I was talking to my partner about how I think the main reason "heroic" gyaru characters are so trendy in anime right now, is likely because the actual fashion trend is over now, meaning they're no longer "scary" for being girls that rebel against Japanese beauty standards and act "rough". I do remember a time where gyaru characters showed up a lot less frequently but were generally portrayed as aggressive dumb sluts when they did, you know the drill... I remember there was even an afterward in the sailor moon manga where Naoko described herself as being scared when approached by a gyaru because that was the culture of the time. They were considered scary delinquents.
But now that the trend is officially over, anime can look back and decide "that was pretty cool actually! maybe they weren't all dumb sluts! Maybe stereotypes are bad! Maybe those delinquents were cool! maybe it would be great to have a sexy gyaru girlfriend!" (it does fail to address that even if a girl slept around that's fine, all the gyaru characters portrayed as good in anime are generally chaste, which generally gets a big whawhwhwhwhwa reaction, you can't judge a book my it's cover it seems!!! okay but why are judging the book to begin with.)
like don't get me wrong i love gyaru characters i love delinquent girls with all my heart and am glad to see them getting their flowers even it's too little too late. But it's interesting.
There is one big exception to the "animanga portayed gyarus as bad and dumb" at the height of the trend (and probably a lot of smaller ones but I'm talking in broad strokes) which is a shoujo manga called Gals! The main "gal character" is portrayed as struggling in school and a little ditsy, but overall plenty smart. She's a role model! She's a gal for justice. I've been meaning to read/watch it so I can't say much more but:
When she was in elementary school, she was enthusiastic about becoming a police officer, but quit the ambition after learning that she won't be able to dye her hair or wear her favorite accessories.
Being a gyaru saved her from becoming a cop, thank god.
There's some other big examples I found are also shoujo: Peach Girl and Shiritsu! Bijinzaka Joshi Koukou...
Sukeban were considered a similar delinquent subculture rebelling against norms, and I don't know enough about manga scene then to how Sukeban were overall portrayed, but it also interests me that the most prominent positive portrayal of them was also a shoujo manga-- in this case Sukeban Deka/Keiji. This was in 1975 when sukeban was very much still a thing. And arguably, that manga is why a lot of Sukeban heroes/nice girls show up in media today despite being so incredibly anachronistic.
(there's something to be said about how both delinquents being "good" comes with ties to the police, though with Saki it's more complicated because law enforcement is also depicted as incredibly shady and actually blackmails her).
I don't know what my point here all is, just that it's an interesting but unsurprising trend of rebellious women only getting sympathy when they're no longer active and no longer perceived as a threat, but the exceptions of sympathetic portrayal specifically when the trend is popular coming from shoujo manga...well it's only two examples so it could be a coincidence, but it's interesting. I think a very likely reason is the mangaka some girls who read manga might fall into those countercultures so they should have a story for them, or the idea rebellion might be more enticing for girls even if they are straight laced...
(actually it could be i don't know what im talking about i might delete this later)

considering yosuke's character is based largely on internalized societal values and toxic masculinity, how do you think he would be like as a cis girl? i feel like he would be hyperfeminine and probably to the point as a typical mean girl and the other possibility in my head apart from that is being a femcel who resents other women for managing to be pretty, get a boyfriend, etc since yosuke would quote on quote 'fail' in 'womanly' roles. but im curious for what your intepretion would be
ooooh, interesting question! i think first of all, the way in which yosuke is ostracized would change, so the way she reacts to it would change, at least somewhat. i don’t think cis girl yosuke would be hyperfeminine or a mean girl cause both of those things are very social, they’re only really acceptable if they’re what your clique are doing, and yosuke doesn’t have a clique. my interpretation is probably closer to your second option, though i think she’s more inclined to envy and self-deprecation more than resentment.
i think femininity wouldn’t “come naturally” to girlyosuke, so she’d overcompensate and double down on anything she can perform, say heterosexuality. like how i believe canon yosuke is more interested in women as an extension of masculinity, i think cis girl yosuke would be more interested in men as an extension of femininity, but those dynamics aren’t quite parallel. pursuing men isn’t performing acceptable femininity. not pursuing men isn’t acceptable femininity. there isn’t really an acceptable femininity at all, no comfort of doing it right. i think girlyosuke would still have an interest in fashion magazines, just womens fashion. so she’d parrot the same kinda “guys like girls who” shit, especially as justification for her own taste lmao, but she wouldn’t then use that to be hyperfeminine herself, cause trying too hard to be pretty/attractive to men despite being plain will get her figuratively murdered, socially, especially when she’s already in a precarious position as the face of the thing that everyone loves to hate. i mean, not trying hard will also result in her ostracism, but that’s the baseline. girlyosuke is so dire. she’s even more like saki. she’s simultaneously put on a pedestal and degraded as the princess of junes. i think she’d be pretty desperate for any friendship she can get, while resenting the town that shuns her.
honestly girl yosuke is just yosuke + misogyny. vast swathes of her deal are the same just flipped, then reconsidered how she would be seen by the society around her keeping in mind misogyny.
the things i think would most change are her relationships to those around her, depending on if they’re also cisswapped or not. girl yosuke with guy yu is (superficially) uninteresting like every romance in p4, except it would be like a romance in p4 even if the writing around it wasn’t p4, you know? cishet souyo is inescapably very persona 4. it’s plucked straight out of yosuke’s dreams. the comphet + bisexuality combo… dire. a guy she genuinely likes coming along willing to tolerate her? she’d think him a saviour. it’s fun to think about. but if yu’s also a girl then it’s as it is in canon + internalized misogyny, which is also very fun.
the most interesting thing that i think would change is girlyosuke’s relationship to saki, chie, and yukiko, if they’re also girls. with saki it’s that they’re then very very similar, and without the looming spectre of heterosexuality (other than what’s peddled by yosuke lol) i think saki might be a fair bit more open to her. girlyosuke would still like-like saki. and saki would still find the way she desperately clings to her annoying and etc. but they might be closer than they were in canon, which of course would make what comes next worse. in this situation, i think you could get girlyosuke’s shadow explicitly acknowledging that which shall not be named (bisexuality), which is awesome and could have lasting effects on her character arc compared to canon yosuke. with chie and yukiko, i think girlyosuke still wouldn’t necessarily fit in with them, especially with her penchant for heteronormativity and acting stupider than she is, but they’d be more sympathetic and not outright hostile to her. (also, it’s neither here nor there, but imagine the homoeroticism of girlyosuke saying the exact same shit she says about them in canon. fun.) three people that tolerate her starting out the story is pretty sweet, but they also all come with caveats, and she wouldn’t feel safe being attracted to them as she is, so.

