Gyaku Shaun Sai Hanri / Ace Arftorney ENGLISH PATCH (VER. 1.0)
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS VERSION 1.0. THE EXTRA BONUS CASE HAS NOT BEEN TRANSLATED YET. THIS POST WILL BE UPDATED WITH A VERSION 2.0 DOWNLOAD ONCE THE BONUS CASE HAS BEEN TRANSLATED.
Thank you all who have waited patiently for me to translate this game! It was a lot of fun. Please support Cheshire, who now goes by Oota Manta, for creating this game! (here is his pixiv - MAJOR R-18 WARNING)
For this game to run properly, you MUST either set your computer's locale to Japanese or use a locale emulator.
EDIT: SPRITE PAGE.
DOWNLOAD LINK (INTERNET ARCHIVE)
Below are some translation notes (spoiler warning)
This was my first ever major translation project. Since it spanned the time of almost two years, the quality of the translations may increase as you play through the game. Nonetheless I have gone back and redone a lot of the earlier dialogue with the help of a friend to make it sound more natural in English. If you find any errors or typos, you may leave an ask and I will correct it in a patch update.
In order to keep the spirit of an actual Ace Attorney game, several things were changed. Most notably, the characters names.
Names:
稲刈たんぼ (Inekari Tanbo) is Phoenix Wruff. People familiar with the Japanese Ace Attorney names may recognize that this name is nowhere near Naruhodou Ryuuichi. That's simply because this character, as with Edgewurrth, were not actually named after the main characters of the original series. I decided to change this given their clear homage. Inekari Tanbo literally means "harvesting (a) rice paddy".
条框蓮司(レンジ) (Jyoukamachi Renji) is Miles Edgewurrth. To be honest, I don't think there is a pun in his name. At the very least, I had trouble thinking of what it could be. If somebody knows, let me know. The most I can figure is the first kanji in his name can mean "streak", and according to Cheshire, Edgewurrth was supposed to get the white streak of hair, not Abe, but he didn't like how it looked on the former.
萬舞 (Man Mau) is Krystal "Kris" Balle. Her name means "10,000 dances", hence her English name.
濡沼 ウキモ (Nuranuma Ukimo) is Ashley Goodhead. Ukimo doesn't seem to have much significance as a word, although it could be related to 浮き which means to float, as in like, floating in water. I say this because the other parts of Ukimo's name, 濡(Nura)沼(Numa) refer to being wet and to swamps.
If this is true, why the name choice? Well, it's very complicated...
濡 Means a little more than just being wet. It also can mean being wet in the sexual sense. There's also the word 濡れ衣 (Nuraginu) which means to be falsely accused of a crime (literally and archaically "wet clothes"). Both these I would say fit Ukimo, not only because of her story position of being falsely accused, but also, well... just look at her design. It would be naive to claim there's nothing sexual about it.
沼 has some connotations among gaming, interestingly. It can mean being addicted to something (that something being a piece of media, typically) or being "swamped" in a game, i.e being stuck and unable to progress.
Now, this meaning of the word has only come into play somewhat recently. Like, 2015-ish. Which makes it sort of inapplicable, since Gyaku San was created around 2003.
A different slang use of 沼 that was used around this time was 池沼 which means, basically, the r slur... in a way? It's used to make fun of "weird" or "cringe" behavior, typically present in those with mental disability. It's a homophone of 知障, which does mean "mental disability".
With all this in mind, I had a very hard time piecing together a name for Ukimo that would feel at home in Ace Attorney. Especially because I don't know the full extent of what Cheshire had in mind when naming her.
Ashley was chosen given that, to me, it is a very "popular teenage girl" name. "Ash" would also make her closely related to "Phoenix". (Get it? LOL). I almost debated on making any use of ウキモちゃん (Ukimo-chan) be "Ash", but decided it would be kind of weird...
Goodhead was chosen for several reasons. It, of course, is a clear sexual pun, but it is also a reference to James Bond, something I feel could encapsulate some of the slang meanings of 沼 (media obsession) while serving to imitate Ace Attorney's love of pop culture references. "Goodhead" could also be taken literally, as in meaning she has a good head on her shoulders, which would refer to her being innocent; the "false accusation" meaning in her name.
