayhem.

She was James' courage — she liked to take credit for James having said anything to Lily Evans at all. She was Sirius' warmth — so often was he left cold and flinching from the hollow of Grimmauld Place that Apolline was the only one who could touch him without him thrashing away. Remus' comfort, especially on the wax and wane. And she was Peter's trust; always the first to know of anything and everything that happened to him... Until she wasn't any more (but that's a story for another time).

So it had been quite natural of them to be protective of her when Remus' estranged cousin returned to town. But Romulus Greyback Howell had nothing but good intentions. Or so she hoped.

She should've known better.

I have a few, so I'll do it for Romulus, Apolline, and The Countess.

Romulus Greyback (Marauder's Era)

His sister was the only survivor of the attack, only because she hid. She was rendered mute as a result of the trauma. Romulus visits her every Sunday.

He can play the guitar, something he does to keep a control of his explosive temper, which is usually exacerbated during the time of the full moon.

He's deathly allergic to bees.

He really hates being a werewolf. He doesn't like it, doesn't agree with much of what Greyback says or does, but there's that father-son bond between them that prevents Romulus from leaving. Fenrir is all he really has.

He's actually more of a cat person.

Apolline McGonagall (Marauder's Era)

She is not the Crookshanks in Prisoner of Azkaban. That's her brother, Francis, whose Animagus is also a cat (the McGonagalls are a cat family, it's now canon). Her Animagus is jet black and quite small. Her brother adopts the name in her honour while he's pursuing her betrayer.

She really hates chocolate, but carries it around everywhere she goes one week before the wax, and one week after the wane of the full moon. She does it for Remus, who claims that "chocolate heals all," and plies him with a block every now and then when she can tell he's struggling.

She's the one you answer to first if you pick on Peter. And if you survive, it's the rest of the Marauders second.

Apolline is quite literally tone-deaf, but that will not stop her from singing. At all. She discovered Queen while visiting Lily and Mary in muggle London during the summer, and promptly fell in love.

Her nail polish is always chipped. New coat, five minutes ago? Chipped.

Countess Orla (A Series of Unfortunate Events)

She and Olaf didn't quite grow up together. They only saw each other during school holidays, both of them having gone to respective boarding schools. Orla and Esmé Squalor were actually roommates at one point. It also explains her very haughty British accent.

She was the black sheep of the family for the longest time. She was a bit of a pyromaniac, which rubbed her father, chief of the city's official fire department the wrong way.

Her speech at his funeral was very short: she recommended he be cremated.

She used to make costumes for Olaf's plays before she was scouted and became quite famous. She is a master of disguise, and was also asked by Olaf to make Kit's wedding dress when they were engaged.

She's aromantic, which she discovered on a blind date with Jacques Snicket (at the insistence of Esmé, who'd been dating Lemony at the time).
