Summary:

Freshly bleached hair in a messy ponytail. Possibly too much makeup for an early morning and a soccer game. Proud posture, tightened fists, and ragged breathing. Her blue eyes would have been described as icy by anyone else but, to Laura Lee, they looked warm enough to burn.

And the burn scars from that first meeting she knew she would carry with her forever.

Natalie didn’t step closer and offer Laura Lee a hand. For this, part of Laura Lee was grateful. Natalie had already made a strong impression. Laura Lee had no idea what a simple touch from her would have done to her heart. But, also, God, Laura Lee thought, she would have given everything else in her life at once for a chance to prolong that moment with the girl of the beautiful face, angry eyes, and heart big enough to start a fight on someone else’s behalf.

My opinions on Lottie ships because she's shipped with basically everyone (my qualifications are that I'm a lesbian)

Btw I have no clue if some of these are the real ship names but I just chose what feels right to me

(🦝) Lottienat:

- I LOVE LOTTIENAT. First season I didn't see it much, I had heard a bunch about them but I didn't personally ship it until season two, I think they have soo much chemistry and some pretty gay interactions (THE BATH SCENE). Such a cool ship though, and I love them in the adult storyline as well. Nat's whole "is that what we are?" line is very interesting, because it could be interpreted as they were more or less than that and I think they're so confusing and so interesting and I need more of them in S3 so bad.

(🐑) Lottielee:

- I adore Lottielee with my whole heart, I can never choose between Lottielee and Lottienat. Lottielee is sooo special to me and was my first ever yjs ship. I think their whole dynamic could've been so interesting to explore, and Laura Lee haunting Lottie all the way to her adult years is so interesting. Laura Lee was the one making Lottie believe she wasn't crazy and I think that's so beautiful. Rich girl and Christian girl just make sense I swearrr. I have soo much I could say about them so lmk if you want my in depth thoughts on that.

(🐻) Shautie:

- I don't have many thoughts about this ship besides how much I love the ship name. I think they could have an interesting dynamic, Shauna being more of a leader in a general way and Lottie being a leader in the wilderness/cult way. Ugh and the whole Lottie taking a beating from Shauna so she could let out her pain was so emotional. I think I could definitely explore them more. I'd definitely have to read more about them to actually have a big opinion, but two sad brown eyed girls always make for a good looking duo.

(🐰) Jackielot:

- Honestly, I donttt ship this one very much. I think I could probably hear someone out if they talked a little more about it but I can't really think of any scenes that could lead to that, and I don't believe that their dynamic would be too interesting or unique, and there's definitely better ones, but I don't hate it! I still think there could be potential, and if they had maybe explored it a little more I'm sure I could see it better.

(🐺) Tailot:

- I definitely see these two as more best friends but I wouldn't completely put this ship off the table. Taivan will always be my favorite Tai ship of course but I still think these two could have pretty cute potential. I think their dynamic is a realllyy good one though, the non-believer and the prophet cult girl hellooo omg. I might just have a bad memory (I usually only focus on the ships I personally ship) but I don't remember very many scenes between them besides for the ones where Lottie is defending Shauna against her. Still though, I think they're cool asf.

Though, I feel like I have a pretty generic taste so maybe this isn't as interesting as some others. Although, feel free to send in asks about certain ships and I could give a full explanation on those (please lottielee I have so much to say). Natalie looks from Jackie to Lottie, to Laura Lee. “Someone tell me what the fuck is going on, right now.”

This time, it’s Lottie who speaks, and it surprises everyone in the circle. “It’s in all of us,” she repeats, sounding giddy. Her voice turns suddenly dark despite the smile still plastered on her face. “Even him, even you.” 

Natalie takes a step backwards and Laura Lee watches as fear overtakes her as well. She doesn’t understand why they’re all afraid of Lottie-- the taller girl would never hurt any of them. This obviously wasn’t her. Something was happening to her but Laura Lee wasn’t going to let it take her away. Lottie was special, Lottie was chosen. She was holy and Laura Lee would bow at her feet if it meant proving to everyone else that she was no one to balk at, no one to fear.

“Nat,” Laura Lee says, finally releasing Lottie. That was, apparently, a mistake. The girl races forward, towards Natalie, too fast for anyone around them to register, especially Natalie herself. Lottie’s hand snags Natalie’s wrist and tugs the smaller girl into her, wrapping her free arm around Natalie’s waist to hold her in place.

“He isn’t important,” Lottie says to Natalie, who is struggling her hardest to keep the anger on her face. No one else moves. “We don’t need him. It doesn’t need him.” Natalie jerks against Lottie’s grip but the taller girl is much stronger than her. “You don’t need him.”

