Coming in strong we’ve got spinosaurus. He is SO SCARY and EVIL LOOKING and he is a LOVELY BEAST. Also I don’t think those who know of this dinosaur fully grasp how giant this dude was. He was like 25 feet tall. Twice as tall as a Tyrannosaurus rex. He is five times taller than me he would eat my family I love him. Also, he was probably semi-aquatic. Pretty swag

Next up is my best buddy the ankylosaurus. People NEVER talk about my little guy over here. He is so underrated compared to others like the triceratops, this makes him sad. GIVE HIM LOVE NOW. He is just a big ox mixed with an armadillo to me and I want one as a pet. Just a big old boulder with a spiky back and little horns and a mace for a tail. He could instantly shatter my bones but I don’t care. He’s my best friend, he’s my pal, he’s my homeboy, my rotten soldier, my sweet cheese, my good time boy

You ever see a frog and say “damn I wonder what it would be like if that thing was almost a foot and a half long and weighed as much as my cat.” Well they used to be like that. And they were called BEELZEBUFO. Which deadass just means Devil Frog. Cool as fuck. Also they ate small dinosaurs like microraptors sometimes when they weren’t eating other tiny baby animals. It may or may not have been venomous and/or poisonous. We don’t know that much sadly. But look at this FAT FUCK I love him. Big ass frog

AND NOW. Time for my favorite fish and prehistoric creature of all time. The man of the hour. Motherfucking COELACANTH!!!!!!!!! This fish became a “spin-off” special interest following the dinosaurs so I’m mostly just using this as an excuse to rant about him. This bad boy fooled scientists into thinking he went extinct until they were officially recorded around 1940. BUT MY BOY SURVIVED IN SECRET SINCE BEFORE THE DINOSAURS WERE HERE!!!!! OVER 400 MILLION YEARS THIS DUDE SURVIVED IT ALL!!!!!!!! And he has pretty little blue spots!!! He also has EIGHT FINS TOTAL!!! And lives in the really deep parts of the Indian Ocean and I wanna give him a little smooch because he is my best friend but alas. I cannot swim and he cannot breath air. May we meet in another lifetime in spirit, he is such a gentle soul.

but sadly i cannot cheat like she can , and i will have to sacrifice this animal lovers welfare to answer this , rest in piss heidi  -  i think over all, her favourite would be any sort of bird ; there are three specifics that come into mind and that’s crows , eagles  &.  hummingbirds .  the latter i think is one that's held dear to the heart . hummingbirds have such a range of colours when it comes to their feathers , they’re small and delicate but they’re still feisty and have a lot of soul and spirit within them . she absolutely grows up and gets a hummingbird tattoo on her upper arm. i think she sees an old piece of herself within them, a wholesome purity she lost when she was younger .

In which Riddle can't just idly watch as (Y/n) fails in her Animal Language class; so, he decides to kindly offer his help to her, like the good upperclassman he is.

Their tutoring sessions take place in the Heartslabyul garden with the flamingos.

Sadly, (Y/n) is so bad at animal language that she accidentally asks a flamingo if he wants to marry her, which gets Riddle jealous.

"I apologise for saying this, Ms. (L/n), but you are absolutely hopeless with Animal Language. You cannot seem to understand the difference between a 'meow' and a 'meow'."

Trein's usually so stern and hard eyes were slightly softened as they bore into yours with such an intensity that you felt your stomach churn. The wrinkles on his aged face were especially visible with the big frown he wore, an expression induced by you and your inability to understand simple animal language.

You furrowed your eyebrows and threw your hands into the air. "Professor Trein, those two 'meows' sounded the same."

Trein exhaled whilst pinching the bridge of his nose in utter frustration — in all his years here at NRC, he had never met someone who was so bad at this class.

"That's exactly your problem," he muttered as he ran his hand through Lucius' fur to keep his composure. "Maybe it is because the people from your world do not seek to attempt understanding their animals?"

Scratching the back of your neck, you shook your head with an unsure frown on your face. "Well, I think we simply lack the magical affinity to understand them."

The corners of your professor's lips dropped down into a disappointed and pitiful frown at your words — a world where people couldn't understand their pets? That surely must be hell. Looking down at his precious cat, Trein muttered, "How sad. Nonetheless, I cannot let you pass this class if you cannot understand even the simplest greetings of animal language, Ms. (L/n)."

Your jaw fell down at his words; you knew you were bad, but you didn't expect to be such an absolute loser in animal language that you were threatening to fail. A feeling of utter helplessness overwhelmed you, one that made you just want to crawl under your bed sheet and never come out again. You hated feeling this way of being utterly lost — but right now, it seemed like there was nothing you could do.

"I... I just can't get a grasp on it!" you cried out, at the end of your wits.

Trein's eyes softened in pity, but he couldn't play favourites with you. So, a small frown on his face, he calmly explained, "If you fail the next test, you'll have to take special private classes with me." You had your eyes glued to the floor, not daring to look up in fear that you would begin to cry. Realising that you had no questions and nothing to say, Trein turned away from you and strode over to his desk. "Dismissed."

Your legs moved automatically as they carried you out of the empty classroom, your heart as heavy as stone. Throat completely dry and eyes wet, you felt like a leaf being pushed around by the wind against its will.

Once you pushed the door open and exited the classroom, you didn't look up and instead marched straight down the corridor. Therefore, you missed the Heartslabyul dorm leader that had been patiently waiting for you outside all this time.

Riddle awkwardly cleared his throat to stop you from walking past him. "(Y/n)."

"Oh hey, Riddle..." You hid your face to prevent a few sniffles from coming out of your throat. Shooting him a weak smile, you asked, "Do you need something?"

Riddle felt his heart break at how sad you seemed; yet, the thought of him being your knight in shining armour to save you from the fiery hell that would be bad grades kept him in high spirits. Shooting you a small smile, he retorted, "Well, yes." You hummed and tilted your head to the side, urging him to go on. Riddle's throat felt dry as he was about to wipe that smile off your face. "You just broke a rule of the Queen of Hearts. Rule 69: 'Never fail a class.' Do you understand me?"

His words made your feelings of despair even worse. Burying your face in your trembling hands, you wailed, "But! But I just suck at Animal Language!" Riddle sighed as he put a hand on your shoulder, having to look away before he would just slap himself for making you this sad. "Riddle, there's nothing I can do..."

Riddle shook his head with a big scowl on his face. Raising his voice, he exclaimed, "Wrong! Before I'll push any punishment on you for breaking a rule, I'd rather tutor you." Your breath hitched at his words, and you slowly removed your palms to hesitantly look up at him with glossy eyes. Riddle's heart skipped a beat at the relieved smile that appeared on your face. "B-But only because you'd break a rule otherwise!"

"You would do that?!" you asked, your voice filled with disbelief. "Oh, you're so kind, Riddle!"

Riddle gulped down hard as he tensed up. "I-I know."

"Alright, see you later, then!" you chirped, your spirits high already, as you shot him one last wink before skipping down the corridor to your next class.

Riddle watched you until you disappeared around the corner, an unusually soft smile on his face. "Rule 420: 'Always help your loved ones.'"

You were in a good mood as you gently pushed open the entrance to the Heartslabyul garden. Eyes wandering across the vast area, you found a figure sitting on a bench, obstructed from your view by the well-taken care of rose bushes. You peeked around the corner to find your tutor sitting on a bench nearby. He looked quite relaxed with how he was holding a hedgehog in his palms, cuddling the little being close to his chest. He seemed so calm, so relaxed — so much that you didn't want to disturb his calm.