It was the best I could do. Orz.
阿部伊知郎 (Abe Ichirou) is Abe Founder. He kept the first part, although his last name became his first name, and his original first name means "The one wise son". However, without the kanji, "ichirou" can mean to fail your college entrance exam. Considering that he lies about going to a prestigious college when he actually went to a average one reminded me of this, so his last name was chosen to hold similar meaning. "Founder", as a noun, can mean someone who establishes something, and typically this is used with positive connotation. However, as a verb, it can mean "failure", which I think is apt and captures this stark contrast meaning.
Many things in the game were changed to better be understood by a Western audience, such as obscure Japanese pop culture references and suchlike. The backwards poster bit was the hardest, but I managed to pull it off. In short, Ashley's - or Ukimo's - poster originally was a reference to an old Japanese song (likely) that had さんさん(san san) written. When read from the back, さ looks like ち(chi). The "look dood" poster said 犬さんぽ in the original, which means "dog stroll". But when read from the back, it looks like 犬ちんぽ which means "dog penis". I did my best with this, haha.

Review Proper
I can’t believe Yamanaka Hiko’s been terrorizing me for over twelve years now. OH MY GOD I’M SO OLD. And true to the Yamanaka Hiko brand, this turned out to be another fantasy masterpiece (read His 500 Years of Suffering Romance). This was definitely the type of thing that would do great even without the BL aspect of it. Now, I did have an issue with Kidou being an asshole (he's almost killed Yoshino more than once), so I’m not excusing it. But I do get how and why he turned out to be like that and I'm aware that it's important for his character development. The world-building was great, don't get me wrong, but it's definitely dubcon 2015. I would strongly advise you not to get into it if that's a deal breaker for you.
Anyway, onto the voice work.
Souma used a tone so close to Gucci's that I kept imagining Gucci being Yoshino. Yes, I didn't read the manga while listening to the BLCD. It was like after graduating Karasuno, Gucci went on to become a teacher, then a donor lmao. His Yoshino panics more like Honda-san, however, so my final verdict is that his Yoshino is half-Gucci, half-Honda-san.
This isn't Nakajiki and Souma's first rodeo, but I'm glad to say that their performance/dynamic here is different from Mikeneko and XL Size. I expected Kidou to be a mix of Amano and Anaconbayashi-kun 'cause the former was cocky and the latter was stoic, but Kidou was only 50% of that mix and 50% brooding, suffering, I'll-protect-you top. Am I even making any sense? Again, I listened to the BLCD first, but the sound direction they gave Nakajiki was very different from what I thought he'd sound like after I read the manga. It’s almost like what happened with OnoD’s expressive Hasebe-kun in the Kotonoha BLCD vs the more stoic Hasebe-kun in the manga.
The voice work of our two leads was 👌. This might just be my fave out of their pairings 'cause the sex isn't over-the-top like XL Size and Mikeneko. I will say that I wasn't completely sold on Yamashita Seiichirou as Shibata-san 'cause I feel like he speaks too slowly, but I'm sure it'll grow on me by the time I listen to their spin-off. KawaKen was fine. My heart broke for him every time Shibata-san rejected him, so it's safe to say he's got Taki-kun down already.
Tumblr media
Oh. I did have a slight issue with the sfx too. Why was it so watery??? Lmao. Even r18 otome cds aren't that wet. But it's not so glaring that it'll turn you off.
The BLCD was almost perfectly accurate to the manga. I highly recommend this to those learning mid to higher levels of Japanese. Futekiya has licensed volumes 1 & 2, so please try to support the official release if you can. I'd be lying if I said that I agree with how they translated it so... literally?, but I think it's also important to see how things are translated that way if you're aiming to dip your toes into translation aside from studying the language. For example, they used "Living God" throughout the manga instead of "Ikigami." It's correctly translated, but I personally prefer retaining the original title. You know, like how Viz uses "Kaiju no. 8" instead of "Monster no. 8?"
God knows if I'll ever survive the spinoff that I wanted to work on. I avoided talking about it for a reason lmao. Anyway, if y'all liked this, then please give 500 Years (Ono Yuuki x Suzuki Tatsuhisa) and Shortcake no Ichigo Sawaranaide (Nojima Hirofumi x Takeuchi Ken). These two are android bls and Ikigami to Donor is more guide bl, but they both share a futuristic vibe.

