At this time of year we're always inundated with beautiful Christmas books. And while I enjoy them very much, they tend to make me realize how little many people know about the holiday that I and other Jewish people celebrate at this time of year - Chanukah. Far from simply being "the Jewish equivalent of Christmas", Chanukah is an incredibly beautiful, historically meaningful holiday with its own rich traditions. In the next few weeks I'd like to share some of the many wonderful books about MY holiday that I've enjoyed over the years. Let's start simply, though. Action rhymes and fingerplays are such a fun way to develop early literacy and motor skills with toddlers! This week, the Read With River Book Club is focused on ACTION; and since we're also in the middle of the Jewish High Holidays, I thought it would be a great time to pull Jacqueline Jules's "Clap and Count! Action Rhymes for the Jewish Year"(2000) off my bookshelf to share.