Both!
ooo... that's a good one... my sonas and my friends... it got kind of long and rambley, sorry.
Tumblr media
well... among my own sonas... I think I'd have to say Rabuka for several reasons!
I'm a really big fan of his animalistic features (his wings and his tail! he technically has animal ears too but I didn't feel like drawing it.) and the black, white, and red color scheme with the yellow eyes. I have always been a big fan of characters with yellow eyes because it lends to an aura of mystery and divine origin,,, and because Rabuka is a demon who's got features based on a chimera, it works in his favour.!
Tumblr media
Of course, there's also his lore and personality I like a lot too, as well as his interactions/relationships with other sonas.
See, Rabuka (which also means frilled shark in Japanese!) has a more. blunt and serious personality, he's very detached from those around him, so he doesn't have many close relationships. And because he's in technical hell, most of the relationships he has aren't deep or intimate either. Of course, this man is a little (extremely) out of pocket and it just adds to his charm I think.
He's a bartender and a gambler at heart, in the overworld at least. He appears at the casino that Pins' mafia boss sona runs, and he acts as her right-hand man. He almost softens up around Miss Vampire because he doesn't perceive her as a threat. He thinks she's kind of cute, to be honest.
In hell, he is the technical bodyguard of the princess. Miss Char... well, see. She isn't the sharpest knife in the shed. She does stupid things and gets herself into situations and it's up to him to save her. He thinks she's a dumbass, but she's his dumbass and he'll be damned if anything happens to her while he's there.
He wants to have a heart of stone. To be cold and uncaring and emotionless. And he is, for the most part, yes. But there's a tiny sliver of him that is *almost like human* that no amount of being a powerful demon in hell can really override.
Of course, there is his lore, which adds to his personality and relationships a lot.
Rabu wasn't always in hell, after all. He wasn't human, of course, but he wasn't always a demon either.
I think what I like most about Rabu is his duality. He isn't black and white, but rather all the different shades of grey in between. There's not one correct way to see the world, morality isn't just one or the other.
Everything is a spectrum. Rabu included.
And I think I just really vibe with that.
Tumblr media
as for friends' sonas...
for starters, miss fashion designer is by far my favorite Pins' sona. I mean. Just look at her. She's gonna go jump the k-pop idol and her brother and do it in STYLE /j (and probably lose /lh)
Tumblr media
I also just really enjoy the vibe and relationship she has with miss florist. they just have a really enjoyable dynamic together and I really love the way they mesh together! women <33
for klai, i kind of. really vibe with Zaiaku??? there's something about the other sister who tries so hard to fix everything that she falls apart. that I just really like. I also really do like their design! It's giving off like. elegant older sister vibes... I can trust her with my worries!!
i probably shouldn't but hey! saki's colorblind so there /j
Tumblr media
and then for Sam. well.
White Devil.
I have a bias for puppet/doll aesthetics and they just. hit it so well....... I just. I also have a personal bias towards their design and color palette. Something about them is offputting but in a /pos way and I do think the eldritch horror doctor motif fits Sam perfectly???
And there's the matching Nerissa.
And the way they interact with one another and in the setting of the story is just. really nice. The way they assist one another and care so deeply.
There's something about two monsters learning to love each other that's really heartwarming for these two.
Tumblr media
...
okay so you might be wondering if Tazai is my favorite Tae sona. to which.
uhm.
narratively speaking, yeah? I think the character development they go through and the struggles they've gone through have made them an overall favorite sona of all time for me, and the way they express love towards their girlfriend/future wife and the lengths and pain they're willing to go through is enough to make any stone cold bitch swoon but.
i have another favorite above them.
now i KNOW you are ALL RUSHING towards me with your fire and pitchforks /j because who the FUCK would I like more than TAZAI who I drew so FUCKING much to which.
hear me out hear me out
Tumblr media
okay so like. hey hey wait no hear me OUt.
tatum is my favorite tae sona purely because of how. silly she actually is. she's just a fun sona to draw and she's a fun sona to shitpost with.
tatum isn't SUPPOSED to be taken seriously and that's. why I love her.
Tumblr media
okay thanks for coming to my tedtalk please don't kill me over my choices of favoritism /j

Drag Race UK: Meet the queens of season six
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/drag-race-uk-meet-the-queens-of-season-six/
Drag Race UK: Meet the queens of season six
Tumblr media
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is soon set to return to screens and the BBC have confirmed the official line-up of queens ready to walk the runway.
“The competition sees hopeful drag queens compete across ten weeks in a variety of spicy challenges and iconic games designed to test their drag mettle, with the winner of the week being awarded a coveted RuPeter badge, and the bottoms of the week facing a lip sync for their life and the risk of elimination,” an official synopsis reads.
Season six will see Ru return alongside Michelle Visage, Alan Carr, Graham Norton and a host of celebrity guest judges.
For Australian fans, homegrown talent Saki Yew is set to be a likely favourite to snatch the crown.

