В этот день в 1879 году родился Казимир Малевич. С 1949 года в собрании Пушкинского музея представлена его картина «Дети на лужайке». Гуашь представляет собой редкий пример работы, относящейся к раннему, фовистскому, периоду творчества художника. Она была создана в 1908 году в Москве, в то время, когда Малевич посещал школу-студию Фёдора Ивановича Рерберга.

Рерберг отличался большой гибкостью и интересовался новейшими течениями в искусстве; ��н старался приобщит�� молодых художников к новым техникам и методам работы над картиной. Неудивительно, что именно в эти годы Малевич увлекся постимпрессионизмом и фовизмом в попытках найти более сложный пластический язык для своих произведений. В московском рисунке Малевич пытается работать большими цветовыми пятнами, следуя одному из главных принципов фовистов – главенство цвета. Полностью отказываясь от перспективы, он изображает маленькие фигурки детей во всевозможных ракурсах и позах, демонстрируя, таким образом, в одном рисунке разные моменты игр. Упрощенная трактовка фигур является одной из характерных черт неопримитивизма – одного из авангардных направлений в искусстве. Парой к московскому рисунку является гуашь под названием «Отдых. Общество в цилиндрах», датированная тем же годом и хранящаяся в Русском музее.
