A year ago in April 22, I got my own bilateral salpingectomy :) See the entire comic: Bilateral Salpingectomy by Rosalarian is just a few pages longer, but here's the most info-packed panels.
This was a relatively simple procedure for an outpatient surgery, but a vasectomy is way easier! If you have a penis, no need for any/more kids, and have partners who could possibly get pregnant, please consider getting yourself fixed to protect them from an unwanted pregnancy! More people with penises taking responsibility for birth control can have an incredibly positive impact in these troubled times.
I was lucky to be covered by insurance so I don't know the value of my own salpingectomy. According to some comments and the full-length comic, you can expect the cost in dollars to be like $22,000. Vasectomies on the other hand, I have heard anecdotes for as little as $750 out of pocket.

5 things I wish I knew before having my fallopians tubes removed
1. That I'd have cramping and vaginal bleeding (I don't know why that thought never crossed my mind)
2. That one of the incisions would be in my belly button
3. That incisions itch really bad
4. That main pain meds would make me so constipated
5. That you get asked the same questions like 10 times before the surgery
Would still get the surgery and I'm so grateful my OBGYN approved it

Don’t want to upset anyone following with medical shit so I’m putting this under the cut. Mind the tags. If you’re considering a salping make sure you’re completely informed going in (no this isn’t a horror story)
Aight so as expected I do see folks in this tag talking about cramping, blood, nausea and pain after the salping to a somewhat surprising degree so I suspect I’m not the only one who didn’t know that using a uterine manipulator is apparently standard practice though almost never disclosed to patients until after (which yes I find infuriating since you can’t exactly agree to something you don’t know about. I don’t care if it’s standard practice lying by omission shouldn’t be.)
So if you’re in a surprising amount of pain you might also be recovering from the physical trauma of that. As the name implies it’s a device that is pushed into the uterus so the surgeon can move it around during surgery. I’m not gonna lie, I have yet to see a single surgeon be gentle with this procedure and there are plenty of parts on those things (some designs are truly batshit) that look like they’re causing micro tears left and right. Or, you know, surgeons just jamming things in.
Definitely cervix trauma so seriously, take it easy.
I don’t consider that minimally invasive at all but apparently it’s just not talked about. Go figure. So anyway, if you’re hurting be gentle with yourself. As per usual we get left in the dark.
Planning to test my gyn to see if they’ll disclose this on their own or if I need to call it out. That’ll determine a lot about if I get this done (if I can opt out) and you know, if I’m switching to someone else who values me enough as a person to tell me what they’re doing to my body. Like I said, I’m not happy.

I was telling a friend about how I just signed the consent forms for a salpingectomy, and my Spanish teacher overheard. Her issue was not, however, that I may want kids in the future.
She was confused that I'd get surgery when I don't even have a boyfriend, and apparently "I plan on being sexually active even if I don't get a partner soon" is not a good enough reason because I'm "not going to be walking around town with an 'im single' poster." I know I'm desperate, but godamn 😭
Imagine your teacher telling you that getting your tubes removed is stupid because you get no bitches (and you're a desperate ho, btw)

AFAB CHILDFREE AMERICANS
Please utilize this list of doctors who offer sterilization across the country.
I went to one of the doctors on this list and she agreed to sterilize me immediately. I had my first appointment in late April and my fallopian tubes were in the trash by early July.
Protect yourselves.
