not me straight up making a spreadsheet to figure my Rook plans out lmaaooo gonna keep Osirus and Narra as they are, and probably just do another Shadow Dragon/Save Minrathous run later in the future. I'm just attached to Osirus being both a Shadow Dragon bc I have a Mourn Watch plan already, want my Veil Jumper to be an elf, and don't really care about the lords soorrryyy AND because I made him with the intention of romancing Lucanis, so he's just gonna have to be haunted by his choice (much like Narra choosing the "wrong city" as a Warden).
I probs won't be doing these all in a row, I want to finish my Trevelyan inky run, and I've started my da2 playthrough for my fresh worldstate so that'll likely include another inky.
I think I need to rejig my new Rooks romances and story choices.
Narra, a Grey Warden, let Treviso fall to blight bc I was doing an "opposite decisions" playthrough. But a Grey Warden knows the danger of the blight, she wouldn't let a trade city suffer that. But if I save Treviso, it's the exact same as my last playthrough. But it makes sense as a Warden.
Osirus, my Shadow Dragon saboture, was gonna romance Lucanis, but that means he would be choosing Treviso over Minrathous as a Shadow Dragon and that also feels wrong?? But if I choose Minrathous, I lock myself out of Lucanis..
Maybe I should change it so Osirus is a Lords of Fortune Saboture or put Narra's save on the backburner and turn Osirus into a Mourn Watch Reaper. I just really like him as a Shadow Dragon so I have to either let Minrathous go, change factions, or change who I'm romancing ugghhfnfnfk
#this took entirely too much of my brain power#I just.. I wanna a saved Minrathous AND Lucanis romance!!!!!!#I know I can mod it but >:( dont wanna cause you still have a hardened lucanis#and my brain keeps getting stuck on certain pairing choices being “unbreakable”#warden background = save treviso bc blight#shadow dragon background = save minrathous bc thats your home!#saboteur = shadow dragon#veil jumper = elf#like these don't have to be true literally the only thing set in stone is the Lucanis romance restriction#my brain just doesn't want to accept it lmao#I genuinely didn't know you could romance a hardened Neve I thought her and Lucanis's harden was the same#and I don't particularily want to do a Harding or Taash romance right now#and I made Narra to be a warden who romances Davrin (now tragically because if I'm gonna stick to my regrets playthrough)#(I gotta choose Davrin for the distraction team *sobs*)#I don't think I've ever planned this much for anything let alone a video game LMAO#dragon age#da4#datv#veilguard#datv spoilers#da4 spoilers#veilguard spoilers#narra thorne#Osirus Mercar

Struggling with Rook concepts. I think part of me was holding out hope for an Ambassadoria-adjacent background for dwarves, and something more directly associated with Par Vollen/Seheron for qunari since our last qunari protag was Vashoth and raised in the Free Marches. Normally I find it easy to brainstorm Dragon Age OCs but lately.... blerp.
