"damn, i wish i had time to do that too," she comments, sighing and she really does miss skating as often as she used to. next gen had sucked up all of her time and now that she's a trainee, she's not sure how many chances she'll get to board anymore. hopefully a bit more before the summer is over though, since she still has some free time on sundays.
as long as she doesn't hurt herself, she's technically still allowed to skateboard whenever she can.
she lets out a laugh when he pushes her shoulder, dramatically stumbling backwards as if he had really pushed her hard. "okay, okay, fine, let's take one right now then," saea teases, rolling her eyes playfully as if he had really twisted her arm for this. she reaches out to take his arm, tugging him closer so she can get them both in frame for the selfie. "also, you know, i guess it's survivor's guilt in a less intense way," she adds, trying to explain the weird feeling in her chest when it comes to how she had been chosen and a handful of her friends and favourite people had not. including stevie, of course.
she makes sure her board isn't rolling away or anything before she looks at the screen, grinning in a way that made her whisker dimples show up.
"on three okay?" she warns him, before she counts, trying her best not to move her mouth from the smile, and then also snaps about ten more pictures, the shutter sound going off a few times as she brings the phone closer and closer to their faces.
"god, these are terrible," she comments, her tone full of mirth as she looks through the blurry pictures she had taken.
besaea:
fame < infamy
“it’s my favourite picture of you,” she says solemnly, mock seriousness in her tone as she salutes at him. it’s a great thing to wake up to, considering the first thing she does in the morning is check her phone. maybe she’ll convince him to take a selfie with her to replace the picture—but at the same time, she doesn’t think anything could get better than this picture. one day she’ll use it in a powerpoint presentation or something, just to say that this is one of her best friends.
the thought is an amusing one.
his shriek pulls her out of any thoughts she has on a future powerpoint presentation of their friendhsip, not even sure when she would get to showcase that, and saea’s expression is fully alarmed as she reaches out to steady him, hands gripping at his shoulders in her panic. “oh my god,” she exclaims, expression going from worried to playfully annoyed in a second and she slaps his shoulder. “you almost gave me a heart attack.”
she can understand though—it’s been a while for her too, but she hasn’t fallen yet. she sticks her tongue out at him playfully, “i was going to ask you to take a selfie with me for a new lockscreen but now i dunno if i want to.” she shakes her head, putting her foot on her skateboard and frowning slightly. “a bit,” she admits, knowing she could trust him with this. “i’ still kinda confused that i was chosen at all, ya know?”
stevie gives saea a long, incredulous stare, before barking out a laugh. “your favorite? when i have so many good ones…” he gives a heaving sigh, playful and dramatic, smile budding on the corner of his mouth. he’s not too torn up about it. as the sting of next gen fades away – it is pretty funny. he’s glad at the very least she can find humor in one of the most embarrassing and televised moments of his life.
the scare of almost falling causes a rush of adrenaline to fuel through him. he gives a little laugh, sheepish at the sight of saea’s annoyance. “sorry– ouch!” he rubs at his shoulder, still shaking with amusement and adrenaline. “i wasn’t looking where my feet were going! dude, i’m still trying to regain my skating feet and not my dancing feet.” saea doesn’t need to know how many embarrassing crashes he had on his board the first week he was free from next gen.
“huh? wait, what– you still can! what did i do?” he sputters out with a laugh, reaching out to gently shove a hand at her shoulder. as he steps back a bit (this time triple checking for his board– no more close calls!), going quiet when saea speaks up. his brows furrow, head tilting to the side. “what are you confused about?” stevie asks, scratching the side of his head. “you’re cool and fun! you’re nice! are you trying to fish for compliments?” he switches languages easily, lightly joking. “i mean– you did great all during it.” stevie hums in thought. he has no clue what makes companies decide who gets the contracts and who doesn’t– but saea had hit all the points they were having them focus on.
#bexstevie#( tumblr is being mean and wont let me trim the post </3 )#( thr _ fame < infamy )#( also i apologize for saea being who she is )