Tell us about yourself!
Hello! I’m Actavia, I am 21 years old, and I’m from a tiny little town in North Wales called Bala but I now live in Manchester. Bring on the Welsh!
How does it feel to be a Ru girl?
This is literally like a dream come true. It’s such a cliché thing to say but I just can’t believe it’s real and that I’m here.
How long have you been doing drag?
I quickly became obsessed with all things drag around five years ago when I was 16 years old however, being from such a small town, drag was never something that was around me. After discovering Drag Race, everything just clicked! I’ve always loved performing and being on stage so I knew drag was for me and here I am!
How would you describe your drag?
I would describe myself as a bit of a chameleon, and I always like to add a villainess look to my drag aesthetic but I’m really approachable – I promise!
Chanel O’Conor
25, Scotland

A post shared by RuPaul’s Drag Race UK (@dragraceukbbc)
Tell us about yourself!
Hello! My name is Chanel O’Conor, I’m 25 and I’m originally from the Isle of Bute in Scotland.
We hear you’re a talented seamstress?
I make all of my own clothes, and I’ve created looks for other queens too. In fact, a lot of my work has already featured on the show as I’ve made outfits for Drag Race UK Series two winner Lawrence Chaney and for various other queens. I’m so proud of that, but it’s now time for me. I want to show off all of my creations ON ME – and I want to win!
Why drag?
I discovered drag as a child watching comedy specials that starred iconic drag characters such as Lily Savage and Dame Edna. From watching these legends, I became obsessed and fell completely in love with drag. Growing up, I used to escape the island for a drama class on the mainland every Saturday, which is where I discovered my true love for experimenting with character creation. From that, I took a drag show to the Edinburgh Fringe and it just snowballed from there – I’ve now been doing drag for eight years!
How did you create the persona of Chanel?
I created the character of Chanel O’Conor as a way for me to ‘play pretend’ in a world I could never be in – being rich, being famous and being a natural ginger. I mixed my love for powerful women and fabulous fashions to create a baby version of Chanel O’Conor – someone who is pure luxury, Austrian royalty twice removed and sips champagne in her private submarine in Lake Como!
Charra Tea

How does it feel to be a Ru girl?
I feel like I’m on a prank show and any minute now, someone’s going to pop up and say, “Just joking!”. I’m so excited! Meeting RuPaul for the first time is going to be so surreal. I’m obsessed and I’m hoping she can understand this gorgeous Belfast accent.
What inspires your drag?
I was an artsy kid growing up and I’ve always been drawn to big, bold, bright colours which I incorporate into my drag. Some people call it tacky, but I love that and I embrace the tacky!
What would you see at a typical Charra Tea show?
If you were to come to a Charra Tea show, expect to see a pop culture parrot. I love incorporating random niche quotes in my shows from all the UK pop culture legends – Gemma Collins, Kim Woodburn, Nadine Coyle – I love them all!
What would it mean to be the UK’s Next Drag Race Superstar?
To win Drag Race UK would be incredible. Who goes on Drag Race and doesn’t want to win? I’m fun, fresh, I’m not afraid to be tacky and be myself and I love primary colours. I want that crown!
Dita Garbo
47, Kent

Tell us about yourself!
I’m Dita Garbo, I’m 48 years young from the sunny seaside town of Folkestone in Kent, and I’m so excited to be putting Folkestone on the map!
How would you describe your drag?
I serve burlesque Hollywood glamour. My influences are burlesque icon Dita Von Teese and Hollywood starlet, Greta Garbo. Hence my name – Dita Garbo. I like to say I’m the burlesque lovechild of Dita Von Teese and Greta Garbo! But I can switch it up if I need to keep up with the kids!
I can jump, split, kick, turn, shablam, drop, turn, backflip, split again… but then I might need some help getting up!
You are the oldest contestant we’ve had on Drag Race UK. How will you use that to your advantage in the competition?
The nice thing about being older is that you come to the competition with a lot of wisdom. If the younger queens need it, I’ll give them some motherly love and advice, but if they annoy me, I’ll tell them!
What challenges are you most excited to take on?
I can sew, I can dance, and I can sing too so I’m excited for any challenges that require those skills! I’ve been a performer all my life and I’m so proud and happy to have been invited by Ru into the Drag Race UK sisterhood and I can’t wait to show what I can do as a mature lady!
Kiki Snatch

  Tell us about yourself!
Hey, I’m Kiki Snatch, I’m 25 years old from London and I’m going to snatch your hearts, baby!
What can you expect at a Kiki Snatch show?
I’m not just a look queen, I’m a big performance queen. I can dance and sing whilst looking pretty doing it! You’re going to get cartwheels, splits, dips, tricks, games with the audience, games… You’re just going to have a fun, fabulous time. That’s why they call me Kiki!
Who are your drag influences?
My drag is inspired by iconic female artists such as Mica Paris, Donna Summer, Beyoncé, Ciara and Teyana Taylor. I’m also inspired by the women in my family – they are all so fierce and powerful.
Tell us about your drag name origins?
I’m a bundle of joy and I love to party and so Kiki comes from me loving a ‘kiki’, which is drag lingo for having a good time. And Snatch of course can mean many things applicable to me – a snatched waist, a snatched face or snatching the Drag Race UK crown!

