Good Morning Good Night, Sachiko M / Toshimaru Nakamura / Otomo Yoshihide (2004)
No wonder Good Morning Good Night angers so many – music rarely tests the recorded form like this. Sachiko M, Nakamura and Yoshihide work their strains of experimentalism into the sounds of the everyday, intermingling life with digital buzz and vice versa. One’s experience is totally dictated by circumstance; so life shifts, as one never lives the same sounds twice, so no two listens of Good Morning Good Night are alike.

Im rereading the first volumes of nana and man 🧍I have a lot of conflicting thoughts about nana and shoji's relationship but ultimately i cant not feel bad for her, its so despicable of him to cheat on her like that
#m#nana#no spoilers ive only read the first 4 volumes or so#but wow fuck shoji#i know nana is not perfect and her flaws can be very damaging to her relationships#but its insane that they held together even when they were in a ldr and now hes throwing everything out the window for some chick#like at least break up w her before cheating#also fuck sachiko too. she knows he has a gf but still decides to go after him#nana does not deserve this at all

Filament 1, Otomo Yoshihide & Sachiko M (1998)
Filament 1 grips most in moments which harness the entire low end of the sonic spectrum (of which plenty is no doubt entirely inaudible) into proper, identifiable rhythms. Not entirely gripping, but certainly in parts, it is surely one of the most approachable records in the onkyo genre.
Pick: ‘Filament 1-1’

Thoughts on wurmple??
Might as well answer this while also doing the TCG ranking for the Wurmple family because I've had four seperate requests for them (and only one of them was anon, so it's not like it was even one guy spamming anon)
Anyway Wurmple is a really cute design and I honestly think it's my favourite of any of the early route bugs. Also one of the first shinies I ever caught! Managed to hold on to Purmple the Wurmple all the way from my old Emerald version, I still have it.
Not as big a fan of its evolutions, I feel like they missed the mark hard on the coccoon forms, some of the most underdesigned mons they ever made. I like Beautifly and especially Dustox, but I've never used either in a playthrough, since RSE give you so many good options off the bat and they're kinda. Incredibly weak.
Not expecting megas or anything but I hope GameFreak some extra love at some point.
Anyway cards! I'm gonna do 15 since I'm covering 5 entire Pokemon here.

Lingthusiasm Episode 99: A politeness episode, if you please
If it wouldn't be too much trouble, if you have a spare half hour, could we possibly suggest that you might enjoy listening to this episode on politeness? Or, if you've prefer a less polite version, "Listen! Now!"
In this episode, your hosts Gretchen McCulloch and Lauren Gawne get enthusiastic about what politeness and rudeness are made up of at a linguistic level. We talk about existing cultural notions of "saving face" and "losing face", aka the push and pull between our desire for help vs our desire for independence, and how they've been formalized in a classic linguistics paper. We also talk about being less polite to show intimacy, addressing God in English and French, which forms of politeness are and aren't overtly taught, different uses of "please" in UK vs US English, levels of indirectness, email etiquette across generations and subcultures, rudeness and pointing, nodding norms in Japanese and English, smiling at strangers in the US vs Europe, and how a small number of politeness ingredients can combine in so many different ways that are culturally different.
Click here for a link to this episode in your podcast player of choice or read the transcript here.
Announcements:
In this month’s bonus episode we get enthusiastic about science metaphors and learning everything with Tom Lum and Caroline Roper, cohosts of Let's Learn Everything! We talk about whether programming languages should count as a language credit, numbers and ritual stock phrases like seventeen and "once upon a time", as well as etymology and metaphor in ecology, chemistry, and linguistics. We also talk about turning the "constantly trying to figure things out" part of your brain off, attending the word of the year vote, and how linguists have a tendency to be curious about language all the time, which... sometimes gets us into trouble.
Join us on Patreon now to get access to this and 90+ other bonus episodes. You’ll also get access to the Lingthusiasm Discord server where you can chat with other language nerds. Looking for a last minute gift for the language nerd in your life? Or are you trying to get someone in your life to love linguistics as much as you do? Patreon have newly added a gift memberships feature!