#qunari mage shadow dragon or lord of fortune is tempting buuut very much like my inquisitor#i think a dwarven grey warden would be fun? bring the games full circle#antivan crow dwarf saboteur also sounds like a good time#but nothing really calls to me yet#it doesn't help that i don't have a clear Favorite in the romance department either bc that could at least tilt the scales#not a rant. just musing#dragon age the veilguard#dragon age#rook

Dragon Age: Veilguard | The Ultimate Preview Summary
shinobi602 on twitter shared this amazing in-depth summary of all new information about the game that we have so far:
Coming to PS5, Xbox Series X and PC in Fall 2024
Consoles: Quality and Performance modes (60FPS)
Photo mode is confirmed
Fully offline single player, no EA account linking, no micro-transactions'
Play as a human, elf, dwarf, or Qunari
Choose your backstory, 6 factions to choose from when you create your character, all with "deep roots in Thedas": Antivan Crows, Grey Wardens, Shadow Dragons, Veil Jumpers, Lords of Fortune, The Mourne Watch
Each faction offers 3 distinct buffs each, like being able to hold an extra potion or do extra damage against certain enemies, and the odd reference in dialogue
You can customize your Inquisitor from Dragon Age: Inquisition in the character creator and "make a few key decisions that will impact how The Veilguard begins"
There are some "killer cameos" from past games that show up
Warrior Class: Use a sword and shield or two handed weapon to send enemies flying
Rogue Class: Utilizes quick movement and reflexes. You can wield a bow or dual swords with "powerful, precise strikes for lethal damage"
Mage Class: Use magic to incinerate, freeze, electrocute and crush. Some cast from afar, while others prefer close quarters combat
Each class also has 3 sub-specializations, such as duelist, saboteur, or veil ranger for the Rogue
Classes also have unique 'resource system's, for example, the Rogue has "momentum", which builds up as you land consecutive hits, and each will always have a ranged option
One Rogue momentum attack is a "hip fire" option we saw for the Rogue's bow, letting you pop off arrows from the waist
Another momentum attack for the Warrior lets you lob your shield at enemies
Quests are more handcrafted and mission based, curated with alternate paths, secrets to discover and optional content
There are also open ended explorable areas
Party size of 3 during combat, ala Mass Effect
Combat is focused on real-time action, dodge, parry, counter, "sophisticated animation canceling and branching", using risk-reward charge attacks designed to break enemy armor layers
Enemies have elemental weaknesses and resistances, and you can chain together elemental combos for extra damage
One example is a squadmate using a gravity well attack to suck enemies in, another slowing them down, and the player then unleashing a big AOE attack
You don't take direct control of companions like past Dragon Age games, but you can still pause and issues ability commands for you and your allies
There is a hub area for the player like Skyhold and the Normandy, called The Lighthouse
Companions can eventually start romancing other characters if you opt not to romance them
Each companion also has unique missions tied to them that play into the larger story
Nudity confirmed - romance scenes can get "a little spicy"
"Incredibly deep" character creator: 5 categories including: Lineage, Appearance, Class, Faction, Playstyle
Players can also choose different body sizes and shapes
Dozens of hairstyles to choose from, with "individual strands of hair rendered separately and reacting quite remarkably to in-game physics", pulled from EA Sports
Character creator lets you adjust the lighting so you can be sure your character looks good
The team wanted to balance the look of the game with both light and darkness. "When everything is dark, nothing really feels dark. For this one, we really wanted to build that contrast again."
Skill tree is "vast", you can also set up specific companions with certain kits, from tackling specific enemy types to being more of a supporting healer or flexible all-rounders
There are tarot cards you go through during the character creation process that will let you choose decisions from past games to implement into Veilguard
The team teases you may lose some characters during the story
#i found this super helpful because there was so much that you kind of lose track and get overwhelmed#dragon age 4#dragon age#dragon age: the veilguard#da:tv#vg: dragon age 4#series: dragon age

New today on DA:TV from Game Informer, 'Breaking Down Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Classes And Factions':
"Breaking Down Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Classes And Factions by Wesley LeBlanc on Jun 25, 2024 at 02:00 PM "As part of the character creation process for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, players will have to select both a class for their player-controlled Rook and a faction. After customizing much of your Rook's body, including things like a Qunari's horn type and material, for example, with the hundreds of options available in Veilguard, it will be time to pick said class. [embedded link to DA:TV reveal trailer] There are three classes to choose from: Rogue, Mage, and Warrior. As the names suggest, each features a unique combat system and plays differently as a result. Though you’ll be performing things like light and heavy attacks using the same buttons, what those attacks do varies based on your class. For example, a sword-and-shield Warrior can hip-fire or aim their shield to throw it like Captain America, whereas a Mage can use that same button to throw out magical ranged attacks – read more about the combat of Veilguard in Game Informer's exclusive feature here. Plus, as you spec out these classes and unlock their individual specializations, the differences will only grow even more stark. - The Rogue has access to three specializations. The Duelist is the fastest of the three, with two blades for rapid strikes; the Saboteur uses tricks and traps; and the Veil Ranger is purely range, sniping enemies from afar with a bow. - The Mage can utilize necromancy with the Death Caller specialization; Evokers wield fire, ice, and lightning; and the Spellblade uses magic-infused melee attacks. - The Warrior can become a Reaper, which uses night blades to steal life and risk death to gain unnatural abilities; a Slayer, a simple but strong two-handed weapons expert; or the Champion, a tactical defense fighter. While these specializations don't matter upfront – you class into them via the skill trees you progress through the game – it's nice to see the potential of each class before you choose it."