post-next gen stuff !! :D
YAY TO EVERYONE WHO GOT A CONTRACT!!! i had a ton of fun during next gen even if i was stressed but still! enjoyed it nonetheless :) like carly mentioned in her post, i’m in the same boat where a lot of my threads are really old/not relevant anymore so i’ll also be dropping all previous threads (though i already reached out to those who i wanted to keep threads with) i would love to plot with everyone !! especially trainee threads ... once i figure that out
i’m going to put a small update about both my muses below bc spoiler alert!!! saea signed her contract to sr media (HER DREAM COMPANY) and haneul is business in the front party in the back aka happy for his friends who got signed but is sad he did not get an offer
SO ONWARDS
HANEUL
( pictured above, a real message i sent seojun mun HAHAHA. )
so haneul is .... very sad. actually. he thought maybe because he had performed well and had only improved in ranks that he was almost guaranteed an offer. he didn’t expect to get top three but he didn’t think he would get bottom three. while he’s pretty sad about it, he’s not going to show it and take everything gracefully. like genuinely, he’s not going to show that he’s sad until he’s home by himself. i’m going to write a solo about his mom finding out about the show and her calling him within the next while (hopefully) and we’ll go on from there!
SAEA
she’s honestly????? shocked????? she literally signed up for next gen last minute and probably submitted her audition like 10 min before the deadline bc she was like ??? doing it for teh lolz and now she’s somehow ended up at her dream company? she’s signing the contract for sure (i already submitted it LMAO) so!!! she’s celebrating!!! though she’s kinda upset cam didn’t get a contract tbh </3 but she’s excited for her new life as a trainee! she’s pretty hype honestly, and she’s sad she probably can’t busk anymore or work at the dance studio ... mixed emotions, but overall she’s elated and can’t wait to start life as a trainee :)
#yes i am copying carly no i am not ashamed#( ooc. )#( tldr pls plot w me )#( i am still reeling from results )

a starter for @benayoung !! ( you’re crashing but you’re no wave )
it takes yuji until dinner to get the courage to approach nayoung-- not that she’s scared or displeased to. she’s more concerned with the fact a., the last time they met was a bit of an awkward mess that yuji feels lightly embarrassed about, and b., the image that was edited of her in next gen, or at least the few clips she saw. sure, mnet does have a habit of editing just for the sake of drama, but yuji has a feeling it’s not super exaggerated.
or maybe she’s projecting her worries. saea and nayoung’s being chosen by sr media feels like a pointed choice, but nothing’s really changed-- catastrophizing and speculating is all she can do when suddenly there’s more girls around and the tensions rise with rumors of a potential debut.
even if they’re all, in a sense, fighting for spots on a debut team-- they’ll still have to get along if they land it. so yuji takes a deep breath and steers her way to where nayoung’s sitting in the cafeteria during dinner. she pauses by it, hovering, clearing her throat as she shoots the girl an awkward smile.
“hi,” she greets, shifting her balance to her other foot restlessly. “congrats on landing a contract.” yuji says, the fingers on her right hand drum on the side of her tray, eyes flickering over to the open seating, then back to nayoung. “do you mind if i sit here?”
#🌧️ THREAD ;#🌧️ TRAINEE ;#p: you're crashing but you're no wave#benayoung#may:23#( hope this was okay <3 )

talk that sh—!
@hangyeolbe
saturday night. it's probably not the best idea for a rather new trainee to spend the evening in a club known for its male dancers, but it's not like jinyoung is someone anyone cares about yet anyways. no one is even going to notice him here, except for maybe some fellow patrons who take interest in any good-looking, fit young man like himself. plus, his intentions for the night are purely innocent; he wants to catch up with an old friend. it's thanks to hangyeol that jinyoung was even able to sign that contract in the first place; it wasn't humanly possible to start the music and the recording from a shitty iphone 6 no matter how much jinyoung tried to film all those audition tapes alone.
even for a weekend, the club is busy, and jinyoung has to wriggle his way through the crowd to lean up against the bar, grinning as he meets the eye of his favorite ex-coworker. or, at least, he'd tell him that he's his favorite; it fluctuated at times, if he's being honest. saea was pretty good too.
"heyyy," jinyoung grins as he catches hangyeol's attention. "long time, no see, right? glad i can still find my way back here after all this time." it's been a little over a month, but jinyoung does have a tendency to be a little dramatic. somehow he knows that's fine with hangyeol, who should be well familiar with his theatrics by now. they only worked together for who knows how long. "do i still get free drinks here? i'm still broke. would you believe how shit the pay is at my new gig?" he laughs, comfortable with an old friend immediately as if they had never spent any time apart at all. he can only assume that hangyeol feels much the same.

