Don't tell the Sadducees, but this is another "Tomics Resurrection", where I've taken an old comic from the dead and brought it to life anew. I read the Sadducees were the sect of Jewish leadership more closely related to wealth and status, while the Pharisees were more focused on the religiousiness of religion. For this reason, I made the Sadducees in this new version dress in purple and gold, while the Pharisees might be redesigned to appear in more muted colors. We'll see! In the meantime, how do you think this compares to the original?

Did you know that there are two alternate deleted endings to the Celes/Seresu arc? Fai gets killed at the end of the arc in the first one and the 2nd one, he is left forever waiting for Kurogane to come back to save him from the magical bubble that he was trapped in as the world was closing. Kurogane tries his whole life to find a way to save him but doesn't succeed. (Clamp mentioned it on Twitter and an old interview.)

That's the exact kind of heart wrenching tragedy I would expect from the older Clamp narratives! The drama of it all!

I for one am very glad they considered those endings but ultimately broke their own pattern and went with a narrative that is all the stronger for it. They've done tragedy enough that breaking the trend is even more impactful, especially in a story like this, and how it adds to the overall theme they've built so far.

But VERY delicious to consider all the same.

Just to add on to my last post:

As someone who lost their father before I could form lasting memories of him, I am fucking starving for stories about him.

I beg to hear the same ones over and over and over again because it’s the only way he’s alive for me. I have no memories of my own—snippets, images—but that’s it. Maybe that’s why Harry was so relatable to me growing up. I felt like I was just as hungry for stories about James and Lily as Harry was because there is something powerful about learning about the people who loved you.

People are so afraid of upsetting you when you’re a child; they think that talking about a dead parent is going to make you sad, and you have to practically beg people to tell you stories. And the people who knew your parent die and take the stories with them, and you’re left with nothing. People treat you like you’re glass when you’ve suffered a tragedy. My friends would apologize whenever they talked about their dads, and I would roll my eyes and have to comfort THEM. “It’s okay!” I would say. “It’s okay you have a dad! You’re allowed to talk about him!”

I think that’s what is so sad to me about Remus and Harry. Remus didn’t have to adopt Harry or send him presents or anything. He could have told Harry stories about his parents and that would have been enough for Harry. But Remus was terrified of being rejected, so he never let Harry get close. It’s actually decent storytelling and characterization!

The way how in We Know the Devil the couple you choose to go with always finishes the ending by pretty much confirming the worse insecurities of the girl who got excluded, Venus and Jupiter still keep trying so hard to remain good kids that they can't even hear Neptune anymore, Venus and Neptune hold hands without any effort without even trying like Jupiter did so hard in the only way she could bring herself to, Jupiter and Neptune look at each other the way they can't ever look at Venus

Just... the way that in the blue ending when the narration is from Venus + Jupiter's pov and they say they "won't let her stain" them referring to being "stained" with her "impure" but valid feelings, with her rage at being treated so poorly by those around them, they won't let those thoughts in because they want to be the good kids out of the bad ones and Neptune never did and even when she talks to them afterwards nothing she says will ever get through to them again. They chose to stay clean. The way the achievement for the blue ending is called "Lukewarm, I spit you out" and is the only one named after a Bible verse, and it's one about how spiritually "hot" people are active in their faith and spiritually "cold" people "can still be strongly influenced" but someone like Neptune who knows just enough to intentionally reject the word of god is the kind of person that "deserves" to be "spit out" like a lukewarm drink

The way that in the red ending when the narration is from Neptune + Venus pov they say they chose to be distant from her that they affirm time and again they had no idea she could possibly be going through so much turmoil that she'd turn out to be it, this sudden storm, and it's not because they were upset at her they at the end of the day just don't understand, they want to, because how could she possibly have had all those feelings deep inside her? They're safe from her storm, it does not break over them, in that moment together they no longer share in all that turmoil from Jupiter's at all. Their view of her may not be admiration but it's still so unreachable and unfathomable and distant from her true feelings and that way she'll forever stay. The way the achievement for the red ending is "No prince for the princesses" and Jupiter is the designated "tomboy" out of the three of them, how she's the one trying the hardest to keep this strong front and always do the right thing and help the other two but "always messes it up" in fundamentally misunderstanding what they needed in the end they didn't even need her to be all that for them because they needed each other and not her

