Supernatural , Season 5 , Ep. 3
Free to Be You and Me
“It’s an archangel , the one who killed me”
“Excuse me?”
“His name is Raphael”
“You were wasted by a teenage mutant ninja angel?”
Ladies and Gentlemen , Dean Winchester
Oh my god i don’t even need to say anything about this episode , i can just post a bunch of quotes
“..when humans want something really , really bad , we lie”
*Dean , while casually adjusting Cas’s tie*
“Why?”
“Because , that’s how you become president “
Ladies and Gentlemen , Dean Winchester once again.
This episode is just sinfully funny , I thought it would be devastatingly sad with Dean and Sam going separate ways , but oh my , seeing Cas’s expression at the bar is so funny.
Hahaha Cas making the girl run off is hilarious.
Dean is out there healing by having a fun time , and Sam is out there healing by talking it out with someone. They’re great brothers and all , but they needed this. They heal in different ways.
I also have a feeling that the girl sam is talking to is gonna die.
“But today , you’re my little bitch” - Cas
“What he said “ - Dean
No comments necessary.
Sam is Lucifer’s vessel , Dean is Michael’s Vessel , and they’re gonna fight , I was soo right this keeps becoming Able and Cain coded.

ask and you shall receive! because I wanted an excuse to ramble about it :) (it's only seven songs so far but I'm also only partway through the series)
I already deposited this in your ask box cat-with-a-dead-bird-style but it was the first one on the playlist (for obvious reasons) (it's so winchester coded and also occasionally cas)
1) religious allegory with paul and peter! 2) "the keys to the kingdom got locked inside the kingdom/and the angels fly around in there but we can't see them" I'm currently on season 5 on my own so all the stuff with suddenly there's angels and god being like "figure it out yourself" is fresh in my brain 3) "I got a girl in the war" applies to both The Jody Squad™ and also! jack!!! turn up the music and pray that he makes it through!!!
okay as a band with two brothers in it x ambassadors is unfortunately extremely high on the list of basically all my playlists with brothers in them. sorry. this one especially is wildly winchester-coded though.
please please please ignore the band name this is actually it's such a song (one of my favorites) and it's about all these people the singer used to know who are now dead and how they are still with him. a lot of people die in this show but they all leave their impact. also "they were all in love with dying/they were doing it in texas" like. simultaneously so poetic and romantic and so straightforward and honest. very supernatural of them I think.
all honesty this one is really more based off of vibes than any concrete notion? winchester childhood vibes in particular.
haven't decided if it's sam or dean coded yet. deciding factor is the line "the sewage of youth/drowned the spark of my teens." could it be referring to hunting ultimately wrecking sam's attempts at a normal life in college and with jess (sparked in his teens)? or could it perhaps be all dean's shitty childhood experiences washing away any hope of being anything else by the time he became a teenager? perhaps both?
"I've been in so many tears/I do my best not to count it" well. there's that. it's definitely a weird song to associate with hunting but I do. also with their dad a lot. this one is also largely vibes.
honorable mentions:
felt too on the nose. sorry john. but I do love the line "life's fucking long til it stops/and god's fucking fake til he's not."
just a touch destiel coded. pretty sure cas is going to have his own playlist though as soon as I manage to get my thoughts about him to make sense in any intelligible language (I definitely like cas a normal amount. mhmm.) will keep you posted.
and yeah!
I'm. so sorry I was going through your spn tag to find my roommate the post about the cheeseburger and the American Man (I just finished the famine episode) and also liked a whole bunch of things. sorry about the notif bomb. but I appreciate you tagging and reblogging all of it <3 also I might be making a supernatural playlist at my roommate's request so :) I'm enjoying this show a normal amount
i smiled when i saw dw and omg id love to see your playlist?? if possible??? also no one enjoys this show a normal amount LMFAOO
#sorry that was long#my jason one is better#I've also only been watching this show for *checks watch* not very long#so I'll be nice to myself about it#Spotify#kili is rambling again

Drop off Point | SPN Brothers
Warnings; language, anger, arguing
There was no place like home, but the thing was, that you didn’t have one. Each day, you went from motel room to motel room, sometimes you would even sleep in the back of the impala, whist your brothers sat in the front, somehow gaining rest in those uncomfortable, upright positions.
Dad was gone, and left you primarily in Dean’s custody, and with having Sam back, he managed to get your brother to cut you some slack. Dean was a wreck without John, he was desperate to discover your father’s whereabouts, and his decisions made you feel as though you were not as desperate to find where he had gone.
Being a Winchester came with plenty of perks, you got to see so many places in a short span of time, it made it feel as though the world was underneath your fingertip. However, having the attributes of being a teenager, and a girl, didn’t mix well with your suggestions or desires to hunt for the parent that had raised you.
And that left you here, cruising in the backseat of Dean’s beloved vehicle, taking the turns to reach Bobby’s. The elder of your brother had said he needed to stock up on supplies, such as dead man’s blood and so on, in case he picked up on any monsters on his journey.
But the travel was not just his, you and Sam were there too. He had even gone to nab Samuel from his escape, and drag him into the putridness of this life once more, all for the man that spawned you all.
“Hey kid.” Bobby stepped down from his porch, his shoes crinkling upon the gravel. He greeted the boys with hugs, and a set smile occupied his face as he looked at you, it almost screamed relief. “I got everything you boys need, come on.”
The lot of you trailed after the elder hunter, who adjusted his baseball cap as he escorted the three of you into the main room, the devil’s trap brandishing the floor, and scurried piles of books taking up the rest of the space.
“Cool, you got the good stuff.” Dean clapped his hands together as he dug through the small arsenal, dragging out a small blade.
“That there was smelted with dead man’s blood, it’ll murder those suckers straight away.” Bobby spoke, watching as Dean pocketed some items. Sam dropped a bag on the floor, a guilty, disobedient dog expression clouding his face.
It wasn’t any bag, it belonged to you. The satchel contained a few articles of clothing that were clean and a couple of books that you had nabbed from libraries that you had passed through. “Why’d you bring that in?” You asked suspiciously, having an inkling of a feeling as to the reason.
“Sorry.” Sam muttered, he had truly missed you whilst he had been away, and he hated the idea of being subdued into saying goodbye. But this wasn’t his complete choice, your other sibling had entirely taken control of the decision.
“You’re staying here (Y/N/N), at least until we find dad.” Dean admitted, coming to walk closer to you to strangle you in an embrace, however, you were keen to take a step back, denying his request.
“This is ridiculous.” You scoffed, face red from hurt and anger. He had no right to swerve you from the path that you were hellbent on, it was not up to him. “I want to go with you!”
Perhaps it was a peculiar ambition, but in this life, family was everything. It was the code that you had been raised to, and you’d be damned if you were to insult it by giving it nothing but disregard. If it were you that were missing, everyone would be searching, Dean would send everyone out to enquire and look, no matter their gender or age.
And just because you were his sister, he thought that he could put his foot down. It never changed, he was continuously overprotective, it felt as though you were consistently travelling in a cage, a child lock on in the back seats of Baby, rather than being giving a sense of free will. Instead there was no freedom, only constricting bars that kept you in the line of sight and knowledge of your brothers.
“Well too bad sweetheart, you’re staying put here under Bobby’s supervision.” He retorted sufficiently pressing the sole of his shoe upon the wooden flooring on this matter. Dean wised not to argue, but it was where his conspiring opinion ended up taking the pair of you, Bobby scratched his head agitatedly, understanding the reasons for Dean’s red anger, however it was inevitable that one day, you’d be old enough to make your own decisions, and no doubt you would go head first into these dangerous situations. It was how he could tell how related you were to your brothers, even if you had a different mother from the infamous sons of John Winchester.
“Screw you Dean! You’re supposed to be the one looking after me, and here you are, loading me off to someone else. I hate you so much right now.” The words couldn’t be restrained, they tumbled out, and currently you couldn’t care less. Anger was taking the driver’s seat, and it was veering into a crash, one that Sam could see without his ‘psychic’ abilities.
“Don’t say that (Y/N).” Another order, how Dean like. It was such a typical trait that he reverberated from his chest, as though he was constantly the one in charge. The way he bossed people about was far too familiar, and it repulsed you. He was acting as another man in your life, the one that dragged the lot of you around like dogs, pulling on the leashes to keep you all in line.
“You’re not dad, so stop trying to be him!” Dean could only freeze upon receiving your words, as you heavily breathed, wound up from the spitting of conflicting interests. Another instant spewing of hurtful comments were attempting to be catapulted from the void of your mouth, but Sam hissed as he came to stand in front of you, clearly disappointed in your behaviour.
“You know (Y/N), I told Dean that he should give you a chance, although you deserve a life better than we got. Not because it could raise our chances and hopes of finding dad, but because it was what you wanted. But I’ve changed my mind, and I think you should stay here a while, until you are grown up enough to be on the road with us.”
His scolding made you bow your head down, almost ashamed of yourself, before you glanced at the trio of men in the room one last time, grabbing your man and escalating upstairs to a spare room. Sam gulped, knowing that he had silenced the poison in the blood you all shared, however he could only hope that you would understand why he was so inclined to get involved.
It caused him pain, knowing that you, his baby sister wanted to be neck deep in this chaotic life, when he had wanted out. The logic of it didn’t feel right, it only showed as evidence that you too had been brought up loved, yet in a toxic childhood. The inclination, the loyalty you had for fighting was a flaw, it was not something that hunters wanted to do, but instead rather something that they had to.
Sam sighed as he put the phone down in his lap, Dean was in the driver’s seat, his jaw clenched. “No answer?” He asked expectedly, to which the eldest received an affirmative nod. It was frustrating to know that this all uprose from them wanting to keep her safe.
“Bobby said that she’s okay.” Sam spoke in the music of the air con. “She’s actually getting pretty good at combat, hell it’s been six months. Her head is on straight, she knows that she’s good at what she’s doing. But-“
“She still refuses to speak to us.” Dean completed his sentence, gripping the steering wheel a little tighter. His knuckles grew white from the pressure he held onto the remote with, his tongue clicking as he pushed away the guilt. That was only permitted recognition when he was alone, he’d never admit to anyone that he may have made a bad decision, all because his sister was alive and breathing, (Y/N) was okay, even if she refused contact with them.
“We should see her Dean.” Sam stated. He had wanted to for so long, he hated how absent the backseat was, and how there seemed to be a lack of the scent of female deodorant.
“Next stop, Bobby’s.”

Family Remains
A ringing interrupts the relative silence in the Lincoln waking Chase up. The girls quickly locate the phone emitting the noise and answer it, quickly putting it on speakerphone upon realizing it’s Dean calling.
“What?” Chase asks annoyed and tired.
“Got a case.”
“So you decided to wake us up?” Harley asks even though she hadn’t been sleeping.
“That’s not a great excuse. Couldn’t this have waited until morning?”
“Figured we start heading there now,” Dean responds.
“Dean, let Chase and Sam sleep.”
“Thank you!” Chase exclaims before rolling back around in her spot and trying to go back to sleep.
“Dean, If you can’t sleep, we could go for a walk. If you want,” Harley suggests.
“Yeah, okay. Don’t got anything better to do.”
“Cool. Meet you outside in a sec,” Harley says before hanging up.
Harley climbs out of their Lincoln, while Chase waits calmly. Right as she is about to close the door, Harley is startled by Chase.
“So. Where ya goin?” Chase asks in a mocking voice.
Harley turns, a deadpan look on her face, to see Chase half sitting up, a smirk on her lips, eyebrows raised. “Go back to sleep.”
Chase raises her hands slightly in defense. “Okay, okay.” Right as the door closes, Chase calls out loud enough to be heard, “Be safe!”
Harley groans, but doesn’t respond.
***
“Hey,” Harley says walking over to Dean.
“Be safe, huh? What did you have in mind?”
Harley punches his shoulder hard, but not hard enough to bruise as they walk away from the cars, “Shut up. Chase is clearly off her rocker. She’s been bugging me about you ever since we kissed.”
“Which time?”
“The only time she knows about. Right after you came back.”
“Yeah, I could see that. Sam’s been on me about it too. You’d think they’d get over a kiss by now.”
“I know it’s been three months of this shit.”
“So am I the hunter then?”
“Huh?”
“Last month you mentioned Chase thought you were madly in love with some hunter, and you wouldn’t tell me who.”
“Oh, yeah. That was you.”
“And you didn’t tell me, why?”
“I was embarrassed. Jeez, hitting me with the hard questions.”
Dean pulls Harley closer, slinging his arm over her shoulders, “Don’t have to be embarrassed with me, sweetheart.”
Harley just rolls her eyes and leans into Dean's side.
***
“So on a scale of one to ten, how safe were you guys?”
“I am so not answering that. Just no.”
“So a zero then? No, no, probably a ten. One, you’d tell me if you guys did anything. And two, you both are too fucking stubborn to do anything.”
“If we did have sex, and that’s a big gigantic if. Would you really want to hear about it? I mean do you really want to hear about how amazingly good your brother is in bed?”
“Yes and no… Ugh that’s annoying. I would usually 100% want all the details but, that’s disgusting. Okay, yeah, just tell me if you do the deed and if he treated you right. I need no other information.”
“That’s what I thought,” Harley smirks.
“Yeah, okay, point made. Now shut up.”
“For now. Do you think Cas is a virgin?”
Chase turns a shade of pink as a look of bewilderment spreads across it. “Wait, what, excuse-why the fuck? What is that- why is that something you ask me?”
“Because I don’t have anyone else to ask.”
“That is deplorable.” Chase pauses for about one second. “But, duh. Have you seen the look of confusion he always has on? That man- angel- wouldn’t know what to do with a man or woman even if he read a “how to” book for dummies.”
Harley bursts into laughter at Chase's response.
“What?” Chase asks. “What about him makes you think he has done anything more than touch someone’s shoulder?”
“Nothing, but it sounds a hell of a lot funnier out loud than in my head.”
“That’s fair,” says Chase, sighing in relief as though dodging a bullet.
“Wait, Cas touched your shoulder. Is there something you’re trying to tell me?”
“Other than Cas being a giant prude, no. Seriously, I have had like four conversations with him that lasted more than a few sentences. What makes you see something there?” Chase throws her hands in the air for a split second before they return to the steering wheel. “For crying out loud, the first few times we were in the same room, he pretended I wasn’t there!”
“Yeah, but you think he’s cute and he ‘always notices you’.”
“Well, I do attract a lot of attention with my dazzling and annoying persona.”
“You’re only annoying sometimes.”
Chase shoots Harley a sideways glance. “Thanks,” she says dryly.
“You’re welcome.”
Chase sighs. “Anyhow. Anything else you want to randomly talk about? Or is pestering me about Castiel the only goal you had?”
“Pizza is legally a sandwich.”
“Excuse me- what the fuck?”
“It’s true.”
“Do I wanna know?”
“Probably not.”
“Cool. Moving on!”
“There’s a Catholic Church that’s decorated in the bones of it’s parishioners.”
Chase just sighs in defeat. “Anything else?” she asks dejectedly. “Or can I be allowed peace this once?”
“I can’t think of anything else, so sure.”
“Alright then, back to you and Dean!”
“Fuck my life,” Harley groans.
***
“Boy, three bedrooms, two baths, and one homicide. This place is gonna sell like hotcakes,” Dean says upon entering the supposedly haunted house.
The Winchesters and Co. immediately go to separate areas and investigate the house for any signs of paranormal activity.
“Hey, check this out,” Harley says, knocking on the wall. “It’s hollow.”
“It’s probably just a dumbwaiter.”
Everyone looks to Chase who shrugs. “What? I used to read about older houses like this.”
“Know-it-all,” Dean mutters.
“You wanna say that again?”
“Say what again?”
“You said- you. Jackass.”
Sam rolls his eyes. “You guys need to grow up. I thought I was the youngest.”
“You still are, Sammy-boy,” Chase says grinning.
Another eyeroll is earned. “Let’s continue checking out the house.”
“Agreed,” Harley says, concealing laughter.
They wander into a large bedroom, investigating further.
“Well, no bloodstains, fresh coat of paint, it's a bunch of bubkes,” Dean says after a few moments.
“Needle’s all over the place,” Sam says, looking at the EMF reader.
“Yeah, power lines most likely.”
“Know-it-all,” Dean mutters again.
Chase shoots him a look.
Harley goes to the closet and opens the door. She sees a decapitated doll’s head lying on the floor, and slowly closes the door.
“What was that?” Chase asks her. Harley motions for her to go ahead and check. Skeptically, Chase opens the door. She stares down in confused horror. “Uh huh, okay then.”
The boys look over her shoulder, and mimic her expression.
“Well, that’s super disturbing,” Dean says.
“Think it got left behind?”
“By who?” Dean asks.
“Unless Bill Gibson liked to play with doll heads,” Chase scoffs.
“Or Sid from Toy Story lived here,” Harley says.
Chase laughs, only to stop, hearing a car outside.
“I thought you said this place was still for sale?” Dean demands.
“Apparently not anymore,” Sam says sarcastically.
“Wait, what?” Chase asks. “Did you two not see the ‘Sold’ sign outside?”
“No,” Dean responds hastily, before rushing to the front door. The other three quickly follow behind him.
“Who are they?” A teenage girl asks.
“Can I help you?” A man asks them.
“Are you the new owners?” Sam asks.
“Yeah. You guys are?”
“This is Mr. Stanwyk. I'm Mr. Babar. County code enforcement. Those two are Miss Wentz and Mrs. Babar. Specialists.”
Harley shoots Dean a look, before shaking off the comment.
“We had the building inspected last week. Is there a problem?”
“Asbestos in the walls, a gas leak.” Sam lists it off hurriedly, obviously just wanting the family gone. “Yeah, I’d say we have a problem.”
“Asbestos? Meaning what?”
“Meaning until this house is up to par, you can’t stay here. It’s uninhabitable,” Chase explains.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. You mean we can’t stay here?”
“Obviously,” Chase deadpans.
“It’s a health hazard,” Dean amends, rolling his eyes at his sister. “You don’t want to.”
“Hold up, we just drove four hundred miles!”
“Look, what’s your name?” Chase asks.
“Ted.”
“Look, Ted. This house is a health hazard. You’ve got fairly young kids as well as yourself. Staying here is not a bright idea.”
“There’s a motel just down the road. Until this gets cleared up, I suggest you stay there,” Harley adds.
“All right, and what if we don’t?”
“Are you an idiot?”
“Wentz!” Sam says warningly.
“You either get a fine or you go to jail. Pick your poison.”
“One night,” the man says. “One night and I’ll take care of everything. ASAP, I promise.”
“You do that,” Dean says.
“Another motel? Awesome, Dad. I hope this one has hooker sheets, like the last one,,” the teenager pipes up.
Harley laughs and cracks a smile at the comment.
“Danny!” The mom of the group calls out as they near their car.
“Come on, Danny!” The man who isn’t Ted shouts.
Harley gently hits Dean as soon as they’re out of view. “Where do you get off pretending I’m your bloody wife without warning me.”
***
“What did the room look like when you found it, Mrs. Curry?” Harley asks gently.
“I already told the local boys, there was blood everywhere.”
“And Mr. Gibson? Where was he?” Dean asks.
She shakes her head. “Everywhere.”
Chase has to stifle a laugh, only successfully disguising it as a cough after Harley elbows her in the stomach slightly.
“How long have you been cleaning Mr. Gibson’s house?”
“About five years.”
“So you knew him pretty well,” Dean surmises.
“Well, not really. He was real private. Not the easiest man. Not that I blame him.”
“What do you mean?” Harley asks.
“His wife died in childbirth. Daughter hangs herself in the attic twenty years later. I’d be bitter too. Oh, I think I got some pictures.” With that, she goes off to find them. She quickly returns. “Here.”
