And every time Cas would wind his arms around his neck and kiss him, kiss his graying hair, the wrinkles around his eyes from smiling, and would always save the lips for last.

Or Dean is old and Cas can tell that Dean won’t be here much longer

Christmas things that I think Team Free Will would do

- Jack and Sam would decorate the whole bunker (Dean would say that it looks like Santa threw up in there)

- Even though Jack knows that Santa isn’t real, Dean, Sam, and Cas would put presents under the tree for him from Santa.

- Dean would make an exception for Christmas music in the bunker only on December 24th and 25th.

- Sam and Cas would try cooking a big breakfast Christmas morning, but they’d burn almost all of it.

- Dean hangs up mistletoe in the Dean cave and in the doorway of his and Cas’s room so they have an excuse to kiss.

- Sam and Eileen wear matching ugly sweaters.

- Cas gets asked questions about Christmas lore related to heaven. He dodges every single one to not take away from the mood.

- Dean and Sam put small pictures of everyone that they lost on the tree. (Bobby, Ellen, Jo, Crowley, Gabriel, etc)

- Dean and Cas are very lovey-dovey with each other during the holidays.

- They all make Christmas cookies together. Cas gets flour all over his trench coat so he has to take it off. Jack and Dean both sneak a lot of dough. Sam makes a gingerbread house.

- Cas would decorate his wings on the 25th. (Dean would take a lot of joy in taking them off when they’re done)

- Sam takes videos and pictures of all of them.

- Dean makes dirty Christmas puns at Cas when Jack’s out of earshot. “E.g. why don’t you come and suck this candy cane, honey?)

Silly cute little headcanon that Sam worked really hard on learning correct sign language so he could talk more with Eileen, especially without people eavesdropping. It took him awhile and a decent amount of coaching from her before he finally learned to perfect it.

Blurry Wife is Eileen.

One of my favorites is the headcanon that Sam speaks Enochian fluently after the Cage. And perhaps in tandem with that - time runs faster in the Cage than in the rest of Hell.

I agree, they definitely would have had a connection there regarding that empty spot where their parent(s) should have been. And being raised to be a weapon, and wanting something else but finding out that "this was all they really knew".

It's honestly one of the reasons why I think Eileen could have been the "blurry wife". I've seen a lot of people dismiss her as an option because "she was a hunter and wouldn't have wanted to give that up" but like, was she a hunter because she loved it? Or because it's what she'd always known and trying for something different was a leap that may have felt a bit scary? But they seemed to understand each other on a deep level. Maybe they connected again over that, over that prospect of trying to start a life from scratch. This time knowing that there was no omnipresent force out to make sure their lives stayed "interesting" and just maybe they could make it work.

Anyway, sorry if I took this off on a tangent, but yes! I definitely think they found a lot of common ground.

Do you think Eileen and Sam bonded over losing parents to supernatural creatures and not feeling any differently after the monster is dead. Especially in the sense that Sam didn't know his mom, and Eileen didn't know either of her parents. I'm sure in their childhoods they mourned the loss of their parent(s) that they were told to mourn but at the end of the day, they were just told stories about these people. They had no emotional connection and it's not their fault, they were taken away from them too soon.

ok but why did the spn writers choose "eileen is deaf but she can lip read perfectly well 100% of the time which is not only nigh impossible but probably super draining and taxing on her mental health" when they could've gone with the infinitely superior "eileen is deaf but sam knows sign language so he translates for her sometimes which inevitably leads to dean teasing him for the most embarrassing things in front of her and sam gives him *the* look as if to say 'dude!! in front of eileen??" only to realize she didn't catch any of it so he has to slowly turn to her with his head hung low while he explains to her in ASL about the time he was scarred for life in his late 20's because a clown sprayed him with water"

I wonder if I see things a little differently from most people WRT relationships, or if a lot of people are voting for the worst shippers rather than the worst ship. Because, while I don't see all the much-vaunted romantic chemistry between Dean and Cass, at least they do, more or less, like one another as people. It's theoretically possible that Dean could get bored/frustrated enough to take a handjob from Castiel-wearing-Jimmy. (I know, problematic, but Dean didn't see anything wrong with taking Cass to a brothel, so there's precedent for Dean not considering the vessel issue problematic.)

Currently, the second-ranked ship here is Samifer. That one has canon support, from "M.F.E.O., literally" in season 5 to "Upper bunk, lower bunk, or... share?" in season 11. It's creepy (esp. when Jared is both delivering and receiving the lines), but if your definition of "good" excludes all creepiness, then why would you even watch SPN?

The het ships on the list all strike me as on some level plausible. Maybe you need a headcanon to explain why Sam stops looking for Dean between seasons 7 & 8, or how Dean and Lisa afford to move twice, or how Sam and Eileen untangle the "real" aspects of their relationship from Chuck's manipulations. I don't ship Samelia or Saileen or Deanlisa. But I don't look at any of these pairings and think that there is no way in Hell that the characters involved would willingly touch one another, either.

For me, the worst ship, based on just the show (and esp. if you favor the Kripke era) is, hands-down, Sabriel. Gabriel makes Sam watch Dean die 100 times in a row, then keeps Dean dead and "doing the hellfire rumba" for another 6 months. He drives Sam to the point where he's willing to drain the blood from an innocent civilian if it helps stop him. I could buy that Gabriel would coerce Sam into sex as some sort of trickster-y mind game. I'd even read the fic! However, as it exists in fandom, the ship seems to spawn mostly fluffy fics and "headcanons" where Gabriel is some sort of protector or they bond over their shared trauma. I find this nonsense unreadable (and, in the case of season 13, nearly unwatchable).

hello here’s a list of things i see this with. for fun

-constantly making jack’s parents dean and cas. in fanart, in headcanons, even just talking about the show. but when jack himself considers dean, sam, and cas to all be his dads, and when destiel isn’t incompatible with that, what is the benefit of breaking apart that canon family structure to make it just 1 couple + a kid?

-there’s a s13 scene where dean talks to sam about going to the beach someday: “you, me, cas.” when people draw this, they draw dean and cas at the beach; when people talk about dean finally getting to go to the beach, they talk about dean and cas going, or dean and cas and jack going, or dean & cas and sam & eileen going… as if dean didn’t say he wanted it to be all three of them, or as if it’s impossible to conceive them all going on vacation together without everyone being in a couple. i promise you that dean going on a vacation with both sam and cas does not preclude destiel. it’s okay. family members go on vacations together it’s okay.

-destiel saileen double wedding. well just kill me now really

-the oft-discussed/assumed idea of in the future, destiel living together and, separately, saileen living together. in houses next door to each other or just wherever. it is SO rare to see anything with dean and cas and sam all living in the same house post-canon. and yet…why not? no, seriously. they’ve all died for each other multiple times, they’ve all lived together for forever, and you have to stick them in separate houses? and i can understand the point that sam and dean could use some distance from each other, but when dean and cas’s relationship is also weird and unhealthy, and when dean likes being around both sam and cas equally, i wonder if that’s actually where everyone that does this is coming from.

-well. saileen. if someone’s talking about sam and eileen being together, they’re talking about saileen. if someone’s talking about dean and cas and they add saileen in there, it feels less like they’re talking about saileen and more like they’re just having everyone be in pairs because why wouldn’t everyone end up in pairs? why would there be any reason for them to not? and eileen’s right there, so why wouldn’t it be her? but it doesn’t make sense for that to be the default, especially not for these characters. it just doesn’t

i do think that in a lot of contexts breaking tfw into destiel and saileen comes from a place of allonormativity and actively goes against the found family dynamics essential to these characters
