Taisho Era Secret: Yasuo used to have a crush on Muichiro because Tengen introduced Yasuo to all the Hashira. Though, Muichiro never showed much interest in being Yasuo's friend, so he naturally stopped liking him.

BONUS: Yasuo is cis male, but does like girly things and is currently trying to grow out his hair. Tengen doesn't know this yet, but Makio does. (I'll explain how this happens later on!)

I met Fish-Eye in 7th or 8th grade when the company that became Tokyo Pop started a new magazine 'for girls' and included this era of the Sailor Moon manga that had not yet seen the light of day in North America.

Fish-Eye was cute. With hearts in all the dialog bubbles, long nails, high heels, a flowy long ponytail, Fish often did the required evil-doer work in the best dresses in the animated series, had frantic evil crushes on (and then mostly totally enchanted) the male victim characters of the week, and was a man.

At the time, this fascinated me but also caused some dissonance I could not shake off. For a while, I held two different versions of Fish in my head - the real one, and a hetero version who who wore 'male' clothes (I was a very young teen). The latter eventually became an OC I didn't even bother giving a proper name to.

Meanwhile, real Fish-Eye still fills me with such Good Feelings exactly as he is.

my oldest oldest OC is Diana, she's a sailor moon self-insert who's the princess of the entire galaxy (as opposed to usagi's pathetic reign over juuust the solar system lmao) and she was sailor star. To be fair thgouh, I did make her before i saw season 5 and that season ruined my entire lore and I kind of dropped sailor moon for a while after that akjfhkajsf but when i was 9 or 10 i started making this sailor moon season 6 comic where my oc was the main character obviously but i was also obsessed w like 5 other certoons and anime so it just all meshed together. also all the other characters wouldnt stop commenting on my character being sooo tomboyish and how she was seen as one of the boys and one conflict was her not wanting to be girly when she transforms... I WONDER WHAT THAT MEANT FOR ME.........🏳️‍⚧️

my oldest OC that i actually have like. well recorded inspo and history of (drew him lots, still use him sometimes) is saph.

he was my sonic self insert at first. in the very beginning he was sonic's long lost sister ♥ back then he used to work for eggman. also i only knew about sonic from sonic x and only the first 2 seasons existed in germany at the time i watched it, so i thought 1) shadow is one of eggmans minions 2) shadow is an ugly jerk and i hated him lol.

everyone always confusing the giiirl for a boooy and i genuinely got some hate for my character design bc i shipped him w shadow and wow u cant have a homo OCxCanon ship ewww lmao but oh well.

someone once dared me to do a genderbend and then i just changed the color from white to black and they were angry i didnt do a proper genderbend. while the anti version of the character was a proper girly girl with pink and sparkles and smiles and rainbows and skirts and frilly tops and stupid hairstyle. and ppl complained the anti looked more like a genderbend. (below is the "anti". i can't find the genderbend anymore)

for me it just was my first crack in the egg bc hey. i don't want to be preppy, i want to be emo. but im not allowed bc girls are not meant to be edgy. and im notally not projecting on the boy version of this character more than the girl one. nope.

with every year i reduced the hair pieces at the front lmao but ya after my egg cracked i focused more on making him cool andkeeping him gender neutral. Then i used him to prcess a lot of my ongoing hardships in life. the redesign also being bc of a big shift (well. yeah me transitioning socially lmao)

he's unfortunately associated a lot w that painful time so i don't use him a lot anymore

Like Tikki was apparently very different from canon Tikki, she was more optismistic and Marinette was not much of a hard worker that she is now

I do think the Buggettes should be a only girls group,because that was the ideia back them was a Sailor Moon-esque anime,so maybe a honorary male member? Like tuxedo mask was a honorary member to the Sailor Scout group, only appearing one time or another to help

I also think the villain should be Gabriel/Richard with the spider or scorpion jewel instead of the butterfly,because yk,rainbow

Personally though, I rather work off what we got in canon for characters, mostly (as some things can be debated to be OOC as characters will do as the ep demands them to, not whether they would truly do that or not). There's a better idea of who the characters are, and I have a lot more to work off of, especially as I don't know how in depth it goes, and that's essentially kinda making OC characters as chances are good, I'll just have vague details to build and work off of.

And that could be at least 14+ original characters to craft.