Yet, you eventually stepped out from behind the rose bush and approached him. "Riddle! Wow, you're so early..." you chimed, completely catching him off-guard. A shrill shriek escaped his throat as he jumped in surprise, his nerves accidentally causing him to throw the small hedgehog up into the air. Luckily, it landed on his head again, nestling itself into his soft hair.

Riddle's cheeks were completely red as he stared up at you with his back as straight as a candle. You shot him an apologetic smile as you picked the little animal out of his hair and set it down to the floor again. That gave Riddle enough time to regain his composure.

Taking a deep breath, Riddle proudly exclaimed, "Of course I am!" He watched you with careful eyes as you sat down next to him on the bench. "I've never been late to anything, you know. Arriving on time is very important."

"Hm, it sure is." You hummed whilst keeping your gaze trained on the little hedgehog strolling away from you and back to its friends. Letting out a soft giggle, you muttered, "Ah, the flamingos and hedgehogs are so adorable!"

Riddle hummed, feeling quite satisfied when he noticed the admiration in your eyes. "They are. We take care of them well; croquet matches are quite exhausting, after all," he said, trailing off when you turned your head to to him. He temporarily lost track of what he was talking about, but he quickly snapped out of it again. "But that's not what you're here for. Shall we begin with today's tutoring session?"

"Yes, I'd love that!"

Riddle nodded while his gaze travelled over to one of the pink animals standing in the distance; then he turned back to you. "Alright. I'll ask one of the flamingos to come over, so you can talk to them," he explained, to which you hummed to show that you had understood him. Riddle took a deep breath before letting a scrawny squeak escape his throat, one that made the flamingo in question perk up and stroll over to you two curiously. Riddle laughed softly as the flamingo nudged your hand. "Mr. Pink said he's pleased to make your acquaintance."

A little bit awkward, you patted the confident animal's head. "Oh hello, Mr. Pink!"

Riddle frowned a little bit when you wouldn't respond to the flamingo's excited squeaks with words in his language. Instead, you cooed sweet nothings in a language the animal couldn't understand. "Why don't you try to speak with him in his language?" the red-head asked as he scooted closer to you.

A nervous giggle escaped your lips, feeling a little bit embarrassed when you looked up at Riddle to ask, "Uhm... what is he saying?"

Riddle sighed, finally realising how really hopeless you were. Crossing his arms, he casually said, "You're pretty." Only when your eyes widened in utter surprise did he realise how he shouldn't have just said it like that. Shooting forward and waving his arms around wildly, Riddle's face turned red. "Wait! Wait! That's what the flamingo said— I was just translating!"

A smile broke out on your face and you extended a hand to ruffle his hair. "Aw, Riddle. No need to get so worked up about all of this!" you cooed, to which he bit his lip to not spew curses at you. If it were anyone but you, he would have cut off your head already. Ignoring the steam coming out of the boy's ears, you instead began playing with the flamingo that had laid his head into your lap. "Oh, aren't you adorable?"

The flamingo let out delighted cooes as you dragged your hand across his head. Riddled sighed as he muttered, "I want hugs."

"You do?" You temporarily stopped petting the flamingo to look at Riddle with wide eyes.

Riddle buried his face in his palms as he pressed out in exasperation, "Again, that's what the flamingo said!" Laughter spilt from your lips at how embarrassed he seemed. You knew that his composure was pretty much nonexistent, but you didn't think it could be this bad. Yet, when you weren't looking, Riddle peeked out from behind his hands, his voice as low as a small whisper. "But I wouldn't be too adversed by such an idea, truth be told..."

You were far too distracted by the flamingo jumping onto the bench and sprawling himself across your lap, his wings flapping up and down in utter excitement. Amused, you ran your hand across the feathers on his stomach, to which he let out more squeaks. When you temporarily stopped, the animal grew angry.

You delved into the depths of your mind, asking yourself, "Hm... how does one ask if one can touch his wings?" Your hums caused the flamingo to calm down again, and it instead wrapped its claws playfully around your finger. Thinking you had found the correct answer, you finally opened your mouth to let a few shrieks escape your throat. The flamingo responded with an eager shriek before lovingly pecking your face with his beak. "Huh?!"

Riddle didn't know whether he should laugh or cry as he began to explain, "You just asked him if he wants to marry you—" He narrowed his eyes at the animal fussing all over you, giving you a hard time to keep him away from you. Riddle gritted his teeth together, trying to not hex the animal. "And the cheeky flamingo said yes..."

Nervous laughter escaped your lips as you tried to push the excited animal away from you. "Excuse me, sir flamingo—" you cried out, a little bit unsure what to do next. You could try to rectify your mistake by saying something else to your new fiance, but you fully knew you would only make it worse if you tried to say more in the flamingo language.

Riddle pushed the flamingo off of you and yelled, "Back off! She's taken." The flamingo arrogantly flayed his wings before stomping off gracefully, not before shooting you one last wink. Riddle calmed down visibly once the animal was far enough away from you. Turning back to you, he let out a sigh. "Huh, you really need to work on your skills, (Y/n). But fret not, I'm here, after all."

Taking his hands into yours, you cooed, "Hehe, taken by whom~" You relished in the way his face heated up in embarrassment; teasing the poor boy was just so much fun — no wonder why it was Ace and Deuce's hobby. Tilting your head to the side, you put an innocent smile onto your face. "Taken by you, mayhaps?"

"H-Hey! We're getting sidetracked here!" he cried out, his voice high-pitched and desperate. "You might not get a hundred percent if—"

You interrupted him by letting go of his hands and shooting him a big smile that never failed to make his heart leap high. "Thanks for everything, Riddle," you said, an apologetic look flashing across your eyes due to all your teasing. Deciding not to test his patience today, you grabbed the books from your bag you had taken with you. "Now, can we return to improving my animal language skills?"

"Y-Yes sure." Riddle's breathing seemed still quite quick, yet he otherwise looked like he had calmed down well enough to talk to you normally again. Puffing his chest proudly, he exclaimed, "You'll get a perfect score thanks to me!"

And indeed, you magically got a perfect score, thanks to Riddle. It mostly was because the test's main question coincidentally was: 'How do you say, 'Do you want to marry me,' in flamingo language?' And in that field, you were an expert.

Animals and the Paranormal

Can dogs see ghosts? It’s a common question, and something even movies explore. And it may be that animals have unique connections to the paranormal.

But even people who believe in an afterlife and the possibility of ghosts are often skeptical when it comes to the idea of spirit animals. They don’t have souls or spirits, goes the argument, and therefore cannot have a life in the next world. But cats, dogs, birds and other animals are made up of the same energy that humans are, and it may be as possible that this energy can survive death, just as it can for people.

Anyone who is close to their pets will testify to the psychic connection they share. Psychic energy and spiritual energy may all be a part of the same phenomenon, and so animals might have as much of a connection to the unseen world as we do.

Maybe more. Animals not only may appear as ghostly forms, they may also be more sensitive to the proximity of spirits, alerting us to what we cannot see for ourselves.

Dogs can be just as sensitive as cats when it comes to sensing the unseen. People have reported their dogs growling at unseen beings, acting protectively towards their owners, or cowering from spirits.

Animals, with their intense hearing and senses of smell, may indeed be able to sense other beings that humans cannot.

The ghosts of animals may be as common as the ghosts of humans. There are many reports from people who have sensed, felt, smelled, heard and even seen the spirits of recently departed pet

Besides animals sensing ghosts, it is possible to come into contact with the ghost of a dearly loved pet. Many owners have reported feeling their deceased pet’s presence in their homes. For example, in times of crisis, individuals have said they felt a comforting warmth, similar to the feeling of a pet curling up in your lap.

Others have reported hearing the jingle of their pet’s collars, long after the dog or cat passed away.