“Thanks. Can we keep these?”
“Suit yourself.”
“So, why did she kill herself?” Chase asks.
“I don’t know. Was before my time.”
“Did you ever notice anything odd around the house when you were cleaning it?” Dean asks.
“Like what?”
“Like,” Dean pauses.
“Like, you know. Lights going on and off and things not being where you put them,” Harley lists.
“Well, maybe there was one thing.”
“What’s that?” Sam asks.
“Well, sometimes, I thought I heard like a...rustling in the walls.”
“Like a rat?” Dean asks.
“Yeah.”
“Must have been some big sons of guns out there, huh?”
“Wouldn't know. Never saw any.”
“Do you happen to know where Mrs. Gibson and her daughter were buried?” Sam asks.
“They were cremated.”
Winchesters and Co. headed back out to the cars.
“All right. So it probably wasn't the mom or the daughter. Whose ghost was it?” Sam says narrowing down their list of suspects to nothing.
“I don't know. But I say we give that place a real once-over and see,” Dean says.
“Lovely now all we got is who it probably isn’t,” Harley sighs.
“We’ve got a whole lot of nada and a shit ton of zip. I’m just tired of this already,” Chase complains.
***
Chase and Harley pulled up to the haunted house of the week with the Impala not far behind. The house’s lights were on and they could see people moving around.
“Shit! They stayed in the house!”
Chase rolls her eyes. “Fucking dumbasses.”
“They’re gonna get themselves killed.”
“We did warn them though. So, technically, we are not liable.”
“I love you,” Harley says laughing.
Chase laughs in response, her eyes tearing up slightly. “Am I wrong? Just, am I wrong? No. Exactly.”
“Definitely not wrong.”
“When have I ever been wrong?”
“You’re wrong about me and Dean.”
“Ah, but you are actually the wrong one. Guess who has another few photos to add to her collection? Me. And why is that? Oh yes. Because I caught you two cuddling! Again!”
“You know it’s kind of creepy that you have a bunch of pictures of me sleeping half naked.”
“No, it’s not. It’s not creepy because you’re with Dean and in my defense, Sam has the same file. That’s creepy. At least I’m a girl.”
“That doesn’t make it any less creepy.”
“But it does.”
“Dude, you’re into chicks. And you have pictures of me half naked. It’s weird.”
“I have literally seen you nude. Remember when we went skinny dipping that once? C’mon get a better argument. You know you don’t count. You’re practically my sister.” Chase smirks. “And soon to be sister.”
“It’s still weird. And no I’m not.”
“Oh come on. At least do it so we’re actually related finally.”
“I should’ve never kissed him in front of you.”
“Oh, so you would kiss him not in front of me? Wait. Have you kissed him before but not in front of me? How could you not tell me this?!”
“Because it’d only fuel your weird ship. Sometimes you just need a little affection.”
“OH MY GOD YOU JUST ADMITTED YOU HAVE KISSED HIM BEFORE OH MY FUCKING GOD!”
“Platonically.”
“There is no such thing as platonic kissing if it’s you and Dean.”
“Yes, there is. Although something was definitely different earlier today,” Harley says, shooting Dean a text.
Chase lets out an inhuman squeal in response. “You kissed earlier?! When?”
“While we were watching Scooby-Doo.”
“How romantic.”
Harley rolls her eyes at Chase.
“Give me details. Was it like for long or just short? Was it French? Wait, it’s Dean. Do I want to know? Nevermind, obviously I do. Sooo. Tell me everything.”
“I’m not dignifying that with a response.” Harley says, getting out of the Lincoln and sticking her tongue out at her best friend.
“You are such a child. Just tell me.”
Harley doesn’t respond; just sits on the hood of the car. Chase groans dramatically.
***
Screams erupt from inside the house and the four hunters quickly rush to aid the family. Pounding on the door with a frown, Dean takes the lead.
The man- Brian- opens the door. “Oh, you. Did you touch my daughter?”
“What? No,” Dean says confused. “I have her.” Dean makes a motion with his thumb, gesturing behind him to Harley, who rolls her eyes at him.
“Who are you guys?” Brian asks.
“Relax, please. You have a ghost,” Sam calmly states.
Chase resists snorting a laugh at the comment, covering it up with a cough. “We’re here to help,” she revises.
“A ghost,” Brian says again, as if he can’t believe what he’s hearing.
“I told you!” Hooker Sheets Girl exclaims.
“It’s the girl!” Danny says.
“Both of you relax,” Brian chastises before turning the group. “What are you four playing at?”
“Oh nothing much, just saving you lives.” Harley says offhandedly.
“Your family is in danger,” Chase says.
“You need to get out of the house,” Dean demands. The girls roll their eyes at his abrasiveness.
All of a sudden, the lights go out, pitching the group into darkness.
“Nobody move,” Dean commands.
“Buster!” Danny calls out, hearing their dog start to bark and whine.
The four hunters follow Brian out of the house, alongside Ted. The group, while chasing Brian who is yelling for Buster desperately, comes across the words, ‘TOO LATE’, painted in large red letters.
The rest of Brian’s family comes out onto the porch, gasping at the sight before them.
“Go back inside. Go!” Brian yells at his kids; worried for their safety.
“We are not the bad guys, but you're in danger.” Dean states sternly.
“First thing's first. You got to get your family out of here.” Sam says quickly.
“Head to the motel I was talking about. You'll be safe there,” Harley says.
“What’re you guys gonna do?”
“We’re going to solve your ghost problem, obviously,” Chase says.
“Oh, come on! No!” Dean exclaims, drawing everyone’s attention.
All of the vehicles have slashes in all four tires.
“Excuse me? That fucking ghost is gonna pay!” Chase shouts, running over to Jack. “My poor baby.” She shoots a quick glance at the group behind her, “Sorry, excuse my french.”
Sam pops Baby’s trunk and looks for any of their supplies, while Harley checks Jack’s.
“Dude, the guns are gone. So is the... Basically, everything is gone.” Sam says.
“Same over here.” Harley sighs.
Ted had disappeared to check on his truck unnoticed, and only just returned. “Truck's no good.”
“Tires slashed?” Brian asks, and Ted just nods.
“What kind of ghost messes with a man’s ride?” Dean whines.
“Really though,” Chase agrees. “That’s a new level of bastard.”
“What's going on? What's going on?” The teenage girl asks before screaming, “She's there! She's there!”
“Where?!” The mom asks.
“She was right there in the woods!” The girl yells.
“What's a ghost doing outside?” Dean asks.
“Maybe it’s picking apples, Dean. For apple pie,” Chase says sarcastically. “Why are you asking? Does it look like we know why a ghost is outside?”
“Hey, it was a rhetorical question!”
“Do you two want to stay out here arguing and find out?” Sam demands.
“Are you crazy? We need to get the hell out of here!” Ted says freaking out.
“In what, Ted?! In what?! I don’t see a horse ‘n carriage anywhere, do you?!” Harley yells, fed up with their ignorance.
“Everyone back in the house,” Dean shouts. “Move! Now!”
***
“Whatever's outside, it can't get in this circle. As long as the salt line is unbroken, this is the safest place to be,” Dean explains.
“Safe from ghosts?” Brian asks skeptically.
“Actually, yeah, so shut up and just listen to us,” Chase snaps. These people were starting to get on her nerves.
“Okay, I’m not listening to this anymore. Come on. I got to get my family out of here.”
“Nobody is going anywhere until we kill this thing,” Harley reiterates.
“Sir, please, this is what we do.” Sam casts a wary glance at the other hunters. “Just trust us.”
“You hunt ghosts?” Danny asks excitedly.
“You betcha,” Chase says with a smile.
“Like Scooby-Doo?”
It is believed at this moment, Chase and Sam could’ve sworn they saw both Dean and Harley fall in love with the boy. Both of their faces widened with grins as they nod.
“Better,” Dean says playfully.
“You saw her outside, right? Okay. Does she look like either one of the girls?” Sam asks, showing them a couple of pictures.
“Her. She was paler and a lot dirtier, but that was her,” Kate says.
“That’s the girl in the walls,” Danny adds.
“The girl in the picture- she’s dead?”
“She killed herself in this house.”
“Wow, Harley. Tact,” Chase says flatly.
Harley just shrugs.
“So the maid got her story wrong?” Chase asks. “Rebecca didn’t get cremated?”
“Unless she’s attached to something else in the house,” Sam says.
“She hung herself in the attic, right?” Dean asks.
“You wanna babysit?” Sam asks. “I’ll check it out.”
“I’ll stay with Dean,” Chase says. “Harley, you go with Sam. Is that okay?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?” Harley asks, confusion written on her face.
Chase glances at Dean out of the corner of her eye, before quickly looking back at Harley. “No idea.”
“Weirdo.”
“Look—I don't care who hung themselves where. Maybe something is going on here, but—” Ted starts.
“It’s a spirit, man,” Dean says.
“No, it's just some backwoods hillbilly bitch, and I'm not about to sit around here waiting for her to go all Deliverance on my ass.”
Chase laughs at his comment. “Okay, so you’re not all bad.”
“Nobody’s leaving this house,” Dean snaps.
“Stop me,” Ted challenges.
Harley butts in between Ted and Dean, moving her jacket and flannel so her gun is visible. “Listen. I've got a gun. You don't get your ass back in that circle, you're gonna have yourself a third hole.”
“Technically a fifth.” Everyone looks at Chase with an annoyed expression. “What?”
“You guys cool?” Sam asks.
Chase and Dean nod. “Go,” Dean says.
***
Harley and Sam arrive in the attic and pull out their flashlights.
“God, there’s so much fucking dust,” Harley sighs, heading to an unmarked box on the floor.
“Yeah. Can I ask you something?”
“Shoot.”
“Is Harley your real name, because there’s no record of a Harley Pawlak, but there was a C-”
“Don’t say it!”
“So that is you?”
“No, she’s who I used to be. She’s been dead a long time.”
“What happened?”
“Trauma, growing up. Pick your poison.”
“Off limits, noted.”
“Wait. Why were you looking me up?”
“I did it awhile back, I think it was after the first time we caught you and Dean sleeping together.”
“Had to make sure I was good enough for your brother?”
“Yeah. Kinda.”
“You do know nothing is actually going on right?”
“So Dean has told me, many times.” Sam sighs before perking up at finding a journal. “I think I found something!”
“What?”
“Rebecca’s journal.”
“Sweet! Now we can get out of this musty old attic,” She says before sneezing.
***
“I can’t believe we got ourselves into this,” Chase groans. “This would all be over with already if you lot had just left when we told you to.”
“You couldn’t really expect us to leave,” Brian says.
“Well, no, I merely said it for the sake of my health,” Chase responds sarcastically.
“Chase, why are you such a child all the time?” Dean asks.
“And why are you such a dick?”
“Now that’s just uncalled for,” Dean says with an eye roll and a pout.
“Hey. Fonzie. Question for you. This indestructible force field made out of salt... Have to be kosher stuff, or what?” Ted asks.
Chase whirls around, but Dean grabs her arm, pulling her towards him.
“Ted, knock it off,” Susan says.
They all freeze when they hear a sound only a small distance away.
“Dean-”
“It’s fine.”
“What was that?” Kate asks.
They all look around, before spotting her. The girl from the photo was there, opening the door.
“Stay calm, guys,” Chase says.
“She's a ghost. She can't come in the circle,” Dean explains.
They all watch carefully as she slowly approaches them. She stops at the salt line and gazes at it warily, before brandishing a knife, and stepping over the line. Chase blanches while Dean looks on in panic.
“I thought you said ghosts couldn't cross the circle.”
“They can’t. She’s not a ghost.”
The girl attacks Dean, but he manages to fight and hold her off.
“Dean!” Chase cries out in panic, attempting to help him.
“Chase, get them out of here!”
“But-”
“Now!”
Chase nods before herding the others outside, running away from Dean.
She sighs in relief however, hearing Sam and Harley.
***
“Where is everyone?” Dean asks, coming outside to see Brian and an annoyed Chase.
“Hiding, which is where this lunatic should be, but he isn’t.”
“I want to help.”
“Go get your family,” Dean says. “Go!”
Brian rushes off to get his family while the four hunters look at one another. “So,” Chase says. “Not a ghost.”
“Just a girl then,” Sam adds.
“Girl?” Dean asks incredulously. “It's psycho Nell. I'm telling you, man—humans.”
“So who is she then?” Harley asks.
“I don't know. Maybe it's the daughter, Rebecca. Maybe she didn't hang herself.”
“Dean, you realize she would be like, fifty now or something.”
“Well, what did you two find in the attic?” Dean asks Harley and Sam.
“Not much,” Sam says.
“Just Rebecca’s old diary.”
“I wish you'd found a howitzer. Listen, we got to get this family safe. I mean, it's just a human, so they can make a run for it. We just got to hold her off,” Dean says.
“We're okay,” Susan says as the family runs up to the hunters.
“Danny! Ted!” Brian calls out. “We’ve got to go!”
“I’m good!” Ted calls back, running over.
“Danny, come on!” Susan calls this time.
“Danny!” Brian calls again. “Buddy, we got to go!”
“Told you it was some crazy bitch,” Ted says.
“Yeah, you did. Want a sticker or something?” Chase asks, rolling her eyes.
“Head to town. We’ll take it from here,” Sam says.
“Danny, come on, baby! We're leaving!” Susan calls again.
“Danny, we’ve got to go!”
“Brian, where- where is he?”
“Danny!”
“Danny!” Susan calls.
“Suse, Suse, Suse. We will find Danny, I promise you,” Brian says.
“No,” Susan says, in denial, shaking her head as though she couldn’t believe this was happening.
“No. Take Kate and go now. Now, while you still have a chance.”
“Not without Danny.”
“I am not going out there with mom alone.”
“She’s right,” Dean says. “Until we find your son, the safest place for you right now would be in the shed.”
Kate looks at him like he’s grown another head, “I’m not going in there either.”
“Yes, you are. It is the best defense. The windows are boarded up. It's got one door. It's our best shot right now. Trust me,” Harley says.
Kate looks at her warily, but nods finally.
“Suse, Kate, go.” Brian nods towards the shed. “Go.”
“Okay,” Sam starts. “You three go take the house,” he continues, gesturing to Harley, Dean, and Ted. “The three of us will take outside.”
***
Dean, Harley, and Ted walk into the house. Ted begins poking around the room and finds a butcher’s knife. While Dean investigates the walls and Harley the floor; actually doing something useful.
“What are you doing?” Ted asks.
“She's human. She had to come from somewhere.” Harley answers in a snarky manner.
Dean finds a loose board and pulls it free of the rest of the wall. Ted flinches at the smell emanating from the hole.
“You smell that?” Ted asks, scrunching up his nose.
“Every day,” Dean replies.
“You get used to it,” Harley adds.
Dean pulls a knife out and shines his flashlight through the hole before entering it, “Come on.”
Harley quickly followed suit with Ted in tow. They stop at a hole.
“You’re not going down there,” Ted says.
“Do you want to?” Harley challenges.
Ted stays silent.
“That’s what I thought.”
Dean starts lowering himself down, “Please nobody grab my leg. Please nobody grab my leg.”
Harley does the same after him. Dean shines his flashlight throughout the room. When it lands on Buster’s body torn to shreds. Dean quickly turns around and turns Harley so she’s facing away from the dog.
“What are you doing?” Harley asks, confused.
“Just get out of the hole,” Dean says.
“Why?”
“Just trust me, you don’t want to see this.”
“Okay?” Harley says unsure, but struggles to get up before Dean gives her a boost.
“Danny?” Dean calls out after Harley gets back up.
“Find anything?” Ted asks.
“Yeah, her kitchen,” Dean responds.
“Her what?”
Ted turns around and the girl stabs him through the neck.
“Dean! She’s here!” Harley yells as Ted falls on her.
Dean hurries to climb through the hole while Harley pushes Ted’s body off of her.
***
Chase paces back and forth, ignoring the stares of the rest of the family, as well as her own brother.
“Chase,” Sam says. Chase doesn’t even hear him, mumbling to herself. “Chase!” Sam repeats.
Chase’s head jerks up, as she finally takes notice of Sam. “Yeah, what?”
“Stop that.”
“Stop what?”
“Pacing. You’re giving me anxiety.”
“Yeah, well, I have anxiety all the time, so deal with it.”
Sam rolls his eyes as Chase begins to pace again, continuing her incessant mumbling.
“Look, why are we just standing here? Let’s go check the house,” Brian suggests.
“Yeah, no bueno. No offense, but that’s an awful idea,” Chase says.
“It’s better than pacing around like you! How’s that gonna help?” Brian demands.
“You wanna go? You’re only in this mess because you prideful assholes didn’t want to listen to us in the first place!”
Brain turns away, silenced by the indisputable facts of Chase’s accusation.
“Best thing we can do is just wait for the others to get back, okay?” Sam says, trying to ease the tension in the air.
A few moments later, the group startles at the sudden knocking.
“Sam, it’s us,” Dean says.
“Chase, could you please open the door?” Harley asks, sounding slightly aggravated.
“Help me,” Chase says, jumping into action to move the items blocking the door.
Harley and Dean rush in as soon as the door opens, only to shut it behind them.
“Where’s Danny? Did you find him?” Susan asks hurriedly.
“No,” Dean says shortly.
“Okay, well where’s Ted?”
“Outside.”
“Well why doesn’t he come inside?”
Chase at that moment realizes what happened.
“Because I had to carry him out. I’m sorry,” Dean continues, looking to the ground.
“What- what does that mean?”
“Are you saying he’s dead?” Brian asks.
“No, of course not. That’s not what he’s saying, right?” Susan asks.
“We were in the walls and she attacked,” Harley explains.
“Oh my God,” Susan gasps.
“I couldn’t make it to him in time,” Dean continues.
“Uncle Ted is dead?” Kate asks, looking back and forth between the adults.
“She snuck up behind us, I’m sorry Kate,” Harley says gently.
Dean leaves the shed and Harley follows behind him.
Chase looks at them as they leave before sighing heavily. She turns to Sam. “Anything useful in there?” she asks, gesturing to Rebecca’s diary.
Sam shakes his head, “Not yet.”
“We’ll find him, Suse. We will.”
“Where else is there to look? He’s dead,” Susan says dejectedly.
“Don’t say that,” Chase says gently, cutting in. “We will get your son back.”
“And if he’s already dead? She killed my brother and now she’s killed my son.”
“Danny is still alive,” Brian says.
“No, he isn’t,” Susan argues.
“Yes, he is. Do you remember what he said about the girl who lived in the walls? She said he could stay,” Brian explains.
Chase looks at him in shock. “Wow, you actually just said something useful.”
“I just don't understand why this happens to us. I mean, we're good people. We're a good family.”
“What happened to Andy happened, okay? I cannot change that. But I will find Danny, I promise you. And when I do, we are gonna be fine. You and me, the kids, we're gonna be fine.”
Chase looks to Sam and takes notice of his eyes darting away from them and back to the diary. She shakes her head lightly.
Brian nods to Chase before heading outside, presumably to where Dean and Harley had gone to.
***
“You okay?” Harley asks.
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be,” Dean responds not so convincingly.
“Because I know you. You’ll blame Ted’s death on yourself. Which is ridiculous. If anyone should get the blame it should be me. Not that I actually care.”
“You just got up there.” Dean defends her.
“So it was no one’s fault.”
“ I guess you're right. But I doubt my subconscious will accept that.”
“Fair enough.”
“The most important thing is you’re still alive, so there’s that at least.”
“Did I just get Dean Winchester to look on the bright side?” Harley teases.
“I think plenty of positive thoughts.”
“Like what?”
“Like you without a bra, see positive.”
“Pervert.”
“You love it.”
“I tolerate it.”