The way that in the yellow ending when the narration is from Neptune + Jupiter pov they say they chose to hide their faces that they're the only ones to escape Venus' light because they do not see her the same way she sees herself, "he's" a poor unfortunate friend of theirs that they'll feel guilty for having to fight against but that simply wouldn't ever fit into this new freedom they found for themselves in each other, they can see their light their way out of this camp but Venus who wants so bad to see her light has it taken away from her with every time they stare into each other's eyes a bit too long, everytime she's suddenly invisible even when physically close and looked directly at they still see right through her true self. The way the achievement for the yellow ending is called "Help me God, I'm in love" and how the lights always appear when the other two are acting close, how Jupiter accidentally falls with Venus to the ground but instantly helps her up and turns her attention entirely back to Neptune right away and how afraid Venus is during this whole thing she just wants them to allow her that moment of "weakness" to be herself with them while all they want is their way out and not have to deal with the devil at all, all she wants is to embrace it

Need volume 10 so I can get the Blake and Yang vs Tyrian match up of my dreams

You got Yang, whose semblance relies on her taking the hit. Who’s been shown over and over to use her own body as a shield so that her loved ones don’t get hurt. She’s been able to use it as more than a last resort in more recent volumes but it still requires her to store up the energy by taking the hit while her aura is gradually depleted.

Then you’ve got Tyrian, an incredibly good close quarters fighter like Yang but with an acrobatic ability closer to Blake’s and a semblance that cuts straight through people’s auras leaving them completely vulnerable. Burn is completely irrelevant if Tyrian goes for a lethal hit the first opportunity he gets

Blake on the other hand relies on her semblance to avoid taking the hit. She can create space for herself, put herself in a better position, and if she uses dust trap or hurt enemies with it. We’ve seen Blake avoid hits that would’ve killed her multiple times. If he can’t even hit her Tyrian’s semblance doesn’t mean shit

I want to see Blake just lose it again like she did at Neo for a bit after Yang fell but this time she doesn’t have to worry about Cinder. Let Blake be a little ruthless vs a serial killer. As a treat. I want to see this fight as a set up for Blake and Yang to finally talk about Yang’s self sacrificial tendencies.

So in the fic Giyuu is on the brink of death and hallucinating Sabito during his near death experience. I can’t decide between these two options and need your guidance!!!!! So:

Propaganda:

-Appearing as a child drives home the idea that Sabito wanted to become a man so badly and helped Giyuu become one but he himself will be just a boy forever. Bringing in that running out of time motif, the wasted “somedays”. Added bonus of appearing exactly as the day Giyuu lost him, which hurts.

-Appearing as an adult (specifically a Hashira) would accentuate a previous passage about how Sabito always used to talk about what he’d do when he became a Hashira but it never happened. Added bonus of the implication that Giyuu never truly accepted his death and always envisioned HIM as the Hashira, which also hurts

It’s soooo crazy that people truly believe nick’s real feelings are he wants to eat abi 😭 crazy as fuck you hear a guy say “you don’t care about me” and “easy pickings, right off the bone” in the same scene and yet focus on the second half while also conveniently forget he’s turning in to a RAVENOUS WEREWOLF. He’s being taken over by the wolf, who has an insatiable hunger because of the curse bestowed upon humanity after the actions of foolish, greedy humans. He’s the only one to transform in front of their (canon) crush, so it would make sense that the territorial, animal side would highten his uncertain, romantic feelings for abi even more and then become possessive because it doesn’t care about her feelings but nick’s feelings which the curse is amplifying and distorting through its hunger. take two seconds to think about it please. Nick is extremely insecure and was hiding his true feelings (the insecurity). That’s what we are supposed to gather from that scene. He was putting on an act of confidence but he truly believes abi, and based off what he says no one, doesn’t nor has ever cared about him. He thinks he doesn’t measure up. He thinks he has no worth because he doesn’t know his own worth. Nick is a very complicated guy and it’s so disappointing how people give the most surface analysis of him to this day, it’s a huge disservice. Remind me to never be cursed in front of any of y’all lest you think the monster inside me is speaking objective truth and y’all turn on me for it lol 😭