In fact, there have been incidents of deceased pets making their presence known, even to strangers. Guests at hotels with a reputation for hauntings have experienced phantom barks, meowing noises, and even feeling as if an animal brushed by them.

While animals are sadly cursed with shorter lifespans than humans, they may have other senses that help compensate them. With their exceptional sight and hearing, they may be able to sense spirits that humans cannot see. Even after death, our beloved pets may still linger, giving comfort and protection long after the die.

So the next time your pet acts strangely, staring at an unseen object in a corner or growling at nothing, consider that he may be able to see something that you cannot.

How “Zombie Garfield” Happened

Hello, friends.

Today, I want to talk about a comic series that is extremely special to me because it is one of the many comics that made me realize what I wanted to do as a calling and it helped shame my childhood as well as my sense of humour: Garfield. Sadly... this essay will be a negative one, but it needs to be written. It is how the “Zombie Garfield” came to be. No, it’s not a Halloween special, it is a case of how the downfall of Garfield happened and how it became nothing more than a shadow of what it once was. Note that this essay is also subjective and I am well aware that some fans like the new Garfield. I have nothing, but respect for those fans, but as someone who read Garfield from the beginning and owned a large majority of its books for the last 25 years, I can tell you that the iconic orange fat can is not what he once was and while he has yet to lose weight, he has lost a lot of his original charm. And it goes well beyond seasonal rot. To understand how Zombie Garfield came to be, I will list all the things that made classic Garfield great and how those qualities are now gone. And for the record, this is coming from someone who supports reboots and getting with the times.

1- Garfield is still and always will be a cat. - No matter out outlandish, wacky, ambidextrous his forepaws are or quirky Garfield will act, he will always fall back on being a cat. He cannot talk meaning no one can understand or hear his thoughts, he walks on four legs most of the time and he is a creature of his species habit. With the exception of eating mice that is.

In short, Garfield was smarter and more self-aware than the average cat, but he is a cat and would act like one. That was part of what made him funny, but over time, Garfield would walk only on his hind legs which now had human like feet, everyone could hear his thoughts or he could talk, and he was able to do everything a human being could do. In other words, Garfield became more like an anthropomorphic cat playing the part of a cat.

It just isn’t the same and while I love the Looney Toons for being this way, Garfield isn’t a Looney Toon. He was his own unique thing and now, that uniqueness is gone and I’m not the only who misses it. After all, Garfield paved the way for other pet themed comics thanks to being a cat. It also feels all the more wrong to stop being what he is supposed to be for that reason.

2- Garfield has a heart. - While Garfield has the personality of a problem child and slightly bullying big brother, deep down, he loves John, Odie and at one time, the comic was on the path with Garfield even growing to love Nermal. And no, this isn’t a joke. At one time, Nermal growing on Garfield was a thing.

That was also a huge part of the joke. Garfield was cynical, sarcastic and savage, but deep down, had a lot of love to give. And that is why we loved the comic strip. After all, how can you have a family slice of life comic if there’s no love? Now, Garfield’s antics have become outright sadistic to the point of being grimly homicidal which I get is funny to some, but to a long time fan like me, that is shocking and not the Garfield I know. At all. And not just Garfield. Everyone in the comic has become so mean spirited. While the Garfield family was never a perfect one, it was never dysfunctional like it is now. While even Nermal used to say clever quips, he was never actually mean because he actually admired Garfield. Now, the heart has been replaced with stone and it shows.

3- Garfield was relatable. - And not just for people with cats or for socially awkward people like Jon. Garfield was relatable to people in general because it dealt with issues that the average person could relate to. It wasn’t all about Garfield being a glutton or just putting down Jon. While exaggerated at times, at the core, we could all put ourselves in the characters’ shoes at one time or another. Kind of like, this situation right here;

Nowadays, we have Garfield taking these mission impossible type trips all the way in the Amazon jungle, he finds a dinosaur bone in his backyard and there was even a special about him becoming a superhero.

Now, I don’t mind specials that switch it up, but even the specials should be grounded in reality because that was Garfield’s major audience: real people. And I also understand that the new Garfield Show cartoon is aimed for children, but the type of episodes it features feel like they belong in another setting. Not for Garfield.

4- Everyone would win and lose some sometimes. Including Garfield. - In other words, Garfield was not a Mary Sue who would get away with everything no matter how awful he acted. Sooner or later, he would get his karma moments just like everyone else would. And on the flipside, the others would win every now and then for their efforts including Jon and Odie. This kept the characters interesting and funny.

Now, there seems to be an unwritten rule that no matter how bad Garfield acts, the worst he gets is a slap on the paw. And also, Jon just isn’t allowed to win anymore (with the exception of the point I will bring up next and I’m surprised he still has that with how he is written now). This has changed Garfield into a mischievous yet loveable cat to a borderline abuser. This is absolute not the Garfield I know at all. Sure, he was savage at times, but never cruel. And Jon was socially awkward and had a rocky love life, but he was never THIS inept.

5- Jon’s struggle with winning Liz’s heart. - If there was one true plot to Garfield, it was Jon finding true love though specifically, him trying to woo Garfield’s vet Liz. It was always kind of hinted that sooner or later, Jon would finally capture her heart and it was something we were all rooting for yet at the same time, it would be bittersweet because it would mark the end of the series just as Steve Urkell finally winning Laura Winslow from Family Matters marked the end of that series. As long as Liz only at best tolerated Jon, it meant that the story was still going on and in its defense, the comic was still funny throughout that period even if by the end, its age was starting to show.

And on a side note, I mean even years after this phase of the comic, but this is the best of the Jon wooing Liz strip’s in my opinion. Anyway, when the fateful day happened where the pair finally went steady, we all expected to end. Of course, not abruptly as there would be a few new jokes to tell, but the story ran its natural course and the only big left to do was end it on a high note with Jon and Liz most likely either getting married or at least living together... but that didn’t happen. The comic is still ongoing which is a disservice to it because all of the important jokes have run out. Now, it looks like the story will continue until Liz leaves Jon which is not a good way to end the show because instead of ending on a happy high note, it will end on a sad low note. If it even ends when that happens.

Now, as I stated before, this is all my opinion, but I have to say that in my mind, once Liz finally became Jon’s woman and the family accepted her, Garfield ended. I also want to clear the air that new Garfield in no way, shape or form changes the way I feel about my Garfield. Nothing can change that for me. I am just saying that I have lost interest in the comic and I just take it as another example of what happens when you don’t let a story end once it has run its natural course. It loses itself.

Summary: Mahiru comes across a letter and decides to write a response to it. (KuroMahi, Historical Romance AU)

After the library closed, Mahiru collected the papers and books that people had left on the tables. He wished people were more responsible and cleaned up after themselves. He worked in the castle and he came to learn that the royal family were as callus as they were wealthy. Mahiru picked up a book and a sheet of paper fell from between the pages. A sentence caught his eyes: Do you like cats?

His curiosity got the better of him and he skimmed through the rest. Mahiru discovered that it was a letter. There wasn’t enough detail in the note to know who wrote it or the person it was intended for. He found an envelope nearby and the return address was the warfront. He assumed the letter’s author was a soldier fighting in the war. While the letter was short, Mahiru thought he sounded lonely.

My Lady, I’m not the best with words or letters but my brother suggested that I write something to you. I agreed since we are engaged to be married. Arranged marriages are troublesome, aren’t they? I don’t even know your name but it’ll change to mine once I return from the war. We haven’t had a chance to meet before the war started. I would like to learn more about you before we say our vows though. Do you like cats? From, Kuro Sleepy Ash Servamp.

