Chapitre 221 - Remaining Laws of Nature

I’m fully in love with the bottom panels - how the Syaorans and Sakuras are transposed over each other. Especially when it’s a glimpse of horrified empathy over the suffering that other versions of themselves have gone through - on top of all the suffering that they themselves have already gone through. 

It feels like such an emotional win that Yuuko says that’s enough. There won’t be any more suffering for them. They’ve all gone through so much that they don’t need any more - more won’t achieve anything. It’s very nice that the suffering-wish-cost-balance-maths also agrees on this front. 

On a different meta level it’s so fascinating that Clamp wrote it this way. It's another moment where you can really see the way their storytelling changed over the years, especially when you compare this moment to something like RG Veda or X/1999, where there is rampant suffering in endlessly horrible ways. Here in Tsubasa Clamp establish a limit - they have Yuuko directly address Syaoran and Sakura and tell them that they’ve gone through enough and they deserve to just live now. It’s a huge shift in emotional focus, in a similar way to how Fai and Kurogane both survived Seresu - another arc that would have ended differently had it been an earlier CLAMP work rather than a later one. 

I just really enjoy their changing priorities over time and how here in their most climactic work the note they keep going back to is, “Actually, that’s enough suffering. You have earned peace.”

Some character designs I made for a Naruto fic I wrote like a decade ago lol. Is it good? Nah, but its nostalgic to look back on.

It was, like all fics of the 2014 era, a variation on Time Travel. Sakura is sent back to fix things, raises all the orphans ever, smooches Itachi, and remained cool and edgy because I was 14 when I wrote it😂 still one of my best-read works across platforms.

You know what would be funny?

So let's say with my Sakura reincarnation au elements with the Harunos able to see their past lives memories/ghosts. Shachi and Haruka have been around since Sakura was born.

Shachi and Haruka coo and gush over her. Sakura's their baby, and they'll make damn sure her life ends better than theirs' did. They know that eventually, when she gets put on a genin team, there's a high chance that if her team mates have past lives, she'll start seeing them too. It happens. The closer a Haruno gets to somebody, the more likely they know each other in a past life.

Then comes the day when team 7 was assigned. While waiting in that empty classroom, Shachi and Haruka notice Sakura fidgeting. She kept looking between her two teammates. Haruka remembers doing the same thing when she first saw the ghosts of Indra and Ashura. But it would be too early for Sakura to start seeing. . .

"OH HELL NO!" Six voices shouted. Four while looking at one another, and two looking at the other four.

Sakura flinched hard, thankful she was sitting behind the boys. While Haruka could be loud at times, Sakura has never heard Shachi raise her voice once. She has never heard such venom in either of their voices before. Except for that one time. . .wait a minute.

Searching back through her past lives' memories, she found the identities of the four ghostly men she could now see. Who all seemed so surprised she could see them. Yeah, Sakura doesn't blame Shachi and Haruka being upset. She would be pretty pissed too if she was suddenly reunited with her husband and best friend, who both also happened to be the reason she's dead.

Shachi and Haruka are outraged. THEY HAVE TO DEAL WITH THEM AGAIN!?

DEATH DO WE PART MOTHERFUCKER! WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?!?!?! I DON'T GET PEACE IN DEATH EITHER?!?!

Poor Sakura has to pretend she doesn't see the six ghosts all yelling at one another. Has to pretend she doesn't have a front row seat to the ghostly drama. She wishes she could somehow give the sight to Naruto and Sasuke too so they can suffer with her.

Shachi and Haruka are also protective of Sakura. So, if any of the boys' past lives try to interact with her, it's the fastest way to get an angry pink lady on their case.

What would be even funnier if Sasuke and Naruto could interact with their past lives but only them. So they're seeing half the show. Sasuke only sees Indra and Madara cowering, muttering about angry wives. Meanwhile, Naruto only sees Ashura and Hashirama trying to placate someone, a sister?

Then poor Sakura just sees the whole thing of her past lives trying to beat the ass of Sasuke's past lives because they are still angry at them. Natuto's past lives are trying to calm the situation, but Sakura's past lives are still angry at them, too. Then Sasuke's past lives are yelling Naruto's past lives, and they start arguing, which just sets all on fire again.