GO, GO, LET US PUT ON A SHOW moon saea performs paint the town with @behyejin, @bechaeyeon & @noelxbe
the whole merger thing is kind of interesting for sea. considering she's only been in sr media for a few months before it, she wonders what's going to change over time. thankfully, the group is had been given is one with people she actually really likes.
chaeyeon had been one of the first people who had approached her when she first stepped into the building as a trainee, and noel and her had had fun during next gen, considering they had spent a good while accusing each other of being spies. and lastly, of course, hyejin was there and she always had a good time with her best friend.
honestly, this whole thing was great just because she got to spend more time with the older girl. it felt almost like when they were in the same group during next gen again.
but the difference now is that they have to be good, right? she has a feeling that they've all been thrown together like this so that the companies can assess who needs to work on what. she also wonders—despite knowing it's much too early for her—whether this will start determining who is going to debut. it's kind of fun for her to see how hard everyone is working and how serious they are, so saea knows she needs to as well.
the song they had chosen is one that saea already knows the dance to, though she's a bit rusty at it. it's different relearning it in a more technically point of view, considering how she originally learned dances was just for visual impact and to be able to interact with the crowd during busking.
ptt is a fun song and it's right up her alley when it comes to the image that she wants to give. that's why she had auditioned with a boy group song, after all. she had always considered her strength to be in boy group songs, but ptt had a similar vibe to the songs that she liked. hopefully, she wouldn't let anyone down.
she had gotten most of the rap parts, along with a few singing lines that she had asked for in hopes of showing that she really could do all three. she was already confidence in dance and in rap, and had currently been working on singing and this was the perfect opportunity for her to show it. chaeyeon got the high notes, of course, but saea had received one of the killing lines and she did her best to portray it the way that she thought it should be.
once the song is over, she holds the serious expression on her face until everyone else starts moving out of their ending poses and she bows and thanks everyone, pleased with how she had done. hopefully, she proved that she was doing well in her training.

noel hadn’t expected to see familiar faces from next gen so soon. something during the show made him wish they could all be trainees together, obviously that didn’t make sense, but then suddenly axis labels came around. noel was slowly getting used to practice in lime entertainment, he was slowly getting used to the familiar faces around him, axis labels was a surprise to him. none of the other teammates were from lime, so he was not just the only male in the team, he was the only lime trainee too.
he’d surprisingly met all of his teammates before, hyejin ( @behyejin ) before next gen, saea during next gen, and a short meeting with chaeyeon once. it was nice having familiar faces around. he sits himself next to hyejin, beginning to stretch even before he speaks to the other. “you’re pretty good at both singing and rap aren't you?” he sends the other a smile. “do you want to go over my lines with me? i’d like to hear someone else’s opinion”.