"For the penultimate step of the character creator, at least during the demo BioWare shows me, players select a faction. The Grey Wardens return, joined by other returning favorites and new additions like the Antivan Crows, the Mourn Watch, the Shadow Dragons, the pirate-themed Lords of Fortune, which is what I chose in my demo for the current Game Informer cover story, and the Veil Jumpers. Each faction has unique casual wear, which is worn in specific cutscenes when the character isn't donning armor, and three unique traits. The Lords of Fortune, for example, gain additional reputation with this particular faction, have increased damage versus mercenaries, and perform takedowns on enemies with slightly less effort. Veilguard game director Corinne Busche says this faction selection, which ties into your character's backstory, determines who your Rook was before, how they met Varric, why they travel with Varric instead of their faction, and more. "The message of The Veilguard is you're not saving the world on your own – you need your companions, but you also need these factions, these other groups in the world," creative director John Epler tells me. "You help them, they help you now.""
"He says BioWare wanted to avoid the trope of needing to gather 200 random resources or objects before helping you save the world. Instead, the team aimed to create factions that want to help you but have realistic challenges and problems in front of them so that narratively, it makes sense why you help them in return for their help when the time comes. "Gameplay-wise – each of our classes has a specialization, and each of them is tied to a faction," Epler continues. "But beyond that, each faction has a [companion] as well as [people we're calling agents, ancillarily] who exist as the faces of these factions. We didn't want to just say, 'Here's the Grey Wardens, go deal with them.' We wanted characters within that faction who are sympathetic, who you can see and become the face of the faction, so that even if there are moments where the faction as a whole may be on the outs with you, these characters are still with you; they've still got your back." [old version of this paragraph] If you find yourself unhappy with your lineage or your class, you can change them using the Mirror of Transformation, found in the main Veilguard hub, The Lighthouse. You can also change your Rook's visual appearance there, too." [new version of this paragraph] If you want to make changes to your character's physical appearance, you can do that with the Mirror of Transformation, found in the main Veilguard hub, The Lighthouse. However, class, lineage, and identity are locked in and cannot be changed after you select them in the game's character creator. [Editor's Note: This article previously stated players can change their physical appearance, class, lineage, and identity using the Mirror of Transformation. That is incorrect as class, lineage, and identity are locked after you first select those. The article has been updated to reflect that, and Game Informer apologizes for any confusion this mistake may have caused.] For more about the game, including exclusive details, interviews, video features, and more, click the Dragon Age: The Veilguard hub button below."

fascinated by the fact that in this article’s screenshots of the skill trees, each specialisation has one of the faction symbols next to it. reapers and death callers have mourn watch, slayer and saboteur have lords of fortune, spellblade and duelist have antivan crows, evoker has shadow dragons, champion has grey wardens, and veil ranger has veil jumpers. what does it all mean

Dragon Age Specialization Variation Between Games
So I was noticing something, and so I decided to do a count on all Dragon Age specializations per game, and came up with some interesting stuff.