***
Brain stares up at the house, taking deep breaths, trying to keep himself calm.
“Andy your son?” Dean asks. Brian glances at him quickly. He nods.
“Oldest. He got himself killed in a car accident last year.”
“I'm sorry.”
“It nearly tore Suse and I apart. Still could, I imagine. That's why we moved here. Fresh air, fresh start. Not even my line. Marriage counselor. 'Course, she might be right. After all, what could possibly go wrong in the country?”
Harley allows herself a bitter laugh, to which Brian raises his brows, cracking a smile.
“I'm getting your son back. If it's the last godforsaken thing I do,” Dean says seriously.
“Why do you care so much?” Brian asks him.
“Dean,” Sam says. “Harley.”
The three look to see Chase and Sam approaching them. Sam holds up the diary.
“We gotta talk,” Chase says shortly.
***
“What is that?” Dean asks as the four of them walk into the house.
“Rebecca’s diary,” Harley says. “Sam and I found it earlier.”
“I just finished reading it,” Sam explains.
“And?” Dean asks.
“That girl back there? Pretty sure she was Rebecca's daughter,” Chase explains.
“Rebecca had a kid?” Harley asks.
“It's all she talks about. Being pregnant, being ashamed of being pregnant,” Sam explains.
“Jeez, rent Juno and get over it. Wait, why kill herself after the baby?” Dean asks.
“Wow, Dean. Sympathetic,” Chase responds sarcastically.
“Maybe because her dad called her a dirty little whore and said he was gonna lock the baby up,” Sam responds.
“Why would he say that?” Harley asks.
Chase and Sam exchange glances before pointedly looking back at Harley and Dean.
“Oh, gross.”
“Yeah,” Chase says.
“So the daddy was the baby daddy too?” Dean asks.
“Dean, you have got to work on being tactful.”
“Dude was a monster, Dean,” Sam says.
“Wow, a story ripped from an Austrian headline. Humans,” Harley says, shaking her head in disbelief.
“Harley, you’re still partially human,” Chase reminds her.
“Yeah, whatever.”
“So she's been locked up her whole life?” Dean asks.
“You saw her eyes. Has she ever seen light? She's barely human,” Sam says.
“Okay, so, what, then, she's been caged up like an animal and she busts out and ganks dear old Dad? Slash Granddad?” Dean asks.
“I guess,” Sam shrugs.
“Well, can't say I blame her,” Chase says. “Someone did that to me, I might’ve not lasted as long. I definitely would have snapped eventually though.”
“Yeah, I can’t say I blame her either,” Dean agrees.
“I'm sure her life was hell, Dean. It doesn't mean she gets a free pass for murder.”
“Like you know what hell's like.”
Sam makes a surprised and regretful face, “I didn't-”
“Forget it,” Dean says.
“What the hell, Dean?”
Dean looks to Chase in shock.
“You can’t not talk to us about it, then use it against us, Dean. That’s not fucking fair.”
“You can’t even begin to imagine what hell is like-”
“Yeah, because you never fucking talk to us, Dean! So shut the hell up about it or tell us. Then, then you might be able to use that against us.”
Dean just stares at Chase in shock, before turning away.
“So where do we find her?” Sam interjects awkwardly, trying to break the silence.
“Kid's gotta eat, right?” Dean says, ignoring Chase.
“What?”
“He kept her hidden, locked up, but he had to feed her, didn't he?”
“I guess.”
“I think we know where,” Harley says, realizing where Dean was going with his train of thought.
***
The four hunters are breaking a hole into the kitchen wall, letting light into the shaft of the dumbwaiter.
“Could've kept her hidden here for years. Kept her fed, nobody would ever know,” Sam says.
Brian, who had insisted on coming with them, calls out for his son. “Danny! Danny!”
Dean shines a light down the shaft. “Watch out, I'm going down.”
“No. That's my son,” Brian attempts to argue.
“I know it is, but I said that I would get him. I will. Let me.”
Dean looks down and up the shaft and scoots through the hole, then starts to climb down the side.
“Hey, you got curtains? We need rope,” Chase says, getting an idea.
While Sam holds the light for Dean, Brian and Harley search around for curtains or fabric they can tie together for rope.
“You good down there?” Chase calls out.
“Yeah, just got to the bottom!” Dean pauses, obviously rustling around a bit. “Bitch is a klepto,” he finally mutters.
They all wait, having tied together enough curtains to make rope long enough, and finally, after several minutes, hear a boy’s yell.
“Was that Danny?” Brian asks.
“Know of any other boy we’re looking for?” Chase asks sarcastically.
Sam drops one end of a rope of knotted curtains down the shaft. Danny appears at the bottom.
“Danny!” Sam exclaims. Upon his urging, Danny ties himself into the rope.
“Okay!” Danny calls up, signalling that it’s clear to hoist him up.
“Okay, pull!” Sam says.
“Come on, buddy. Come on, buddy. Don't look back, Danny. Just come on, come on,” Brian mutters as they continue to pull Danny up the shaft.
Once Danny is to the top, Brian grabs onto him, hugging him. “Come on. You okay? It's okay.”
“Get him out of here. You gotta go,” Chase says.
As soon as Danny and Brian have left, Sam turns the light back down the shaft.
“Dean?” Harley calls.
“Dean!” Chase says again.
Sam quickly starts descending the rope, hearing a gunshot go off. Harley and Chase hold onto the rope, steadying it for Sam.
Five minutes later, the two reappear, climbing up the rope.
“Oh thank God,” Chase cries, throwing herself onto Dean. “I got so worried that the last thing I’d said to you was about-”
“It’s okay. It’s okay,” Dean says, trying to be soothing, hugging his younger sister. He brushes a hand through her hair, making eye contact with Harley, who also shows relief at Dean being safe.
***
Dean jacks down the Impala after replacing the tires. Sam pulls Dean’s duffel out of the repacked trunk and throws it in the back of the car.
Harley and Chase pack up their things, Jack parked alongside Baby. Brian and Susan walk over.
“Thanks for the head start,” Dean says.
“Why doesn't it surprise me you guys don't like the police?” Brian asks.
“Because it’s not surprising,” Chase says.
“It's sort of a mutual-appreciation thing, really,” Sam responds.
“Well, thank you.”
“Thank you,” Susan says.
“You okay?” Dean asks the couple.
“No, we're the opposite of okay, but we're together,” Susan replies.
“Thanks again,” Brian says.
The group nods to the family before gathering the last of their things and heading on their way.
***
Sam, Harley, Chase, and Dean all sit around, eating burgers. Well, the first three are. Dean, however, simply unwraps his burger, only to rewrap it.
“You okay?” Sam asks.
“You know, I felt for those sons of bitches back there. Lifelong torture turns you into something like that.”
“You were in hell, Dean. Look, maybe you did what you did there, but you're not them. They were barely human,” Sam says.
“Yeah, you're right. I wasn't like them. I was worse. They were animals, Sam, defending territory. Me? I did it for the sheer pleasure.”
“What?” Chase asks, slightly confused.
“I enjoyed it, guys. They took me off the rack, and I tortured souls, and I liked it. All those years, all that pain. Finally getting to deal some out yourself. I didn't care who they put in front of me. Because that pain I felt, it just slipped away. No matter how many people I save, I can't change that. I can't fill this hole. Not ever.”
“That’s not your fault, Dean,” Chase says.
“It is, and I’m going to have to live with that.”
Chase, determined to be of some support, simply wraps an arm around Dean’s waist. “But you will never have to live with that weight by yourself. Not as long as you have me. Not as long as you have us.”

The Supply Run
Dean Winchester x Reader; Sam Winchester x Reader (platonic)
Summary: Dean’s girlfriend is at home sick with the flu and he promised to make a run for a few simple things. Her biggest request - go to the actual grocery store and not that gas station up the road.
A/N: A simple little story to complete my bingo card for @spngenrebingo. A big thank you to @kazosa for helping me out with this one!!
Square Filled: Supply Run
Warnings: None
WC: 2.5K
Dean stood outside of the electronic doors and looked up at the giant neon sign. He grumbled at the prospect of entering the dreaded store with its giant aisles and fluorescent overhead lights. Why he couldn’t just grab the necessities from the gas station near home was beyond him. Not like he never had to do a supply run for someone sick before. Plenty of times he had to do this for Sammy when they were kids. Why she insisted on making him go to this horror show just for some simple things baffled him. But yet, the image of the girl he loved, back in the bunker laid up alone and wallowing in germs gave him the final push he needed to take a step forward, triggering the doors to open.
He grabbed a basket and instantly felt lost and slightly intimidated. Looking around he took the first few hesitant steps towards the endless aisles in front of him. She gave him a list, but he thought it looked pretty sparse of any of the good stuff he used to get Sam. Where were the cans of Chicken & Stars soup… the marshmallow fluff… the boxed mac and cheese? All she asked him to get was oranges, Nyquil and Gatorade.
“Not even a box of Saltines?!” he mumbled incredulously, looking at the paper again and shaking his head.
He started by the produce and found the oranges. Piled high on a display, he absently grabbed the first two his hand touched. A quick avalanche of citrus began rolling down the sides. In a panic, he dropped the basket and caught most before they crashed to the floor. Looking around to see how much attention he gained, he sighed when he realized no one saw. Carefully, Dean placed the oranges back and silently prayed they would stay put.
Snatching his basket and quickly walking away, Dean bypassed most of the home goods aisles until he found himself boxed in by a display of everything you would need to make smores at home. Dean’s eyes lit up and he immediately grabbed one of each, tossing them into the basket, and moving along down towards the cereal. A box of Lucky Charms caught his eye, and he added it to his basket before nodding in satisfaction.
“This is what I’m talking about,” he muttered with a satisfied grin and continued through the aisles, feeling better about his trip to the big box store.
Rounding the corner, his attention was in looking up at the sign for the next aisle. He was hoping the cans of soup would be there somewhere when suddenly the hard bump of a shopping cart rammed straight into his side.
“Excuse you, son!” an older, gray-haired woman admonished as Dean’s box of Lucky Charms went tumbling out of the basket thanks to the collision.
“S-Sorry--” he stuttered, bending down to pick up the box and wrinkled his nose at the narrowed eye expression she was giving him.
She looked into his basket and shook her head. “This generation… can’t even shop for a proper meal,” she mumbled as she moved along her way.
“I hate these places,” he groaned. “Why couldn’t I just go to the Gas n Sip. Coulda got all this there…”
Two aisles later, Dean found the cans of condensed Chicken & Stars soup that was a sure-fire way to get her to feel better. Any time Sam had been sick, Dean would get all the essentials, soup included, making Sammy better in no time. If Dean was feeling fancy, he would crumble the saltines on top and Sam would think it was the best thing in the world. Smiling at the memory, he tossed a few into the basket then went on to find the sports drinks she asked for.
The last item on her very shortlist was the Nyquil. She said it would help her sleep off whatever germs were making her feel like death. He had no doubt that it would, but she would also need sustenance; hence the variety of heavily processed foods he was lugging around in the basket. Half paying attention to where he was wandering, Dean found himself in unfamiliar territory. Thinking he was somewhere near the meds, he began to examine some of the boxes on the shelves.
As he scanned the boxes and tubes in front of him and read the words like ‘Vagisil’ and ‘Summer’s Eve’ his head snapped up and he took a step back. Realizing he was in the feminine hygiene aisle, he quickly turned on his heel and stepped lively towards where he took a wrong turn.
“Wrooong aisle,” he said with a nervous laugh just as he nearly ran into the same old lady he did before.
“You lost, son?” she asked, relishing in the uncomfortable expression he wore.
“I… um… Nyquil?” he stammered.
“One more aisle over,” she replied with an exasperated huff. “Guess this generation can’t read, either.”
Dean held back all the comments that swirled through his mind and continued on to the correct aisle, biting his tongue as he went. Finding the requested item, Dean took a moment to try and discern which variety she would want. Finally plucking the bottle of neon green liquid from the shelves, he then noticed a variety of other things he thought she may need but didn’t ask for. Stuffing the basket full, he felt a raw sense of satisfaction as he examined all the things that were nearly overflowing from it and headed towards the front of the store.
Once Dean finally made it to the checkout. He lined up all of his goodies on the belt and watched as the clerk—Keith, who’s name tag was overshadowed by a giant pin that read, ‘Be Patient with Me! I’m New!’—studied each item slowly, looking for the bar code to rake across the scanner. Dean’s impatience grew with each painstakingly snail-like pass of an item over the register, the resounding beeeep that followed chipping away at the last of his patience.
By the time the pimply-faced teenage clerk picked up the box of tissues, then Lucky Charms, Dean heard him snicker under his breath.
“Sick kid at home?” he asked. “My mom used ta buy this shit for me when I was sick.”
Dean flashed a fake but polite smile. “Girlfriend. And she’s waiting for me, so can we speed this along, a little, please?”
“Girlfriend?” Keith snorted again just as he passed the last item, a jar of marshmallow fluff over the red laser light then held it up, shaking it in a mocking fashion. “What is she, twelve?”
Dean snatched it from his hand, threw it in the bag, and did it all with a glare of his intense green eyes. One that made Keith assume would result in his death should he speak another word.
Continuing to stare down the very young and very nervous cashier, Dean averted his eyes for just a moment, to see a small, plush little teddy bear holding a heart and a miniature mylar ballon, also decked out in hearts, sitting on the top of Keith’s register. Making intense eye contact with Keith, Dean reached out, and added it to the belt and stared the kid down until he finally scanned it, then placed it in the bag.
The small bit of fear reflected in Keith’s expression was enough to calm Dean’s annoyance. “Buddy,” he said, as he relaxed his gaze as he drew out his wallet, looked at the final tally, and slapped down the total amount in cash, “let me tell you something. When you finally get the opportunity to touch a woman--something I assume is still years away for you--and you find the woman that makes you realize that it's all worth fighting for... A trip to the grocery store to get her everything she could possibly need is the easiest thing in the world to do. Even if it means dodging old ladies and Vagisil. Alright?”
Keith could only nod and wait until Dean gathered his few bags up before taking the cash that resided on the metal table beyond the register.
The cool air hit Dean’s face as he exited through the second set of automatic doors that led to the parking lot. Throwing the bags on the floor of the Impala, he slid behind the wheel and smiled a soft, thoughtful smile. It was something he did every time he was about to head home knowing she was there, without even realizing he was doing it.
Back at the bunker, she was curled up in the fetal position in the bed she shared with Dean; head pounding and a sheen of sweat coating her skin. Though she were freezing internally, the fever that raged told her body to both sweat and shiver at the same time. Praying Dean would return soon with the few necessary items, she tried to reposition herself on the bed so she could drink water before falling back down to the mattress, exhausted.
The flu, or whatever it was infesting her, had taken its toll. She had been down for two days, and not able to do much more than lay in bed. Sam had left on a hunt a few days prior, and Dean was doing his best to make sure she had what she needed while still sending Sam support for the job at hand.
Off in the depths of the halls, familiar sounds of footsteps were coming closer. Hoping it was Dean, she did her best to push the sweaty remnants of hair aside and adjust the t-shirt she wore, so she didn’t look as bad as she thought she did. The faint knock at the door made her look up and call out for them to come in, but the dryness of her throat protested, sending her into a coughing fit.
The door opened, Sam was coming in to check on her, but stopped in his tracks and covered his face with his hand when he saw how sick she really was.
“Whoa. What the hell happened to you? When I left you had the sniffles,” he said, his voice muffled through his fingers.
“The flu happened,” she rasped in reply between coughs.
“Where’s Dean?”
“Getting supplies. I hope... He’s been gone a while. Probably because I asked him to go to the actual store. Not the gas station.”
Sam laughed and nodded. “I’m sure he’s having quite the adventure. Alright, let me go see what we got in the kitchen in the meantime. You really do look like crap.”
“Gee. Thanks. Didn’t realize,” she muttered sarcastically before finally falling back to the mattress.
In the kitchen, Sam pulled out a variety of ingredients and was happy to realize he could make what he intended without having to make a supply run of his own. The soup he threw together was simmering, filling the kitchen and surrounding hallways of the bunker with a delicious aroma by the time Dean made it home.
Dropping the bags on the table, Dean watched his brother curiously for a moment as he slipped the jacket from his shoulders.
“What’s that?” he asked, peering over Sam’s much taller shoulder.
“Soup. Or did you not notice the Ebola situation going on in your room?”
“I got her soup. Along with everything else she needs to get better,” he replied, rolling his eyes behind Sam’s back.
Without turning around, Sam replied, “Let me guess. Chicken and stars, marshmallow fluff and saltines.”
“Yeah… but also Nyquil, oranges, and Gatorade,” Dean retorted with an incredulous snort but left out the part where they were her suggestions. “But, yeah, I absolutely got some other necessities. Hey, don’t knock it, they always worked for you.”
“They worked for me because after you turned around and left, I would sneak down to the closest store and get actual medicine and real soup.”
“Real--Sam… this IS real. Just add water, heat, and stir.”
Sam shook his head and turned back to the stove. “My point is, she cannot live and get better off fluff, alone. Go give her the meds and a Gatorade, this will be ready soon.”
Dean silently mocked his brother’s instructions and grabbed the bag with the few things she specifically asked for, along with a few other things he thought she may want. By the time he reached their shared bedroom and cracked the door open, he was relieved to see that she was sleeping peacefully. Her hair was sweaty and pushed back from her face which was still flush with fever, but it didn’t stop him from leaving a sweet kiss against her head.
Placing the bag aside, he retrieved the foul-smelling medicine and poured her a shot in the enclosed cup before gently shaking her awake. As she started to come around, he readied the bottle of Gatorade so she could easily take both and then go back to sleep.
“Hey sleepyhead,” he said as she opened her eyes and smiled despite feeling like she’d been hit by a truck.
“Hey…” she pushed herself up on her elbows and looked around slightly confused. “Did I see Sam here earlier or was that a hallucination?”
Dean laughed. “He’s here. He’s making you soup.”
“Oh… that’s sweet. Did you grab--”
“I got everything on your list, and then some. But for now, take this…” he handed her the medicine, and then the bottle of fruit punch. “Then, have this.”
She did as told and once both were consumed, she laid back down on the pillow and smiled up at him. “Thank you, Dean. I know going to the store was a pain, but--”
“It was fine. As long as you got what you need.”
“I’m surprised you didn’t come back with half the store, honestly.”
“There may or may not be a few more bags in the kitchen. But for now, just get passed this fever, then we can talk about making smores with Lucky Charms.”
“What? Ewe.”
“No, it's good. Trust me. Make ya feel better in no time.”
“Hm, no. I’ll pass, but you knock yourself out,” she giggled and then closed her eyes.
“You rest, okay? I’ll check on you in a bit. Hopefully, you’ll feel better and look a little less…” Dean trailed off, trying to find a nice way to put it.
“A little less… what?”
“Well, you sorta look like a shifter that didn’t quite shift all the way. Kinda pale and gooey,” he shrugged, and despite her weakened state, earned him a solid punch in the arm from his girlfriend.
“Jerk.”
“Yeah, well, you love me,” he winked and stood from the bed. “Oh, I uh, got you a few other things in the bag there. But they can wait. Just get try and get some sleep.”
She rolled her eyes, but then with as much energy as she could muster, reached for the bag and looked inside. Pulling out the small bear with the balloon, her eyes found him quickly and he felt a rush of feeling for how she was looking at him.
“I love it, thank you,” she said and held it close to her. Once she removed the balloon, she burrowed into the covers with the bear and sighed contentedly. Dean bent down to kiss her head again, and before he turned to leave the room, she called out for him.
“Dean, wait.” Sitting up again, she knew she only had another moment before her head dictated she lay it back down. “Thank you for everything. I don’t know how I got so lucky, but thank you for all you do for me.”