Well, I could do it, but this au, I didn't have doing the earlier concepts in mind. I'm more interested in taking the canon take of characters and set up, and seeing how they work off this earlier concept for miraculous and kwamis, particularly them being fairies and not able to make the wish with just grabbing two miraculous.

Also, personally, it doesn't sound like Tikki changed all that much, if at all. As earlier seasons of ML, Tikki was a very positive and optimistic kwami. It's just the later seasons that defaulted her to critical mouthpiece and made her less positive and encouraging. Which did make sense with earlier concept Marinette, who was a lot more problematic so made since for her to have a kwami that calls her out more. But they changed up Marinette so she's not as problematic, but they didn't really change up Tikki or their dynamic, which just makes Tikki come off as overly critical and with high expectations towards Marinette.

And fair! I'm good doing an all girls team, especially as we didn't really get it in canon, not as heroes. And given ML's over valuing the romance, I am in the mood for more friendship focus on the girls and their dynamics, especially as most of it came down to focusing on Adrien.

And I will say, for a Tuxedo Mask character to be an honorary member, Scorpion doesn't have a set place yet, as I would vote Spider!Gabriel, as spiders are more known to catching bugs in their web, and it can work off Gabriel using and manipulating people as spiders are usually villainous tricksters.

Nor am I opposed to still keeping in the kwamis (only they're tied to Prodigious instead of Miraculous) which atm now have a number of 15-16 (depending if I use Longg for Dragonfly, as I don't have an original design for Dragonfly yet that I like yet).

Elias Mavven (from Of Starlight and Beasts)

Description: Elias is a tall young man with sun-tanned skin from his years at sea, and long, sand-blond hair (there is always a braid on his hair, no matter if the rest of it is untied or in a ponytail). His eyes are dark brown. Elias wears a white puff-sleeve shirt, with black trousers, and leather booths, with purple and gold fabric bands around his waist as a makeshift belt - he may or may not occasionally wear a long pastel blue overcoat with intricate embroidering (his attire is very pirate-coded, which, given that he is a pirate, is not surprising). He wears a lot of jewelry, including many rings, two necklaces and golden bracelets - most notably, Elias wears either a choker-style necklace or a fabric bandana at all times (for backstory/spoiler reasons). He is very handsome - caring a lot about his appearance and making sure he makes a powerful impression. He also has some tattoos that he is very proud of - usually in the color blue (especially turquoise), and usually either sea-themed or star/moon-themed. Is rather cocky and confident, though he has an overwhelmingly mysterious, secretive vibe.

Pros -

Will absolutely make sure you take care of yourself - self-care is a very important thing for him - and will not let you spiral too far into negative/self-deprecating self-talk. Is the "mother friend" of the group, subtly, without being overwhelming - he knows how to give people space while also telling them the truths they need to hear, and absolutely loves using humor to cheer up his friends and crew.

The fun-loving life of the party - due to his confident personality (and partially due to his reputation, which impresses people and makes him beloved by most common folk), people usually gravitate to him in social settings. He knows how to have a good time in any situation - be it at a rowdy party in a tavern or while sailing the high seas - to him, any moment is an invitation to live life to the fullest and have fun.

Is very good at cooking, (though terrible at baking lmao), and knows how to perfectly make a variety of rare dishes and adores spicy food - though sometimes his taste when it comes to "how much spicy" can be a bit too much for most.

Although he is one of the best fighters in the realm - in both land and sea - he prefers to solve things diplomatically/through deals and only resorts to fighting as a last resort.

Cares a lot. He makes emotional connections quickly, though he'd hate to admit it, and cares a lot about the well-being of his friends and crew. If he is in love with someone, that tendency creases tenfold, and he will try to make sure that person stays as happy and safe as can be. He is very romantic, in unusual ways, and is more loyal than he gives himself credit for. The well being of his friends and crew are always his priority.

Determined, brave, and witty. Elias has enough determination to last two lifetimes and is not someone to give up on things easily, while also being willing to take risks (both in battle and in normal daily life) without much hesitation. One of his greatest strengths also includes being a great team worker and leader. If you're adventuring together, you would definitely be quite the power couple - unbeatable together, while incredibly soft and in sync with each other.