Mahiru wondered why the letter had been left behind in a book. Since the envelope was opened when he found it, the man’s fiancé must’ve read it already. Did she misplace it? She would likely want the letter back to be able to write a response. He decided to search for the man’s fiancé and then he walked to his friend who was working nearby.

“Misono, you were working this morning. Did you see a woman sitting at that desk who was reading a letter? I think she accidentally left it behind and I want to return it to her.” Mahiru explained how he found the letter. “I know most of the servants working in the castle but I don’t know anyone who’s in an arranged marriage.”

“You shouldn’t trouble yourself with that letter and their engagement. I overheard the woman and her friends talking about the letter. The woman laughed about it and threw the latter away. She said, in an arranged marriage, there’s no need for love and she doesn’t intend to write a reply.” Misono told him. “I know you like to help people but you should throw away that letter.”

“He’ll be left waiting for a reply though.” Mahiru argued and then bit his lip. A part of him knew that he shouldn’t insert himself into a stranger’s life yet something in the letter tugged at his heart. He grew up without a father due to the war. He recalled how his mother would wait for his father’s letter that never came. One sentence would’ve been enough to make her smile and give her hope.

Could the man in the letter be in a similar situation as his mother was?

“One letter wouldn’t hurt. I’ll tell him that she’s too sick to write a reply. He won’t know that the woman laughed at his letter.” Mahiru reasoned. He sat at a desk and took out a pen to start his letter.

“He’ll meet his fiancé eventually and learn the truth.” Misono pointed out but he knew that it was useless to argue. Once his friend had decided he wanted to help someone, no one could dissuade him.

When Kuro wrote the letter to his fiancé, he didn’t expect her to write back to him. They were engaged to be married but they hadn’t met before. His brother suggested they traded letters to learn more about each other before their marriage. He didn’t know why he decided to send the letter though. Their arranged marriage was political and he knew better than to expect anything more than a loveless life.

He broke the seal on the envelope and he took out the letter. The paper had the subtle scent of roses. Kuro also found a pressed rose within the envelope and he assumed the scent was from the flower. He was surprised to find a gift with his letter and he twirled the fragile rose between his fingers. Then, he carefully placed the rose aside and read through the letter.

Dear Kuro. I hope you, your family and everyone fighting in the war are doing well. Sadly, I am feeling sick and I cannot write a long reply. I have sent you a rose with this letter. My brother is also fighting in the war and he told me how bleak the battles can be. A rose might not be much but I hope it’ll lift your spirits whenever you need it. Please keep the rose close like a charm so you’ll stay safe.

To answer your question, I adore cats. They’re simple creatures but wonderful companions. I once had a black cat as a pet and it would sit on my lap whenever I was lonely. There are a lot of stray cats in the castle and I would adopt them all if I were allowed. My friend would lecture me if I tried so I’ll have to settle for leaving out food for them.

While he hadn’t met his fiancé before, his family had told him a few things about her. She didn’t seem to be the type to feed stray cats so the letter piqued his interest. Kuro wondered if people were wrong about her. Many people judged his siblings so he sympathized with her if she was in the same situation. He only accepted the marriage for the sake of his family but he wondered if they could be something genuine.

“Mahiru, you have another letter. I thought you said that you would only send one letter. You’re lucky these letters are sent to the castle’s library to be sorted before they’re delivered to everyone.” Misono held out the envelope to Mahiru. Excitement beamed in his brown eyes as he took the letter from his friend. He didn’t know what they wrote to each other about but, from his reaction to the letter, he could see that they had grown close. “I hope you’re being careful when you write to him.”

“Don’t worry, I keep my letters simple.” He assured him. Months had passed since the first letter and they had exchanged countless letters. He didn’t know his fiancé so Mahiru would tell him about his own experiences. He was careful not to be discovered though. They had gotten to know each other through their letters and he learned that Kuro was a funny and thoughtful man. Mahiru felt a little guilty for lying to him. He could only imagine how confused he would be after he meet his fiancé.

Mahiru walked to a private corner of the library so he could read the letter. He opened the window to let in a cool breeze. There were rose bushes next to the window and their pleasant smell soothed him. He sat at the desk and opened Kuro’s letter. He smiled when he found a sketch of a bird attached to the letter. Kuro would often send him pictures to thank him for the flowers he gave him.

Dear Rose, animals don’t visit the camp often but I saw a bird outside my tent this morning. I thought you might like it so I drew a sketch for you. There’s finally a lull in the battle and I can sleep peacefully. I heard the enemy has pulled back their forces and I hope that’s a sign the war will end soon. We can finally meet each other and feed those stray cats you told me about in your first letter.

To be honest, I thought an arranged marriage was troublesome since we’re practically strangers. I’m lucky that my fiancé is someone I can talk to. I’m glad that I wrote a letter to you. All of my siblings are fighting in the war and I don’t know if I’ll have a family to return to when this is over. Meeting you is the one of the things I can look forward to, Rose.

Since Kuro didn’t know his name, he had given him a nickname based on the flower he sent him. His letter went on to tell him about his day and his family. Mahiru looked forward to his letters but he would have mixed feelings at the same time. He hadn’t intended to write more than one reply yet something changed with each letter they exchanged. His small lie had grown and Kuro would be hurt once he met his fiancé who had thrown away his letter.

Mahiru heard a sharp yelp of pain and he turned towards the voice. He leaned out the window to search for the person who was hurt and his eyes fell on a man in a white cloak. The man had a few roses in his arm and Mahiru guessed that he had pricked himself with a thorn. He walked to the window and said, “Excuse me, are you okay, Sir?”

“It’s just a small cut. I’ve gotten worse.” He shrugged.

“You should be mindful of wounds, even if they’re small. May I see your hand?” Mahiru asked. He held out his hand to him and the man laid his hand over his palm in return. Scars lined his fingers but Mahiru didn’t comment on them like the man expected him too. He ripped a strip of cloth from his napkin and then wrapped it around his finger.

“Will I make a full recovery, Doctor?” He asked in a flat voice but the subtle tilt of his lips told him that he was being more teasing than sarcastic. He had a handsome smile and Mahiru wondered who he was. Mahiru knew most of the workers in the castle but he didn’t recognize the man. He was certain he would remember someone with unique red eyes.

“I think you’ll survive. If you want to cut flowers, you should visit the castle’s greenhouse. My friend works there and I can ask him to let you pick a few flowers. Wait here and I’ll show you where the greenhouse is.” Mahiru offered and the man nodded in agreement. He carefully placed Kuro’s letter in his pocket before he left the library to help the man.

The backdoor of the library was nearby and he stepped outside. He stopped at his side and then gestured for him to follow him. They fell into step next to each other and Mahiru watched him from the corner of his eyes. “My name’s Mahiru. I haven’t seen you before. Are you here to visit someone in the castle?”

“I want to surprise my fiancé. She isn’t expecting me to return until a week from now. My brother is over watching my land so I can visit her. I saw roses and I thought I should pick a few for her. That makes me sound like a hopeless romantic, doesn’t it?” He chuckled at himself. His red eyes softened and Mahiru could see that he cared for his fiancé.

“That’s sweet. Your fiancé is lucky to have a caring partner. It’s rare that a person can marry for love rather than for it to be arranged by your parents. I know a lot of the workers in the castle so I might know your fiancé. What’s her name?”

“I don’t know since we’re in an arranged marriage. I wasn’t able to meet her before I joined the war. We’ve spoken through letters though. She sent me a rose and I want to give her one as well.” His words caused Mahiru’s body to stiffen in shock. He couldn’t move as a realization crashed over him.

The man in front of him was Kuro.