Finally, something from 2025 (I literally finished it yesterday). I just couldn't stop thinking about it, in my dreams, waking up, eating... It was like a virus.

HELLO! YUKITO AND TOUYA HELLO!! PEAK COUPLE SPOTTED. EXCITEMENT MAXIMUM.

But I suppose I should actually read the page too.

UPDATE. IT IS EVEN MORE WILD THAN BEFORE SOMEHOW.

WHAT DO I EVEN DO WITH THIS?!

Where do we even start.

Yuuko’s talking about the Jam Jar and explains that it was “entrusted to me by the flesh and blood relations of the two of them.”

And the [two of them] seems to be referring to Lava Lamp’s parents, judging by the rest of the page (unless there are even MORE Syaorans and Sakuras floating around but I'm not even considering that yet). But immediately PULL THE BREAK. PULL EVERY BREAK. LET’S STOP RIGHT HERE. 

The panel that mentions the “blood relations” of [the two of them] shows Touya and Yukito from behind. Touya and Yukito specifically in regular, modern clothes. 

And I completely lose it.

BECAUSE LIKE

THAT IS 100% THEIR CARDCAPTOR SAKURA VERSIONS IS IT NOT?!

AND LIKE OK.

We’ve done this dance before.

Lava Lamp’s backstory was FULL of references that seemed to imply (on purpose) that Cardcaptor Sakura was the origin of his parents, with JUST enough small inconsistencies to show that that’s PROBABLY not actually who they are, YET THEY CONTINUED to tease it as the real answer.

And EVEN HERE they're doing it again. 

They show us a Touya and Yukito who 1 to 1 look like their Cardcaptor Sakura counterparts, in modern clothing - but FROM BEHIND, to add a little bit of doubt. The story is lining up all the pieces so that once again it looks like CCS Touya and Yukito gave Yuuko the Jam Jar - and that it's potentially CCS Sakura and Syaoran in the Jam Jar, who have never met Yuuko, but still turned back time, even if it meant “distancing themselves from their own children”. 

AND THEY EVEN SHOW YOU THEM, SAKURA AND SYAORAN as Lava Lamp’s parents BUT FROM A DISTANCE, SO YOU CAN’T POSSIBLY TELL FOR SURE EXACTLY IF THEY’RE WHO YOU THINK THEY ARE OR NOT. 

MORE - THEY SHOW US THE MAGIC CIRCLES. Sakura stands on Syaoran’s magic circle and Syaoran stands on CARDCAPTOR SAKURA’S MAGIC CIRCLE. And even though people argue with me over this I will stand by the fact that we have canonically only seen this magic circle for Cardcaptor Sakura at this point in the story. It is her UNIQUE magic circle she created on her own. That’s the only place we have seen it. 

And, yes! From a wider universe perspective it’s possible that Sakura’s Unique Magic Circle is Actually Not Unique and Other Sakura’s Also Have The Same Magic Circle, but we don’t know that yet. We've seen Xing Huo, for example, using the Reed magic circle. Which could be for many many reasons, but on the simplest level it's an example of Another Sakura using a magic circle that is Not the one implied to be unique to Cardcaptor Sakura.

And do I think Lava Lamp's mother is Cardcaptor Sakura? No!

But what we do know is that Clamp are having the TIME OF THEIR LIVES showing us glimpses of symbols and characters KNOWING That it all points directly towards Cardcaptor Sakura

 EVEN THOUGH IT COULDN’T REALISTICALLY BE HER. But with enough doubt in place for the thoughts of "OR COULD IT?" to be just as valid at this point.

EVERY PIECE OF THIS IS ON PURPOSE AND I AM GOING RABID OVER IT. 

AND JUST. Even though I know it’s most likely not actually them, is just genuinely so much fun to see them that I don’t even mind. 

Lie to me Clamp! Lead me to the wrong conclusion! I will have a fantastic time even if I don’t actually believe you. 

Also I am absolutely not receiving any comments that clarify who they are at this time thank you.
