#tbt to visiting the mysterious Gokōnomiya Shrine (御香宮神社) in the Fushimi Ward of Kyoto with @life_for_pianos and my host mother from Nara, Kiku! This Momoyama-style shrine has been famous for its pure spring water since 862 and has come to be a place to pray for safe childbirth. We filled a few bottles up of the delicious spring water to take home and the local sake breweries rely heavily on this water for their products. Toyotomi Hideyoshi transferred lots of wood carvings and art to here after Fushimi Castle was destroyed, so the detailed decorations here are unbelievable. The wildest discovery here was the presence of two giant Sago Palm (Sotetsu) trees near the main shrine.