Shinichi won't be able to live without Ran
So as a crazy fan of DC we come across waaayyy too little Shinran content especially after Gosho Aaoyama has slowed down the release and lots of other secondary characters getting the highlight. The progress is just beyond slow and frustrating and we get only some random bread crumbs here and there simply because of op and endings and that too is getting repetitive and over used as a lot of many other DC fans have ranted over.
But it sometimes does have a few moments which in retrospect have a much bigger impact if you think about it in the long run of the series and Conan admitting and doing things which he does without any hesitations for Ran.
Movie 1 - The time bombed sky-scraper - Shinichi is literally ready to die with Ran without any other thoughts. He is legit okay with a suicide rather than living on without her. And no it's not because of guilt that he put Ran in danger, but because he chooses her over everything else. Quote - "I will stay right here till you cut it Ran. If we die we die together."
Movie 13 - The Raven chasers - When he talks to Kouske- san (the guy who loses his girlfriend to fire and plans to commit suicide), Conan says he understand how he (Kouske) feels. He understands the loss of will to live without the girl he loves. Now in all honesty it is a conversation between a 7 year old and and man in his late twenties. Can you imagine the intensity of Conan's expression when he says that he understands the loss of a lover to an adult man? And manages to come through to him. Kouske does not mock him or belittle him as to what nonsense a 7 year old is saying but rather connects with him. Because a grieving heart recognizes another. Because Shinichi Kudo loves Ran Mouri, enough to die rather than live without her.
Movie 17 - Private - eye in the distant sea - When Ran falls in the sea and the search party is unable to find her even with all the equipment. They say the maybe the radio-watch has already sank under the sea. Ahem* Ran has drowned* Ahem. Conan is shocked to his core to the point he even questions himself in being a detective. "How can I be a good detective if I cant even find Ran?" Now Sherlock Holmes is someone Shinichi worships like god, his inspiration, his dream to be a detective everything comes from this fictional character, but the loss of this woman shakes him so badly that in an instant he loses complete faith in himself. Loss of oneself is is as good as living like a corpse. Not too mention the immensely grateful and the relived smile as he thanks Kogoro.
Shinichi is completely transparent when it comes to his feelings for Ran.
The detective boys tease him in his interest towards Ran. Like even freaking kids are picking up on his infatuation towards Ran.
Sonoko has already claimed that Conan is interested in Ran multiple times, which Ran passes off as a joke. But in the desperate revival arch Ran seems to be clearly treating Conan as Shinichi which Sonoko immediately picks up.
Kogorou too has multiple times seen Conan blushing and embarrassed when the topic of Ran having a lover comes around. Like come on even Kogorou!!!
During the mountain villa murder case (the introduction of Sonoko) when Oota- san attempted to flirt with Ran. Well I dont even need to elaborate do I? Conan is beyond elated when Ran specifically defends him from being called a brat and thanks him protecting her. His smug look towards Oota is priceless. It is legit a 7 year old elementary school kid challenging a man in university.
Eisuke was literally told to back off by Conan himself. In his jealousy he didn't even care as he revealed his identity to him. He reveals himself only when it's safe till he knows the real identity of Kir and Eisuke but even before that Conan's jealousy is as plain as day. He doesn't even try to hide it in any of the cases. Not to mention the sugary sweet smiles he would pass to Ran when she would pay attention to him
Also the time when Sera was introduced and Conan still didn't know if Sera was actually a 'she'. He literally calls as nonchalantly as possible to ask about and to top it all off it was actually the DB who noticed Conan being agitated at the thought of "Ran-neechan was walking with some boy they didnt know."
Movie 22 - Zero's enforcer - Where do I even begin with this one? The entire plot of the movie literally happens cause Amuro traps Mouri which puts Ran in distress which in turn makes Conan desperate enough to solve the entire situation, just so Ran can be at ease again. Not to mention Amuro himself confessing that if his Ran-neechan gets involved then Conan would of course meddle in.