♡ Reflection: hyejin looks back on the final episode and her performance of tales of the unusual ♡
talking a deep breath, hyejin feels the adrenaline finally leave her after the performance. she already cried during all this so she wasn’t about to again. if anything she’s sort of relieved. sure she loved getting the chance to perform like this with everyone. plus getting to interact with saea more wasn’t something she was ever against. they’d have to hang out more after their time here if they could. her mind is wondering how the finale verdict will be. sure she’d love a chance to be signed on as a trainee but she’s not going to sit here and get her hopes up. if anything she’ll keep improving and hope for a chance to audition in the future if she doesn’t make it.
walking into the room, she bows politely to everyone there, a smile on her lips. this will be her last time in the room and it does hit home a bit. maybe after she can plan that trip back to australia to see her family though that depends on the results. sure she can have them visit her but right now she knows her father and sister have been pretty busy themselves so she’d have to see. she misses her friends back home, it had been too long. for now, she clears her mind and gets ready for the interview.
what was the greatest challenge during this mission?
the question is something she has heard countless times being on her but she’s ready to answer it like she did in the past. she knows there weren’t too many struggles but there was always something that came to mind.
“hmm, maybe making sure we weren’t too creepy for our performance,” she giggles. “no but really. i think just staying in the character i wanted to convey for the performance was a bit hard. i haven’t had to do that in awhile so my mind wasn’t ready for it. i did my best, wanting to add to the concept we were going for and i couldn’t be more proud of myself.”
do you feel confident in your performance?
“i do!” she beams easily. “the song, the visuals and outfits we decided to go for were way too perfect. i’m forever thankful that saea had such great ideas. plus i’m confident we all flowed well together with our performance. i hope that conveyed well with the judges. i just know this song was a great for my final performance here. i couldn’t be happier.
any of the songs would have been amazing but tales of the unusual was what she had been eager for and was glad the fans voted for her to have be able to perform this song along with her teammates.
were you happy with your group for the finale?
she nods her head before answer. “i was. i got to be beside some amazingly talented people who i’ve seen delivered so much during performances i knew we would crush this. besides i like working alongside saea. she’s definitely someone i know i can always get along with no matter what. so i’m glad i got the chance to work with her again.” she feels her smile spreading more as she looks at the camera as if she is looking at her best friend.
how do you feel about your overall performance for next gen?
thinking it over, hyejin knows there were a few fumbles but she knows she’s overcome that in her own way even if it didn’t show that well at times. “i think i’ve actually gotten better from the beginning and from the other performance where i faded away. i’ve tried my best with the last performance to shine and i feel i did that well. i’m glad for everything i’ve learned and have definitely taken all the advice in. hopefully all that advice has shown with this final performance.”
after her final answer, she gives a bright smile before getting up and bowing to them all again. she makes her way out of the room and lets out a sigh of relief. she loved her time here and can’t wait to see the results and what the judges think about everything. she can only hope for the best.

joomi is tired.
luckily, they’re nearing the end of next gen, and joomi is ready. he, surprisingly, has grown to enjoy and appreciate this experience, but at the end of the day he is still not built to spend this much time dancing and performing. maybe he belongs on the stage; this show is starting to make him consider it, but he still doesn’t think he belongs in a kpop group. he misses playing the piano, and the shitty bars his band used to play in, even if he doesn’t miss his band’s lead singer, or any of the members of the band, really.
he doesn’t really have room to think about any of that, though. first, he needs to get through the finale of next gen, and he doesn’t even think about what he’ll do if one of the companies wants to sign him right now. every time his mind drifts there, he forces himself to focus on the task directly in front of him, because he has a feeling that subject in particular is one he could spiral about. he’s perfectly aware he still has a(n un)healthy dose of imposter syndrome, and he has no clue what he wants out of life.
he wants to do well, though, if only for the rest of his team, and that’s enough for now. maybe performing frost and their team winning got to his head, but he actually kind of believes they might be able to win this, too. he already won an episode with jinyoung, and saea was so good that she was the center for my turn. hyejin hasn’t received too much attention throughout the show, but she’s a solid performer, so...it’s possible, right?
jinyoung is making it look a little less possible, though. not that jinyoung is bad; no, that’s certainly not the case. there’s just something...off about him, this week in particular. maybe joomi doesn’t know him well enough to make that claim, but he also feels like he kind of does. he also knows he’s seen him take about one solid break the entire time they’ve practiced tales of the unusual, so his guess is that he’s just running out of steam and trying to push through it. joomi kind of suspects jinyoung doesn’t even realize he’s doing it, too.
they’re running through the choreography together, and jinyoung still ultimately runs laps around joomi, but he also makes uncharacteristic mistakes, then gets frustrated, and wants to start over. joomi humors him for a while, until he eventually identifies the process is not productive at all.
“hey, stop for a sec,” joomi tentatively puts a hand on jinyoung’s shoulder, as if that’ll do something to get his teammate to listen to him (it probably won’t.) still, he asks, with genuine concern, “are you okay?”