“Of course, sweetheart. I’d do anything for you. Get some sleep. I’ll check on you soon.”
He waited until she laid back down and quietly closed the door behind him. A little smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth as he realized she was the one who could potentially domesticate him, the thought of which didn’t scare him the way it would have before. As Dean made his way back towards the kitchen, the only thing that did scare him was realizing he forgot to get any kind of disinfecting spray to bomb the bunker with. Despite how cute she may have looked cuddling the small bear and falling asleep in his bed, he didn’t want anyone else to suffer from her Ebola-like germs.

The Road So Far: A Overview of Supernatural
Hello, again my socially awkward friends and its time again for another review. Well, it's not a review in the normal sense, it is more of an overview. What is this mystery show, at that I will be covering? If the title didn't give it away let me give you a little background on the show.
Premiering on September 13, 2005, on The WB network; it is the longest-running American fantasy tv show. That isn't the only thing, this show is the last remaining original WB network show remaining. Yeah, I'm talking about the tv show supernatural. I'm guessing that you already know that supernatural's 15th season will be the last.
When the news of the final season, came across the wire, I was shocked. I had just recently started watching again, in season 13. Supernatural has always been my go-to show, in times of boredom. Hey, how could it not be? Supernatural has been in Syndication since January of 2010 and i could always find a episode, at the most random times.
All good things must come to an end and supernatural was going to end at some point. Which brings us to present day and I'm doing a full-on binge of supernatural. The current goal is to watch every single episode of supernatural by the October 10th, 2019 premiere date. Currently, I'm in season 8 around episode 16.
So in honor of the final season, I'm going to my 10 favorite supernatural episodes.
10. Season 7 Episode 20: The girl with the dungeons and dragons tattoo
FELICIA DAY ("THE GUILD," "EUREKA") GUEST STARS - Dick Roman (James Patrick Stuart) acquires Frank's hard drive that contains sensitive information about the Winchesters and gives it to an unsuspecting brilliant hacker named Charlie (guest star Day) telling her she has 48 hours to crack the firewall or she is fired. Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) are tipped off that Dick has the hard drive and race to get to Charlie before she breaks the code. Meanwhile, Bobby (Jim Beaver) tries to help the brothers, but his rage towards Dick for killing him starts to get in the way.
9. Season 8 Episode 11: LARP and the real girl
FELICIA DAY RETURNS! - Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) investigate the mysterious deaths of two LARPers (Live Action Role Playing) who were playing a game entitled Moondoor. The guys are thrilled to discover the Queen of Moondoor is none other than Charlie (guest star Felicia Day). The three learn that a fairy (guest star Tiffany Dupont) has been commandeered to harm people and the only way to stop her is to find her master.
8. Season 8 Episode: Pac-Man Forever
DEAN INTRODUCES CHARLIE TO CHEAP PANTSUITS - Concerned about the physical toll the second trial took on Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles) benches his brother from hunting until he heals up. So, when geektastic hacker Charlie (guest star Felicia Day) stumbles upon a case and finds the boys, Dean decides it's time to teach Charlie how to be a hunter-in-training. While happy to see "her highness," the boys suspect Charlie is hiding something; a secret that could get her killed.
Supernatural was my introduction to the wonderful Felicia Day. If it wasn’t for supernatural, i would’ve never have never ave seen The guild.
7. Season 12 Episode 6: Celebrating the life of Asa Fox
THREE WINCHESTERS ARE BETTER THAN ONE – When hunters gather together to celebrate the life and tragic death of one of their own, Sam (Jared Padalecki) Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Mary (guest star Samantha Smith) must take action when a demon starts picking off hunters one by one.
My favorite moment I love the most about this episode is hearing Man in a Box by Alice in Chains. In my opinion, this one song made this episode.
6. Season 11 Episode 4: Baby
NOBODY PUTS BABY IN A CORNER — Seen entirely from the POV of the Impala, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) go on a road trip to fight monsters and demons
5. Season 13 Episode 16: Scoobynatural
JINKIES! "SUPERNATURAL" GETS ANIMATED WHEN SAM, DEAN, AND CASTIEL ARE TRANSPORTED INTO THE WORLD OF SCOOBY-DOO – Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Castiel (Misha Collins) are transported into the animated world of Scooby-Doo where they join forces with the Scooby gang to solve a ghostly mystery.
Try and watch this episode and not think its awesome.
4. Season 13 Episode 10: Wayward Sisters
KATHRYN NEWTON, KIM RHODES, KATHERINE RAMDEEN, BRIANA BUCKMASTER, CLARK BACKO AND YADIRA GUEVARA-PRIP RETURN – When Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) go missing, Jody Mills (guest star Kim Rhodes) calls Claire Novak (guest star Kathryn Newton), the rebellious rogue hunter, and tells her it is time to come home – they need to find the Winchesters. Claire returns and reunites with Alex Jones (guest star Katherine Ramdeen), who has stayed behind with Jody and tries to balance a "normal" life with being a part-time hunter. While Jody is happy to have Claire home again, she's plagued by Patience's (guest star Clark Backo) disturbing vision involving her adopted daughter. Claire and Alex search for Kaia Nieves (guest star Yadira Guevara-Prip), the dreamcatcher responsible for opening the rift that Sam and Dean went through, as she holds the key to their whereabouts. Jody calls her friend, Donna Hanscom (guest star Briana Buckmaster), to round out the team and the women head off on the most important hunt of their lives.
3. Season 5 Episode 5: Fallen Idols
PARIS HILTON GUEST STARS - Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) decide to start hunting together again and their first case leads them to a small town whose inhabitants are being killed by famous dead icons like Abraham Lincoln and James Dean's car. However, after two teenage girls come forward and claim their friend was kidnapped by Paris Hilton (in a cameo role as herself), the brothers aren't sure what they are hunting anymore.
his one is pretty simple, I get to watch Paris Hilton get shived.
2. Season 12 Episode: Don't call me Shurley
ROB BENEDICT RETURNS – Amara (guest star Emily Swallow) unleashes a dark fog on a small town, causing everyone to go mad. Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) realize this is a stronger version of the original black vein virus Amara previously unleashed. They team up with the sheriff to protect the town but their old remedy no longer works. Meanwhile, Chuck (Rob Benedict) returns with an interesting proposal.
Chuck is god! What else can I say? I had my suspicions, that something was up with chuck, but it wasn’t this. Also Rob Benedict’s cover of fare thee well, blew me away.
1. Season 4 Episode 8: Wishful thinking.
A WISHING WELL THAT REALLY WORKS BRINGS CHAOS - Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) investigate a small town where the wishing well really works. A teddy bear comes to life, someone wins the lottery and the town geek gets a hot girlfriend. The brothers realize that while everyone is happy now, the end result will be disastrous.
My all time favorite episode of supernatural. Why is this season 4 episode ,y favorite?, you ask. Well, the answer to that question is quite simple, really. Teddy! Seeing a giant teddy bear try to blow his brains out, with a shotgun, always has me on the floor.
So there is my top 10 list of supernatural episodes. What are your favorite episodes? I would love to read your own top 10 list. Like always; don't forget to like, share, follow, and reblog. until the next time we meet, stay awkward my friends.

On to 2.10, Hunted, where Sam learns what Dean's been hiding from him since John died, and they both wrestle with what it all means as the world takes another leap in emotionally manipulating them into deeper and deeper levels of personal horror. With one minor victory at the end... at least they get Gordon without actually having to kill him (yet... but that's a problem for s3).
So the narrative spiral begins speeding up here. Thanks, Chuck.
Gordon: See, I was doing an exorcism down in Louisiana. Teenage girl, seemed routine, some low-level demon. But between all the jabbering and the head-spinning, the damn thing muttered something. About a coming war. And I don't think it meant to, it just kind of slipped out. But it was too late. Piqued my interest. And you can really make a demon talk, you got the right tools. Dean: And what happened to the girl it was possessing? Gordon: She didn't make it. Dean: Well, you're a son of a bitch. Gordon: That's my momma you're talking about... Anyway. This demon tells me there are soldiers to fight in this coming war. Humans, fighting on hell's side. You believe that? I mean, they're psychics, so they're not exactly pure humans, but still. What kind of worthless scumbag have you got to be to turn against your own race? But you know the biggest kick in the ass? This demon said I knew one of them. Our very own Sammy Winchester.
Gordon gets hold of some information that's deliberately manipulative, and he's just the kind of person who will deliberately and carefully set out a trap just for Sam Winchester, and have absolutely no qualms about killing him based on this info. he sets a trap for Sam by killing other Special Children... Can you say "Chuck pulling strings and setting up his favorites with yet another horrific twist in their already depressing story?"
But all of that happens after Dean is finally compelled to tell Sam the truth:
Dean: He said that he wanted me to watch out for you, to take care of you. Sam: He told you that a million times. Dean: No, this time was different. He said that I had to save you. Sam: Save me from what? Dean: He just said that I had to save you, that nothing else mattered; and that if I couldn't, I'd... Sam: You'd what, Dean? Dean: That I'd have to kill you. He said that I might have to kill you, Sammy.
And Sam is, of course, justifiably pissed-- both at Dean for keeping it from him and at John for leaving them with this horrific bit of info without any further explanation. What does this even MEAN for Sam? About Sam? He's TERRIFIED. What is in store for him, and what might the demon have planned for him?
Does he even have any CHOICE in this matter or is it gonna be a switch flipping inside him, erasing Sam Winchester and replacing it with the sort of monstrous creatures the townspeople in 2.09 became? And what damage might he inflict if Dean again fails to pull the trigger on him?
Through Sam's interactions with Ava, we learn more about Sam and Dean's backup measures we got a look at in 2.07-- they've got secret code words to alert each other to danger, and backup plans in place for this exact situation, namely Dean being held at gunpoint as bait for Sam. Sam's armed and prepared to walk into a trap, and pulls a Sam Special of wiggling out of danger. But first he sets up an awful bit of dramatic irony:
SAM: You've done all you can. Just, just go back to your fiance. AVA: Are you sure? SAM: Yes, I'm sure. Go home, Ava. You'll be safe there.
Lol forever... sure she'll be safe there... until the demon comes for her, leaving her fiance slaughtered. And we won't know her fate until 2.21, but it's effectively the thing Sam is terrified the demon will do to him... Thing is, in that epiosde, we will learn that it was all always Ava's own choice, every step of the way. Yeah, she was manipulated into believing her own survival was on the line (and it technically was), but every choice she made drew her deeper and deeper into the demon's power and control, as she chose to relinquish her autonomy at every turn in exchange for not only survival, but dominance in this larger "game" the demon set in place.
But for now, Dean hints at what this all means, and finally asserts his own defiance in the face of this horror. Telling Sam the truth, and seeing proof of Sam's inherent "goodness" in how he handled Gordon Walker-- not by killing him but by setting him up to be arrested by the police-- and then having someone to share in the burden gives him new confidence in whatever unknowns they may face going forward.
Dean puts forward the notion from the beginning of the episode, running away from their problems, but this time it's more lighthearted. He tells Sam never to run off like that again (which, hello, becomes the refrain of TFW over and over again through the years-- the "we'll face it together")
DEAN: Screw the job. Screw it, man, I'm sick of the job anyway. I mean, we don't get paid, we don't get thanked. The only thing we get's bad luck. SAM: Well, come on, dude, you're a hunter. I mean, it's what you were meant to do. DEAN: Ah, I wasn't meant to do anything, I don't believe in that destiny crap. SAM: You mean you don't believe in my destiny. DEAN: Yeah, whatever. SAM: Look, Dean, I've tried running before. I mean, I ran all the way to California and look what happened. You can't run from this. And you can't protect me. Dean looks at him. DEAN: I can try. SAM (quietly): Thanks for that. (DEAN nods) Look, Dean, I'm gonna keep hunting. I mean, whatever is coming, I'm taking it head-on, so if you really want to watch my back, then I guess you're gonna have to stick around.
and there it is, both their greatest weakness and their greatest strength, but it's what carries them through everything. Screw destiny, right in the face. Team Free Will 0.1.
#spn 2.10#s14 hellatus rewatch#team free will does fun stuff for fun#it's spirals all the way down#spiders georg of the tnt loop#i know there's two more episodes on today but i'm officially in downtown migraineland now so I'll watch and catch up later >.>

Later on, back at the motel room, Sam was sitting on the bed, done with his part to find out where the phone number came from. Dean was on the laptop, trying to figure out who Linda was, or is. You, on the other hand, were beat. You sat next to Dean and with your head on his shoulder, watched him browse the internet for Linda. Sooner or later, he found her.
“Did you find her yet?” Sam asked, half laying on the bed while the TV was playing in the background.
“Yeah, Linda Bateman. She and Ben Waters were high school sweethearts.”
“So, what happened?”
“Drunk driver hit them head on. Ben survived she didn’t.” You answered for Dean.
“So, what then? Dead flame calls to chat?” Sam asked, sitting up and turning off the TV.
“You would think, but Linda was cremated. So why is she still floating around?” Dean asked, sighing as he leaned back. You slid your hand down his arm and grabbed his hand, sliding your fingers through his. He looked over at you and pressed his lips to your forehead before looking at his brother.
“You got me.” Sam sighed.
“What about caller ID? Anything?” You asked.
“Well, turns out, it’s an actual phone number.”
“No phone number I've ever seen.” Dean added.
“Yeah, because it's about a century old, back from when phones had cranks.”
“So, why use that number to reach out and touch someone?” You asked.
“Got me there too, but we should put a trace on it.”
“How the hell are we going to put a trace on something that's over 100 years old?” Dean asked.
“That was my first thought too but turns out there is a phone company that does all this right here in town. It’s a popular company too so we just dress like we’re from HQ and let’s go see where this number came from.” Sam said, getting up and grabbing his Fed clothes. You sighed and let go of Dean, getting up to do the same.
Arriving at the phone company place, you met a man who would escort you down to the basement where you would get to meet the person who would trace the call. Immediately upon meeting the man, you got a weird vibe from him. You didn’t know if it was because you were stressed about Dean’s situation or it was something else but you couldn’t take your eyes off him.
“We don't get many folks from HQ down here.” The man said, guiding you down the hall.
“Yes, well the main office mentioned that there would be a lunch.” Dean said with a smirk and when the man’s back was turned, Sam gave him a bitch face. Dean shrugged but followed the man. You still hadn’t said a word.
“Well I'm sure we can arrange something. The man you wanna be speaking to is right this…” The man trailed off. Sam swatted at a fly that was buzzing around and the man sighed. “I know, sorry. We've got something of a hygiene issue down here if you ask me.”
“Stewie?” The man called out once you got to an office of some kind. You walked through the door and bit back a smile when you saw the man at the computer, the man who would be helping you, had multiple popups of porn sites. “What did I tell you about keeping this place clean?”
Stewie jumped at the intrusion and began closing the porn sites quickly but they just kept popping back up. You cleared your throat and looked at the brothers who were also amused. You looked at the manager and you lost your smile. You glared slightly at him because you wanted him to know you didn’t like him.
“Spam mail... spam mail…” Stewie muttered. “I don't know how all this got here…” The manager reached out and flicked Stewie’s head, making the startled man jump and turn around in his chair.
“Stewie, this is Mr. Randall, Mr. Baker and Ms. Press. From headquarters.” The manager introduced you and the Winchesters. You looked at Stewie who awkwardly crossed his legs as if to hide his obvious erection.
“Give these folks whatever they need.” The manager ordered and Stewie nodded, flustered.
“Thank you.” Dean said with a tight smile.
“Yeah, thanks.” Sam echoed his brother. The man smiled and left the room. You bit your lip and looked out the room to watch the man walk away. What was so weird about him? Was he the monster in the case? You would have gotten a more profound vibe from him if he was. There was just something off about him.
Just as the man got to the corner, he turned his head and made eye contact with you, as if he knew you were watching him. You glared at him and you could have sworn you saw a smirk on his face right before he disappeared around the corner. You cleared your throat and turned back to the brothers and the pervert.
“So... can I help you?” Stewie asked.
“Is that, ahhh, BustyAsianBeauties.com?” Dean asked with a smirk, now that the manager was gone. You rolled your eyes and slapped his arm lightly.
“Come on, Dean.” You whispered so that only he heard.
“No.” Stewie said quickly just as a woman on the screen began talking.
“Oh, me so horny.” Stewie turned in his chair and quickly closed out of the porn site.
“Maybe.” Stewie said.
“A word to the wise? Platinum membership? Worth every penny. Ha?” Dean smirked and you looked at him, not amused.
“You want to lose the real thing?” You asked him and he instantly lost his smirk. That’s what you thought.
“Right, anyway, we’re here to trace a number.” Sam said, handing Stewie a piece of paper.
“Where did you get this?” Stewie asked, looking at the number.
“Off caller ID.”
“Oh no, that’s impossible.”
“It hasn’t been used in a few years, we know.” Dean responded.
“A few years? It's prehistoric. Trust me, nobody is using this number anymore.”
“Sure, could you run it anyway?” Sam asked, not caring about his excuses for the number.
“Sure. Why don't I just rearrange my whole life first.” Stewie responded snarkily. You glared at him, annoyed at everything today. You didn’t know why your patience was like this but you didn’t have time for bullshit.
“Listen, uh, Stewie?” You said, moving closer to him. “You got like six kinds of employee code violations down here, not to mention the sickening porn that is clogging up your hard drive. Now, when my partner says run the number, I suggest you run the damn number!” All three of you gave Stewie a hard look and he sighed, turning back to his console.
“Okay, whatever, jeez!” Stevie grumbled. You rolled your eyes out of annoyance and watched him work. You felt Dean’s hand on your shoulder but you shrugged him off. Just as you did that, a long list of numbers appeared on Stewie’s computer.
“Holy shit.” He muttered.
“What?” You asked.
“I can't tell you where the number comes from, but I can tell you where it's been going.”
“What do you mean?” Sam asked. Stewie printed the screen and handed the paper to Sam, avoiding your gaze.
“Ten different numbers in the past few weeks, all got calls from the same number.” He looked between you, Sam and Dean. You nodded and looked at the brothers who looked back at you.
“Thanks, Stewie.” Sam said.
“So, are we done here? Cause I was… sort of… busy?” Dean smirked at this and you sighed, leaving the room in annoyance. You didn’t know why you were being this way. Immediately, the Winchesters were on your tail as you left Stewie’s office and also the building.
“Wait, sweetheart, what’s wrong?” Dean stopped you from walking.
“Sorry, Dean, I am just very annoyed. I don’t know why I’m like this. Everything seems to be annoying me.” You sighed and looked at him.
“Okay, well, we have a list of addresses and names on this list so we should split up and see if anyone has seen or heard anything weird.” Dean said, taking the paper from Sam’s hand and taking a picture of it on his phone. You did the same before handing the paper back to Sam.
“Okay, we’ll meet up back at the motel later, okay?’ You said, walking away before anyone else could say something. You heard both brothers sigh and you thought you were alone until a hand stopped you from walking. You looked back to see Dean and you bit your lip.
“Sorry, okay? It’ll pass and I’ll be back to normal.” You started to say but you were cut off by his lips on yours. You welcomed them, not knowing when kissing him would be your last time. You reached up and gripped the front of his shirt tightly as you kissed him back. He knew what was bothering you and once he pulled away, he smiled gently.
“You’re going to be okay.” He tried to assure you.
“Am I?” You whispered before clenching your jaw. You sighed and got out of his grip before leaving his side. You didn’t look back as you walked down the street to the first address on the list. This was going to be a long day, you just knew it.
You’ve checked about 5 houses but no one had heard anything weird or seen anything weird. You were just about to give up and go back to the motel room when you approached the last house. You sighed and walked up the stairs and knocked on the door. A middle-aged man opened the door and you noticed a 6 or 7-year-old boy standing by his feet.
