the kid alastor au is so sad but so funny at the same time. like its sad because he never got to grow up properly and had to mature and a very young age, but also. imagine youre an overlord who managed to get on alastors bad side without realizing it and then the last thing you see is some ten year old boy with fluffy deer ears torturing and killing you. me personally i would NOT take that level of disrespect. plot twist alastor actually had to get husk’s soul some other way than he does in canon because no one will let him into a casino.

also, do you think he’d get along with some of the cannibal town kids, since they’re some of the few sinner children we see in hell, or does he prefer to stick by adults who dont know his identity as the radio demon, since he’s technically fairly old? would he even BE a cannibal in this au? i doubt he ever got to murder anyone as a human before he died, but since he hangs around rosie still she might have offered him a finger or two and, uh… perhaps he was always just predestined for cannibalism even without becoming a bloodthirsty serial killer in life.

Yeah, this AU is inherently hilarious and kid-shaped Alastor is keenly aware of the absurdity of his whole... thing. But he makes it work for him, especially when he's torturing Overlords. He just loves the looks on his victims faces when he reveals himself as the Radio Demon, leaning into the whole creepy kid aesthetic as he's killing them.

The thing about Alastor is that it's very difficult to keep him out of places he wants to get into. Husk first saw Alastor when he strolled right up to the high rollers table and peeked over one of the player's shoulders to see their cards.

"Ooh, that looks like a good hand!" The shark jolted, surprised by the tiny voice chirping in his ear. The King of Hearts - everyone at the table - stared in sheer disbelief at the little schoolboy-looking brat who'd had the gall to intrude at HIS table. The kid smiled, apparently unconcerned with the numerous glares fixed on him. "What the- Who the fuck are you?" the shark growled at the kid. "Alastor! A pleasure to be meeting you, sirs. Quite a pleasure!" As he spoke, the kid wormed his way between two hulking shark-demons and sat his scrawny ass down at the table. "Would you happen to have room at your table for one more?" "Beat it, kid. We ain't playin' Go Fish," Husk snapped. "SECURITY!"

Security threw him out, but not two minutes later Alastor was back inside. No matter how many times Husk had Alastor tossed out, he'd just pop back in, as if by magic. Finally, Husk agreed to let Alastor play ONE GAME if he would just stay the hell out of his casino afterwards.

Well, you know how that went.

I won't say this version of Alastor is much nicer to Husk. But by present, Alastor does very much appreciate that Husk talks to him like any other adult. Like, they have their in jokes, the routine with the ID card and whatnot, but Husk of all people knows he isn't just some kid and doesn't pity him.

Well, Husk doesn't outwardly pity him.

And yeah, I do think Alastor has a sort of kinship with demon children. He doesn't consider himself one of them, fully, especially in the case of actual Hellborn kids who won't stay children forever. But since the Pride Ring is primarily made up of sinners, I think the small population of sinners who died as children and survived past their first extermination in hell probably have some sort of community. I'm not 100% certain about the cannibal kids, since I've heard conflicting information on whether Rosie and her people are Hellborn or not. Their entire design seems to set them apart from the rest of the sinners.

Regardless, Alastor is friends with Rosie in this AU, and he does become a cannibal through her influence. Although Rosie doesn't know he's the Radio Demon, she does suspect that he's more powerful than he lets on and treats him no different than any of her clients. Their friendship is pretty similar to canon with them exchanging information and favors over coffee and pinkie fingers. She even gives him details from the Overlords' meetings. When they're in private though, Alastor lets himself relax a bit, and allows Rosie to fuss over him. Alastor is a bit contradictory, and as much as he doesn't want people treating him like a child, he mourns the childhood that was violently ripped away from him and the mother he lost in that moment. When he and Rosie have these moments, it feels for a moment like he really is a kid again.

just want to let you know, though i absolutely adore all of the characters you write in your hazbin fics, im really liking the way you portray alastor and angel together!! theyre just such a good dynamic that i never really thought about (my favourite platonic pairing is charlie and alastor, but angel and alastor are quickly rising in the ranks)!

i especially love the little bit in kk!iywfn! where adam is pulling on alastor’s tail and it’s actually angel who yells out for him to stop touching him, and assumedly even tries to physically get in between them before being stopped. idk i just really loved that bit !! like not only does angel sadly know what its liked to be touched without consent, but he also knows how much alastor would hate that given how much angel has,,, lets say flirted, with him before. he knows more than just about anyone that being treated like some pet (or toy) would fucking suck.

anyways sorry for the rambles (its late in my time and i cant control my words well when im tired) but youre such a good author!! especially with ur character dynamics. im excited to see what else you have in store!!

