I like to imagine she entered a costume contest, with the goal of winning against Cleo specifically, and used her adorable purple cat to basically guarantee her win.

Haikavember Day 3: Feast

For as long as Kaveh can remember, Alhaitham has always had a knack for showing affection through his cooking.

At first, he didn’t realize what he was doing. The very first time Alhaitham cooked for him, Kaveh poked at the food with his fork, contemplating the probability of it being poisoned. It was something Alhaitham called ‘an improved version of sabz meat stew’, but it was beyond recognizable. The flat, pizza-like substance had very few similarities with the sort of stews Kaveh was familiar with, not to mention the addition of an actual word written on it in herb sauce.

“Just try it,” Alhaitham had said, so Kaveh hesitantly took a small bite. It was unlike anything he’d ever tasted before.

To his complete and utter shock, it was delicious.

After that first time, Kaveh gained a little more trust in Alhaitham’s cooking, though the message Alhaitham was trying to convey kept flying over Kaveh’s head for a while. At first, there was ‘Contemplation’, written on what Kaveh eventually helped Alhaitham rename ‘Ideal Circumstance’. 

More dishes followed, each decorated with a singular word: Observation, Companionship, and right about the time Alhaitham was about to lose patience, as he later told Kaveh, Adoration.

Kaveh thought about that last one for a good while, even after he finished eating the meal Alhaitham prepared for him that day. He couldn’t fathom what Alhaitham’s understanding of adoration might encompass, much less who or what might even elicit such an emotion from him—after all, in the realm of Kaveh’s imagination, the only thing he could envision Alhaitham adoring was books, and he was positive he felt no need to remind Kaveh of that fact. It was also possible Alhaitham wasn’t talking about himself at all. For all Kaveh knew, he could have been practicing his calligraphy using random words (and sauce).

“There is a saying in Mondstadt,” Alhaitham told him when Kaveh finally confronted him about the cryptic messages he’d been leaving all over Kaveh’s dinner. “They say that love goes through the stomach. I hope that answers your questions.”

Kaveh mulled over Alhaitham’s words; he even consulted a couple of dictionaries for usage examples of the saying, but ultimately felt like he was interpreting too much into it. After all, there was no way it was that simple, right? It wasn’t like Alhaitham to try and tell Kaveh that he had feelings for him in such a roundabout way.

And still, Kaveh couldn’t shake the thought once it had been planted in his head—and for a while he was convinced that he was losing his sanity, because Alhaitham’s runic dinner embellishments didn’t stop. In fact, they were starting to get more direct every day.

Kaveh thought about how to best broach the topic with Alhaitham, how to convey how these little gestures were making him feel. At first, he didn’t think much of it, but as days bled into weeks, he knew he could no longer brush his own feelings aside. The simplest dishes started feeling like scrumptious feasts to Kaveh, and not only because they tasted good. He felt like each bite he took warmed his insides, each word consumed unraveling into unspoken confessions. 

In the end, Kaveh felt like there was only one way to go about it. He decided to try and emulate Alhaitham’s strange way of communicating with him—so one night, after Alhaitham had taken a seat at the table, Kaveh served him a portion of omelet rice, the word ‘Trust’ carefully written in ketchup standing out vibrantly against the gold of the omelet. It took him a good chunk of courage to write it out, but it felt right—just as Alhaitham had been giving him all these little hints about how he was feeling, Kaveh wanted to give something back. Something he hadn’t been able to give Alhaitham for a long time. He was willing to try again.

Kaveh sat across from Alhaitham with his own plate of food (sans ketchup-lettering), nervously waiting for Alhaitham to comment on Kaveh’s creation.

And comment Alhaitham did, but not until he had polished off his entire dinner. Kaveh almost thought he wasn’t going to say anything at all, but when he walked around the table to collect Kaveh’s empty plate, he felt Alhaitham’s hand brushing against his shoulder.

“Thank you,” he said, the corners of his mouth upturned. “It means a lot to me.” Then he stepped away from the table to do the dishes as if nothing had happened, leaving a red-faced Kaveh behind, his heart hammering in his chest.

After that night, writing messages on each other’s meals became a common occurrence in their shared household. Even after Kaveh plucked up all his courage and confessed his feelings to Alhaitham properly, the tradition stuck. 

