when i was very little (like 8/9/10 maybe) my dad & i would read long books out loud at night when my mom was working. (usually sailingbooks because he likes sailing. like horatio hornblower or around the world in 80 days & stuff.) and one of them was the wing-and-wing by james fenimore cooper! which if i remember correctly was this delightfully dense (1850s) sea novel w/ heavy themes of like, italian politics and religiosity and tragedy. but the most vivid thing i remember was thinking the name wing-and-wing was the most lovely ethereal thing in the world. and the cover was this beautiful faded sunset colored watercolor of a wing-and-wing lugger (that is, with a sail out on both sides, like wings) with her sails illuminated in the sunsetlight & gilt on the title. and i would just sit on the bed and look at it sometimes and i thought it was the most beautiful wistful thing i had seen.