“Yeah?” The man asked.
“Hello sir, I am with the phone company?” You started to say but he frowned in confusion.
“We didn’t call the phone company.”
“Oh no, sir, we’re calling you. We’ve had a lot of complaints from the neighborhood lately.”
“Complaints?” He asked.
“Yes sir. Dropped calls, static, maybe even strange voices on the other end of the line?” You noticed a teenage girl appear behind her dad and at your words, she looked startled. Maybe you shouldn’t be talking with the man, you should be talking with her, judging by the look on her face.
“No, we haven’t had any of that here.” The man said.
“Nothing?” You asked, looking at him than at the girl who made eye contact with you.
“No.”
“Okay, great, just thought we’d check. Thanks.” You smiled at him.
“No problem. Come on, Simon.” The man said to you before talking to his son. As the door closed, you made eye contact with the girl who looked startled. You kept it until the door closed. You sighed and turned around, walking away from the house. That girl knew something and you needed to know what she knew but you didn't know how to approach the subject.
“No way you work for the phone company.” You turned around and saw the teenage girl standing behind you.
“Sure I do.” You smiled at her.
“Since when does a phone girl wear a cheap suit or have a gun strapped to her hip?” She said and you blushed slightly, pulling your jacket closer. You’d figure having your gun strapped to your hip would be better instead of behind your back where it would be more noticeable.
“Yeah, well, maybe we’re both keeping secrets.” You said to her.
“Why did you ask my Dad if he's hearing strange voices on the phone?”
“Why, did you hear something?” You asked and she immediately answered and you knew she had.
“No.”
“My mistake, I thought you did.” You said, giving her a second chance to tell you but she didn’t take it.
“Well, I didn't, okay?” She said defensively. You smiled at her and nodded.
“Okay, sorry to bother you,” The girl just stood there, looking uncomfortable. She had something to say and you wanted her to know you were someone you could trust. “Because you know, if you did, then I would have told you that I've been right where you're standing right now. Hearing things, even seeing things that can't be explained. Maybe I would have been able to help out a little bit. Anyway…”
“Hey, wait,” She said just as you turned away. “Maybe… maybe I’ve been talking on the phone… with my mom.”
“That’s not so strange.” You said.
“She’s dead. Like three years now.”
“How often does she call you?” You asked.
“A few times. It started a week ago. I thought I was like, crazy or something.”
“I can tell you one thing for sure, and you're going to have to go with me on this, okay? You're not crazy. Here, take this and if she calls again, call me. Me and my partners know a little something about this kind of stuff. You can trust us...” You handed her a card and she took it hesitantly.
“Thanks.” She whispered.
“Just doing my job.” You winked at her before turning and walking away from her. You didn’t have a car to get anywhere so you had to walk. Good thing you opted to wear your flats instead of your heels. You took out your phone and dialed Sam who picked up on the third ring.
“Yeah?”
“Hey, this caller has been calling everyone in this town. People didn’t have to tell me for me to know. Perks of being a witch or something. I know when people are lying.”
“I don’t envy you.” Sam chuckled.
“Did Dean find anything?”
“Unless you count an old woman having phone sex with her dead husband, no.”
“Great. I just talked with this girl who said she’s been having conversations with her dead mom of three years. I told her if she calls again, to call me. Other than that, I got nothing.”
“Okay, I’ll call you later with what I find.”
“Okay, bye.” You said before hanging up. Just as you put your phone back in your pocket, it began ringing again. You sighed and took it out again and without looking at the caller ID, you answered it, thinking it was Sam.
“Yeah, what?’ You asked but there was nothing on the other line except static.
“Sam? Dean?” You asked but no one answered you. You were about to hang up but you heard the one voice you never thought you would hear again.
“Y/N?” Your mom said on the other line. You stopped walking and got tears. “Y/N is that you?”
“Mom?” You asked, your voice wavering. As quickly as the call came in, it stopped just like that. You heard nothing on the other line and you looked at your phone but it didn’t show any signs of being on a call. You let a tear fall but quickly wiped it away. You had to get to the motel room now. You shot a text to the brothers before making your way to the room.
Get back NOW.

#140 " This was fun— Lets do it again sometime!"
What to expect: Past infidelity mentioned and a family reunion!
Read below or read on FF.NET | AO3
Sam's sitting in the passenger seat of the Impala, a pocket flashlight in hand as he reads over a file of one Genim Stilinski. Dean had woken him in the middle of the night with no explanation other than telling him to get dressed and to pack his best FBI suit. Then it was only when they were on the road did Dean slip out the thick file from under his thigh and toss it into Sam's lap.
"So are you going to tell me why I'm reading a rather amusing report of some sixteen year old who stole a police van and pretend!kidnapped another high school teenager?" Sam asks. "What gives?"
Dean's hands tighten on the steering wheel, enough so that Sam actually hears it creak. "She's our baby sister."
Sam does a double take, flashing the light on his brother's face to see his jaw clench. "Excuse me? What did you just say?"
"Exactly what you heard. There's another living and breathing Winchester, Sammy."
"How is that even possible?" Sam wonders, shocked.
"Don't know. Cas didn't give me all the dirty details of Dad's past."
"I don't want the details about how she was conceived, jerk. I wanna know how we didn't know another Winchester was out there. The angels hunted our bloodline. Remember Adam? Why did they know about him, but not her?"
"Cas mentioned something about that." Dean shrugs. "Something about the town she was born in. It has some weird mojo around it. They weren't able to sense her until she left the town after graduation. Apparently she got accepted into the FBI program," he says and then promptly snorts. "Can you believe that? Our little sister is going to have a real badge."
Sam shakes his head, grinning faintly. "You're taking the news fairly well." Dean only grunts in response. "Are you sure posing as a government agent on a Federal Government Campus is a bright idea though?"
"We're not headed there. Cas and a few of his trusted brethren kept an eye on her, and apparently Genim slipped off angel radar so we're headed to Beacon Hills where the town is known to shield her. The only person we have to con is her father. The sheriff."
Sam can only sigh in response. Conning an officer of the law was always a tricky situation.
As Dean drove straight on through the night, Sam researched Beacon Hills via his phone. The little town had a lot of suspicious activity, something which Sam tells his brother about, and the two had been suddenly glad to be headed there. Because while they try to get the scoop on their apparent little sister, they can also check the town out for any activity that would need their attention.
The Winchesters had strolled up to the Stilinski household the following night, having parked around the corner before heading to the Sheriff's home. They donned their most impressive suits and picked out their FBI badges from a shoe box that had been in the trunk of their car. They were playing with fire given that Genim was enrolled into the FBI program and could possibly make a phone call to check their credentials if she really was the little terror her file said she was, but if this kid really was who the angels said she was.. well then they could easily explain things. Hopefully.
"You ready?" Sam asks, staring up at the average cookie-cutter home.
"As I'll ever be."
Both brothers exit the Impala, glancing up and down the darkened street. The Sheriff's SUV sits in the driveway, so Sam and Dean know at least that their little sister's father is home.
Sam rings the doorbell upon stepping foot on the porch and both brothers smooth down their jackets before reaching for their badges. A middle-aged man answers the door, studying the two of them while Dean immediately holds his badge up for the man to see.
"Sheriff Stilinski, I'm agent Walsh and this is my partner agent Grimes," he says while gesturing to Sam. "We'd like to ask you a few questions-"
"Son, just stop," Stilinski says, shaking his head and sighing. "I know who you are."
Sam stands a little straighter. "I'm sorry?"
Stilinski glances at Sam as he huffs a laugh. "Dean looks like your father." Both brothers tense, but Stilinski merely takes a step back and opens the door wider as an invitation. "Gotta admit though, boys, I expected you Winchesters a lot sooner. Come on in and have a seat. We'll talk then."
Sam and Dean hesitantly enter the home and Stilinski shuts the door behind them before leading them to the living room. Once all three are seated, Stilinski looks at the both of them. "Before you get started, I thought you should know my name is Noah. Not Sheriff or Mr. Stilinski. Got it?" The Winchesters nod. "Good. Now what do you boys know of Genim?"
"Er," Sam mutters. "Not much. We got our hands on a file and know her past is quite.. colorful."
Noah snorts. "That's one way of putting it. Stiles was never one to toe the line. She completely surpassed it."
"Stiles?" Dean asks, scoffing. "What the hell is a Stiles?"
"Stiles is your sister. After her mother passed away, she took it really hard. We both did, but Stiles more so than I. She doesn't like to be called Genim anymore."
"Noted," Dean grunts. "Now before we get further into.. Stiles' past, I want to know how the hell you knew about us? We for sure thought it was going to be a lot more complicated than this." Sam nods in agreement.
Noah sighs as he relaxes further in his seat. "Believe it or not, Claudia came clean about the one night stand she had with your father," he says. "I was angry, but we overcame it and I helped her through her pregnancy when your father John immediately gave up his rights to his future child." Sam and Dean shift uncomfortably in their seats. "After Stiles was born, I dug into John's past. When I saw he had two sons, I knew I had to tell Stiles about her two brothers as soon as she was old enough to understand."
"S-So she knows about us?" Sam asks, incredulous.
"Yep. There was a lot of anger and it took months to overcome, but she did. Then she asked about you two, I helped her dig into your files-"
"Our files?" Dean tenses in his seat. "Y-You've seen our files?"
"Mhm."
"And you're not- you're don't have any questions about what the police have said we've done?" This time it's Sam who asks, he sharing nervous glances with his brother.
"Honestly? I thought you boys were murdering psychopaths," Noah chuckles. "And after I read everything, I banned Stiles from ever looking into you and she agreed when I told her why. But then-" At this, Sam and Dean sit taller in their seats. "-then I found out the world wasn't as.. normal as us mere humans were led to believe."
"What do you mean by that?" Dean frowns.
"You know exactly what I mean," Noah tells him. "So anyway, I then revisited your boys' past with fresh eyes because something about it always seemed fishy to me, and can I just say I'm proud of what you boys do? I'm not proud of these fakes badges and suits," he says while gesturing them up and down, "but I'm proud of what you do for those who need the help other authority figures won't give them because they think they're crazy."
Sam's practically gaping. "How did you find out?"
"Well.." Noah trails off, sighing a little before laughing. "You boys have no idea just how alike you and Stiles actually are."
Noah goes on to tell Sam and Dean all about Stiles and the fact that her best friend since they were in diapers is an alpha werewolf. The boys immediately tried to protest about how dangerous it was to be close to a werewolf, but Noah patiently explained how the pack of Beacon Hills operated and their role in keeping the town safe. And by the end of his brief explanation, the two Winchesters were left to think about what they knew and they didn't know about the supernatural.
The Winchester boys are floored to learn about all the danger Stiles has thrown herself into and the fact that these misfit bunch of young adults were just kids when they were turned. They're amazed at everyone's story that Noah has for them and angry at all the times Stiles was hurt because of those she surrounds herself with, but Noah tells them that as much as he wanted to grab his baby girl and run.. he couldn't take the Pack Mom out of the McCall pack without causing major discord between them. Stiles is linked to the pack as if she were a supernatural creature herself and it's highly unlikely she'd ever leave them.
Noah's in the middle of telling them about how the whole town actually knows about supernatural creatures existing thanks to the Anuk-Ite who fueled everyone's fear and paranoia when the front door slams open. Noah, Sam and Dean are immediately on their feet, but Noah's shoulders drop when the voice calls out.
"Dad! Code wolfsbane. Derek's been hit."
A young woman staggers into the room, holding most of the weight of a rather decently muscled male who's clutching as his blood soaked shirt over his abdomen. Noah lunges forward to help his daughter carry the weight of the apparent 'Derek' who's looking a little green around the gills and they drop him on the newly vacated couch. Derek groans, hands clenching into fists as he arches off the couch in pain.
"Shit, shit, shit," Stiles curses. She glances at her dad, then at the two men behind her father and tenses. "Who are you?" She asks, moving to stand guard in front of the injured man.
"You, uh, you have blood on your face?" Sam says, gesturing to his own cheek to show her where it's at on her.
Stiles subtly pales as a look of brief horror changes her expression. She wipes it off slowly and anger quickly makes a reappearance. "What are you doing in my house?" She then asks. Derek snarls from behind her back and the two men whip out guns while trying to eye him around Stiles' stance.
Noah steps between the two groups. "Would you put those away!" He scolds Sam and Dean, and they slowly lower them. "Derek probably smelled the gun powder on you and that's why he snarled."
"They.. smell.. like.. hunters," he growls.
Noah sighs. "They are, but it's not what you think."
"Then why don't you tell us what is before Derek dies on our couch, Dad. Because seriously, what the hell!?" She glares at them and then at the guns they're still gripping down by their thighs.
Dean snorts and Sam elbows him, muttering a low, "Dude!"
"Stiles, meet Sam and Dean. Winchester. Boys, meet your little sister Stiles."
Stiles gapes as the two men then smirk at her, her eyes lighting up with excitement before Derek groans a little in pain and her attention is back on him once again. "Shit. Okay. Family reunion later, saving Derek's life right now."
Surprisingly it's Sam who steps forward. "What does he need?"
Derek glances at him and Sam gulps when he sees the man's eyes flare an eerie blue on and off. "Usually we'd need the exact strand of wolfsbane he was poisoned with to counteract what's in his blood right now, but we're fresh out of it all," Stiles answers. "Our only option right now is a blow torch, but we're fresh out of those as well."
"What do you need a blow torch for?" Sam asks.
"To burn out the wolfsbane in his wound."
Dean's eyes widen. "Awesome."
"We actually have one in our trunk," Sam says. When Stiles and Noah stare at him, he shrugs sheepishly. "What? It's better to have something and not need it, then not having something when you really need it."
"Whatever you say, Samuel," Stiles blurts. "Can you go get it? Derek was hit about thirty minutes ago which means the strand he was poisoned with is fast acting."
"Of course."
Dean tosses Sam the car keys and Sam takes off in a hurry.
As Stiles kneels by Derek's side to wipe the sweat from his forehead with the sleeve of her shirt, Noah asks, "What the hell happened?"
"Monroe happened," she says. "She came back for Scott again, but Derek took the bullet meant for him instead. There were too many hunters and flash grenades. We got separated."
Dean softly swears.
"Was anyone else hurt?" Noah asks, already pulling out his phone to inform the others that Stiles and Derek were with him.
"Lydia was grazed and Liam took an arrow to the back of his thigh. It wasn't poisoned though, so he healed right away."
"Good."
Sam rushes back inside, blow torch in hand. "Now what?"
"Now someone, who isn't me, is going to hold the flame of the blow torch to Derek's gunshot wound to literally burn out the poison. You'll know it's all out when he passes out."
"Dibs," Dean immediately calls out. Sam huffs while tossing his brother the small hand held torch and Dean happily ignites it. Noah grimaces, as does Stiles.
"It should go without saying that if I find you taking too much pleasure in doing this to my boyfriend," Stiles says, putting emphasis on the 'b' word as she stands and faces Dean, "then I'll deck you in the balls. Repeatedly."
"Boyfriend?" He asks, face scrunched. "Seriously?!"
"Seriously. Now hurry up and help my boyfriend. The sooner this is over, the sooner we can get the dirty details of each other's lives."
Dean grumbles as he steps forward and Stiles turns around before bending down to shoo away Derek's hands. She grimaces as she lifts the shirt sticking to his wound and gags right along with Dean when the infected wound is exposed.
"Aw gross, man. That is one gnarly infection." Stiles huffs at Dean as she shuffles over to allow him more room. Even though her strength is nothing compared to that of a werewolf's, Stiles still plants her hands on Derek's shoulders and presses down. "Well here goes nothing."
Dean puts the flame to Derek's wound and fights the urge to pull a weapon when the wolf snarls in rage. Sam joins Stiles in trying to keep Derek still and stares on in awe as the man's features shift in his discomfort. The fire doesn't actually burn Derek and there's a purple smoke that rises from where Dean has the fire pointed.
After what seems like several long minutes, but is actually only twenty or so seconds, Derek collapses back on the couch and passes out. Dean cuts off the blow torch and tosses it aside and Stiles slumps onto Derek's chest. After a few seconds, she pushes herself to feet and wobbles in place. She looks paler than before and glances at Sam and Dean, and flashes them two thumb's up with a shaky smile. "This was fun— Lets do it again sometime!"
Stiles promptly passes out and the three standing men watch on as she falls half on Derek and half on the floor. Sam and Dean can only gape, and it's Noah who laughs out loud. Walking between Sam and Dean, Noah claps them on the shoulders. "Welcome to the family, boys. Better get used to this craziness if you plan to stick around and know Stiles."
The two brothers glance at one another while Dean shrugs. "We've had crazier."

Chapter 33: New Man
Spike’s heart pounded against his ribs, begging for a break. His lungs burned, each breath large and deep, like he was trying to inhale oceans. He ran until sweat dripped into his eyes. He wiped his forehead and stared at his fingertips glistening in the sunlight.
Having run from the house in a t-shirt, the cool winter air nipped at his damp skin until goosebumps peppered his arms. He was still on the outskirts of town surrounded by houses and one mission-style Catholic church.
It clearly not being a day for bursting into flames, Spike entered the church and found two old women praying at the altar. He couldn’t smell them over the incense. Usually, old women reeked of creams, ointments, and god-awful perfume. The stench was part of why vampires avoided the elderly.
He stole a seat in the back at stared at the twisted body hanging at the front of the sanctuary. Like any good Victorian Londoner, Spike had been raised in the church, Anglican specifically, but the idea of God escaped him. Why would anyone, let alone the son of God, sacrifice themselves for him? Who believed he merited a second chance?
An elderly priest leaned into his pew. “Can I help you, my son?”
“Yeah, thought I’d start the new year off right with God, but I seem to ‘ave forgotten my prayer beads.”
The priest smiled at him. “You may borrow mine.” He pulled his rosary, a simple design of dark wood with a brass cross, from his pocket, and dropped it in the vampire’s hands.
The vampire did not burn.
All Dean could understand from the girls screaming at each other was that someone’s something had gone missing. Buffy and Willow were doing their best to calm the situation when he and Sam decided to seek out the quiet of the still-wrecked Impala parked in Buffy’s driveway.
“Maybe it was a mistake not telling them about Lucifer,” Dean said, bunching up a blanket to use as a pillow.
“Trust me, Lucifer isn’t comforting news. Besides, I think they’re still riding the high of burning those Bringers; plus, most of them are starting a new school Monday. Probably shouldn't add to the emotional cocktail.”
“Are you done touching the feelings?”
Sam shrugged. “I just remember what it was like to be a teenager-by-day, monster-fighter-by-night. Add to that, they’re far from home, have cultural barriers, and are all pretty new to this. They’re not going to be insta-buddies. Besides, it’s not like we didn’t have stupid fights when we were kids.”
“We’d have had fewer fights if you weren’t so stubborn.” A light rain began to patter on the car. The clouds gave the sunset an eerie glow.
Sam tapped the front bench seat, staring at his fingers like they were giving him a message in Morse Code. “I’ve been doing some research.”
“Water is wet.” Dean’s joking did nothing to ease the anxiety on his brother’s face.
“According to Slayer lore--”
“Here we go.”
“--the first Slayer was created by combining the ‘heart of a demon’ whatever that means, with some teenage girl. Good news is, nothing happened to Buffy when we did the exorcism so--”
“The fuck?” Dean shot up, ignoring his sore body while his blood boiled. “No. You do not just move on from that statement. Were you fucking experimenting on my girlfriend because you thought she was fucking possessed?”
“I didn’t think she was possessed, but that’s what the lore says,” Sam said, innocently. “If I thought she was dangerous, I would have told you.”
Dean knew the look on his brother’s face, and knew he wasn’t sorry one bit. He tamped down the desire to sock Sam in the jaw. “Don’t fucking put on that innocent puppy face with me! What the fuck were you thinking?”