Tell us about yourself!
Hello, I’m Kyran Thrax, I’m 26 years old, and I’m originally from Lancashire.
How does it feel to be a Ru girl?
The idea that I’m here right now just feels so correct! I’m raring to go, the timing is perfect. I am going to be a monster.
Why drag?
I’m a performer, and whilst studying Acting and Contemporary Theatre at drama school, I was doing Shakespeare, expressionism, and clowning… and so I thought why not put it all together and mix it with my love of make-up and drag. And so here we are! I’ve been doing drag for four years, and I’ve been doing it full time for two. I absolutely love it. I’ve done fashion shows, drag brunches, commercials, performances in theatres and clubs. You’ve probably even seen me on a cinema screen and now, I’m finally here!
What would it mean to you to take the crown?
It would mean absolutely everything to me to win Drag Race UK. I have been through so much in life and just to be here is amazing. I’m going to cherish every single moment.

Introduce yourself!
Hello, darlings! I’m La Voix, I’m 43 and I’m from Stockton on Tees. I am a seasoned diva and I cannot wait to get going!
How does it feel to be a Ru girl?
I’m so excited. When they rang me and told me the news, I couldn’t believe it! Shocked isn’t even the word. I had to clear my diary – I’m very busy you see.
Describe a typical La Voix drag show?
I’m known for big, loud belty songs and I love to make ‘em laugh. Comedy and singing are my thing.
You are indeed a very busy queen. Tell us about your career highlights?
Where do I even start?! I’ve competed in Britain’s Got Talent, starred in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, working with Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley; I’ve starred in various pantomimes over the span of twenty years; I’ve worked on EIGHTY cruise ships (yes eighty!) and I’ve toured all over the world with my one woman show… and now I’m here on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK!

Tell us about yourself!
Hiya! My name’s Lill, I’m 36 years old, and I’m from the best place in the world – Manchester! I’m gorgeous, I’ve got great style, I’m creative, fun and I’m easy like a Sunday morning.
How would you describe your drag?
I would say my drag is very creative and rebellious. I love getting stuff from charity shops, cutting things up and transforming old tatty stuff into the stunning!  I’ve got a thousand different references that influence my drag. I adore fashion and my favourite designer is John Galliano, who inspires a lot of my fashion looks. The best thing about me is my sense of style. My style is usually glamourous pin up girl, but sometimes it can be freaky and weird! Fashion comes and goes, but style is forever.
What are the origins of your drag name?
Lill is an acronym for Living in Lavish Luxury. My friend made it up for me one day, and I ran with it! I like to think I’m living in lavish luxury always! I appreciating each moment as it comes, I spoil myself rotten and I have a great time.
What’s the biggest misconception about you?
I think it takes quite a while for people to get to know me. At first, people might think that I’m a bit rude or a bit stoney faced, but I’m definitely not. I’ve got the biggest, softest heart. I’m just a bit shy at first!

Introduce yourself!
Greetings one and all! My name is Marmalade, I am 24 years old and I am the crown jewel of Cardiff drag.
How would you describe your drag?
I would describe my drag as Hollywood glamour, all wrapped up in a gorgeous Welsh sense of stupidity. When I was sixteen, I saw the most fabulous photo of the Hollywood starlet, Lana Turner in the film The Prodigal and that was it! All I wanted from then was to become that image. My favourite leading ladies are Rita Hayworth, Lana Turner, Faye Dunaway, Barbara Streisand. Also, two of my all-time favourites are Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn in Death Becomes Her. I like to think that I give vintage aesthetic with a modern twist!
What is the drag scene like in Cardiff?
The Cardiff drag scene is very tiny. There are very few queens and kings there. That said, it’s a mighty scene. We’re a gorgeous set of very talented weirdos. I am the prettiest though. I mean, look at me!
Your work has already appeared on Drag Race UK. Tell us more?
Outside of drag, I am a full-time seamstress. I’ve made outfits for Drag Race UK alumni such as Lawrence Chaney, Victoria Scone and Tia Kofi, but it’s now my time to step into the spotlight so here I am! I started sewing out of complete necessity, as there weren’t many drag seamstresses in Cardiff, and now it’s become a career and my passion and my major superpower.

  Tell us about yourself?
Hey boo! My name is Rileasa Slaves, I’m 32 years old from London, but I was born in St Lucia. She’s international baby!
People say you’re the spitting image of a certain pop star… tell us more?
I have been told I resemble a certain worldwide superstar named Rihanna. Like Rhianna, I’m also a Caribbean queen, a glamazon, and a superstar, but I’m not Rihanna. I’m the real Rileasa, ready to be rileasa’d onto the world.
What have been your career highlights?
Drag has opened so many doors for me. I’m a trained contemporary dancer, and I have performed on tour with Becky Hill, travelled all over Europe and even performed at Glastonbury! It was an amazing moment to perform to such a big crowd. And now, I’m on Drag Race UK!
What does drag mean to you?
The first time I did drag, I had so much fear in my bones. A lot of my fear came from my religious upbringing in the Caribbean and the difficulties you can face being part of the LGBTQ+ community in the Caribbean. Becoming Rileasa has given me the opportunity to face my fears.