a starter for @besaea !! ( all this effort to make it look effortless )
with the finale of next gen up, it becomes a waiting game. each morning is spent scanning over the familiar faces of her training group to see any new ones. she’s unnecessarily tense about it-- but change is happening and yuji has to be ready for it. even though she knows all of them, some way or another-- the appearance of them instills a sort of prickly feel in her that won’t go away until the wait is over.
and she doesn’t wait long at all. the new additions faces are some of the first she sees in the morning-- but she waits until long into the day to garner up the courage to approach. when her mind is more awake, her thoughts more in order; when there’s a bit of a moment to breathe between lessons. approaching sarang is easy enough, comfortable and familiar.
the girls are a little more difficult for her-- just in the nature of the training atmosphere and yuji’s overthinking mind of a potential debut on the rise. but in the end, yuji decides to go with saea first. comes up to her slowly in the lull of things and holds an extra water bottle out to her, reminiscent of the first time they met. “isn’t this a small world,” she muses, offering a small smile when their eyes meet. “hi. congrats on your contract.”

don’t close your eyes. don’t fall asleep. moon jinyoung performs tales of the unusual with @besaea, @bejoomi, & @behyejin for next gen finale
this is it. in front of a live audience, the fate of moon jinyoung’s oldest and most carefully defended dreams will be decided. there’s already cold sweat down his back, perspiration he desperately tries to replace as he gulps water backstage. makeup feels heavy on his face, the blood and gore mixed into this concept feeling too sticky, too thick, too much. or maybe it’s just that he’s extra sensitive right now. really, all jinyoung wishes is that he felt better prepared.
it’s not that he hasn’t practiced. no, he’s done nothing but practice over the last several weeks. but it was never right. it was never as perfect as he hoped it would be. desperation and distraction had been his enemies and basic self-care put on a back burner as he instead focused on perfecting every little mistake he made over and over and over. he’s still not certain he’s at the level of consistency he’d like to be at this point. but there’s nothing more he can do.
he glances at his teammates. are they feeling as desperate as he is? hyejin, saea, even joomi... jinyoung has the sense that it’s his responsibility not to let them down either. he’s used to failure, rejection. are they? as much as he wants this, he knows how to pick himself up and recover and try again another day. do they? joomi might be, he thinks distantly. saea and hyejin he genuinely doesn’t know.
maybe it’s strange to care about others at this point in the competition. there’s only one winner, but jinyoung doesn’t think he’d care whether he got to choose any company or only one wanted him. it’d still be a step in the right direction. but all that said... there’s still the chance of no one actually wanting him as a trainee right now. he’s a good dancer, he knows that much, but his muscles are sore and achey from weeks of relentless rehearsal. he’s learning to be a better singer, but is he good enough? he’s not so sure.
when their team is called up to the stage, he feels the anxiety take root in his gut. as much as he tries to swallow it down, breathe it out, it remains. silently, he reaches for the nearest hand next to him, not really paying attention to who it may be. he squeezes it, reassurance to himself, and tries to remember not to chew his lipstick off of his face with his nervous habits.
the stage, the lights... it’s everything he’s ever wanted. but this could very well be his last chance, his last performance on this scale. if that’s the case, then jinyoung needs to make it count.
but he really can’t remember what happened up there.
it’s like he went into autopilot, like his brian completely shut off to save him from the stress he puts on himself; the need to be better than perfect, so good that the audience can’t help but vote for him and the judges have to want him in their companies.
all he knows is that he made it through without injury and out of breath. he can feel in his throat that he was singing his hardest— but was it good? he can feel in his limbs that he pushed himself with each move, but were they done on-beat and correctly? the audience cheers around him, the sound deafening, and he manages to smile, still breathless, and wave to the mass of screams and glimmering lights. he presses a hand to his forehead, wiping the sweat from his brow. hopefully it was enough.