“Is something wrong, Mahiru?” Kuro noticed how he stopped walking and he turned back to him. Mahiru had large, expressive brown eyes so Kuro could see his shock. His mind was racing too fast for Mahiru to respond to his question. What could he say? He knew the right thing to do was to tell him the truth before he went to his fiancé.

Mahiru faced Kuro yet his words became caught in his throat. He couldn’t only imagine the hurt on his face when he told him that his fiancé wasn’t the one to write the letter. Kuro was staring at him with confusion so he knew he needed to say something. “Maybe this isn’t the right time to visit your fiancé, Kuro. You’re returning from a war so you should take some time for yourself.”

“… How did you know that my name is Kuro? I haven’t told you my name yet.” Kuro’s brows furrowed as he studied Mahiru. Instead of answering, Mahiru turned on his heel and dashed away from him.

“I should’ve listened to Misono and ignored his letter. What am I going to do now?” Mahiru muttered to himself as he fed the cats. They purred in response to his words and he petted one of the cats. Unfortunately, its soft fur didn’t comfort him like it usually did. Another sigh escaped him and he took out the letter Kuro had sent him. He had to remind himself: “He didn’t send this to me.”

A cat pawed at the paper and Mahiru quickly lifted the letter out of its reach. He was surprised when the letter was stolen from his hand. He looked over his shoulder to see who the person was and he gasped. Kuro stood over him with the letter in his hand. He didn’t appear angry but Mahiru held his breath as he waited for him to speak.

“Do you like cats?” His question was barely a whisper but it caused guilt to squeeze Mahiru’s heart. Kuro didn’t look at him and focused on the cats instead. “My fiancé said she liked to feed the stray cats in the castle. I came here to speak with her but she’s not here. I don’t think she’ll come either. After you ran away, I spoke with my brother who arranged the marriage. He says my fiancé is allergic to cats.”

“She didn’t lie to you and she didn’t tell me to write those letters to you either. Please, don’t be angry with her for something I did on my own.” Mahiru knew that it was pointless to lie to him. His gaze fell to the ground as he explained how he found his letter. “I thought I was sparing your feelings by replying to your letter but I only made this complicated situation. I’m sorry for lying to you about who I was. Everything else I wrote about was the truth though.”

Mahiru felt a warm hand brush over his hair and he finally faced Kuro. Tenderly, he brushed his brown hair from his eyes and then tucked a rose behind his ear. “I told my fiancé that I didn’t want to go through with the arranged marriage. There’s someone I wanted to get to know through more than letters. You’ve never told me about your family, Mahiru.”

“I have a brother and we were raised by my uncle.” Mahiru was relieved that Kuro wasn’t angry with him for lying and he wanted to get to know him more. They already knew each other through their letters so they were able to fall into a conversation easily. He told him about his childhood and petted the cat on his lap. He liked exchanging letters with Kuro but he found that he preferred speaking with him in person.

*ahem* but thank you, I still feel bad about the wait so in return I shall discuss a lil bit about my (boring) life haha. To answer the question I cooked some patties (or at least that is what I think is in English? I am so sorry djabfjsj) felt proud if that ngl cx 2 months was a bit hectic and not in a good way (TW) I lost my pet bunny and grandma so not the best, am doing better now! So something that always amazed me is like she always knew where I kept headphones, like I kid you not she would always hop to them and then try to chew them (she chewed like 3 of them from doing this lol) like I am convinced she had a sonar radar system for headphones. hello bunny! so sorry for the late response, i hope you will see it :( <3 i can't stress this enough, i'm so sorry about your pet bunny and even more sorry about your grandma. i hope you're okay... i totally understand how painful it is, talking about pets, i have a very strong love to my and my family members' pets, last year my grandma's cat sadly passed away and he had some issues that we weren't aware of all the time so knowing that he might have been in pain really hurt me. i was crying for the whole day :( as for you, i'd say be gentle to yourself, take your time and heal <3 i hope you are better now and i wish you all the best. i'm not the best right now, but baby steps as you said! i'm trying my best, i will start uni again in a week so i'm anxious, i am also feeling very unsure and unsafe about a lot of things in my life but hopefully everything will be ok. what about you? what's been going on in your life? <3 having a pet bunny sounds so fun to me, ngl! adorable memory <3 also, if you want you can always text me off anon, it's fine! anyways, i hope you are okay and please feel free to share anything that's on your mind, i will share some funny cat moments with you the next time in order to keep our good spirits <3 love ya!

Natsume yuujinchou  (a teenage orphan who sees spirits/monsters sets out to free the spirits who were bound in magical contract by his grandmother after he inherits a powerful book, aided primarily by a spirit who appears as an exasperated fat cat (who is just as fun as he sounds). Titular character is like my Fave boy in the whole world, he’s so kind and soft despite all the hardships he’s faced, the series has very gentle pacing/character development, and each episode is a carefully crafted lil story that have often moved me to tears, chuckles, or outright chinhands of fondness as u watch natsume slowly find a home in the world and amongst the humans &spirits around him. big focus on friendships, there’s like no romance with any of the main characters, lots of cool different creatures (most of whom arent all that scary once u get to know them), its just literally everything i could ever dream for in a show and it exists! <3)

Leverage (team of modern day robin hoods ruin rich peoples’ lives via  delightfully crafted spy cons to give back to the regular folks the rich people hurt. Extremely good, strong found family vibes, and v cathartic)

Brooklyn 99 (follows diverse cast of character who make up a NY precinct. Hilarious, immensely wholesome & groundbreaking, & probs the most lighthearted crime show besides like psych tbh)

Blackspot/Zone Blanche (spoopy french/belgium crime series set in a small village way out in the mountains surrounded by misty, mysterious and murdery woods. eerie and atmospheric, but also like one of my fave characters (everyone calls him teddy bear) keeps a pet guinea pig at work, so it’s not entirely grim and bleak)

Longmire (a modern western crime drama centering around the titular sheriff and others in their small town wyoming county, well written and lot of chracter development revealed alongside some really good case mysteries bc i love trying to figure out whodunits apparently based on a book series well adored by dads btw)

who is your favorite character in 2? (leverage) ahhh,,, this is hard... Eliot maybe? like Hardison is baby ofc, but i relate to elliot a ton (i think if i was on a team i would want to be the hitter tbh?) and love the subversion of so many action hero tropes that he is, also endlessly amused by how very put upon he is despite all his rad/random skills

who is your least favorite character in 1? (natsume yuujinchou) oh seiji matoba for sure, he can go eat a mouldy tree stump. absolutely evil nasty dude

what is your favorite episode of 4? (blackspot) the end of the road. great opening, didnt end up too devastating unlike a lot of the cases, Hermann was gr8, cool twist i hadnt super expected in the plot which was neat.

what is your favorite season of 5? (longmire) probs 1, walter reeally started to piss me off being Such A Man in later seasons, also me being extremely anxious about Henry and his life choices later, that creepy stalker storyline starting up with Someone and when Someone else in the main cast got died really suddenly and upsettingly later on as well, also when a weird relationship started between some of the characters that i really aint feeling so. before all that happened was nice (also sorry if this is super vague, im trying to avoid spoilers)

who is your favorite couple in 3? (B99) Besides Jake/Amy and Holt/Kevin (bc oviously theyre gr8) uh.. i know it was a long time ago and didnt last very long, but i thought rosa and marcus were really sweet? it brought another layer out to her character, even when they broke up that helped rosa starting to show emotional vulnerability and all, even tho it ended it was still just, idk, i liked them.

what is your favorite episode of 5? (longmire) Dog soldier!! ive rewatched that one a ton, so so many good bits, really satisfying resolution of the case despite the shitty system that was revealed, and i rmr getting chills by the end the first time i saw it.