Introduce yourself!
G’day mate! I’m Saki Yew and I’m 33 years old. I’m originally from Melbourne, Australia, but love brought me all the way across the globe to settle down in to life as a booked and blessed Manchester drag queen.
What can you expect from a Saki Yew show?
There’s a lot of energy – you won’t be able to take your eyes off me! You can expect to see a showgirl who’s going to perform her heart out, whether it be a ballad or a dance anthem. It’s really important to me, to represent my cultural identity in my drag and so I serve Australian showgirl glamour, mixed with high energy Filipino sass and a sprinkle of Northern wit and realness. I think I am a bit of a Frankenstein drag queen!
What skills do you bring to the competition?
I’ve been a drag queen for over thirteen years, and I have an extensive entertainment CV. As well as serving face and showgirl glamour, I am also a very experienced sewer and crafter. I particularly love crochet. My love of crochet comes from when I was on tour with The Lion King and during breaks in acts, I would crochet blankets, beanies, scarves. I even crocheted a beanie for my dog! Here’s hoping, that the opportunity arises to crochet in a design challenge!
What challenges are you looking forward to?
I can’t wait to show off in a girl group challenge and a Rusical! With my musical theatre background, these challenges are made for me.

Introduce yourself!
Mabuhay! I’m Zahirah Zapanta, I’m 28 years old from Nottingham and I’m your beauty queen!
How does it feel to be here as a Ru Girl?
I am feeling incredible, beautiful and most importantly humble! I’m so excited to be here.
Describe your drag?
The look is correct, the hair is laid, the performances are fabulous, but the personality is a chaotic mess! I’m so proud of my British Filipino roots and it has influenced my drag so much. As a little kid, I constantly watched beauty pageants such as Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Continental, and the UK has given me a unique and eclectic edge. I grew up with a lot of powerful women in my life. Growing up with Filipino aunties, my mum, my sister and lesbian aunties has definitely shaped Zahirah. The genetics do help me look this fabulous too!
Tell us about your journey to drag?
I was born in the Philippines and came to the UK with my family when I was 10 years old settling in Nottingham. Growing up, I was well known where I grew up. I was always quite flamboyant and my family actively encouraged me to be a beauty queen. As a teenager, it felt like a natural move to showcase my love of makeup and dressing up on YouTube. I built a fanbase, created a network, forayed into drag, learnt more about the art and I became a beauty queen!
Are you in it to win it?
Of course, I’m most definitely in it to win it!
The rumoured premiere date for season six is September 26. If past seasons are any indication, the series will stream on the same-day on Stan.

Romantic Killer – Prom King & Queen
By Sarah Stephenson
CHAPTER 2 - SHOPPING
“I can’t do this” Saki said. “I can’t bear being nominated for Prom Queen, so I’m stepping down. I don’t know who nominated me in the first place?”
“Saki, don’t do this to me! Please stay in the race with me” I begged.
Just then we noticed someone waltzing up to our table. It was none other than Rena and her bestie.
“So Anzu, are you looking forward to losing as Prom Queen” she asked, “And watching me dance with Tsukasa. Face it; you & Saki don’t have the looks to be the Queen of Prom. I was born to lead.” Rena tossed back her hair as we watched her walk off her bestie following behind her like a groupie.
Saki looked back at me with a determine look in her eyes. “You know what?” she said, “I’ve changed my mind. Let’s show her we can be Queens too”.
I still couldn’t believe it. Saki and I were going out shopping together. In the past she tried millions of times to drag me into Fashion Boutiques but each time I told her I had a date with some video games.
The first place we stopped at was a fancy boutique with many beautiful dresses in different colours. I have never seen such fancy dresses in all my life. There were cocktail dresses with skinny straps, long elegant dresses, sparkly dresses and low-cut sexy dresses.
In the end, I decided with a pale blue elegant dress with beautiful silver beads. Saki went with a beautiful red strapless dress that high-lighted her hair. She looked great.
“Wow. You look beautiful Anzu” Saki said, “You’ll steal the show and win hands down”.
Oh no I thought. I shouldn’t be the one hogging the spotlight. I didn’t want it. I should be helping Saki to win. “Maybe, I should get something else?” I suggested.
“No Anzu” Saki said, “go with that dress. It was made for you”.
Next we looked at the shoes and accessories. Saki selected red high heels and matching earrings as they went well with her red dress. I tried to be interested in a boring pair of white shoes until Saki pointed out some stunning blue studded heels. Saki talked me into buying them. All we had to do now was to get out nails done.
While I was waiting for my manicurist, I tried to focusing on reading a magazine, all the while wondering about our day when a tall lady in white appeared.
“Your manicurist is ready for you” she said.
I got up and followed her to the manicurist’s booth. She was a bright and bubbly lady with blonde hair and she wore pink lipstick. She took my hand and started filing my nails.
“So darling, how the shopping going” she asked, “Did you have a good time deciding on a prom dress and shoes?” How could she know I’ve been shopping for a prom dress? Could she have been talking to Saki? I looked across the booth at Saki who is talking cheerfully at her manicurist.
I looked back at my own manicurist and saw, dangling from her ear, a small earring that was in the shape of a star. I know that star so well. It was the very same star that dangled off human Riri’s school bag and the same star on her wand. No, not her. The devil. Not again.
“You can drop the act” I said, “I know who you are, Riri”
“I could never fool you Anzu” she said giggling, “So, how was your shopping trip. I saw the dress. You’ll steal those boys’ hearts at Prom”.
“You can stop all this” I said, “I’m not going along with your silly plan. I’m going to see my friend Saki be selected as Prom Queen.” Riri’s eyes widened. Finally, I won this round.
“But Anzu, by midnight if you don’t kiss your true love, I will cease to exist” she said.
What is she saying?
“WHHHHAAAAATTTT?” I shouted nearly falling out of my seat. The whole spa began to shake like an earthquake just hit it. The women sitting either side of me looked my way with annoyed looks on their faces. I felt embarrassed as my face blushed red.
“Like I said,” Riri continued as a tear rolled down her cheek, “I would disappear and never be able return. This was my final chance to set you up. My bosses were supportive of the idea about getting you matched up that night”. What? My last chance to fall in love? Why would they put this much pressure on Riri and I. How can I fall in love in one night and how will I know it’s real?
As we left the nail salon, my heart felt very heavy. I was physically drained after hearing what Riri said.
“What’s wrong Anzu?” Saki asked, “You were happy in the boutique, the shoe shop and now you look as though you have the weight of the world on your shoulders.” Yeah, I’m going to lose my best friend Riri & no magic in the world will bring her back this time.