That’s apparently the last straw. Natalie is instantly sobered up and she shoves Lottie roughly, causing the taller girl to let go of her and stumble backwards, falling onto her ass. Lottie erupts in loud giggles again. 

“That’s enough of your weird bullshit, Lottie!” Natalie cries out, rounding on the girl. Laura Lee moves, then, too, and stands between the other blonde girl and the brunette on the ground. “Move,” Natalie growls, fists curling. 

Laura Lee shakes her head, stands up taller, jutting her chin out. She’s taller than Natalie, but only by a little bit. Still, she gazes at her down the bridge of her nose. “Leave it, Natalie,” she tells her, and it’s the strongest and most present Laura Lee has felt in weeks. “You wouldn’t understand what’s going on with her.” 

Natalie looks like she wants to shove Laura Lee, too, but her eyes flick so quickly to her burns before returning to her gaze that Laura Lee almost thinks she imagined it. But she didn’t. Natalie grits her teeth as hard as she is gritting her fists. “Whatever it is you think you know is going on,” she says, then, low enough to where Laura Lee is pretty sure only she and Lottie can hear her clearly, “you don’t. You might be Lottie’s knight in shining armor out here, but some of us cared before she became--” Natalie gestures wildly at the laughing girl on the ground-- “this.”

And because it’s Natalie and she can’t just leave well enough alone, she makes sure to bump Laura Lee’s shoulder as she strides off in the direction Jackie had pointed out Travis left in.

Things don’t feel any better than they had a moment ago, but Laura Lee lets out a long breath, sinking to her knees beside Lottie. “Lottie,” she says, reaching out for her. She feels as if she’s losing her and she sees Jackie marching off in the corner of her eye as Shauna stands like a statue next to the stump that was now an altar. “Lottie…come back to bed with me, please.”

Lottie just laughs some more, laying flat on her back and spreading her limbs out to form a star shape. “She’ll see,” Lottie says, that grin pulling onto her face, crooked and drunk, “she’ll see I’m right. Soon enough.” She’s nodding to herself as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world. “Soon enough.”

It was the apocalypse.

Technically, the rest of the world was probably fine but, to these twelve girls, for months and months, their entire world had been reduced to the space surrounding that little cabin in the woods. And their world was on fire.

They stayed and watched it burn for a little too long. The fire was mesmerizing, and they failed to recognize the full depths of the tragedy and the threat it was. It didn’t make much sense, and it shouldn’t have happened like that. Only a force more powerful and beyond human understanding could have been responsible for the fire spreading as fast as it did. The wilderness was killing itself, and it was taking them down with them. 

The first one to go missing was Travis. They were trying to move away from the cabin and the fire that was rapidly closing down on them. They were determined to survive, convinced that it wasn’t too bad, but at every turn, they were met with a new wall of fire. Soon, trees started falling all around them, blocking their path toward the frozen lake. Soon, Mari went missing, Melissa caught fire, and a tree fell on them, separating the group in half. Van was lost to the fire trying to reach Taissa. One by one, they were all separated, eaten by the fire, and lost to the darkness. Every path to the plane and the lake was blocked. More trees started to fall, and the ground started to shake. It wasn’t right. It wasn’t a coincidence. It was the will of the wilderness.

When it dawned on them that there was no way out, Lottie and Laura Lee realized they were all alone. Maybe Shauna went back to the cabin, maybe the scream they heard in the distance was Nat, maybe the shadow burning away was Coach Scotts. Either way, it was all going to end. Their world had given them all it had to give, and now it was crumbling all around them. 

The two girls were clutching each other impossibly tight. Laura Lee was hiding her face tucked in against Lottie’s neck. But, somehow, under the roaring of the fire and the thunder of the trees falling around them, Lottie felt peace. Suddenly, she couldn’t hear any of it except for Laura Lee’s rapid breathing and her even faster heart beat. 

“Laura Lee?” Lottie whispered her name, because she felt like her whole world had been cut down to just her and Laura Lee in that intimate and desperate embrace.

Against the odds, Laura Lee heard her loud and clear, as if finally, in the end, Lottie’s odd perception of the world was available to others too.

“Lottie? Laura Lee said as she pulled back just enough to look at her. “I’m scared.”

“Don’t be,” Lottie reassured her with a gentle hand cradling her cheek even if she could hardly shake off her own terror. “Don’t you see? The bad part is over. This is a new beginning.”

Laura Lee wore a sweet frown of light confusion. “Do you believe in heaven?” Laura Lee asked, because the last few months had messed more than a little bit with everyone’s perceptions of faith, but mostly with hers.

“I believe in you. I believe nothing can pull us apart,” Lottie said. It was a promise more than anything else. And she sealed that promise by slowly guiding Laura Lee into a perfect, final kiss.
