Just finished "I hope this doesn't find you" by Ann Liang. Y'all have no idea how long I waited for this and it was definitely worth every second of the few hours I spent reading it (I couldn't put it down).
I couldn't help notice the similarities between I Hope This Doesn't Find You and Maid Sama so I'm gonna list all that I remember here
Academic rivals/enemies to lovers
School captains/ Class president
All four of them are amazingly talented at everything; curriculars, co-cirriculars, extracirriculars
Sadie/Misaki both work really hard at whatever they do, they shoulder the world's burden, they would "dance on flames just to keep everybody entertained"
Sadie/Misaki have an after school job
Which brings me to, and this need not be said, the social class difference (working girls, rich AF boys)
Sports week (need I say more? Cuz I will)
Sadie/Misaki ran most of the races for their barely competent teams while their competitors had a physically fit team with Julius/Takumi as their leader
Julius/Takumi are the runts of their families
Getting hosed down in school wearing 'white' shirts
He fell first, she didn't catch on/refused to admit it
He only has eyes for her. Literally. Julius/Takumi give off strong demi vibes
“There’s nothing—nothing I resent more than when people feel sorry for me. Because I don’t need it. I’m fine. I’m perfect.” ~ Julius Gong
This describes Julius/Takumi so well
"You’re smart and good at everything and you’re totally hot in this kind of successful future-executive way—" ~ Abigail
Here is Abigail giving a totally valid description of Sadie/Misaki

Thanks to @ireadyabooks for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review
✩💌💻Review:
This is the second ya rom-com I have read by Ann Liang and I cannot get enough of her writing!
“I Hope This Doesn’t Find You” follows Sadie Wen, the perfect student who channels all her frustrations into her email drafts. While some are addressed to her teachers and classmates, most are directed at her infuriating co-captain Julius Gong. When they are accidentally sent out, her carefully crafted reputation begins to crumble. But amidst the chaos, the one boy she is sworn to hate begins to fall for her true self.
I have never connected with a character as deeply as I connect with Sadie Wen. I felt so seen by her need to be perfect and her people-pleaser tendencies. Julius calls her out for being fake, because she never allows herself to express how she truly feels, and she undergoes so much growth because of it. I loved seeing her begin to prioritize herself towards the end.
Julius and Sadie’s relationship is top tier. The pace of the romance in this book is so deliciously slow with the most satisfying pay-off. Liang takes her time in establishing their decade old rivalry, even going so far to explain its origins and the point system attributed to it. It felt so real and her gradual blurring of the line between loathing and love is so well done. I especially enjoyed reading the contents of Sadie’s emails after Julius committed them to memory because they are what made them both come to the realization that they were meant for each other.

Okay, Cupid by Mason Deaver
Tumblr media
From the bestselling author of I Wish You All the Best, the story of a cupid who thinks they know everything about love . . . until they fall in love themselves.
As a cupid, Jude thinks they understand love a little bit more than the average human. It makes sense -- Jude's been studying love their whole teen life. And, yes, there have been some bumps in the road, and they're currently on probation for doing something that they absolutely, definitely shouldn't have done . . . but they're ready to prove they can make matches without ever getting involved.
Only . . . Jude's next assignment isn't about setting up two adults. No, this time Jude has to go to high school, with kids their own age. And the assignment is a tough one: two best friends who are meant to be more than just best friends . . . but who aren't currently speaking to each other after a huge falling out.
Jude thinks they've got this one all under control, and that they won't get involved whatsoever.
Which proves that maybe Jude hasn't learned the first lesson of humans and love . . . It’s complicated.

I Hope This Doesn’t Find You by Ann Liang
Tumblr media
Unforgettable, snarky, and romantic, I Hope This Doesn't Find You is Never Have I Ever meets To All the Boys I've Loved Before if Lara Jean wrote hate emails instead of love letters.
Sadie Wen is perfect on paper: school captain, valedictorian, and a "pleasure to have in class." It's not easy, but she has a trick to keep her model-student smile plastered on her face at all times: she channels all her frustrations into her email drafts. She'd never send them of course -- she'd rather die than hurt anyone's feelings -- but it's a relief to let loose on her power-hungry English teacher or a freeloading classmate taking credit for Sadie's work.
All her most vehemently worded emails are directed at her infuriating cocaptain, Julius Gong, whose arrogance and competitive streak have irked Sadie since they were kids. "You're attention starved and self-obsessed and unbearably vain . . . I really hope your comb breaks and you run out of whatever expensive hair products you've been using to make your hair appear deceptively soft . . ."
Sadie doesn't have to hold back in her emails, because nobody will ever read them . . . that is, until they're accidentally sent out.
Overnight, Sadie's carefully crafted, conflict-free life is turned upside down. It's her worst nightmare -- now everyone at school knows what she really thinks of them, and they're not afraid to tell her what they really think of her either. But amidst the chaos, there's one person growing to appreciate the "real" Sadie -- Julius, the only boy she's sworn to hate . . .

London On My Mind by Clara Alves

Red, White & Royal Blue meets A Cuban Girl's Guide to Tea and Tomorrow in this unlikely London romance by debut author Clara Alves!
Sixteen-year-old Dayana has always dreamed of visiting London -- to walk along the Thames, take pictures outside Buckingham Palace, and maybe even get a glimpse of Arthur, Prince of Wales, whose marriage has been all over tabloids. But the trip of her dreams turns into a royal nightmare when her mother passes away. Now, Day must leave Rio de Janeiro to live with her estranged father and his new family in London.
As it turns out, the U.K. isn't exactly Day's cup of tea. She struggles to forgive her father for walking out on her and her mom all those years ago; fights with her stepsister constantly; detests her stepmother; and she can't even see One Direction in concert because they've been broken up for ages. All she wants to do is trade the rainy skies of London for the sun and beaches of Rio.
That's when she runs into the girl of her dreams -- literally: The coincidentally named Diana, a witty, funny, redhead who was in the middle of . . . escaping Buckingham Palace? Something isn't right here, but it makes Diana all the more alluring. As time passes, and the two girls grow closer, Day can't help but wonder if there is more than a little truth to the rumors surrounding Prince Arthur -- and if Diana might be involved somehow. Is it all in her head, or could Day be caught up in a real-life royal scandal?

Okay I’m back on my bullshit so hear me out.
The entire third novel (using the original division, not the Seven Seas division) presents us with situations of devotion gone wrong, but none of these people mirror Xie Lian’s upbringing as much as He Xuan does. Both were well loved by their communities, dutiful sons to their families, and had everything good stripped away from them by misfortunate circumstances orchestrated by someone else. Both are haunted by a spectre that drives them to madness by illuminating their failures and faults.
But Xie Lian was shown kindness and saved for it. No one reached out to save He Xuan. He was truly stripped of everyone who could have been an anchor for him. I really believe, even more than White No-Face, He Xuan is what Xie Lian could have become if he hadn’t been given the hat before witnessing Wu Ming’s sacrifice — a ghost in constant mourning, who’d destroy the only good thing he found after death if it meant righteous retribution on those who wronged him.
I think Xie Lian would recognize some of this in the wake of the events of TGCF. I think he’d make an effort to be kind to him if they crossed paths. I think he’d keep his mouth shut whenever He Xuan visits Shi Qingxuan in disguise, but smile knowingly when SQX isn’t looking. I think he’d invite He Xuan to large gatherings, even if he almost never comes. I think they’d see grief and regret in each other that others don’t and find a strange kinship from that.
[takes off Disco Elysium hat, puts on TGCF hat] I think Xie Lian and He Xuan should be friends.