calling all ex-aid women, KILL
this is just sketching out some thoughts for an ex-aid roleswap au, where Poppy, Saki and Nico switch places with their kamen rider counterparts. i mostly made this up because i needed saki to transform into a dragon.
Kamen Rider Poppy: Karino Asuna, 25 year old CNS in Seito University Hospital’s first Nurse Practitioner certification program. A cheerful and capable nurse with a kind bedside manner by day, Asuna becomes Poppy Pipopapo by night, a household name in the Japanese rhythm gaming scene for her idol-esque fashion and unbeatable scores.
Asuna found solace in becoming Poppy after the loss of a long term patient who she was in care of daily care for. Asuna was in charge of her end of life care and thought that something wasn’t right but wasn’t able to help her, and was discouraged from finding out more about her death. It wasn’t until she was in charge of another patient who was presenting with the same symptoms, and when two men basically trip over her while she was searching for her runaway patient that she learned the truth of the Bugster virus.
Kamen Rider Hunter: Momose Saki, 26 year old attending surgeon at Seito University Hospital and current Cyber Rescue consultant. Saki is a good surgeon and a mainstay of the hospital, but others find it hard to work with her as she comes off as distant and stand-offish, speaking very little to her interns and residents.
Saki learned the truth of the Bugster virus after her ex-boyfriend Kagami Hiiro succumbed to it. He’d never told her he had been sick as she’d broken up with him shortly before he contracted it, and he thought he would be able to work through it. The last thing he ever said to her was to apologize that he’d never be the kind of doctor she’d wanted him to be. Saki takes her role as a Kamen Rider very seriously, and has been keeping up with any minor outbreaks of the virus since Zero Day very competently. She initially treats Asuna as a subordinate, as she feels like she should be the one bearing the burden of treating the threat as the sole full doctor of CR.
Kamen Rider Taunt: Saiba Nico, 18 year old medical intern and one of the few survivors of Zero Day. Nico is the beloved rookie of the hospital, once being a long term patient returning to do her internship with the doctor who took care of her. She has a long way to go with bedside manner.
At 13, Nico was at the top of competitive gaming in Japan, with sponsorship offers that made it very tempting to stop her schooling before entering high school despite her good grades. Then she contracted the Bugster virus, hospitalizing her and nearly killing her before Dr. Hanaya Taiga saved her life. His body was unable to keep up with the strain of being a Kamen Rider, and he became disabled. He deals with chronic pain that prevents him from working outside an administrative and teaching capacity, but he helped Nico through accelerated high school programs and college, letting her become the youngest intern at Seito University Hospital and the youngest CR consultant.
More notes:
Kuroto switches with his dad so he is in jail. His ultimate goal is still godhood but he’s much better at masking his god complex because he needed to survive in prison. He’s anti-capitalist because he hates his dad.
Kuroto wants godhood so he can bring back his mom from the Proto Gashats and create a world where he controls who lives and dies because they're all data. "I will not let anyone interfere with my eternal stage" etc (you all should watch revue starlight) He and Poppy face off about it and she has to kick him into accepting the nature of life and death.
Emu and Parado are the navigators! The game in CR is Mighty Brothers X. Parado is still Parado but Emu’s name is M, short for Meta. They were born of Patient Zero of the Bugster Virus, the son of the original creator of the virus. Their human names are Hojo Emu and Hojo Nazo because they’re married. Parado only responds to Hojo-san also because he is married.
Kiriya is an AI created by GENM corp to help CR but his data got corrupted by Kuroto right before he got arrested and he loves to act silly and lie. He also is like Bugster adjacent. They put him in Poppy’s bike. He brings Poppy to meet Kuroto by diverting her GPS on her day off and Dan Masamune bricks him in response, until he comes back <3 upgraded <3

Did we all just agree that fem tsukasa would have long hair and a white bow? Well not all fanart I see has super long hair but most of them do have a white bow
Do you think being female would change the horrible fashion sense? I really hope it would but probably not
Would she be a little less pathetic? Maybe I’m a little bias towards women
Would she still have the prince-like costume and play prince characters? I honestly think the prince personality fits tsukasa no matter the gender though I think tsukasa as a princess would still look nice
I imagine guys would see her on the street and try ask for her number or something until they realise she’s loud as fuck
Would her hair be like saki’s or would it do that weird shit like in the anniversary card where it goes blonde to colour to blonde again?

Is Ohba afraid of the fandom he created or is he just homophobic, in your opinion? I just heard that there's a "shinigami can't and don't have sex" rule in Death Note, and if i understand correctly, Ohba made it after learning that some people ship Light/Ryuk or smth?
Also, I heard he made this "L doesn't sleep much and if he does then in the chair" and "L washes in the washing machine" (like wtf) after people started asking him whether Light and L shared a bed or washed together?
I haven't personally heard any of those things myself, and I'd say it's probably fan speculation more than something genuinely confirmed about Ohba and his reasons behind those choices. There is a rule against the shinigami having sex with humans and with each other, though. And I do think that he might've made the rules a bit different about the shinigami if the protagonist was female... as basically every single shinigami that interacts with Misa ends up attracted to her, and 2 of them sacrifice their own lives due to their feelings for her. He also seems to have a really hard time seeing women outside of sexual objectification, or as anything other than intellectually inferior creatures mostly ruled by their "foolish" romantic aspirations, vanity, and emotions. So if Light was a girl instead then I imagine Ohba would write Light being flirty with Ryuk to persuade him into doing things, and Ryuk being really flustered about it. I assume it would be a bit like Saki and her male guardian angel in Platinum End. It wasn't crude or anything, but still definitely showed that Revel is attracted to her and that his guarding of her contains some sort of romantic devotion.
And yeah, unfortunately I would say that Ohba is homophobic in an ignorant and old-fashioned sort of way, judging by some of the stuff that goes on in Platinum End. Especially about guy-on-guy stuff. I don't know if he is afraid of his fans or anything like that, but it definitely seems like he's secretive and reclusive and very hands-off when it comes to interacting with the people who enjoy his stuff.