“I was thinking she’s a vessel, too, and I wanted to know what ‘heart of a demon’ meant because clearly it’s not literal demonic possession.”
“Fuck no it’s not!”
“God, take a breath, Dean. You’re turning purple.”
“Don’t fucking tell me to calm down!” he yelled. “For once in my life, I feel like I have a fucking life. There is this amazing woman who actually gives a rat’s ass about me for more than one night -- hell, she loves me for christssake -- and you’re pokin’ at her to find out what makes her tick?”
“I didn’t want to tell you because, crazy idea, I thought you’d lose your shit,” Sam snapped.
Dean’s ribs reminded him they were still healing as he tried to take deep breaths. “You have no right.”
Scratching his head, Sam sighed. “Dean, how many comic books have you read? How many horror movies have you seen? Whatever the Slayer is, there’s an origin story, but it’s not the story that’s in the lore. I just want to know why there’s a monster-fighting superhero here, but not at home.”
They glared at each other, jaws clenched, nostrils flaring, for a minute before Sam asked, “Do you want to know what I’ve found?’
Dean didn’t, but he did. He leaned back against the seat and tried to relax.
“Remember how I was looking into possession? It looks like there are only a few types of people who can be possessed -- Slayers, vampires, and witches -- and each has special conditions under which it can happen. We know when someone gets bitten by a vamp, they lose their soul and the demon takes their corpse for a ride. Given what we just did to Spike, that one pans out. But the lore says the Slayer is also possessed by a demon, and that just doesn’t hold --”
There was a knock on the window before Buffy opened the door and climbed in the seat with Dean. “Hope I’m not interrupting anything. I’m super jealous of the calm in here.” Damp from the drizzle, she nestled against her boyfriend.
Dean was happy to be holding her no matter what his brother thought. He kissed the top of her head, eliciting a contented sigh.
“Should I leave you two alone?” Sam asked.
“Shut up,” said Buffy. “Today’s been weird, okay?”
“Girls okay?”
“Okay-ish? No one’s talking to Lili, but I’m too worried about Spike to care.”
After being freed from the demon parasite that had been riding him for over a century, Spike had run out into the daylight and disappeared. At first, Buffy had been practically giddy. They had taken something from the darkness, but as the day wore on and Spike did not return, she poured her nervous energy into scrubbing the entire house from top to bottom and snapping at anyone who came near. It was like waiting to hear news from the surgeon. Someone had been opened up, but was the operation successful?
“I’m sure the poofy’s fine. He’s probably sulking in a mausoleum somewhere.”
“Or he’s being tortured by Lucifer again,” she said.
“Is he even still a vampire?” asked Sam. “I’m not sure the vampire and the demon are separate here.”
Dean glared at his brother. Not that he shared Buffy’s concern, but the last thing he wanted to do was compound her worries.
She drew little patterns on Dean’s chest with her fingertips, a habit when she was mulling an idea over. “If Spike is okay, if the exorcism managed to get rid of the demon and save the man, I was wondering if we could head to Los Angeles after all this Lucifer stuff is over and maybe --”
“I guess we could ask him,” Sam said, pointing to the end of the driveway where a pale figure paced back and forth in the rain.
They got out of the car as Spike walked by, shivering in his t-shirt. “Got a bloody clown car going?”
“Where have you been?” Buffy asked.
“Around.” He shuffled his feet and bounced, trying to get warm. “Can go all sorts of places in the daylight now.”
Dean tossed him a blanket from the backseat. “You can probably catch cold too. Let’s head in. It’s dinner time.”
The next day, Sam straddled a chair across from Buffy’s desk as they listened to the gaggle of girls on the other side of the cubicle wall. The school’s bewildered guidance counselor was trying to organize the flood of unexpected transfers whose papers Dean had faked.
I can’t believe this is working! Buffy mouthed. Having all but six of them in school all day was a relief.
“I wish we were in the same classes,” Cloé complained in Spanish.
“Chiquita, we’re two grades apart,” Gabi laughed.
“Why couldn’t they lie about that too?”
“It’s only seven hours, and look, we have the same lunch and study hall. Ooh, we have Sam for study hall. He’s cute.”
“Ew, he’s old,” protested Cloé.
Sam pretended he hadn’t heard them and asked Buffy, “Ready to jump back into ‘My parents don’t get me’ and ‘My teachers are so mean?’”
“God yes!” She twirled a pencil in her fingers. “You do remember how unvacationy vacation was, right?”
Sam patted the angry scars that ran across his abs. “I have my holiday souvenirs. Can’t wait for spring break.”
Being back at school was surreal. Sam was about to dive back into nearly eight hours a day helping teenagers and teachers with research, organizing the books, and updating files. Yet his Clark Kent hours bore a sickly green edge today. Caring about the state of the biography section seemed pointless when Lucifer was out of his cage and lurking near the school.
Killing the Turok-Han and a handful of Bringers had been spitting in Lucifer’s eye. Disarming his vampire sleeper agent was stomping the Devil’s toe. Any moment, he could send something new their way -- tormenting visions of the dead, an army of vampires, drunk clowns with knives. Different world. Different rules.
Just then, an unsmiling Principal Wood showed up, eyeing them with suspicion. “Glad to see you’re all up and at ‘em after your accident.”
“Couple of regular Christmas miracles,” said Buffy with a nervous smile.
Wood nodded before turning to Sam, all friendliness gone from his face. “Mr. Winchester, I was hoping to catch you before the bell. Would you mind stepping into my office?”
They walked through the remainder of the girls waiting for a student guide for their first day. Wood assumed his seat and stared at him over steepled fingers. The clock ticked louder than the bustle of students on the other side of the wall. He’d been in enough principals’ offices and interrogation rooms to know this tactic. Sam stared back.
The bell rang.
The clock ticked.
Opening a file, Wood said, “You don’t need to worry about the library. I was able to find a substitute.”
Sam continued to stare.
“I got bored over winter break, decided to investigate. You’re an intelligent man, Mr. Winchester, but something’s always been a little off about you. You swept in out of nowhere right when we needed a new librarian, waving your freshly printed Stanford diploma. You know Mr. Espada the chemistry teacher? He went to Stanford, too. His diploma doesn’t look like yours.” Wood slid copies of both documents across the desk, but Sam ignored them.
“I thought, ‘Maybe they changed the format.’ After all, he graduated a few years before you. But it gnawed at me, so I dug a little further and found Tiffany Tusing. Remember her?”
Judging by the giant smile plastered on Wood’s face, he was about to hit a home-run.
Sam continued to stare.
“Tiffany Tusing died in a car accident in 1993, which I am surprised we didn’t know before seeing as you’re using her social security number. Do you care to tell me why you used the social security number of a dead girl and falsified records to secure a position as Sunnydale High’s librarian?”
“I like books.”
“Suffice to say, as of right now you’re suspended while I investigate further. I will call you when it’s time to clean out your desk.”
Jada was excellent with a knife. Dean sat at the kitchen counter watching her chop vegetables with fury. If she ever decided to throw down against the monsters lurking outside, she wouldn’t be half bad in a fight.
“I still can’t believe he suspended you! Your reviews have been good. He hasn’t complained at all. What is his problem?”
“It’s personality clashes wrapped in politics. I’m sure it will be cleared up soon,” said Sam as he put salmon fillets on a baking sheet. Their fake identities obviously weren’t on the list of supernatural weirdness he’d explained to her.
“Want one, Dean, or are you having dinner with Buffy?” Sam asked with a smirk.
One glance at the fish and Dean curled up his lip in disgust. “Nah, she’s busy with the girls.”
“Girls?” Jada asked brightly, clearly happy to think about something other than how much she hated Principal Wood.
“Remember how I said there’s trouble at Buffy’s?” Sam asked.
“And the trouble is girls?” she repeated with an eyebrow raised. “Little girls or big girls?”
“Too many girls!” Dean grumbled. “Anyway, I think I’ll leave you to your whatever the hell you call that and take this leg out for a spin.” Tired of feeling useless, he had insisted the doctors x-ray his broken ankle. They were shocked to see it had healed in half the normal time, but Dean -- finally cast-less -- scooted out of the hospital before they could start running tests.
“Oh, okay, have a good time, Dean!” Jada waved at him with a smile. She was in comforting mode. He hoped Sam remembered to put a sock on the door.
Full of fries and a cheeseburger, Dean grabbed his beer and sauntered over to the pub’s neglected pool table. Before they’d decided to stay in Sunnydale, he and Sam had hustled pool at every bar in town to keep themselves in beer and scratchy sheets. Enough time had passed, they should be able to do another round. They could at least hit up nearby Santa Barbara. Keep the Potentials in cereal and whatever else a houseful of teenage girls could need.
Halfway through his second rack and third beer, someone said, “You’re pretty good.” At the other end of the table stood a tall, dark man with a goatee and shaved head. He was smiling, friendly.
After Buffy had told Dean about the extensive stalker file she’d found in the principal’s office, he had decided to look Robin Wood up. Brooklyn-born, he moved to the suburbs of Los Angeles after his mother was murdered when he was four. Always athletic, he played baseball and tennis all through school. He’d graduated in the middle of his class at UCLA, and spent several years in Teach for America before heading back to school for an administrative degree. On paper, he seemed like an all-American, up-from-nothing success story. Standing before him now, Dean didn’t like whatever secrets were behind Wood’s shining eyes.
“Wanna play?” Dean asked.
Wood whistled low. “Pretty sure you’d play me out of house and home.”
“Nah,” said Dean, racking the balls, “I only swindle my friends. You new to town, mister, uh?”
“Calvin! Name’s Calvin. Yeah, just moved up here from LA.” Wood extended his hand for a shake, but Dean left him hanging.
“That so?” Dean took the opening break shot, sinking two solids.
“Liking the small town life. Quaint. Calm. What about you, buddy? Lived here long?”
“Few months.”
“What brought you here?”
“Work.”
“Really? What do you do?” Wood asked, clearly determined to keep up his cheerful ruse.
“Exterminator.”
“Exterminator? Are the pests different in Sunnydale than where you’re from?”
“A bit.” Dean sunk two more balls. He was half finished before Wood even started.
Without a clear shot, Wood chose to bump his ball in Dean’s way. “What did you say your name was again?”
“I didn’t.”
Wood pursed his lips and nodded his head. “You’re not the most sociable guy are you?”
“Maybe I just don’t like you,” Dean growled.
“You don’t even know me.”
Dean flexed his fingers. The principal was an inch or two taller than him, with the thick arms of someone who’d spent time punching a bag. But bags didn't hit back.
Dean’s phone rang. Keeping his eye on his new friend, he answered, “Hey Girly. What’s up?”
“I’m done with training. Mind if I come over?” The bubbly tone to her voice indicated patrol had gone well.
“Sounds good.” He hung up and bumped into Wood’s shoulder, smirking. “It’s been fun, Robin. Let’s not do this again.”
Wood banished from his mind, Dean paced his room as he waited on Buffy to arrive. She hadn’t been over since Christmas Eve, and he was still pretty beaten up then. Though he’d spent the last week at her place, they’d barely had any time together.
A satisfied moan came from Sam’s room.
The pressure in Dean’s jeans was painful, so he went to the window to distract himself. He could just make out Orion’s belt through the bright lights of town. Buffy, not knowing where the mythic figures started and stopped, had claimed the cluster of stars making Orion’s shield as her own. The Slayer’s Heart, she called it. It was sappy and silly, but it was theirs. He wanted to share the sky with her.
Turning his face from the heavens to the street, Dean’s smile faded. A blue 1997 Dodge Stratus, the same car Robin Wood drove, was parked across the street. Dean was lacing his boots to confront the principal when Buffy opened his bedroom door.
In an instant, she was in his arms, her legs around his waist as he pressed her against the wall. Their kiss long and deep reveling in their perfect fit. “Missed you, Girly,” he said as he moved to kissing her neck.
A moan rose from deep in her throat as she played with his hair. “I can’t stay long -- twenty minutes tops, but I had to see you.”
He set her on top of his dresser and rubbed her leather-clad thighs. She knew those pants drove him crazy. “You’re smiling like you had a good day.”
“Mostly. You’re out of your cast. Spike came out of the basement and tried to feed himself; Alma had to teach him how to cook. Both Vi and Keisha staked vampires tonight. That’s three successful trainee patrols in a row.”
“I miss patrolling with you.”
“You, mister, are distracting with those kissable lips.” She sucked on his bottom lip like he was her favorite candy. “And that deep, rumbly voice. God, when you talk dirty--” She tugged off his shirt, a wolfish hunger in her eyes. “Other than the little things like Lucifer being out there doing God knows what and Wood suspending Sam--”
“Ugh.” Dean shook his head. “That jackass is outside.”
“What?!”
“Wood. I went down to the bar for dinner, and he was there trying to chat me up. Now he’s parked outside.”
Buffy dashed to the window. “I see you!” she yelled, pointing at her eyes and the car. It pulled away, disappearing down the block.
“Well, he just jumped up my priorities list,” she grumbled, the smile leaving her face for the first time.
“I was gonna pay him a visit tomorrow.”
“Don’t kill him.”
“That’s not Plan A.”
Sliding his hands under her sweater, he cupped one of her breasts. The tension melted from her face as he kneaded her body. “Right now, Plan A is to see how many times I can make you come in twenty minutes.”
“Challenge accepted,” she purred, pushing his pants to the floor.
Robin Wood lived in a small, well-maintained bungalow six blocks from the high school. The inside was sparsely decorated in cheap furniture from I’m Totally Normal Monthly. The warehouse plastic smell of newness still hung in the air. The kitchen drawers were full of kitchen supplies. The living room drawers were full of typical homeowner paperwork, DVDs, travel mementos, and one picture -- an old white man with his arm around a young black boy. The office was equally boring with proposals, budgets, and books on child psychology and educational theory.
It felt like a set.
In the bedroom, an old steamer trunk and a bookcase stuffed with old leather books sat at the foot of the bed. Like in his own room, the trunk was full of stakes, holy water, crossbows and any other weapon a vampire hunter would need. The extensiveness of the collection told him Wood wasn’t new to hunting -- and if he wasn’t new to hunting, maybe he knew who Buffy was.
He grabbed a book from the shelf and started reading.
After a couple of hours, keys jingled in the door. Not working late tonight. Dean listened as Wood walked around the house with the casual care of someone not suspecting an intruder. He lightly laid his finger on the trigger of his gun and aimed it at the door of the bedroom.
Wood entered the room and betraying only the slightest surprise, raised his hands. “I thought you didn’t want hang out anymore, Dean.”
“I believe in second chances. Haven’t decided yet if I want to shoot you, so I’m gonna put this gun down. You’re gonna go for the machete you keep by the door, but I already moved it. And I think you know fucking with me would hurt.”
Dean held up a book, a journal more specifically. “At first, I guessed you were a hunter with a Slayer fetish. Got all these Watcher’s journals to jerk off to. Explains why you’ve been stalking Buffy so hard.
“Then I get to this.”
He read from the first page, “‘She came back. After surviving her Cruciamentum -- while pregnant no less -- I encouraged Nikki to hide. I made all the arrangements and was ready to face the Council when they discovered the truth.
“‘But I should have known Nikki Wood couldn’t stay away from a fight. She returned with her infant son and went right back into the dark, stake in hand.
“‘Her son is sleeping soundly in a makeshift bed beside me while his mother is out saving the world. It’s not fair she was chosen. Not fair that so much will be taken from her. It is not the boy’s fault, and I fear what will become of Robin when his mother meets her inevitable end.’”
Dean snapped the book shut. “Your mother was a Slayer. So what, you have some oedipal crush on Buffy?”
“Don’t act like you know me,” Robin said through gritted teeth.
“What do you want with Buffy?”
“I’d prefer to tell her directly.”
“You’re driving. Pretty sure you know the way.”
Buffy and her boss sat alone in her kitchen. He stared at his hands with contrition. She hadn’t been sure what to make of Dean’s call telling her he was coming by with the most-likely-not-dangerous principal. “I wish you would have just told me this up front instead of acting like a creepy stalker.”
“In retrospect, I see how my research looked more unwanted ex and less detective dossier, but Slayers aren’t Girl Scouts.”
She watched two dozen Potentials practicing fighting forms in her backyard as she mulled over Wood’s story.
A Slayer had a child. A Slayer was a mother. Buffy firmly rejected certain Slayer traditions. Being alone. Being on the outskirts of society. But being childless always made sense. Even if she and the baby survived the pregnancy, she would never see it grow up. It would never remember her.
She didn’t want her four-year-old son at her funeral. She didn’t want him dedicating his life to avenging her. She didn’t want another Slayer down the line to look in his face and say, “I’m sorry. I can’t help you.”
Wood sighed, “Can’t say I blame you. First Evil sounds pretty demanding.”
“Keeps me on my toes.”
Spike, his hair mussed from sleep and with dark circles under his eyes, emerged from the basement. “Sorry, I’m just ‘ere for eggs,” he mumbled.
Gabi, Cloé and Vi dashed through the kitchen, giggling. Gabi assumed her instructor’s station at the front of the group outside, while the other two found places in the crowd.
“You’re late!” Dani yelled, zeroing in on Cloé while ignoring the other two.
Cloé bowed her head, her shoulders slumping as if bracing for a blow. “I’m sorry, we --”
“I don’t care! This is life and death.” The other girls stopped their exercises and stared at the scene with a mix of embarrassment and satisfaction. “Maybe I’ll start calling you Chum because you’re not going to be good for anything other than vampire bait.”
“Hey!” Gabi snapped. “I made them late. If you want to scream at someone you and I can do it later. This isn’t helping anyone.”
Dani curled her lip in disgust as she glared at Gabi. “Look, I’m in charge here--”
“No.” Gabi rose to her full height, a head taller than Dani. “Buffy is in charge. You’re not even number two. You want to take this inside or keep training?”
Looking back at the crowd of expectant girls, Dani pointed at Cloé. “Arms up, ladies! You call that a stance?”
Wood turned away from the scene, eyebrows raised. “At least I’ve solved the mystery of the flood of transfers. I’m assuming the Winchesters forged all of their paperwork?”
Andrew stomped in. “Spike, don’t forget to wash the pan when you’re done. I had to clean all of your dishes yesterday.”
Wood pointed at the two men. “Not Potentials.”
“No! This is Spike and Andrew. The First is after them, so they’ve been living in my basement.”
“Spike and Andrew.” Wood eyed Spike’s back as the former vampire plated his food. “Buffy, does this First thing have anything to do with this goat-face seal I keep finding in the basement?”
Andrew gulped. Spike turned to look at Wood, a burning intensity in his eyes.
“Who are you?” Spike asked.
“Robin Wood, principal at Sunnydale High.” Wood extended his hand, which Spike reluctantly shook.
“Wood’s mother was a Slayer.”
“Slayers have kids?” Spike looked the new guy over with renewed interest.
“One did at least. Nikki Wood. New York. 70s,” Wood said.
“Sorry, my Slayer ‘istory’s not so good,” Spike said, grabbing a fork and taking his eggs to the basement.
With a sigh, Andrew put Spike’s dirty pan in the sink. “You’ve seen the seal?”
“Yeah, someone keeps digging it up. I found a body down there once lying on top of it.”
Andrew avoided eye contact. “What did you do with it? Asking for a friend.”
“Seeing as this is Sunnydale, I buried the kid outside of town. Last time I found the seal exposed, I covered it in concrete, reburied it, piled supplies on it, and had the door welded shut.”
“Thorough,” said Buffy, relieved Lucifer wasn’t going to be able to pull any more Turok-Han from the Hellmouth. At least not soon. “You know if you want to help…”
“Much as I want to spend more time with teenagers, I think I’ll stick to searching for the vampire who killed my mom.”