Badass - knows how to make quite an impression, and is a master at "dramatic entrance", very little fazes him, and he usually remains calm, unstressed, and chill even in the middle of chaotic or potentially stressful situations. If an enemy is actually dreadful enough to manage to get this easygoing, smooth-talking, calm pirate to lose his temper/patience, then they will need one heck of a lot of good luck, because they've just unleashed a tidal wave that will crush them after this feat (as the saying goes, "fear the wrath of a good man").

Normally, he is very carefree, funny, and relaxed - to the point of being slightly reckless. He definitely is the definition of YOLO ("you only live once") in all the best possible ways. Despite this, he knows when to be serious and responsible, especially if it comes to dangerous situations.

Knows a lot of constellations and the stories/tales behind them, and loves to show off this knowledge to someone he cares about. He also has an extensive array of knowledge about sea monsters and the like, a knowledge mostly comprised of encounters that did not go so well.

Elias is the oldest (adoptive) brother to two younger siblings, and it was just the "three of them against the world" for a really long time during his childhood and teen years. This has affected greatly his view of the world and has created some walls when it comes to trusting strangers (he's a bit distrusting/jaded).

His love languages are Quality Time and Receiving Giving Gifts. He likes to make every moment count and make things as memorable as he can in any given moment but also loves simple moments of daily intimacy and love.

Dramatic - likes to put on a show/make a scene. If he wants the last cookie in the cookie jar he will make you reconsider your life choices with how pouty and dramatic he can get to achieve said cookie. The same applies to most situations.

Uses unusual/rare swear words, in the very select occasions he actually swears.

Cons:

Bottles up and internalizes his emotions/feelings like nobody else in the world. He will definitely deflect any questions about how he is truly feeling, when he is upset, with the classic "[chuckle] I'm fine!". Given that he has some serious trauma in his past, this is just a ticking time bomb waiting to explode - and when (not if) those feelings do resurface, it definitely won't be a nice time for him (a panic attack is bound to happen, and most likely in the worst moment possible for it to happen).

Can get "carried away" during battles/fights, like he is in a fighting trance, especially if his enemy has done something to truly piss him off. While this means absolutely no danger for his friends and crew, it does mean he'll become dangerously more reckless (a.k.a. he'll likely get a serious wound and keep fighting like it's just another Tuesday, until he either passes out or someone stops him) and dig himself into a metaphorical hole by provoking more and more enemies.

Wants to handle things by himself all of the time, and has a hard time accepting that even he sometimes needs help.

Gets defensive/temperamental about his past when someone bluntly tries to find out more about it or unintentionally triggers him, which can get him in a really bad mood/sad (which he deals with by isolating himself in his quarters until he's back to his cheery self again).

{{ Okay, here we go. A better/proper post about it. I know, I know. "But you said you wouldn't post--"

I'm breaking it this once. Only this once.

I'm still a reforming sociopath so being sad/sitting with intense feelings is very difficult for me. Concerning the circumstances, I'll try to express myself properly without the fear of "feeling things wrong".

I'm still new to the RPC. I started in March 2023, it'll be a year soon. God, that's so fast. I made minor and major mistakes in the process of learning Tumblr etiquette, but I learned from those instances all the same and nobody heckled me for it. Nobody made fun of me at all. Aside from the one incident I had late last year (it wasn't anyone in this community, though they did have a DBZ character on their roster), I've had ZERO problems with this community. I may be annoyed at stuff I see on the dash, or at highly specific or miniscule things nobody else sees if I ever venture out of my safe bubble, but ... I never felt unwelcomed, excluding my beginning months (which was when I didn't understand Tumblr culture). That changed when I started following and talking to people seriously. Everyone, even the shy people have been nothing but sweet to me and you all still continue to be really sweet and kind to me, even going as far to remind me to take my time when I push myself too hard. DBZ wasn't my first anime (that honor goes to Magic Knight Rayearth, Sailor Moon and Rurouni Kenshin), but it was one of the most influential I've ever watched. Unlike most in the community, I have a tumultuous relationship with the series due to being bullied severely in my childhood/adolescent years. I wasn't "allowed" to like or enjoy it because I was a girl, and it was a boy's show, even worse, it was deemed "white people shit". (Yes, this was said to my face by kids my age).