okay so awhile ago you posted something about Yosuke (crazy, right?) and in the tags I believe you mentioned something about how you don’t like Yosukes parents? Could you elaborate? bc I have not stopped thinking about it since you mentioned it (sorry this is so vague my memory is horrid skjdjfjgj)
OYSUEJGHHBKEJHDSGVDH oh my god okay SO. At first I just got ~vibes~ from him... like, I couldn’t quite pin down what made me think he had abusive parents, because obviously he never says anything to indicate it explicitly, but then I started noticing... small things.
I don’t want to say outright that I think they’re abusive (physically or verbally) and I also don’t think that Yosuke hates them, or necessarily even sees anything wrong with how they treat him, but I do think that their behavior has severely impacted Yosuke and led to a lot of the negative traits he displays.
To me, the most telling example is this conversation where he talks about Teddie being praised by his parents for being “thoughtful” very pointedly in front of him. It seems to be a reoccurring thing where they compare him to other people (primarily Teddie) and make him feel inferior. Yosuke’s a bit of a pushover, and frequently gets taken advantage of monetarily, and in this case he’s caved and lent Teddie a significant chunk of his savings for their trip to Tatsumi Port Island... only for him to spend it on presents to suck up to Yosuke’s parents which makes Yosuke look unthoughtful. Yosuke clearly sees it that way, even if Teddie hadn’t intentionally planned it out from the start as such (he calls Teddie “surprisingly shrewd”).
Tumblr media
Yosuke gets told off either because a) he didn’t want to fight back/argue, and instead just took a passive stance instead of telling his parents that he was the one to lend Teddie the money in the first place, and thus didn’t have any left to buy them gifts, or b) his parents think so little of him that they don’t believe him at all. He specifically says he doubts his parents understand, which makes me think that he did try to explain the situation.
There are also several instances of a large Junes event being Yosuke’s responsibility, or at least of him thinking that he has to scramble to make things work, like the Junes concert, where he says he’ll have to move away if it doesn’t pan out; maybe this is his own thinking, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if it was something his dad said to scare him into helping, especially considering he MUST know that Yosuke is friends with Rise, or the time during the summer where he calls Yu and begs him to help out. Yosuke isn’t a manager, but he’s still got all the responsibilities of one, and even tries his best to work out other employees’ problems as well (look at his SL).
The Junes concert in particular really sent up some red flags for me, especially because Yosuke says this.
Tumblr media
“Awfully nice for some reason”?
Yosuke’s got terrible self-esteem, there are countless times where he’s shown to be overwhelmed and embarrassed by completely genuine praise from his friends. In one of the drama CDs he mentions that he intentionally doesn’t try his best in school because he doesn’t want to disappoint himself by doing poorly while also knowing that he gave his all. It really makes me think that his parents just have an abysmally low opinion of him, and he’s adopted that same view of himself.
There’s also several scenes where he talks about his parents finding his porn (or Teddie showing it to them) and in his SL he says his mom “read the title out loud to [his] family” which on top of obviously indicating his family is pretty conservative about that kind of thing, also means he’s had to learn to be secretive with them to some extent. In Arena, Yosuke’s mother goes as far as burning the porn Teddie finds. Even if it's meant to be humorous, Yosuke's property is still being destroyed.
Now these next few things are more... abstract and can definitely be argued, but personally I still find them important to point out when discussing the topic.
Yosuke obviously struggles with toxic masculinity, and similarly to Kanji, feels like he needs to be the ideal, strong man that protects the weak, etc. Even without looking at specific dialogue, you can tell that Yosuke’s been raised to think he needs to be a “real” man, that displaying more “feminine” behaviors is a sign of weakness; because that isn’t just subtextual, it’s something he very visibly displays, it’s part of his arc. He can’t mourn and cry, he has to get revenge (because he couldn’t protect Saki at the time and he watched helplessly as she died, it makes it his fault), he says hugs are for girls (a common sentiment, but he had to learn it from somewhere), and any time he slips up and reveals his actual feelings, he has to overcompensate, let everyone know that he’s just your average teenage boy who’s definitely interested in women. Yosuke’s not the most masculine guy, he likes fashion and cares about his appearance (the bar is so low) and I’d bet that if he were given space to explore his interests without any expectations, he might actually find he’s into stuff that goes against what he’s been taught. He admits to liking crossdressing, then walks it back; not because he’s ashamed of it (on the contrary, once he realizes people found him cute, he openly brags about it), but because he thinks he SHOULD be ashamed of it.
It’s why he feels so threatened by Kanji, who completely takes him by surprise when he realizes his outer appearance and interests don’t match up. Now Yosuke’s got to compete with Kanji over who’s the manliest, show that he’s not like Kanji, because Kanji’s already accepted that side of himself, and it totally goes against everything Yosuke’s been taught to think is “normal”.
So then we look at lines like this.
Tumblr media
On its own it’s nothing special, but it’s not just the slogan itself, it’s the way that Yosuke specifically says that his dad is still saying it. Combining this with what I mentioned previously about Yosuke’s behavior, and a few other tidbits, like Teddie mentioning that he watches violent war movies with Yosuke’s dad, it definitely makes me think he’s the type of guy who’d try and push Yosuke into being more masculine, being a traditional, unshakable, unemotional man.
Lastly, there’s the recently identified album on Yosuke’s shelf in arena, and what do you know, one of the songs on it (The Chain, by Mr. Big) has these lyrics...
Tumblr media
In my mind, I see Yosuke’s mother as an incredibly controlling, strict woman who expects her son to be utterly perfect, and even when he’s good, it’s never good enough. Yosuke’s father is busy with Junes, and while he isn’t around the house too often, Yosuke sees him at work quite a bit, large and in-charge, not allowing anyone to see weakness, he leans on his son because he can’t bring himself to ask for help. Yosuke’s left to pick up the slack, and he’s taught by example that relying on others is cowardly, that being intimidating gets you further than being “nice”. Even though Yosuke obviously goes against this, he can't fully commit for fear of standing out and disappointing his parents, and that makes him passive; he ends up being a pushover, and neither of his parents are happy about that. He’s a “disappointment” to them, it’s one of his defining traits that everyone loves to bring up. It's something that's shown to really get under his skin, but he can never do much more than get angry, because he truly thinks he is a disappointment, he doesn't think highly of himself, even if he protests.
Maybe I’m reading into all of these things a little too much, but... I don’t know, I’ve said it before, but I just don’t see how half of Yosuke’s personality would have been shaped by anything other than his parents being Not Great.

