If I can’t suggest enough if you live in Oregon and are going across Willamette Hwy visit Salt Creek Falls.

For some reason my family never visited it even though we drove past its innocuous sign ever year. Huge mistake!

The main lookout is so easy to access and with a little more work you can hike all the way down to the bowl.

Really a wonder probably in any season.

Such a perfect beautiful day to run. I went over to the Salt Creek Trail, which stretches 6 miles from a nearby forest preserve out to the Brookfield Zoo. I got a half-mile down the trail and ran into a sign like this. Major sad face.

So what do I do? Go as far as I can and find out why it’s closed? Flooding from the constant rain we’ve been getting? Road construction? The other alternative was to take a different branch of the trail that I’ve never gone down but I was pretty sure it included road portions and I’d have no idea where I was going.

I went with the alternate route and for a while it was fun seeing some new terrain. I run the same ol’ routes because I’m a total creature of habit. It was a grand time until about 4.5 miles out and suddenly I couldn’t figure out which way to go. A guy walking his dog pointed me in the supposed right direction, but when reviewing later I missed a turn a half-mile earlier.

Great wrap to a 38 mile week though. If only I could stop sneezing from whatever allergy I seem to have. It must be this white stuff floating in the air. Damn you!

I drove somewhere for my long run for the first time in months. Can’t say I was looking forward to it with the strong wind, but it was fine. Some warmer weather would do miracles for my motivation right now. 12 miles done and 28 total for the week. Starting to feel like I’m building a decent baseline for some spring races.