It was so incredibly dumb and disheartening to never be able to enjoy things because I associated being liked with survival. And yet, I still found a way to enjoy DB in secret. I started with Kai reruns. As you all know, even though I started at the Saiyan Saga, it was the Trunks Saga that truly converted and changed me-- so much so that he's my favorite character hands down, even after all these years. I ended up finishing the entire series on an old computer I no longer have. The pirating website I was using had a little chatbox where people were doing script RP (aka they used asterisks and all that). I thought it looked fun-- so, I made an account, username and joined in. I was a female Saiyan character (because why wouldn't I?) and I discovered the world of RP that way; that's how I started. DBZ is why I'm here with you all. The cycle repeated again and all of my old RP partners were nowhere to be found when I logged in one day. I got bullied again (which deeply hurt and confused me) and verbally/emotionally harassed online until I changed my username and deleted the FC I was using (one of them even told me to uh, you know. Do the opposite of live). I searched online for other RP forums and found them; started on other sites until I found my way to Facebook. I learned I had a knack for describing things, and making wholly unique characters that breathed life into the series they were from. I found my home, you could say. I've been in many other fandoms, made good memories but the majority of them are unfortunately tainted with the cruelty and lack of compassion others had towards OCs, especially of the female kind. Even in the Naruto community years ago, I had been at the end of a "call out/ship-vent" post for something I had no control over (the situation was actually caused by the person who wrote it, worse of all).

When I RPed in the DB fandom on Facebook, the only things that happened were: people's feelings getting hurt when my villain OCs said something rude to their characters (I always, ALWAYS, warned the other person in advance just to make sure they were okay with it), and people (mainly male muses-- canon and OCs) trying to reform them through having crushes on them or being "nice" to them. Romance plots, basically, or hoping for it. Though the latter was sometimes annoying, I managed to have fun, still. (Funnily enough, it mainly happened to the Cyborg/'Android' OCs I had, and not my Saiyans). The former though, kept me away from writing any more villains/antagonists for a long time because I didn't want to harm someone or be the reason they had a bad experience with roleplaying. Quite some years ago, I abandoned it due to life responsibilities and all that. Had to focus on college. I've been doing this since middle school all the way up to high school. I'm 26 now. I've been roleplaying for 14 years. I started when I was 12, at most. That means I've been a fan of this series for that duration of time and even longer since I didn't know RP was a thing. Because of DBZ, I've had long distance relationships. Because of DBZ, I've discovered my passion of writing goes deeper than what I thought it did originally. I even discovered what fanfiction was, through RP. I met people in the past through RP that I've developed crushes on and went on to date online. Met my first cosplay community (when I started cosplaying), made friends with local anime-shop owners before they closed down for good. I had a freaking Future Trunks Funko at one point! And I donated it to the shop because I loved the owners so much that I wanted them to have what personally gave me joy. I tried to write Trunks at one point, tried to cosplay him at another, so on and so forth. As many downs I had being attached to this series, I had more ups-- and gods, were the ups so HIGH. So, I'm much more willing to work with the series and all of the IP, because the truth is, something keeps making me come back. And it sparks my enthusiasm.

I've been told since starting my blog that my enthusiasm is infectious and I'm glad it is, because the truth is: this enormous body of work deserves it. My enthusiasm is because of Toriyama. This blog is here because of Toriyama. No, seriously. He said we never got female Saiyans prior to Super because he never could settle on a design. Growing up, I've been told toxic things about this series (usually from my own ethnic group, immature boys and creepy, grown men), only to find out the dude struggled with indecision! He was just like me at the time-- a freaking panster! Talk about a relief! I belong here!! I've always belonged, as a female fan!! My Saiyans, whether in RP or fanfictions, were female for this explicit reason. Long story short, Maiz is here because he planted that seed. I just took it and ran. As you all know, Maiz originally came from a fanfiction herself but, her current personality, motives and goals came from another character. The version you're seeing and writing with was specifically tailored to the needs of the RPC-- a villainous female Saiyan (with huge amounts of much needed Saiyan lore backing her up). I created this blog with my decade long experience of writing in mind. I wasn't expecting much when my best friend Koji convinced me to try Tumblr RP. I was so jaded. I thank her so much because if she didn't, I wouldn't have refound my drive for this series. My neverending love for various aspects of DB would have just stayed between me and my close irl friends. I wouldn't have met any of you. I wouldn't be here at all, and neither would Maiz. I wouldn't be surrounded by beautiful, amazing people. I wouldn't be as motivated as I am to improve my writing and vocabulary. Just ... Gosh. You guys remember when I said I can't think of Trunks' backstory too hard/too long or I'll get sad and cry? Well. It's moved to "if I ever hear Heroic, Episodic or Heaven Sent Trunks, I'll get sad" now. Gotta laugh at myself a little somewhere. I'm getting better at being okay with being sad. Bare with me. The fact that he based my favorite character on the Terminator movies and Trunks existing was why I even got into sci-fi to begin with (Terminator, Total Recall, Stargate, Star Trek, etc), just makes everything I've been though with this series hurt that much more.