Today, too, Kaveh finds himself smiling down at the dinner Alhaitham brought him to his work desk. Written in tomato sauce, mild as Kaveh likes it, four letters complete the dish: ‘Love’.

i typically main ash but i also dabble in maggie, catalyst and wattson every so often! i just think she's an overall well rounded character especially after the tact buff. plus, she's sick as hell and has arguably some of the best skins imo.

for characters i hate, hm... definitely rampart but not because of her personality or story or anything. i just fucking hate her sheila. also bangalore, mostly because i find not a lot of people know how to utilize her well?

as mostly an assault legend main i really like the new class system. i love being able to hold more ammo and the loot boxes are super awesome. plus, we run pathfinder in our comp as well so the new care package passive is amazing for rotations!!

ranked is going decent! me and my dou got plat 4 last split and we're working to at least match that again! right now i'm halfway to gold 2 but i also haven't been playing much because of work.

also yes i am watching pro league! honestly aside from lan i only really watch na and emea so the an/as teams i'm less familiar with. that being said, in na i'm definitely cheering for 100 thieves (cause scuwry is canadian), complexity (again, cause lewda is from vancouver), and nrg. for emea, i'm rooting for alliance and phoenix legacy (because as far as i know sabz is the only female in algs, not including challengers circuit?)

Pickled Green Plums

I wandered into Toranj Persian Market in late May while waiting for a restaurant to finish my pickup order. I was delighted by the wall of jams and preserves! The very helpful shopkeepers asked if they could help me, and I bashfully answered that I was just curious. They asked if I would like to buy the special of the week, and showed me a clamshell of small ping pong ball -sized green fruits.

They looked like tiny apples with their tiny stems still on, but on closer inspection, had a subtle cleft running from stem to bottom.

"What are they?"

The answer came in Farsi.

"Sorry, could you write that down for me--in Farsi or in English?"

And so a paper was produced with some writing in Farsi and below it, "goje sabz" and "green plum." They are under ripe fruits: sour and astringent.

"We like to eat it with a bit of salt," he said, "or with, um, fresh herbs. You take a bite of plum, and a bite of herbs. Or you dip it in salt."

I was fascinated, and purchased the pound of fruit for $10.

At home, I gave the fruit a rinse and took a bite, careful to avoid the pit. It was quite tart and astringent! It tasted exactly like the skin of a Granny Smith apple: green and sour and dry--but with none of the appley sweetness I half-expected to accompany it.

I sprinkled a bit of salt for the next bite, which somehow both intensified and mellowed the sharpness of the sour. This was delightful! But, unfortunately, I have a hard time biting into fruit (bad teeth).

I did some reading and decided pickling or brining might be the solution for me (ba-dum-tss).

I found this recipe by Family Friends Food and adapted it my tastes. I liked the idea of coriander, but used a piece of cassia bark instead of anise. I also added a bit of salt preserved lemon, a piece of dried toasted chili, and dried lemon thyme to the brine.

When I made this batch, I poured the boiling water over the fruits, which caused them to yellow:

This first attempt was too salty; I drained the liquid (reserved the solids) and replaced it with a less salty brine, amended with a touch of vinegar.

The second batch I made (using this modified brine), I cooled the brine first, so the fruits didn't discolour as quickly:

I let them pickle for two weeks. I'm very pleased with the results! They've still got a nice crunch, and the flavours work very well together.

The first batch retained their salt. I'm considering combining the two batches in one jar and hoping they even out--but I think that is unlikely. I've since added a teaspoon of salt to the second batch instead!

My Formal looks: Party Wear 2018 Pakistani Styles

Recently I posted some photos of my formal looks. And I started getting personal messages about posting a full picture of the dress I was wearing, or the jewelry or the shoes etc. And someone even asked which salon did the magic. So, I thought why not a post of my favorite formal looks along with the detail of the outfit, jewelry, make up, hair style etc. So, I am going to write the best Party Wear 2018 Pakistani dresses Ideas for all of you. I am sure you would love to explore some trendy styles.

So here I am presenting to you my 5 favorite formal looks for different wedding occasions. I have tried to include as much detail as I possibly could. I hope that it serves the purpose and shall collectively answer many of your questions. If you still have some questions or if you think I have missed something, please let me know by commenting below. Moreover, do not forget telling me which look is your favorite and why.