what is your favorite season of 2? (leverage) i guess season 1? just, idk, everything being set up and watching all these grumpies/less grumpies who have no plans to stay together start working together as a baby team, and just the joy of seeing their first heist together with the first plot twist, just.. such a delight, but all seasons that ive seen so far were all excellent, it’s a stellar show

how did you become interested in 3? (b99) i think it was just on netflix way back in season 1 and i started watching it, loved it and never stopped? i think that might have even been before it got rlly popular lol

who is your favorite actor in 4? (blackspot) i dont rlly know any of these french peeps? but teddybear’s one of my fave characters, so hopefully the person who plays him is also cool, in which case hubert delattre (if not, Suliane Brahim does a v good job as the lead)

which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5? (natsume yujinchou, leverage or longmire) um... real torn between natsume and leverage here, they’re both such lovely gems that do found family so, so well.. leverage is a team of modern robin hood-esque spies with brilliant writing and exciting heists and multiple delightful plot twists every episode and great character building and so much catharticism in ruining evil rich peoples lives.

but natsume’s title character is one of my very favorite characters ever, hes been through so much but he becomes the most kindest and thoughtful boy ever, and its so, so soft and gentle in its development of characters and their slow build of getting to know each other and becoming friends, and the interactions with the paranormal world are very rarely entirely malicious/scary, and there’s pretty well no romance, at least like no romance for plot/with the main characters anyways, and there’s lots of female characters who have important roles but arent sexualized/killed off for man feels/exist for romo (which sadly cannot be said about a lot of media, especially manga/anime tbh, even leverage does not win entirely on that front).. its defintiely my favorite anime ever (i dont watch loads, but literally no other one can ever come close to topping its perfection),

i guess tho, leverage is over, and natsume is still technically ongoing, so i guess for that then i have to go with natsume?

which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3? (natsume yuujinchou or b99) Natsume for sure, they’re so short its easy to power thru like half a season in an afternoon

if you could be anyone from 4, who would you be? (blackspot) i would probably want to be someone who didnt live in villefranche actually haha uh, it’s a pretty spoopity place.. even some of the characters i do like make some Bad decisions that are v bothersome. Dr. Leila barami seems to have a good head on her shoulders tho, so if i Must be a character here then let’s go with her

would a crossover between 3 and 4 work? (b99 or blackspot) oh god... the cheery upbeat department at the 99 meet up with a grim, misty tiny mountain forest village with bleak day to day life, solving crimes amidst small town paranoia and weird maybe cult-related conspiracies and honestbhly something/s paranormal and menacing going on in the woods?? i just... cant see any of the characters even interacting lol, im just picturing jake’s confused befuddled face when he hears something weird but like x 10000

pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple? (natsume yujinchou) hm... i mean, one of the things i love about Natsume is that there arent really any romo relationships tbh? at least not with any of the main characters in the main storyline (so far), just like the odd one-off of minor characters (and takashi’s adopted parents ofc, but that’s different). so, yeah, i cant really think of one (although i think the big fandom fave ship of takashi and his worst enemy is rlly.. nope, and i dont know what’s going on there? takashi and tanama however, that would make sense, tho it is not unlikely so i cant answer this question with them)

overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5? (b99 or longmire) b99! cos ya know my annoyances with some of the stuff happening later on in longmire lol, b99 just got better n better as it went along, and it’s still going :’)

13 Not-So-Scary Movies to Get You in the Halloween Spirit!

Halloween is around the corner. Everywhere you look a horror movie is playing. For me, I love it. There is just something about being scared while knowing full well you are safe. But not everyone is into that sort of thing. My wife is one, so I tried to find lists of not-so-scary movies but was having trouble coming up with one, so I decided to write my own.

Please keep in mind, I did try to keep the list more kid and family friendly.

13. HOCUS POCUS

300 years have passed since the Sanderson sisters were executed for practicing dark witchcraft. Returning to life, thanks to a combination of a spell spoken before their demise and the accidental actions of Max, the new-kid-in-town, the sisters have but one night to secure their continuing existence. With the help of his younger sister Dani, his high school crush Allison, and a magical cat, it is up to Max to save the children of Salem.

A must see on any Halloween movie list. Full of light-hearted humour, this film is loved by people of all ages.

12. CASPER (1995)

Furious that her late father only willed her his gloomy-looking mansion rather than his millions, Carrigan Crittenden makes a plan to burn the place to the ground. That is, until she finds a map leading to a treasure hidden under the house. But when she enters the rickety mansion to seek her claim, she is frightened away by the mansions ghostly inhabitants. Determined to get her hands on this hidden fortune, Crittenden hires afterlife therapist Dr. James Harvey to exorcise the ghosts from the mansion. Harvey and his daughter Kat move in and soon Kat befriends Casper, the ghost of a young boy, who is “the friendly ghost.” But not so friendly are Casper’s uncles--Stretch, Fatso and Stinkie--who are determined to drive all “fleshies” away. It is up to Harvey and Kat to help the ghosts cross over to the other side.

I may get some flack putting Casper this high up on the list, but hey, to each their own. Casper is a fun little film filled with the right amount of supernatural scares placed inside a package that every age can enjoy.

11. THE WITCHES

While staying at a hotel in England with his grandmother, Helga, young Luke inadvertently spies on a convention of witches. The Grand High Witch reveals a plan to turn all children into mice through a magical formula. When they find that Luke has overheard, the witches test the formula on him. Now, with the help of his grandmother and new friend Bruno Jenkins, Luke the mouse must fight back against the evil witches.

Based on the book of the same name, The Witches is a classic. This may be one of the more frightening films on the list but is still children-friendly. Besides, who doesn’t want to save the world as a mouse.

10. THE MONSTER SQUAD

The Monster Squad is a club of friends who idolize the classic monster-movies, especially their non-human stars. One day, Dracula, the Mummy, Frankenstein’s Monster, and other classic horror icons, all of which the club idolize, arrive in town in search of a magic amulet to destroy all the good in the world. It is up to the five friends to save the amulet from destruction and use it to cast the monsters into limbo.

One part The Goonies, one part Ghostbusters, and one part Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, the Monster Squad is a true cult classic that was way ahead of its time.

Watch for yourself and find out if the “Wolfman has nards.”

9. BEETLEJUICE

Adam and Barbara are like every other happily married couple -- who just happen to also be dead! Before they died, Adam and Barbara had spent their vacation to decorate and make the house their own, that is, until the fatal car crash. Unfortunately, a new family is moving in, and not quietly as they make plans to redecorate the house with the help of an interior designer. Adam and Barbara try to scare them out, but end up becoming the main attraction to the money making family. They call upon Beetlejuice to help, but Beetlejuice has more in mind than just helping.

While having a special place in my heart for taking place in Connecticut, Beetlejuice is an all around classic starting Michael Keaton and a young Winona Ryder.

8. PARANORMAN

Norman Babcock has the ability to speak with the dead -- and he often prefers their company to that of the living. Norman learns from his estranged uncle that a centuries-old witch’s curse on their town is real and about to come true -- and only Norman can stop it. When zombies rise from their graves, Norman and his ragtag team must summon all their courage and compassion to the limit to save his fellow townspeople. Taking place in the fictional town of Blithe Hollow, this stop-motion film is a beautiful take on the Salem Witch Trials.

I have to admit, I slept on this movie when it first came out. I had no interest in it at all, but then I watched it and became an instant favourite. The humour is a little more blue for a “children’s” movie, but the lesson learned in the end is valuable for all involved. Did I mention it is also well known for being the first mainstream animated film with an openly gay character?