AH, thank you so much! >:D I actually also adore Charlie and Alastor, and I keep rotating them in my mind after writing Knock, Knock! It's Your Worst Fucking Nightmare! (should I give my fics shorter titles? yes. will I? no.) because I think there's just so much potential for his unintentionally-starting-to-care ass to get properly fucked up by how much she genuinely cares and is willing to go out on a limb for someone she considers a friend.

As for Angel and Alastor - I'm glad that you've been enjoying them as well! I feel like Angel is one of the more empathetic characters in the show, though in a much more subtle way than Charlie, and it's really fun to play around with that. The tail-pulling scene was actually my favorite to write from that fic, and I couldn't not include what I imagine would have been a very disturbed reaction from Angel Dust. A lot of that fic was, like... yes, it was Alastor getting hurt, but it was also pretty damn traumatic for everyone else being forced to watch. Adam's end goal, after all, was to hurt Charlie.

my whump awakening was - oh boy - purposefully letting my mario kart wii character fall into the lava on the cart “grumble volcano” as a child because i liked to imagine their thoughts and reactions when they were stuck. did similar things with a handful of other video games (purposefully letting my character get hurt when i wasnt playing competitively)

What'd I'd be questioning is that WHO would be their therapist during this. Cause those kids have one thing going on after enduring that complete horror fest for what was about...2 days give or take?

Though once they meet CASEY, he literally has 16 years worth of stuff to get off his chest

But if they don’t go to a therapist, I can actually see Casey stepping up a bit amd being a mediator of sorts since he's more familiar on how to deal with traumatic events since everyone he knew and love had died in his OG timeline, he could help the turtles and April figure out how to handle their stress and fear in a more healthier way as time goes on during the aftermath/ rebuilding period of the kraang invasion.

A softer, fluffier version of it. When they were tiny, they could be sprawled out on the carpet coloring with crayons, then suddenly Charlie would pop up and say, 'I crave violence.' Then she'd grab a pillow and sock Alastor with it. Or pounce on him and start tickling. Alastor would rarely initiate play fights, but he'd usually be the one to escalate things though. I picture him as a... bitey kid.

When Charlie told Vaggie about this, Vaggie immediately started cracking jokes about Alastor needing a rabies shot.

sorry if this is a weird question or something you dont rlly want to talk about on a fandom blog, but i noticed youre in medschool! im a college undergrad freshman whos trying to get into medschool, and i was wondering if you had any tips on getting into medschools while still being an active member of fandom spaces?

No worries, I actually get asks about med school not-uncommonly! I'm happy to chat about whatever!

Honestly, I think that depends on what 'active' means for you and what issues you think you would run into? I feel like it's a little cheap to say "plan your time well and take care of yourself" as my go-to answer for this question, but that really is what it boils down to when it comes to being pre-med or in medical school and still having time to do literally anything else in your life, fandom included. Most of the people I know in medical school that don't have time for other stuff are the folks that study in groups with Twitter open in another tab that I get like a dozen snaps from over the course of the eight hours they're in the study rooms, and not-coincidentally they're also the people that go, "It took me eight hours to study this one lecture and I barely got any sleep!"

Creativity and learning ability (and anything else that requires mental power) rely on you having free time, and also you being well-rested, well-fed, and well-exercised. There are always going to be busy times when you can't do as much of your preferred hobby as you'd like (as you have probably experienced even now in undergrad with finals week at the end of your first semester!) which honestly fucking sucks, but that doesn't mean that those times are permanent.

Aside from that: depending on what kind of fandom stuff you get up to, don't be afraid to put that shit on your CV and applications! I literally put fanfiction writing (especially zines) on my CV this past year when applying to residencies, and have had many people ask about it in interviews and think it was just the coolest thing ever that I do this stuff. Medical school applications basically require you to check certain boxes (grades, MCAT, at least 50 physician shadowing hours, some kind of job or volunteering), but because those are things that are basically required at this point, putting fun shit in your extracurriculars stands out. I was never the person who could hack spending my free time volunteering for things I didn't care about, but my extracurricular section was still full of things that stood out and people found interesting.

My AO3 doesn't really date that much fanfiction to when I was in undergrad (2014-2018), but that's mostly because I was busy doing elaborate Homestuck fantroll RPs instead, hahaha. I don't know how many hundreds of thousands of words I must have written of it during that time!

This was a little all over the place, but I hope it was at least a little reassuring!

@whitebeakedraven has written some AMAZING c!dream-centric fics on ao3, definitely give them a look!

@chrysalizzm‘s writing is some of my absolute favorite in the fanbase - their young god universe is canon divergent starting from the festival, but GOD their writing is some of the most eloquent, well-written stuff out there - definitely give them a read if you haven’t, bc i love their writing and could gush abt it for hours