What are some comedic/ funny cultural jokes that happen Greece (kinda like what are some popular memes or sayings \\ like how in the US we say vine references as jokes)?
Omg I was hoping to get this question!! We are very in touch with US memes and we use American memes and sayings very often. About Greek memes, we mostly make them out of Greek classic series and trashy shows.
We have a show with a host called Anita Pania and “every nut from all kinds of nut trees” (aka weird people) go there. Appearances there include:
the “Star of Sage”
Tumblr media
the “Just Love” man
Tumblr media
the woman who passionately sung “Cobra, you are a Cobra!”
Tumblr media
and many more.
The face of Anita while watching people like these talk is priceless!
Tumblr media
There is another show («Ευτυχείτε») with Katerina Kainouriou as hostess. It’s famous for women calling to have their problems solved. These stories are usually crazy scenarios like “I am pregnant and the father of the child is the father of my husband” etc. We make fun of those stories and also with the crazy astrologist, Mara Meimaridi, who tries to help those women. She is a scammer and delusional but her shade is epic!
Tumblr media
We have videos from the Greek Big Brother show, where people had breakdowns about nothing. It’s truly a treasure of trash <3
The Classic series are mostly from the 90s and early 2000s. These include iconic characters from:
Τwo Strangers (Δυο ξένοι)
Tumblr media
(Τhe Iconic Deny Markora with her big mouth and great burns)
Joy’s Cafe (Καφέ της Χαράς)
Tumblr media
Fatseas, the (trying to be a) know-it-all villager.
Konstantino's and Eleni's (Κωνσταντίνου κι Ελένης)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is a grumpy, overly conservative and narrow-minded Byzantinology professor with a surname of former Byzantine royals. He has written an unpublished book called "The Sewer System in Byzantium", which he regards as a masterpiece. Watch him go crazy for one of the sexiest Greek singers, Sakis Rouvas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Peggy Karra, a completely talentless individual with a dream to become a famous actress. She constantly tries to grasp leading roles at various plays, especially ancient ones. (She brought Antigone and The Bacchae back to fashion with her trashy acting!) SHE IS THE WOMAN FROM MY BANNER :D
In the nick of time / Sto Para Pente (Στο Παρά Πέντε)
Tumblr media
Zoumboulia "Zoumbi". When in danger, she often resorts to religion and when agitated, she emits a high-pitched "iiiii" sound, slaps her lap and sometimes faints. (Υοu can hear the iiiii in these compilations! (Link1) (Link2) )
Tumblr media
Theopoula. A grandma suffering from senility due to multiple strokes, she has flashes of astounding insight and lucidity and does the craziest things. She hates her daughter-in-law for being short. Her most famous phrase is “Can sex ever be stopped???” while hitting drums.
Other stuff:
We have the category of memes “Ancient memes” where we put captions on ancient art and art pieces from all over the world.
Tumblr media
The phrase “Good afternoon” was established to mean “sex” after the host of a PG-13 afternoon show shockingly said “good afternoon!” every time something sexual was on the screen.
You know how English people say “I need this advice for a friend, not me” or “My friend has this problem, not me”. We do it too and we are self concious about it, so we make fun of ourselves by saying “I don’t have this problem, a cousin from the village, you dont know her”
We are making fun of boomers who believe conspiracy theories and don’t know how to spell. (Iliteracy is a real problem. What we are making fun of is the confidence to post “scientific” nonsense) We immitate them by saying "the government sprays us with chemicals, the earth is flat1!one!1" with bad orthography.
In Greece there was a recent Saint/Prophet, (minor) St. Paisios. He had said something along the lines of “It will be like you live in peace but you won’t live in peace”. And so we take that phrase and alter it to fit the circumstances. For example, “It will be like Friday, but it won’t be really like Friday” - and we put an image of Paisios next to the quote :P
That’s the basic ones. Greeks have a rich (meme) culture so I couldn’t include everything. I will probably add more in reblogs later!