To make matters worse, the first time I ever wrote within the sci-fi genre WAS the fanfiction Maiz comes from. It was a rewrite of DB Super, starting with the Broly movie, so naturally I decided it should be a blend of that and Space-Opera. Sigh. Do you see what I mean? By why this all hurts? I wouldn't be here at all if I didn't take what Toriyama said about female Saiyans to heart. Being told I was taking this IP too seriously over the years has paid off. I'm glad I'm so damn stubborn and resilient. I'm glad I have tunnel vision. Others would've broken if they went through the bs I did. If I had to go get bullied for liking Trunks over Vegeta and Goku all over again, I'd do it knowing what I accomplish later down the road. (But you know, I don't need to be bullied again-- nobody does). There's much more I could say but I'll leave it here as I think this is a full explanation enough. Thank you, Akira Toriyama (and the editors) for the Trunks, Androids and Cell Sagas. I'm glad Western movies inspired you. Finally, thank you for existing.

Logline - With Mai, Hideyoshi, and Aki missing, Mitsuhide and Katsuko reluctantly team up. Disguised as a merchant and his concubine, can they outsmart the man known as the God of Deceit?

Once upon a time, I had been more at home running across rooftops and climbing trees. I would be that person again… if I could conquer the concussion associated vertigo… if I could push back my fear… if…

If…

If I could sneak out of the brig as easily as I snuck in.

It was a task made difficult because while the sailors paid less attention to people passing by above deck, they were more alert to preventing a Mitsuhide jailbreak. From my angle, I would not be able to see their location until they were almost at the doorway.

But… I could hear them. Just as once Aki told me how to listen for a change in the wind, I could listen for footsteps, and count the intervals between their passing. I pressed myself against the wall, watching the sailors patrol past, memorizing individual footfalls, waiting an extra rotation to confirm their timing. And when I made my move, the moonlight and light cloud cover were on my side, allowing me to melt into the shadows, unseen by the sky. After a painstaking creep, I oozed back onto the upper deck, and by the time the next sailor patrolled by, I was once again a boring little moon gazing semi-prisoner. Motonari even nodded at me briefly as he walked past.

Not wanting to obviously deviate from my established routine too much, I retreated to my quarters to await the darkest hours of the night. Once in my room, I temporarily hid Mitsuhide's sash in my bedsheets, while I contemplated another minor hiccup.

Kaya’s clothing would not allow me enough freedom of movement to climb up to the top of the sails. And while stealing clothes from a random sailor was an intriguing idea, it would not be a workable plan. Even if I could manage to take someone’s clothing without getting caught, the uniform might still be missed, and at that point, I would be the natural suspect (and tossed into the brig with Mitsuhide). Not to mention, I was highly unlikely to find something that wouldn’t be too big. Most of the sailors on board were much taller and broader than I.

That left me with the task of altering Kaya’s kimono. It would leave me wearing not much more than a tattered rag and if this captivity thing dragged on much longer there would be a danger of my clothes disintegrating off my body. Of course, I didn’t much like this kimono anyway, and having already suffered one kimono related concussion, I was in no hurry to risk another.

Ok, then, semi-nudity it is.

Continuing the rip that had started the day Motonari had poked a hole in it with his sword, I yanked on the material until the tear spread halfway up the garment. I repeated the process with the inner kimono, using my teeth to get the process started. I put my clothes back on, knotting the jagged ends so that I could stride as freely as I could if I were wearing my male garb. It was indecent to say the very least, and anyone looking at me would potentially see a second moonrise tonight. Of course, if that happened, my butt would be the least of my worries.

Then I wrapped Mitsuhide’s sash around my waist. The light colored kimono would blend into the color of the sails and the sash would like melt into the night sky. Hopefully anyone looking up wouldn’t notice me… or my butt.

As long as you start right now and stop wasting time.