“You’re certain it’s in Sunnydale?”
“Absolutely. Tell you what. I’ll lift Sam’s suspension. Not like I could have found a replacement librarian in the middle of the year anyway. What’s their deal, by the way? I couldn’t find anything on the Winchesters.”
Buffy chuckled. “The Winchesters are a different kind of wild story. If you want to know, come back and ask them yourself. After you figure out how to get on their good side.”
Spike leaned forward over the utility sink to get a closer look at himself in the mirror. He’d forgotten what he looked like. Too angular for Victorian sensibilities, but handsome for the modern day.
Hadn’t that been the entire problem? William Pratt was always too something for his neighbors, his mother, his adored. Too meek. Too earnest. Too emotional. William Pratt did not belong.
Now wasn’t much better. He wasn’t a vampire, but was he a man? He was stronger than average. A little faster.
Before Drusilla had turned him, he’d written longhand ledgers, a human calculator. What was he supposed to do now? Wash sheets at the Motor Inn, saving to get a crumby apartment? Worry about his cholesterol and toenail fungus? Not think about the murders he’d gladly committed?
No, whatever was in the mirror wasn’t a man.
“What are you doing?” Andrew asked.
His voice startled Spike, who’d been so absorbed in his reflection, he hadn’t noticed the arrival of his roommate. “I was just marveling at wot a ‘andsome devil I am. Cheekbones.”
“Some guys have it all,” Andrew said with a sigh as he settled onto his cot.
“Is that guy gone? Big black fellow?”
“Yeah, he left a while ago. Didn’t seem too happy.”
“Right, well, I guess I’ll see to that...thing that needs seeing,” Spike said, heading upstairs.
Buffy stood on the back porch, overseeing Dani and Gabi leading the Potentials in a series of martial arts exercises. Spike didn’t know much of trained fighting. Seemed to take the fun out of it, especially when it came to fighting a disciplined, organized, knowledgeable Slayer, the ultimate test of improvisation.
He decided to leave out the front door, but Sam and Dean were in the driveway repairing the Impala. Spike hadn’t seen the car after Buffy wrecked it, but from the stories, he was surprised it wasn’t in a junkyard.
“Hey, Spike,” Sam called, waving him over.
Dean rose from where he’d been crouched by the front fender. “Hit it, Sammy.”
Sam flipped the knob to check one turn signal then the other. Dean gave a thumbs up before disappearing in front of the car again.
“How’re you doing?” Sam asked.
At one point in the underground church, Sam had lost hope and began to confess his darkest deeds. He’d hunted down a demon named Lilith. “I wanted revenge because she’d killed Dean, but Dean was back, so it was really about me, wasn’t it? My power. My abilities. Me saving the day.”
“Did you kill the bitch?”
Sam had chuckled, a thin wheeze, at the question. “You know what I had to do to get strong enough to kill Lilith? I killed and drank a demon possessed pediatric nurse. I drank until she turned ashen. I drank until my stomach strained, and I told myself, ‘Greater good, right?’”
“You’re making me hungry.”
“Wanna know the irony? Me killing Lilith, that’s what unleashed Lucifer.”
And now Sam, far from the brink of death, sat in his brother’s car testing turn signals. A not-so-innocent human with demon-blood tainted veins.
Spike opened the back door and slipped into the back seat. He almost missed the blood lust. His demon had guided him, amping up his every dark impulse for over a century. Without it, he had all of the baggage of someone he knew and no idea where he was going. But he didn’t want to go back. “I feel like I just woke up from a coma, but it’s ‘alloween and I’m in a blimey gorilla costume.”
Sam squinted at him, confused. “That doesn’t make sense.”
“Metaphor needs work. Point is, I feel a little out of sorts with just myself rattling around up there.”
“It’ll take some getting used to.”
“Does anyone ever get used to humanity?” Spike asked, twisting his lips in a smirk to cover his sincerity.
“No,” said Sam quietly. “Some voices and faces always haunt you.”
“Like the nurse?”
Sam looked away in shame. They may both be killers, but only one of them had ever been proud of it. “Her husband never even knew what happened.”
“But sorry doesn’t change the past, no matter ‘ow many lives we get, does it?”
“No.”
“But life is just living, isn’t it?” Spike said. “The pain, the sex, the shame, the victories, they’re all part of the package.”
Finished with training, the Potentials began to flood the front yard, doing cartwheels and chasing each other. Enjoying the last bit of sun before nightfall forced them inside.
Giant grin plastered on his face, Dean sauntered around the car. “Baby’s ready to roll, Sammy.” His grin faded a bit when he saw Spike. “Dude, you’re practically glowing. It’s like you haven’t seen the sun in a century.”
Spike sighed. “Look out, George Carlin. A new wit has arrived.”
Dean shrugged. “We hid the beer in the cooler if you want one.” He left them to pick up his tools.
Sam smiled, soft and concerned, at Spike. “One day at a time. It’s going to be hard and weird, but I’m here for you. Call me if you feel like doing anything stupid.”
Spike was about to do something stupid. He paced in the pool of a street light in front of the little green bungalow. He wished he had a cigarette, but trying to smoke made him cough, his lungs burn. After sunset, he’d had a beer or three to convince himself his idea wasn’t suicidal.
What he did know with certainty: William Pratt would not have come. William Pratt would have wrung his hands, written at length, then waited in hiding until his mother handled the problem.
Damning evidence in hand, Spike would confront this head on.
He knocked on the door. Robin Wood answered immediately as if he’d been waiting on Spike to call. “I heard about your mum, and I, uh, I have information about her.”
Wood nodded slowly. “Meet me in the back, okay?”
New York in the 1970s had stunk of piss and cheap cigarettes. Between horny business men looking for fun in Times Square and a flood of punks wandering in and out of clubs, it was an easy meal. Not even having a Slayer in town did much to stem the tide of deaths.
Behind Wood’s house stood a dark garage with the door ajar. Spike peeked inside. “‘ello?”
It hadn’t taken Spike long to hunt down New York’s Slayer. Tall and lithe, Nikki moved with the grace and force of a prize fighter, exposing bone with her fists, sending teeth flying into the night. Spike watched her as she killed standard vampires without breaking a sweat. Once she tangled with two members of the Sisterhood of Jhe, throwing one into the other, impaling them at the same time when they were trapped in a dumpster. He was going to enjoy dancing with her.
A sting in his neck. Spike spun on his heels and knocked a shadow back against the garage door frame. Feeling woozy, he raised his fists.
Spike and Nikki had fought in the park a week before, a congenial how-do-you-do sort of fight. When he caught her in the subway, empty but for a few late-night party kids puking their guts out, he knew she was tired and ready to fold. With a smile on his face, he’d snapped her neck.
The door slid closed. Wood chuckled, “Feeling a little sick? My own mix. A little sedative and a little holy water.” The light blazed on, highlighting the cross-covered walls.
Wood, slipping on a pair of brass knuckles, stood between Spike and the door. “Oh, did you think I didn’t know you, Spike? British punk trash. About a hundred and forty. Lately, spotted with the Slayer. Strange since he killed two, including my mother.”
Spike dodged a punch. He may not be a vampire anymore, but he was still oddly quick. “What’s the plan then? Kill me and mummy comes back to you?”
They circled each other. A jab. A weave. The formerly cool principal was practically rippling with rage.
Wood lunged. Spike grabbed his arm and swung him into a table, knocking the air from him.
“She didn’t say anything when I killed her. No begging. No pleading. No final thoughts of you.”
“She died a hero, unlike you,” Wood growled.
“Maybe we died the same,” Spike said, ignoring the threat in Wood’s voice. “Alone, in the dark, running away from people who cared about us. Is that what bothers you most? Mummy’s good and dead because she kept picking us over you.”
Wood shouted, picked up a set of throwing knives, and began to use him for target practice. Thunk! The first blade hit the wall close to Spike’s head.
Thunk!
The sedative was pulling Spike down, his limbs rubber, his vision blurry. He twisted trying to dodge the knives, but one grazed his side, another cut into his arm.
Thunk! Thunk!
Once the knives were all stuck in the wall behind him, Spike dove at the principal’s legs. They rolled on the ground, trading punches. Spike jabbed Wood with his elbow and landed a cracking blow to his ribs.
“Show me your real face!” Wood screamed, rolling on top of Spike, hitting him over and over. Spike could feel his flesh tearing, the blood spilling out as vengeance pummeled his face and body.
Using every bit of strength the drugs had left him, Spike pushed Wood off and grabbed a cross from the wall.
Nothing happened.
Wood stared, dumbfounded. “But the Watcher’s diaries --”
“Were right,” Spike said, pointing to a plastic grocery bag he’d dropped by the door. “I killed your mum. Came here to apologize. But then you were a twat so I didn’t.”
Holding his breath and with his eyes still on Spike, Wood knelt down to open the bag. Inside was a long leather coat. His mother’s coat.
The garage door slid open. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!” yelled Buffy.
The principal, bleeding from a cut above his eye, rose and glared at Buffy. “This doesn’t involve you, Slayer.”
“You beat up one of my friends, you bet it involves me,” she said through gritted teeth.
Wood snorted, eyeing Spike with disgust as he slowly found his footing. “Friend? Do you even know what he is?”
“The vampire part or the killed your mom part? Yeah, I figured it out.”
Eyeing Spike with a little more curiosity than loathing, Wood asked, “Is he a vampire?”
“Was,” Spike said, trying and failing to stand. “You missed filling your life-long vengeance quest by about two days.”
“There’s -- there’s a cure?” Wood asked quietly.
“Only for very good boys.” Spike spit blood and grinned.
“Are you listening? Because I want to know if you can follow the simplest of instructions.” Buffy asked, her arms crossed and eyes blazing with fury. “ But here’s the thing, Robin, even if Spike were still a monster, he’d still be more of a man than you.”
Wood’s jaw flexed, his eyes dark and cold. “You don’t--”
“Did I say you could talk? If you come around me and mine again, I recommend crawling on your hands and knees.” Buffy helped Spike up and lead him outside.
“What were you thinking coming here?” she asked, shifting to support more of his weight.
The cold air sucked at the sweat and blood coating Spike’s skin sending a quick shiver through him. “You really think I’m a man now?”
“Well, Jeffrey Dahmer was a man, so the bar is low.” Buffy stopped and gazed at him. The moonlight glistened in her eyes as she gently touched the bruises on his face. “Do you think you’re not?”
“Thought making amends would be a good first step.” He held his breath while he took in the angles of her nose, her large sad eyes, the fluttering kiss of her fingers.
“You tried to kill me,” she said softly. “Then you helped me save the world. And now look at you with your soul without your demon. You’ve survived more and grown more than most men could dream.”
She shook her head sharply, the trance broken, and continued walking him down the block. “We need to get you patched up. Infections are totally a thing.”
He still craved her touch. “‘ow’d you know where I was?”
“Sam thought you were acting weird. I followed you.”
Spike hoped they weren’t walking far. As the fight drained out of him, the pain grew, his head throbbing, knuckles aching, one ankle sharp. “What do you think’s out there for an ex-vampire? Side show freakery?”
“You know what I want for you?” she asked. “I want you to find someone who could just know William Pratt, the man who has sacrificed himself for love over and over. Sometimes stupidly. Sometimes selfishly. Often perfectly.”
“You a fan of Pratt, then?”
Buffy shook her head. “Not for me, William. Be that man for her, whoever she is.”
With the stomach-churning taste of blood on his tongue, he chuckled. “You think love is in the cards for me?”
She half-smiled. “You’ve been a vampire, captured by the government, and been to Hell. I think you’re due for something good.”
They turned the corner where Dean was waiting in the freshly repaired Impala. Spike sighed but said nothing.
Buffy still picked up on his let-down. “You smell like a vampire Happy Meal. Probably better we don’t walk through town. You can crash at Dean’s. We don’t need the the girls knowing their principal beat up Crazy Basement Guy.”
“Is that what they call me?”
“Also Mystery Guy and Andrew’s Roommate.”
Spike slapped his hand over his heart in mock horror and climbed in the backseat of the Impala.

12x17: The British Invasion
Aubrey’s Challenge: Write a fic about each episode in season 12.
Word Count: 1958
Version en Español -- PREVIOUS EPISODE
Waking up in the backseat of the Impala was almost as normal to you as waking up in a hotel bed in Nowhere, Nebraska. But waking up to the voice of one of your newest friends wasn’t usual. All of your post-nap grumpiness vanished and you popped up, looking over the set at the screen where Eileen was talking to the boys on Skype.
“Eileen!” You immediately started signing to her to keep the boys out of the conversation. ‘I’ve missed you! These guys get annoying real quick.’
She laughed, making Dean give you a dirty look. He hated being left out of the conversation, but you loved annoying him. It wasn’t exactly ideal. Whatever.
‘It must be so annoying to have Dean hanging off your every word like a love sick puppy.’ She added a wink and you grinned even as a blush covered your cheeks.
‘It’s just the worst’ you signed, making sure to infuse as much sarcasm into the movements as possible. Sam could pick up a few signs here and there, and he shot you a confused look. You wondered what he thought he read, but quickly dismissed the thought and leaned forward to press a kiss to Dean’s cheek. ‘But somehow I manage. But I was mostly talking about how annoying it is to hear Sam talk about you all day long. Eileen this and Eileen that. You really just should come on the road with us. Save me the trouble of assuring him that you’re fine.’
This time it was Eileen who was blushing. You saw her eyes dart over to where you assumed Sam was on her screen and your grin grew bigger.
“What are you two talking about?” Sam asked with narrow eyes. He’d probably managed to pick up that the conversation had moved over to him.
“Nothing,” both of you said at the same time, trying to play innocent. Both Winchesters looked between Eileen on the screen and you in the backseat, but neither of you broke. Girl code and all that.
“Anyway, continue your conversation from before I cut in. Sam and Dean can fill me in later.”
You sat back in your seat and tried to piece together what you missed from the rest of the conversation. Apparently Kelly was with Daegon. Lovely. It was on your bucket list to kill a Prince of Hell.
“Bye Sam,” Eileen waved with a smile and you had to bite your lip to stop your teasing comment. Then Sam bid her farewell, looking a tiny bit flustered and you knew that you couldn’t hold it in much longer.
Luckily Dean beat you to the punch and opened that door wide open for you. “Well, that’s cute.”
“C’mon,” Sam muttered, pointedly looking out the window.
You slid forward on the seat and over until you were behind Dean. With your hands on his shoulders, you leaned forward and rested your head next to his. “Baby, aren’t they just so cute together? I think we should all go on a double date sometime.”
“Y/N, seriously?” Sam glanced over at you and, much to your enjoyment, you saw a stain of blush on his cheeks.
“Fine. I’ll stop for now.” Sliding across the old leather, you positioned yourself behind the youngest Winchester. “I’m only pushing because I love you and I love her and you two are just so adorable.”
“I don’t need a matchmaker,” Sam grumbled, sliding down in his seat and looking out the window again.
“What you need is a haircut,” Dean interjected, making Sam groan and look even more pointedly out the window, like a rebellious teenager.
“Eileen likes his hair,” you sang, enjoying the blush that you saw creeping from his cheeks to his neck. “Anyway. Fill me in. What did she have to say about Kelly?”
*****
You woke up before Dean, which wasn’t surprising given how much he drank last night. But you’d also woken up before Sam, which was surprising. Usually he was up before everyone, eating his rabbit food, as Dean liked to call it, and going for a run or exercising somehow.
With the whole bunker to yourself, you found yourself at the shooting range. Sure, you had a horrible hangover, and sure the noise was sure to make it worse, but you were a hunter and you needed to be sharp no matter how you were feeling.
After fifteen minutes, you were so in the zone that you’d completely forgotten about your hangover. Man, guns were sure one hell of a hangover cure. You’d have to remember that for next time.
“I wondered who was making so much noise down here,” a British voice sounded from behind you and you whirled around, aiming the loaded gun at the noise. Mick put his hands up and raised his eyebrows.
“Sorry,” you mumbled, lowering the barrel. “I forgot you were here.”
“Mind if I…” he motioned towards your cache of weapons and you waved him forwards. Watching him with a calculating eye, you analyzed his every movement. What was it about these Brits that made them so confident that they were better than you Americans? He loosed five bullet in quick succession. All five were clustered right near the heart of the dummy.
That’s when you understood. “You’re so textbook.”
“Excuse me?”
“Your posture, your grouping, your gun choice. It’s all textbook. But, honey, books don’t help you when you’re in the field.”
“What are you talking about?”
“What if you needed that vic alive?”
“Alive? We kill monsters, Y/N.”
“Textbook.” The difference between your two cultures was staggering. “We don’t just kill monsters. We save people. And what if that monster that you just killed was the only thing that knew where it was hiding the human victims that you were looking for? I mean, you do want to save them, don’t you?”
Mick looked affronted. “Of course I do!”
“But it’s not your first thought. Like with that werewolf girl. You saw the werewolf. We saw the girl.”
“I saw the people that the werewolf would have killed before we got to her! I saved those people!”
“And I saw a teenage girl that I could have saved if you gave me the chance. I saw a scared little girl who had the free will choose a better life. A girl who could learn to live with her new condition. A girl who could choose. But you took that away from her. You took a child away from her mother. You didn’t just kill a werewolf that day, Mick. You killed a girl with a future and you killed her mother. She might still be breathing, but she’s not living anymore. Not without her kids.”
You tossed your gun on the counter and strode out of the room, hoping that one of the boys would be awake. After your heavy conversation with Mick, you needed something lighter.
And, luckily for you, both of them were in the kitchen.
“—but he’s got, like, the Can-Drink gold medal,” Dean’s voice was lower than usual, making you smile. He was so hungover.
“Morning, you two,” you sang-song softly when you walked in and took a seat next to Dean. You rubbed your hands along his stubble as you pulled him in for a good morning kiss. He leaned into the kiss and a low, slightly possessive growl rumbled from his throat. As your lips curved into a smile against his, the familiar reservoir of pastel emotions bubbled over in your heart. God, how you loved this man.
“Best hangover cure ever,” Dean stated.
You slid your eyes towards Sam. “You know, if you helped me convince Eileen to stick around, you could have one of these hangover cure kisses too.”
“Drop it,” Sam mumbled. “Anyway. Dean, have you talked to mom lately?”
“Ah, you shouldn’t worry about your mum,” Mick announced his presence by interrupting the conversation. How very British Men Of Letters of him. “Her and Ketch make quite the team.”
Since you weren’t quite ready to face Ketch yet, you grabbed Dean’s cup and took a drink of his coffee. Mick told the three of you some of his tragic backstory, but you weren’t moved. A crappy life in no way made up for the way he was living his life now.
*****
The blond Brit fell to the ground and you didn’t dare breathe.
“I didn’t—I didn’t mean to,” Eileen said, a tremor in her voice. “I was shooting at the demon.”
Sam grabbed at Eileen’s shoulder to reassure her. “It was an accident.”
Then Mick stood up and reluctantly pulled out his gun, aiming at your friend.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!” Dean moved in front of Eileen, blocking Mick’s shot. “What are you doing?”
“She killed a Man of Letters. S-Sh-She has to die!”
“It was an accident!” Sam argued.
“It doesn’t matter! The Code—“
“No, hey, screw the code.” Dean didn’t take his eyes off of Mick. None of you could.
Mick looked from Eileen to Dean. “Don’t make this any harder than it already is.”
“Mick, you don’t have to do this.” A new resolution found its way to Dean’s voice as he aimed his gun at Mick. He would shoot. You knew it.
“Textbook, Mick,” you whispered, scared out of your mind for Eileen. “Just because it’s your first thought, doesn’t mean you have to act on it.” His eyes slid to you and you took a hesitant step forward. You were getting to him, but he wasn’t quite there yet. So you had to keep pushing. “It’s still your choice. Are you going to shoot to kill, shoot to wound, or… or not shoot at all?”