7. FRANKENWEENIE

Young Victor Frankenstein is a science nerd and an outsider at school, but he does have one friend, his dog Sparky. Sadly, tragedy strikes, taking Sparky away from Victor. Heartbroken, Victor is given an idea of how to bring Sparky back to life. The experiment is a success and everything goes fine, that is, until his fellow students learn of his secret and use it to resurrect their beloved lost pets. Frankenweenie is a heartwarming tale of a boy and his dog, and the lengths we would go to keep our beloved friend.

I consider Frankenweenie to be the sister movie to ParaNorman. Both are stop motion and came out in the same year. The difference is Frankenweenie takes you back to the classic universal horror icons in a brand-new way. Did I mention it is in black and white and has that classic monster movie feel?

6. NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

What happens to the Pumpkin King when he tires of being just that, the King of Halloween. Jack Skellington is bored of the same annual routine of scaring the people of the real world. One day, he stumbles upon Christmastown, full of bright colours and warm spirits, bringing a new lease to Jack’s life. He plots to bring Christmas under his control, only to find that the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton can go awry.

Originally I intended only one movie per director, but I don’t think you can begin to discuss family friendly Halloween without Tim Burton, especially because you cannot have a Halloween list without Nightmare Before Christmas. In all fairness, this is the perfect movie to finish out the year with.

5. COCO

Miguel dream of becoming a musician, just like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. The problem, his family has a generations-old ban on music. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel steals Ernesto’s guitar and finds himself in the colourful Land of the Dead. With the help of a charming trickster named Héctor and Miguel’s dog Dante, Miguel must find his way back home, meanwhile learning the truth about his family’s past.

All bite. Coco is a Dia de los Muertos movie. I know some of you will complain that it is not a Halloween movie. Truth is, the spirit of Dia de los Muertos and Halloween are close enough for me to warrant inclusion into the list. The scenery and background is gorgeous, the story will tug at the heartstrings, and you will get to learn a little about the culture behind Dia de los Muertos, even if a bit Disneytized.

4. HALLOWEENTOWN

On Halloween, while Marnie is arguing with her mother Gwen, the kids’ grandmother Aggie comes to visit. Aggie wants to start Marnie’s witch training before her 13th birthday or Marnie will lose her powers forever. But there is another reason for Aggie’s visit. Something dark and evil is growing in Halloweentown, and Aggie wants help to defeat it. While Aggie and Gwen are arguing, Aggie uses magic, which Marnie observes. After Aggie leaves to return to Halloweentown, Marnie, Dylan and, unknown to Marnie and Dylan, Sophie follow her onto the return bus. Soon afterwards, Gwen follows the children to Halloweentown. While there, Aggie and Gwen are attacked by the dark force. Marnie, Dylan and Sophie have to race to get the ingredients to activate Merlin’s Wand to stop the evil and save Halloweentown.

A classic made for TV Disney movie, this film (and all sequels) are a perfect Halloween movie for all ages, and albeit a little cheesy at times. But who doesn’t love the occasional cheesy movie?

3. SCOOBY DOO AND THE WITCH’S GHOST

When the Master Gang Scooby meet a famous horror writer Ben Ravencroft (who may or may not be based off of Stephen King) during their last mystery, he invites them to his small hometown of Oakhaven, Massachusetts to join in the annual Autumn Fest. Ravencroft tells the Mystery Gang about the history of his ancestor, Sarah Ravencroft, who happened to be an evil witch and is supposedly haunting the town of Oakhaven. The gang decides to help the town and solve the mystery of the Witch’s Ghost.

This was tough to pick. We have Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School, Scooby Doo and Zombie Island, I mean honestly any Scooby Doo movie could fit. But I picked Witch’s Ghost for three simple reasons: takes place during the fall, witches, and the Hex Girls, a fictional all-female Goth Rock Band.

2. MONSTER HOUSE

13-year-old DJ is obsessed with his creepy neighbour, Nebbercracker, and his eerie house. After all, rumours of his past have run rampant in the town. But one day, DJ and his friends witness the house come to life. Unable to find an adult that will believe him, and with Halloween vastly approaching, it is up to DJ and his friends to find a way to destroy the house before innocent trick-or-treaters meet their end.

At times, this film is a little on the frightening side, at least for the younger ones. The characters are well thought out and put together. While the animation is not ground breaking, it looks great and fits the movie perfectly. A perfect film for those looking for a fun, clean movie this Halloween.

1. GOOSEBUMPS 2: HAUNTED HALLOWEEN

While collecting junk from an abandoned house, best friends Sonny and Sam come across an unpublished “Goosebumps” book. Opening it, they release Slappy, a mischievous talking dummy. Hoping to start a family, Slappy kidnaps Sonny’s mother and brings fourth all of his ghoulish friends (creatures and monsters from the Goosebumps novels) to life, just in time for Halloween. The sleepy town becomes overrun with monsters, witches, and other mysterious creatures. It is up to Sonny, his sister Sarah, and Sam to save their town, his mother, and foil Slappy’s plans.

Goosebumps (2015) is a pure nostalgia ride with a brand new feel and Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween is no different. Trading in some of the humor for a little more horror feel, the movie has a little bit to offer for everyone.

The truth of the matter is, this list is not perfect and may never be complete, but it is a great starting point to the ever growing list of the Not-So-Scary Halloween movies. I feel in writing this, I have left so many great films off, so I have a list of some runner up films that just barely missed being on my top 13.

RUNNER UPS

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA

Dracula and the classic horror monsters are afraid of humans. In an attempt to take a vacation away from humanity, Dracula operates a hotel way off in the woods. One day, a brave human makes his way to the castle, where the human and Dracula’s daughter “Zing”.

ADDAMS FAMILY (1991)

A man claiming to be Uncle Fester, the missing brother of Gomez Addams shows up at the Addam’s household. The family is thrilled, however Morticia begins to suspect the man is a fraud as he cannot recall details of Fester’s life. With the help of a lawyer, Fester manages to get the Addams evicted from the home. Can the Addam’s family save Uncle Fester? Can they get their home back?

DOUBLE DOUBLE TOIL AND TROUBLE

The Farmer family is in debt and might lose their house. The Farmer Twins discover the somebody mean and shrewd is responsible for all the family problems. The determined twins try to trick at their evil aunt out of her magic moonstone to save their family home.

THE ADVENTURES OF ICHABOD AND MR. TOAD

Two animated adaptations of classic literature adapted by Disney make up this film, which is the only reason it made the runner up list as Mr. Toad, while good, has nothing to do with Halloween. However, in the “Legend of Sleepy Hollow” the gangly schoolmaster, Ichabod Crane, falls for the beautiful Katrina Van Tassel. Caught in a love triangle with Katrina and Brom Bones, Ichabod fears the local legend of the Headless Horseman. Is the legend more truth than lore?

ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS MEET THE WOLFMAN

Alvin loves monsters and monster movies, though he is terrified of them. Stuck with Werewolves on the mind, he believes his next door neighbour is one. Reluctantly, Simon helps Alvin investigate the neighbour. Meanwhile Theodore is bitten by a strange dog, and finds his inner “inner monster” and starts behaving like a werewolf himself.

Cytus 2: I used to be played it using my OPPO Neo 7 but sadly I’d prefer by using a tablet but my old 1st Gen iPad 2 is not working. How I wish I want to buy a new tablet to play Cytus 2 smoothly and without a problem or bug issues. To be honest, I’m better at playing Cytus and Cytus 2 with a tablet than my phone.

Sometimes when I get bored and lonely, I wrote a wishlist that I want so please understand this. And when I’m always bored, I will get sleepy and get back to my nap. 