If I was still wandering around when the sun rose, none of this would matter.

In the past seven years, I had climbed hundreds of trees, traversed rooftops in dozens of cities, even scaled countless city walls. Hell, even in modern Japan, I had spent most of my time freerunning across Nagano’s rooftops and snowboarding in the mountains. This, the mast, the sails, were nothing. A tiny head injury was not going to get me down.

Mitsuhide was counting on me.

He believes in me.

As the moon moved beyond the horizon, I took final centering breath and slipped out of the room.

The ship was even quieter than it had been under moonlight. Two sailors were on deck passing away the time playing a game of ban sugoroku by the amber glow of a lantern. Occasionally they would pause, and look out to sea, keeping alert for an attack that they would likely hear long before an enemy ship was in view. Sound carries a long distance across open waters.

Barefoot, I flitted through the shadows, then easily leaped onto the rigging.

I can do this.

The air, the heights had always been my escape. If a concussion induced bout of vertigo defeated me, at least I would die doing what I had always loved.

There you go. Think positive.

And if I splatted doing this, I could return as a vengeful spirit and haunt Mitsuhide to the rest of his days. Picturing my ghostly revenges on Mitsuhide propelled me up, further into the rigging. I would be a corporeal ghost, I decided, and I would short sheet his futon. My ghost self would also ensure that his sake was always at least fifty percent water. He claimed not to be able to taste food. Did that extend to wine? If Mitsuhide had a pet, I would ensure it peed on his sandals daily.

With the hemp ropes rough on my feet and hands, I kept going. It was a familiar roughness… akin to the feeling of bark against my skin. It was the feeling of freedom.  

No need to look down. I'm going up. From this vantage, I could see a smudge of land off in the distance. It was still too dark to tell what was on it, but there was a very faint glow of campfire on the high ground. Was that where we were headed?

Forcing myself to continue, I hurried along, not pausing to take a breath in the crow’s nest. Then to where the rocking of the ship and the brisk wind had me tighten my grip. But I would not fall. I can do this! I've been a daredevil all my life, this is nothing.

Almost there.

With one more deep breath, I gathered my energy and reached the top of the highest sail, where above it, a plain cream colored windsock flapped in the breeze. Motonari flew no clan banner or any other identification, not even a false Nanban flag, and Japanese pirates of course were not familiar with the Jolly Roger. This windsock was the equivalent of driving around with mud covering your license plate.

I settled down on the crossbar of the topsail, while I unwrapped Mitsuhide's sash from around my waist. There wasn’t any simple way to attach it to the mast, so I looped it under the windsock and tied the best knot I could. At the next puff of air, the sash caught a breeze and spiralled out, like a ribbon in a rhythmic gymnast's floor routine. From a distance, anyone looking for it would likely see it, but from below it shouldn’t be visible with the larger and wider sails blocking the view.

Ok. Finished. Now to climb dow-

But one glance under my feet, and the vertigo threatened to take hold again. How long does it take to recover from a concussion anyway? Shit. Motonari likely wouldn’t notice the flag. He sure as hell would notice a half-naked girl clinging to the topsail. I had climbed up. I would have to climb down again.

With the horizon turning a lavender at the edges, I needed to do it fast and quietly... and blindly, because it had been the sight of what was below me that reactivated the nausea. I had climbed up without any physical difficulty, the ropes were within my physical reach without any excessive stretching. I could do it by feel - if I had to. And… I had to.

Ok, I guess we're doing this.

With my eyes tightly shut, I lowered one foot, feeling around until my toe touched the rope. Once one foot was safely down, I lowered the corresponding hand, keeping my stomach flush against the vertical rope. The first few steps were painfully slow, but once I got a rhythm going – foot-hand-foot-hand - it became easier to pull myself into the meditative zen of repetition, enjoy the cool wind in my face, and breathe in and out of the climb.

When I estimated I was three meters from the deck, I paused to double check my progress. Whoa! There was a sailor almost directly under me. He was just standing there, smoking a cigar, and the acrid smell soon reached my nostrils. I froze (as you do).

Move, dammit.

He didn’t move, and I was moments away from becoming a sunrise shadow over his head. That… he would certainly notice.

Move. Move. Move! I am not the droid you are looking for!

My mind control game was useless. It was only when another sailor called out to him, telling him that he was needed to help cook the morning meal, that he finally moved.