No one moved. No one dared to breathe. Mick’s options hung in the air between all of you, and now you waited.
As soon as his hand faltered and he started lowering his gun, you let out a long sigh of relief.
“Just go.”
And no one bothered to argue. Cautiously, the four of you got in the Impala and drove off. For the first few miles, it was silence in the car. Then Dean looked at you in the rearview mirror.
“What was that about back there? With Mick?”
“That morning with the hangovers, Mick found me in the shooting range. I kinda laid into him about the werewolf girl.” Since it was dark, you found yourself signing Pidgin ASL so that Eileen wouldn’t miss out on anything in the dark. “At least I know he was listening.”
*****
“Hey,” Sam said softly, touching Eileen on the shoulder so she would turn to him. “It was a mistake.”
You and Dean watched as Eileen stepped into his arms and hugged him tightly. It had been an emotional day, and you weren’t even tempted to use that hug as future ammo in your fight to get Sam and Eileen together. Some things should be left alone.
Dean tapped on your arm and jerked his head toward the bedrooms. You nodded, but not before signing good night to Eileen. She just smiled and nodded at you. Then you followed Dean out, burrowing under his arm for the physical contact that you craved after a night like tonight.
“Those British Men of Letters are sure messed up,” Dean muttered into the silent bunker. “And that’s coming from me.”
“We’re all screwed up in our own ways,” you agreed, closing the bedroom door behind you. Then you stepped in front of Dean and wound your arms around his neck. “But I’m glad we’re messed up like we are. Because even as messed up as you are, I love you and I wouldn’t want you any other way.”
“Back at ya, sweetheart.”

Hiding in the shadow of love
Supernatural 12x15, “Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell.”
Hmmmmmm. <-- that is my dubious hmmmm, in case you were wondering.
You see, the cynic in me says that it’s obviously that time in the season -- time to ramp up the annual Destiel/Drowley/Wincest queerbaiting. Because no matter which way I read this episode, it’s all about thwarted male love.
On the other hand, the slightly-less-cynical-and-a-lot-more-queer me thinks this is delicious. ;)
youtube
Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, by Kiss
So. Kiss. It seems an unlikely source for the title of this episode, right? Yeah, that was my thinking too. Buuuuuuuut....
Let’s be real, if there’s ever been a character dying to have the stuffing kissed out of him in the most romantic way possible by a heartbreaker with a lock on Heaven’s door, it’s Dean Winchester. I mean... Once you think about it, the song just becomes more and more plausible. Just listen to those lyrics. “I’m so hungry.” Remind you of anyone?
*squints at the subtext like Castiel at Kelvin*
Okay, okay. I’m willing to concede the fact Kiss have a song with exactly this title, and not much else does according to Google, could be a coincidence given Supernatural does actually have actual Heaven and Hell in the show. Maybe the title of the episode is more directly related to show content and less metatextual.
Let’s go with that reading. In this more literal case, what exactly is between Heaven and Hell? We’ve been given two answers to this in canon so far:
Purgatory (ie. season 8, the most romantically queer-coded season of all), or
Earth (ie. Dean/Humanity, who certain people are “loaded pause” in love with).
Are you starting to get the picture yet? Is it rubbing off all over you??????
*makes the Drowley face*
And then there’s that. Drowley. We have Crowley turning up while on the phone to Dean, exactly as Castiel did back in My Bloody Valentine. We have Crowley and Dean flirting, and Crowley slathering on the innuendo so thick Dean will need yet another shower after that little exercise in Liam Neesoning it up.
Like, is there any doubt in anyone’s mind at this point that this is innuendo? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
*crickets*
Right. Where was I? Oh, yeah, the non-Kiss reading of the title. Didn’t get us very far away from the queer subtext right? In fact, I think it might be worse than the Kiss reading in that regard. Who knew that was even possible? They’re called Kiss! It’s right there in the band name!
Let’s go with the Incidental music next. While Castiel is being seduced by his very own Ketch, in obvious contrast to what went down with Dean last week, we have Ballad of a Truck Driver’s Wife playing in the background. I can’t find the full version by Lorene Mercer, but you can find a snippet of it here. Suggestive, yes? “When I need you so, that’s when you have to go. That’s how it is when you’re married to a truck driver man. Here today and gone tomorrow...” Not exactly subtle, in terms of the parallels to what’s happening in this episode. I mean we joke a lot about Dean and Castiel being an old married couple, but here the subtext is, basically saying exactly that.
I mean... casual watchers probably don’t catch the background music? Don’t remember the Kiss song? Didn’t notice season 8′s trope-fest? Assume Crowley is a queer villian who is just joking about wanting to rub off on Dean????
I guess.
Anyway, I was really interested in this plot point for Castiel for several reasons. Firstly, Kelvin has much better bait than Ketch did, and is much more successful at luring Castiel into at least listening to the full pitch from Joshua. I’m just as hooked as Cas and want to know more, especially the catch. Secondly, this sets Castiel up perfectly to have to make a deliberate choice about which family he belongs to, without being coerced, or the decision made for him. This is something I want to see very much, so I’m super keen to see how this plays out. Third, there’s so much emphasis on the murder of the nephilim now, that I’m increaasingly convinced it’s going to live, and we’re heading into season 13 with Three Male-Shaped People and a Little Nephilim as the main story arc.
A girl can dream.
*Imagines Dean, Castiel and either Crowley or Sam co-parenting the little tyke, who probably grows into a teenager in about three episodes and then wafts around exuding angst*
I want that sooooo much, you don’t even know. It would be the perfect way to continue to the nature vs nurture theme too. Also, with Mary back in the text, and Dean and Sam’s relationship shifting away from parent/child, the very obvious next life goal is raising the next generation. Will the sins of the fathers be visited on the children and all that. It could be so good. But I digress.
What am I even up to with this review? Ah, I know. The reading in which the title is actually about Sam. Because you see, Sam has never really wanted to be a hunter, he’s just wanted his family, and he’s always seen family and hunting as synonymous. He’s stuck between Heaven (his love for his family) and Hell (hunting), and lying about it. Enter our rescuee of the week -- Gwen -- and her speech to Sam about how lying to someone about not wanting the same things they want ends badly.
It’s a pretty pointed speech, and Sam does take the point, coming clean to Dean about the BMOL giving him info on hunts. But that is just scratching the surface, and there’s still so much more he needs to say that he’s still not saying.
And here we come to another favourite part of the episode. Dean is becoming more and more impatient with lies of all kinds. Including, one assumes, lies about what people want.
Dean is so deeply not okay about Sam’s choices, but trying to respect them. I’m actually loving how done Dean is with lies. That’s a genuinely interesting development and I want to see more of it.
Which leads me into my big question for this ep -- How is this going to resolve in a new way? I don’t want it to fall back into the rut of Sam and Dean just being on the outs, or of both brothers silently suffering to maintain the relationship. So how do they find a way to remain family and still both get the things they need?
The one way I can see this working at the moment, is for Sam to come clean about not wanting to hunt, and then basically become the US Men of Letters, assuming Bobby’s old job, and doing the research and that kind of thing, and Dean continuing to hunt with a new partner. I’d actually really like to see something like that -- to see hunting becoming more organised and safer, while not adopting the genocidal agenda of the BMOL, or the sexism of the original US MOL.
Okay, it’s ridiculous o’clock in the morning, so I’m going to wrap this up. I think I’ve talked about all the main things I reacted to. Oh, except that as I was looking around for potential sources for the episode title, I found this gem:
youtube
Between Heaven and Hell (1956)
This is actually a pretty good movie, but it doesn’t exactly decrease the queer reading of this episode. At all. Hahahaha.
(If you’re wondering, you can find the whole movie here.)
Overall, I liked this episode a lot, despite some clunky moments. But I really was serious at the start of this review, about the cynic in me looking at this ramp-up of the queer subtext with some suspicion. It always seems to ramp up at around this time in the season, and they never pay it off. I want to be pleasantly surprised with some overtly textual Destiel to wrap up this season, because it really is so close to maintext now it’s kind of hilarious.
I’m just tired of being yanked around. Give it to me or don’t. Sure, I love subtext as much as the next person, but I’m getting old here, dudes. And so are Cas and Dean. Just cross the rubicon already, and show us what kind of delicious drama is on the other side.
Hint: Three Male-Shaped People and a Little Nephilim.
I’ll just leave that suggestion there for you, Mr Dabb.

Thoughts about Spn 12x16
SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!
There is no transcript of the episode online yet, so I have to do this out of my memory, which means I forgot probably half the stuff I wanted to write about. Bear with me.
So, this episode. Alternative title: Lying liars who lie. Like, we get it. This season is all about lies and the damage they do. And this episode wasn’t subtle about it. Hayden was lying to her brother and got killed. Claire lied to Jody and almost died. Mick lied to Sam & Dean and got a death threat. So yeah, lying is never good and sometimes it gets you killed or at least puts you in danger. Telling the truth is what can save you or at least redeem you. And right now Dean is the only one able to see through all the lies. He knew something was off with his mother. 12x15 implies he knew Sam wasn’t honest to him as well. He noticed that Cas is hiding something. And now he instantely knew that Mick was lying (though it gave us a TGBBO reference, which by now will always be my favourite pop culture reference in the show). At least now though Dean wasn’t as isolated as in previous episodes; he and Sam were always on the same side, especially after learning what Mick did.
Speaking of.
Mick
From the two BMoL we met so far, Mick Davies and Arthur Ketch, Mick seems to be the more likeable one, and the one who could actually redeem himself and become a part of Team Winchester. 12x14 gave his character already more depth and a glimpse of the real world and what it actually means to hunt. I’m not surprised that he is now willing to learn more, to get involved and to prepare himself. As cool as the Hogwarts for the BMoL sounds (and how much do you bet Sam wants to go there?), Dean is right, you can’t learn hunting with books alone. The reason Sam and Dean are as good as they are at their jobs is their experience. Of course Sam is right as well, the lore & knowledge the MoL possess is a great help for them. Without it they wouldn’t have been able to cure Claire. Speaking of, the cure of course reminded me of the vampire cure, which makes me more convinced than ever that the Campells used to work together with the MoL before they were going extinct. Anyway, point is, you need both, the knowledge & the experience. And I think that is the problem, the dividing of both. The brains and the brawn. Because it only results in MoL getting killed and making the wrong moral choices, because to them monsters are an abstract concept, whereas Sam and Dean learned the hard way that there is more than dividing the world in black & white, good & evil. And hunters get killed too, because they don’t have the knowledge they need in order to do their jobs. I don’t expect the BMoL to be destroyed by the end of the season but therefore rather getting reformed, with Sam maybe in the lead.
So Mick now learns about the reality of hunting. About what it means to kill a young girl, to hear her mother crying in despair. And that instead of following a code, there is a choice. A choice for the hunters to make. A choice for the victims to decide for their lives. And sure Dean was only trying to protect Claire when he said she had no vow, but thank God Sam stepped in. Claire’s body, Claire’s life, Claire’s choice (and given the time, I think this was meant as a political message as well). So if they do reform the MoL, I can see someone like Mick maybe researching more stuff like the cure for werewolves, focusing on the saving people part, not hunting/killing.
Anyway, Dean teling Mick that things are not always black & white was perhaps the best scene. Because he came so far: s1 Dean was actually a lot like Mick here. Monsters needed to be killed, no matter what. Instead of a code he followed his father’s orders. Dean learned (the hard way) to think for himself. Maybe Mick will learn it as well. Also, when Mick critized Dean of working together with witches & demons he didn’t mention Cas, but he might as well could have done so, given Dean’s angry answer. Because he knows they won’t draw the line there. If they mean all monsters, they mean Cas as well.
Speaking of monster genoicide: I expected Sam’s “not all werwolves are bad” speech already when he learned they almost killed all vampires. Better late than never though. But why did they mentioned Garth though? Dabb & Singer teased that something in this episode would become relevant again in s13, so now I think they either find out the BMoL killed Garth, or Garth gets cured. I hope for the latter.
Also, killing all werewolves might have indirect resulted in this week’s case. The bartender werewolf mentioned his pack was killed, even though they didn’t hurt no one. All he wanted was another pack. I mean he still killed Hayden’s brother (to feed his heart to her?), so yeah, cool motive, still murder. The thing is, the MoL’s actions have consequences. They started a war and these are the results.
Also, adding to the Mick-Cas-parallels: Dean calls Sam and Mick nerd best friends; so just as Cas Mick now has a Winchester as a best friend. And well, Cas started out with questionable moral choices too, but learned to do the right thing thanks to Dean. So Sam could be Mick’s guide, the way Dean was to Cas.
Claire
I love her. Protect her. Especially from skeevy old guys who are into teenage girls. That guy might have not been a werewolve, but he was a bad guy all along. And thank you Dean for threating him.
Claire still hasn’t found her place in this world it seems. She wants to hunt, but the question is why she is doing it. She admitted that most days she can barely keep it together (I bet Dean can relate), so really to me it feels like she is running away. From her family, from her past, who knows. Being all alone, living in her car, putting herself in danger, it’s no life. And we can’t compare it with Sam & Dean, because for once they were never alone, and second they never had a chance at a normal life, unlike Claire.
In the end at least a part of her arc seems to be resolved by now. She calls Jody, she tells her the truth (always a good thing), more so she calls Jody her mom and tells her she loves her (and Alex). Does that remind you of anyone? Claire has accepted her found family and expressed her love and gratitude for them, the way Cas did in 12x12. They are both not ready to return home yet. They both have unfinished business. But they will, eventually.
Speaking of Cas, why wasn’t he mentioned? Claire almost died. I’m not sure he could have healed her anyway, but this was about their relationship. Claire mentioned calling Jody (to say goodbye?) but not Cas. Neither did Sam or Dean. Which I think was odd. Sure Jody (and Alex) are closer to her now, but still.
Some other things:
- Did I spot a Batgirl comic in Claire’s car?
- Dean & the fancy hotel gave me life. *imagine a long and detailed meta about Winchesters and social class here* I haven’t been on my dash yet, so I hope there a million fan arts of Dean skinny dipping out there.
- Hayden was genre savvy. Still didn’t help.
I bet there are a million more things to say, but that is all I can think of by now.
Aaaaaaaaaand the promo for next week:
Just from watching the promo I knew it would be a Bucklemming episode. There are like a million characters (Dagon I think, Kelly, Eileen, Lucifer, Crowley etc), Mary has sex (with Ketch? *shudders*) and I seriously hope Mick doesn’t forget all the character development he had this episode and kills someone. Also is it possible the old man is a woman instead? Not really looking forward to this one.

I don't think Toni saying Ketch is a psychopath really holds water though because she seemed like a psychopath herself. Unbalanced at the very least. What evidence do we really have that he's a psychopath? Honestly, he seems like one of those secret agent guys who just does his job and doesn't question orders. I'm not sure that makes him a psychopath. I know this is probably a minority opinion but I'm just not seeing it.
Wow okay. I read this and felt a chill run down my spine. You... really don’t see it? I’m actually... kinda speechless and terrorstruck. I actually have no idea how to respond to this.
You... it’s not horrifyingly obvious to you?
I don’t mean to sound obnoxious here, I’m literally just
stunned
and legit kind of scared
and really, truly do not know how to respond to this.
Really? Nothing about him pings every alarm bell in your head that something is just not right with this one?
Even if Toni had never said one word about him, haven’t his actions throughout the entire season demonstrated that he is emotionless?
He referred to murdering a teenage girl as “Cleaning up the Winchester’s mess.”
The fact that Cas was wary of him in 12.08, and couldn’t detect a lie, but still felt something was “off.”
The fact that Sam and Dean didn’t kill anyone in 12.09, Ketch thought of it as “unprofessional.” And then went back and killed all those innocent men for doing their jobs. Because that was “professional.” >.>
The fact that Dean has been intensely wary of him... because Dean’s “instincts” about people are almost always correct. He’s empathic to a ridiculous degree, and we’ve learned to trust Dean’s instinct about people because of it.
His “apology” to Mary in 12.12:
MARY: You sent me after a damn Prince of Hell. KETCH: Well, we didn’t know what he was. We just knew he had the item. MARY: That’s not good enough. I lost a friend. I almost lost one of my boys. KETCH: And we apologize-- MARY: Shut up. Anything like that happens again-- anything-- and I will burn you down. All of you. KETCH: Is that a threat? MARY: It’s a promise. KETCH: We made a mistake. I’m sorry.
Was perfunctory and insincere. It looked like it physically pained him to squeeze out an “I’m sorry.”
In 12.13:
"You're different when you talk to them. Softer. Weaker. Not an insult, just an observation. But when you hunt, Mary... you're one of the best I've ever seen. Now you might play at being the good mummy, but when you're in the thick of it, nothing but a blade in your hand and blood in the air, that's the real you, the best you."
This... is this opinion of a psychopath. Is there another way to interpret this? He thinks Mary is just like him. That attachments to people make you weaker.
In 12.14, the way he treated that vampire was appalling. When Dean offered some objection to his intensely objectionable treatment of her, he was like, “Oh, I’m sorry, did you want to get a few punches in too? Dear me, where are my manners.”
Ketch: Dean, I don't give a toss if you sign up. Honestly, I don't care if you live or die. But since we're such jolly good pals now – Dean; Jolly good, huh? Ketch: Let me just say that the Men of Letters is an excellent fit for someone with our inclinations.Dean: "Our"? As in you and me? Ketch: You're a killer, Dean Winchester, and so am I. And if we go too long without something to track or trap or punch or gut, well, things get a bit ugly. Don't they? The Men of Letters keep me busy. They point me in a direction and bang. Off to the races. It's not a bad life.
Like the MoL provide him a “socially acceptable” outlet for his natural inclinations. He is A Killer. That’s not just something he does, or something that’s a job, or the orders he receives and carries out because of loyalty to the organization or the Code. It’s WHO HE IS.
And now in 12.17, he said something to Mary, when she wrongly interpreted this line: (and heck she took off her chain with her wedding ring for that scene)
Mr. Ketch: Well, that was unexpected. But invigorating. I must say, when I first met you I didn't see this coming. My thought at the time was, 'I'll end up shooting this one.' Life is full of surprises.
As thinking he was developing some sort of “feelings” for her... When he literally STILL thinks he’s going to end up shooting her... especially now that he just casually added her to his hit list of American Hunters without so much as blinking...
HE WAS GENUINELY CONFUSED WHEN SHE ASKED HIM IF HE WAS READING ANYTHING INTO THEIR ENCOUNTER. Um... GENUINELY CONFUSED.
KETCH: You really needn’t worry. Truth is, I’m not... built for that. And I suspect you aren’t either?
Mary replies that he’s wrong. BECAUSE SHE’S NOT AN UNFEELING PSYCHOPATH, LIKE KETCH IS.
Like Sam, though, she just... really isn’t good at reading people. At least not like Dean is. Not to mention she doesn’t have all the info on him that we, the audience, do.
Because there’s “not questioning orders” and then there’s Ketch. He just... he just... I don’t even know how to explain it if you can’t see it. He just feels wrong. Like some essential part of him is just missing. Almost like soulless Sam just felt wrong.
Like, just writing this up and thinking about him makes my heart race (in a bad way) and my breath stick in my throat. And whoa I have to stop talking about him now because I can practically hear the Kill Bill Siren going off at this point, and I need to think about something pleasant for a bit.
#spn 12.17#mr ketch#i'm sorry anon i sincerely did not intend this to be wanky or dismissive at all#i just have such a visceral WRONGWRONGWRONG reaction to the guy#i guess i'm having a hard time even imagining someone NOT being able to see it#Anonymous