Movie 24 - The scarlet bullet - Now Sera and Mary are kind of wary of Conan, but Conan has mostly understood the situation. So when he openly calls out to Ran in front of Sera, especially in a way as man would call out to his beloved and he doesn't even flinch away or pulls her away from Sera's gaze. almost as if staking his right over Ran, like, Yes, I have the full right to call her intimately like that. Not to mention he cant see her hurt at aaallllll. The golden lines "You are mine to protect." Not in a male chauvinist way but as someone who feels honored to protect her because Ran as a character pretty much does not depend on anyone. She can hold off on her own.
NOTE - The above drawing is NOT mine. All the credits to the artist.

ok so luckily the translated vocal track collection was saved to archive. but the cd drama wasnt but i do have the description and images linked in it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
nd here's the final Iron Leaguer treat, Drama CD from 1993. The story (called Superstar Segal's Iron Hustler) takes place sometime during the Stray Leaguer arc. Some of the background shouting could be mistranslated as it was hard to hear at times. Here's translated text from the booklet that came with the CD: "About the Drama CD - Written by Nishiwaki Hiromitsu 20.9.1993. The recording of Iron Leaguer Drama CD was done at the APU studios in Shibuya. There's content for about 30 minutes, but making it took 4 hours. On that day, 15 voice actors had gathered. For an anime series that's a lot of people. Iron Leaguers, even though they're sport robots, are mostly men and there were only two women, Ruri's voice actor Yokoyama Chisa-san and Georgie's voice actor Shouyama Yukari-san. It was a rather shabby view (althought saying that is rather rude...). But still, the recording of the drama proceeded smoothly. Director Amino-san, sound director Kobayashi-san, producer Minami-san - their communication was very calm. Televising had already been going on for half a year, and the cast's teamwork didin't lose to Iron Leaguers. This work is overall only meant to be a CD story. If I'd have to call it something, then an "extra story". Because there's no pictures, everyone can make their own visions. Although I said there's no pictures, the director Amino-san made some sketches for scenery creating. This time they're not playing baseball or soccer, but billiard. Dark Foundation's Giroti's Son Segal's directing is also a fun add. You can get a different taste from what's seen on TV. Oota Shinichirou-san also acted Sharkys, whose lines were mostly "Maa! Maa!". It puts a strain on his voice as he repeats it many times. Normally one's voice would be all damaged after that, but pro is truly different. One after another, he keeps his voice. Magnum Ace's voice actor Matsumoto Yasunori-san and Mach Windy's voice actor Okiayu Ryoutarou-san had a lot of lines where they had to be shouting. Same for Georgie and Ruri. At the yelling climax, all the voice actors had great intensity. The series' theme is usually fair playing and fieriness, and I guess being honest doesn't even have to be mentioned, but this is a bit di~fferent than the Iron Leaguers on TV, I wonder if you'll enjoy it. For Iron Leaguers' spirit to be supported again another time, I hope there'll be more CD projects like this." Here's scans of the sketches from the booklet: (images Above) Translations and timing by my friend. Video by my sister. That's it for Iron Leaguer, but remember to keep your oils boiling and spirits burning! Shippu! Iron Leaguer belongs to Sunrise.

Akio Takamori (1950 – 2017) was a Japanese-American ceramic sculptor and a faculty member at the University of Washington.
"My mother phoned recently to notify me of the death of the Koishiwara potter, Oota Kumao, with whom I apprenticed from 1971 to 1973. His death made me reminisce about my last twenty years. Even though the twenty years seems short, the time brought a young, inexperienced man to be a middle-aged person who, at the time of the calI, was thinking of the next twenty years with humility.
Twenty years ago, my first purpose in studying ceramics was rather vague. All I knew about my future was that someday I would set up a pottery production shop near my parents with their help. I believe this idea was also my parents’ wish. For two years I went to an art school in Tokyo as an industrial ceramics major, and for two more years I apprenticed at a domestic production pottery in the village of Koishiwara under Oota-san. My knowledge, however, was narrow and my skill limited.
At least I had a feeling that there was something out there when I saw the catalog of the Contemporary American Ceramics show that was held at the Kyoto Modern Art Museum in the 1970s. I still remember clearly Henry Takamoto's ‘Tree" on the cover. I saw Melcherf's "Grotesque A" and Richard Shaw's piece with a big boat sinking in a couch."