As soon as he was gone, I finished my descent, dropped to the deck, and hurried back toward-

"Where do ye think yer going?" Arms crossed, Motonari barred my path. "And where…. where are you coming from?"

"I felt sick and came up for air." Just then, my body made my lie a truth, as the adrenalin, cigar smoke, and vertigo caught up to me. I slapped my hand over my mouth, and rushed to the side of the deck, just in time to empty my stomach overboard.

Motonari eyed me with disgust. "Only you would be so useless that you get sick at calm seas." He scowled. "Ye wouldn’t be carrying the kitsune's brat, would you?"

It took a moment for his meaning any to sink in. "Oh, um, no. Um. The timing is, um, wrong." Couldn’t claim it was impossible without revealing that the entire concubine story had been an act. "Um. Must have been something I ate."

He stared at me for a long moment, while I tried to look equally sick but not pregnant before he finally said, "I'll have Hiroyoshi find out some ginger root for ye to chew on. Go back to yer quarters."

"Thank you.” It sprang naturally from my mouth. Motonari was, well, if you ignored the whole kidnapping of Mai and Hideyoshi and throwing Mitsuhide into the brig (which, technically he might have deserved for threatening Hiko), there was a tiny nugget of kindness in him. Buried deeply under that whole “burn the world” crazy.

Actually he would be easier to deal with if he were pure evil, because I felt slightly guilty about the scam we were running. Not enough to change course or anything. But I was wondering what made him tick, and how to get that clock ticking for the right side. If I could figure out what side that was. "Are ye just going to stand there or are you going back to-"

Boom!

Motonari was interrupted by a roar and a splash. A cannon ball crashed into the ocean right next to the ship, sending up waves that rocked us from side to side. I grabbed onto the closest mast for balance, and hoped that I would not be sick again.

From there several things happened simultaneously, as the sailors sprang into action, running to the bank of cannons while Motonari, after one long hard glance at the approaching vessel, a vessel that was flying a banner of the Oda, pushed past me, shouting orders at a rapid pace.

Knowing that my best course was to get the hell out of everyone’s way, I edged backwards, and slammed right into a familiar body. "I hope that you know how to swim." Mitsuhide’s voice was low in my ear, as he took my hand and pulled me out out of the way of a rope that was rapidly uncoiling.

"Of course I can swi-" was as far as I got before Mitsuhide picked me up in his arms, and jumped off the side of the ship.

I closed my mouth before we splashed into the sea, but I still got a nose full of saltwater.

It took a moment of sputtering as I tried to clear my vision and keep my head above the waves, before Mitsuhide captured my attention again.

He shouted something I could not hear over the waves and the roar of the cannons. Through sign language he let me know where he wanted us to go - toward the smudge of land. Holy hell, that was at least a kilometer away. I could swim, but with my clothes weighing me down, it was going to be exhausting.

With a glare at Mitsuhide and his once again let’s-not-tell-Katsu-the-plan mindset, I took a moment to discard the top layer of my kimono. If the choice is between half naked and fully drowned, I'm going to be the living peep show, thank you very much.

Ok so much better.

Once again I started for that smudge of land, which... did not look to be getting any closer. Waves from the battling ships were making this a rougher swim than I'd anticipated, and the salt water stung my eyes.

Then Mitsuhide tapped me on the shoulder. I couldn't ask 'what' without getting another shot of seawater, so I swam back to his side.

"Kyubei is waiting for us." He pointed to the left, where, in my intent to make it to the smudge of land, I had not noticed the single mast fishing boat floating a few meters away. I looked from the boat to Mitsuhide. He gave me that smirk, a look that was in no way altered by the fact that he was treading water in the middle of the East China Sea. "Dear me, do not tell me you believed I was going to make you swim all the way to shore."

Could he at least have mentioned that before I jettisoned my clothes to the bottom of the sea?

The eighth thing I hate about Mitsuhide – the smirk.

Without a word, I altered my course and headed toward Kyubei’s boat. Annoyance and renewed energy propelled me forward, and a few moments later, I hauled myself over the side of the little sail boat.

“Good morning Katsu," Kyubei said as stoically as if he were greeting me at the gates of a castle, without making an obvious show of looking at my probably transparent inner kimono. He peeled off his haori and wordlessly handed it to me.