As I usually go for soft looks, so here is the round up for the same.

Look # 1 – Traditional Pink Embroidered Shirt with straight trouser

  This look is from a walima that I attended. I had short hair then. And because I was wearing pink so I requested the make up artist to keep my look just very soft. And I think she did a pretty good job.

Dress:Bano Bazaar ,Faisalabad Pakistan

There are very good shops and lovely designs in Bano Bazaar. Because Faisalabad city is the hub of cloths and clothes related trends. If you ever get a chance, must visit. Also, it offers you a great window of negotiation. If you are a good negotiator, you can end up buying something really cool at a very reasonable price. My tip is to visit different shops and get the feel of the market before you buy. When you need the best party wear dress like salwar kameez, short kurtas, Ferrara, Garara then you would be able to explore a wide variety  there.

Makeup and hair style: New look beauty salon, Lahore

My experience at New look was very good. Staff was very considerate. The make up artist was very good and was actually listening to what I wanted. But I think it’s a bit over-Priced. I paid around PKR 10,000/- for this.

Shoes: I wore silver wedge heels from Insignia with this dress. Heel was not very high

Jewelry: I wore silver jewelry. Ear rings, necklace and 2 wide Bangles (1 in each hand).  Its my mother’s jewelry though. I borrowed from her for the day. Haha

Look # 2 –Angrakha style Peach Party dress 2018 with straight trouser and detailed different color patches of the plum dupatta borders

This look is from a mehndi function in family. As I was expected to move around a lot to greet guests. So, I kept my dress light in weight yet added some embroidery and little bit of style with different color patches at borders of my Dopatta.

Dress: Liberty Market, Lahore

If you are not a regular buyer at Liberty Market, just keep in mind that its almost a replicate of Bano Bazaar. It also has very good margin of negotiation. Just never give up on high price. You can find many shops offering good work in reasonable price.

Makeup and Hair style: Hifsa Khan Salon, Lahore

I loved their service. They are so quick and so considerate. My make up was done by a junior artist named Shazia. I loved her work. She added a detail of shimmer in my eye makeup although I asked her not to. But she insisted saying it will look great and later I liked it too. I don’t exactly remember the hair stylist, but I tried different hair stylist at that saloon, at different times and I loved it every time. It was totally affordable as well. I paid around PKR. 5000/- for this.

Jewelry: I wore just Jhumkay with this. Jhumkas were from a random shop in Liberty Market at its back side

Shoes: I wore stoned Khussa. It has two colored stones both silver and Golden. It was from KhussaMehel, Liberty for around Rs 3500.

 Look # 3: – Traditional full embroidered very light green straight shirt with straight trouser

This was for a Barat Function in Family.  It is one of my favorite party dresses 2018. Let’s break down the stuff for you

Dress: From liberty Market Lahore (A shop situated on the front circle of the liberty market)

Make up and Hair style: Sabz Lahore.

Make up was done by Qasim in Sabz. I think he does not work there any more. Anyhow , the hair style was by one of the hair stylists. He was good. Told her what to do and she made this. Which turned out good as well.

Shoes: Medium high golden heels from Insignia

Look # 4: – Red Sari Look Best Party Wear Dresses 2018

It was also for a walima function in family.

Dress- A shop in liberty with amazing Indian design saarhis. On the front circle of the market.

Makeup and Hair Style: Araamish, Lahore

Make up and hair style both were done by Khurram in Araamish. Although may people say that lip color should have been sharp, but I am happy with this.

Jewelry: Long Jhumkay from Anarkali, Faisalabad

Shoes: Medium high golden heels from Stylo

  Look # 5: Purple Sari look Pakistani Designer Wear

This was also for a walima function.

Dress: Saarhiby a home-based designer who was kick starting her work and was referred by someone in family. I kept this saarhi full sleeves. The blouse was full embroidered.

Make up and Hair style – Hifsa khan salon,  Lahore

Make up was done by a senior make up artist. I got my hair chopped that day and got them real short to this length. Hair style was done by someone from hair style section. However, all the hair stylists at Hifsakhaan are equally good.

Jewelry:I wore silver jewelry. Ear rings, necklace and 2 wide Bangles (1 in each hand). Fun fact about this jewelry is that it belongs to my mother.

Shoes: Silver wedge heels from insignia