My favorite foods are anything, sometimes spicy but not too spicy. I hate something raw, slimy or something strange unless it is okay. I also love ice cream, cake, froyo and dark chocolate. I love Starbucks too that my favorites are anything iced, frappuchino and cold brew with sweet cream. I especially love Brown Sugar Milk Tea and I want to try Wintermelon Milk Tea.

My favorite fruits are Mango, Banana, Strawberry, Kiwi and Seedless Grapes..

My favorite flavors of ice cream: Cookies and Cream and Double Dutch. For sundaes, I love hot fudge. I also love Magnum too.

My favorite cakes: Chocolate Cake, Oreo Cheesecake and Tiramisu. I want to try Sansrival, New York style Cheesecake, Carrot Cake and Strawberry Cheesecake

Favorite chocolate treats: M&M’s, KitKat, Butterfinger, Resse’s, Lindt Lindor and Hershey’s miniatures (Mr. Goodman, Krackle, Plain Chocolate and Dark Chocolate).

Other favorite desserts: Donuts, Waffles, Pancakes, Banana Bread, Churros, French Toast, Donuts, Cinnamon Rolls, Pretzels (Crispy Ones), Silvanas, Cream Puffs and Eclairs. 

I used to eat sandwiches with mayonnaise but when I got a stomachache, I don’t like mayonnaise at all. And when it comes to drinking milk, I used to drink milk using powdered ones but now I love to drink milk in 1 liter cartons or what do I mean in liquids. I used to drink juice every recess time at school but I due to the fact that it tastes too sweet, I prefer fresh milk or yogurt drinks. Sometimes I drink Minute Maid fresh Orange juice or a can of pineapple juice for my next baon.

Now here comes my special interests: I love books, Anime, cartoons, Kpop, RWBY, seeing something satisfying like cooking and eating ASMR, cute things and animals, seeing pictures of food, landscapes, skies and rooms. I do watch Kpop unboxing videos on YouTube but on silent mode.

For the movies, I love comedies (Rom-Com, Action Comedy, Drama Comedy), animated movies and of course musicals because when I saw a movie that has singing, I have to keep quiet and keep my eyes peeled to the screen. I don’t like horror, thriller and gore movies because that it will be traumatizing.

Why I love books? It brought me knowledge that everytime I went to school library in both grade school and high school, recess and lunch time cannot be boring especially when there is a book fair from Scholastic. I even read newspapers inside the library as well.

My another interest is I love writing letters all over the world. It’s called penpals. I was started penpaling last August 2018 because I want to stay motivated and not to get even more bored.

Always Home (Day 2: Firsts)

Note: For the second day for @kyoruweek19 which is firsts, I decided to do Kyo walking Hajime to school, though it is less on the shipping but I am glad that came well. I forget to amend the new one, so here we go :)

Tohru and Kyo looked at the blooming Sakura blossoms littering their path, and Hajime seems to take his time to follow every path, some petals danced to tasty joints while other fluttered to anticipating parents and children walking by. However, Hajime seems to be distracted by a small calico cat walking at the distance.

“Hajime…”

His heart sunk over that peaceful sight. Given that he has been burdened by the Cat spirit beforehand. He yearned over that peace Hajime has and he is willing to keep that forever.

Hajime looked sadly at Kyo. “Yes dad, is it bad that I followed this kitty.” Kyo shook his head as he ruffled it gently. “I mean you seem to be agitated by his company.”

Kyo shook his head. “No, it is not.” Kyo gave his nervous smile. “…it is nice to be together. Do not worry your dad will appreciate the company.” Quietly he petted the calico cat who purred at his ear. “She seems nice and lucky.”

Before they could say something. Kyo routinely checked his bag and lunchbox, knowing that Tohru

Hajime raised an eyebrow on these words as he saw the main gate of the school. Of course, Hajime felt an overwhelming sense of fear. Kyo glances at him quietly. Kyo swallows those words into his heart “Hajime, no matter how the day goes, you always have a home.”

“And mum too!” Hajime beamed Quietly “and little brother Kaze!”

“I cannot forget Kaze-Kun!”

“Yes”

Kyo smiles as Hajime waves him goodbye. “Bye, dad!”

“Bye!”

--- Meanwhile, Kyo walked back to the dojo, his head above the clouds. At last, he did not have something alienating in mind and he thought of Tohru. He wonders what is it is like to enter a new school with Kyoto. Was it scary? Was it bitter? Was it joyous?

For him, Kazuma’s grin kept him consistent despite his fear to enter a new school chosen by the god. Quietly he decided to pick up his phone and called Tohru.

“Hello..”

“Ohhh hi!!!”

Tohru’s voice brought him life. “Ohhh I just put Kaze to sleep, he seems fussy today. Maybe I should bring him to the dojo. And oh! Oh! Do you have food yet? I should I should…” Kyo could feel her anxiety within the phone conversation.

“I should be fine…I could grab a takiyaki or dingo at the distance.”

“Oh, that is good. How is Hajime doing?” Kyo could hear a giggle at the distance.“I think…I think…” Kyo found his eyes welled with tears. “He will do just fun if he ever feels alone or angry….he…” Recounting that advice stung his heart, Shish is always there with a warm smile when he finished school warmed his heart. He has a home. And he wished for Hajime the same.

“He is always home,” Tohru reassures him quietly. “He will learn to be hurt and to be strong. He is never alone. Who knows he will have a smile at his face when he recounts his adventures.”

“Are you sure?” A quiver came over his throat.

“I am sure. You brought him well.”

That gave him an assurance that Hajime will be alright. After all, new beginnings will come to them.

Animals and the Paranormal

Can dogs see ghosts? It’s a common question, and something even movies explore. And it may be that animals have unique connections to the paranormal.

But even people who believe in an afterlife and the possibility of ghosts are often skeptical when it comes to the idea of spirit animals. They don’t have souls or spirits, goes the argument, and therefore cannot have a life in the next world. But cats, dogs, birds and other animals are made up of the same energy that humans are, and it may be as possible that this energy can survive death, just as it can for people.

Anyone who is close to their pets will testify to the psychic connection they share. Psychic energy and spiritual energy may all be a part of the same phenomenon, and so animals might have as much of a connection to the unseen world as we do.

Maybe more. Animals not only may appear as ghostly forms, they may also be more sensitive to the proximity of spirits, alerting us to what we cannot see for ourselves.

Dogs can be just as sensitive as cats when it comes to sensing the unseen. People have reported their dogs growling at unseen beings, acting protectively towards their owners, or cowering from spirits.

Animals, with their intense hearing and senses of smell, may indeed be able to sense other beings that humans cannot.

The ghosts of animals may be as common as the ghosts of humans. There are many reports from people who have sensed, felt, smelled, heard and even seen the spirits of recently departed pet

Besides animals sensing ghosts, it is possible to come into contact with the ghost of a dearly loved pet. Many owners have reported feeling their deceased pet’s presence in their homes. For example, in times of crisis, individuals have said they felt a comforting warmth, similar to the feeling of a pet curling up in your lap.

Others have reported hearing the jingle of their pet’s collars, long after the dog or cat passed away.

In fact, there have been incidents of deceased pets making their presence known, even to strangers. Guests at hotels with a reputation for hauntings have experienced phantom barks, meowing noises, and even feeling as if an animal brushed by them.

While animals are sadly cursed with shorter lifespans than humans, they may have other senses that help compensate them. With their exceptional sight and hearing, they may be able to sense spirits that humans cannot see. Even after death, our beloved pets may still linger, giving comfort and protection long after the die.

So the next time your pet acts strangely, staring at an unseen object in a corner or growling at nothing, consider that he may be able to see something that you cannot.