"Thank you," I wrapped it around myself as best as I could. Mitsuhide had already found a blanket and was wiping his face and neck and … ok his clothes were clinging to him. I looked away before he could catch me staring. I mean, it wasn’t soaking wet Mr. Darcy striding out of a lake moment, but –

"Everything you requested is under the tarp – as you suggested, Mitsunari was extremely efficient in gathering the supplies." Kyubei and Mitsuhide had already flipped into debrief and tactics, while I was still trying to mentally catch up from my change in status from semi-captive, to swimmer, to whatever was coming next. I risked a peek under the tarp to see if it held any clues to that.

Weapons and provisions mostly. It looked like what generally would be travelling with an army's rear guard. The tarp even turned out to be a tent. Plus there were medical supplies and a familiar pack …"My things?" Kyubei had even brought along my bow and arrows, sword, and Katsu's clothing.

"Indeed." Mitsuhide spoke over my shoulder. "You did once note that in purchasing you, I had access to two spies for the price of one. Welcome aboard… Katsu."

"Thank God. I will be happy to say goodbye to Kaya." Fancy kimonos and elaborate hairdos just weren't me. True, 'Katsu' was as much of a construct as Kaya, but the girl dressed as a boy was much closer to my personality than the concubine.

"Ah. Pity. I will miss her." Mitsuhide drew his finger along the edge of my ear, and I felt a zing all the way to my stomach. What did he mean by that? Did he prefer the ultra-feminine doll he had built for the purpose of investigating the Shojumaru and the merchants of Sakai? Or simply that our time in Sakai had been, as intense as the investigation could be at times, a bit of a reprise from a life that went from battle to battle? And if what was happening further out to sea was to be believed, another battle had already begun.

It was no use asking for clarification. No time for that either. I shrugged of the inner musings, and turned my face to the shore. The early morning sun had already started drying my hair, sealing it to my salt brined skin. As best I could, I finger combed it, braided it out of the way, and tied it up the end with a length of leather I kept in my pack for that very purpose.

Mitsuhide's long dark wig had likely joined my clothing on the ocean floor, and the sea air had fluffed his silver locks around his face.

Locks! Katsuko, stop describing him in the purple prose of a pulp novel.

He and Kyubei conferred about the best place to land the boat, and knowing by now that he would tell me nothing until he was ready, I sat back and munched on a pear I'd rooted out of the supplies.

By midday, we'd dragged the little boat into a hidden cove, one too small to be seen from a distance, and set up a small camp amidst the trees. I had happily changed into warm, dry clothing and was double checking the condition of my weapons. Mitsuhide, after noting it wasn’t protocol and I was intelligent enough to have figured most of it out, allowed Kyubei to quick debriefly on why he'd arranged for our capture.

"Thanks to your information, we were aware that Shojumaru was Motonari, but hadn't been able to establish where he had taken Mai and Hideyoshi or how to get to them. None of the ships in Sakai Harbor were Mouri atakebune so he had to have borrowed, or rented one of the Nanban, vessels." Kyubei dug a small pit and got a cook fire started. “Lord Mitsuhide decided the best way to identify which ship would be to allow himself, er, yourselves, to be captured.”

"During the week that you were recovering, a couple of Oda's vessels sailed to just outside Sakai, but we wanted Motonari to leave Sakai on our timeline not his." Mitsuhide, had also changed clothes and was now wearing the full armor he had worn the day I had first met him. "Now, while our ships keep him busy, we can extract Mai and Hideyoshi." He looked toward the cliffs above us. "That appears to be a logical place to build a fortification.”

I glanced in that direction, and suddenly remembered. “There was campfire up there last night. I could see it from the topsail.”

Kyubei sent a started look in my direction. “You? You climbed up there?”

Finally it was Kyubei who was the recipient of one of Mitsuhide’s teasing looks. “My vassal is not fond of heights.” Then, without another word, he stood up, turned and started walking toward the cliffs.

"Wait! You're not planning to do this alone are you?" After all this, I did not want to be left out at the last minute. Not when I knew I could be helpful.

"So bloodthirsty again?" He turned back and scrubbed his hand over my head. Great, the puppy treatment again. "Relax Brat, I'm only going to do some reconnaissance."

“And if they speak Portuguese? Would it not be helpful to have someone along who speaks the language?” Without waiting for his response, I stood up too, determined not to be left behind this time.

In this, at least, I refused to be his back-up plan.