First off, the data:
Warrior:
Champion: 3 (Origins, Inquisition, Veilguard)
Templar: 3 (Origins, 2, Inquisition)
Berserker: 2 (Origins, 2)
Reaver: 3 (Origins, 2, Inquisition)
Guardian: 1 (Origins (Awakening))
Spirit Warrior: 1 (Origins (Awakening))
Reaper: 1 (Veilguard)
Slayer: 1 (Veilguard)
Rogue
Assassin: 3 (Origins, 2, Inquisition)
Bard: 1 (Origins)
Duelist: 3 (Origins, 2, Veilguard)
Ranger: 1 (Origins)
Legionaire Scout: 1 (Origins)
Shadow: 2 (Origins (Awakening), 2)
Artificer: 1 (Inquisition)
Tempest: 1 (Inquisition)
Saboteur: 1 (Veilguard)
Veil Ranger: 1 (Veilguard)
Mage
Arcane Warrior: 1 (Origins)
Blood Mage: 2 (Origins, 2)
Shapeshifter: 1 (Origins)
Spirit Healer: 2 (Origins, 2)
Battlemage: 1 (Origins (Awakening))
Keeper: 1 (Origins (Awakening))
Force Mage: 1 (2)
Knight-Enchanter: 1 (Inquisition)
Necromancer: 1 (Inquisition)
Rift Mage: 1 (Inquisition)
Death Caller: 1 (Veilguard)
Spellblade: 1 (Veilguard)
Evoker: 1 (Veilguard)
That is the count of each named specialization per game, with me counting Origins and Awakening as the same game.
Notably, the no specialization has been in all 4 games. I initially thought Champion was in all 4, forgetting that it was Berserker that carried over to DAII. Warriors overall just have the least amount of variation, as Champion, Templar, and Reaver have all been repeated over and over again. I'm not sure if Reaver and Reaper will be different/same/similar, but they did name them differently.
Mages come in with the highest variation. In fact, in DAII, mage was the only class that got a new specialization (Force Mage). All 8 other specializations were holdovers from DAO, with Shadow being unique in that it came from Awakening instead of base Origins. Shadow is also unique in that it's the only specialization introduced in Awakening to carry over to a future game. It's also the only class to have 3 brand new specializations in any single game, and it has done so twice (Inquisition, Veilguard).
Mages also have the gameplay pattern that has repeated the most with the most variation. Arcane Warrior, Knight-Enchanter, and Spellblade all build on the gameplay pattern of "hit people while also casting spells", but do it in very different ways, and with very different aesthetics.
The only repeats for mages have been Blood Mage and Spirit Healer, both of which are in base Origins and DAII. Rift Mage and Force Mage are pretty similar, but are definitely not identical.
Rogues hit this middle path, with only Assassin and Duelist being repeated in 3/4 games, with Assassin missing DATV and Duelist missing DAI.
Rogues also got the most unique new specializations in DAI, with warriors getting only repeats, and mages getting 2 specializations similar to past specializations and 1 that's just DAO/DA2 spirit tree. The Tempest and Artificers are entirely new rogue gameplay patterns unique to DAI.
From a game perspective, what we have seen is: DAII had almost exclusively old specializations, DATV is having almost exclusively new specializations, and DAI plays a middle ground of being almost half and half.
So yeah, that's me just having some fun and looking at class specialization variance across 4 games in advance of said fourth game coming out NEXT WEEK.

my two Rooks btw :)
Evren Mercar - they/them, mage, spellblade.
Vendela Thorne - she/her, rogue, saboteur.
a bit more info under the cut 👇🏻
~
Evren is a mage with an academic degree whose adoptive soporati parents relied on and used to achieve a higher social status. blinded by the venatori's promise of prestige and greatness, Evren almost joined the cult almost a decade ago. made many mistakes and left their old life behind, abandoning their studies, relationships, and privileges to join the shadow dragons to make up for what they've done under the venatori mentors' wing.
kind of a troubled mess and doesn't like talking about their feelings, of which they have plenty. drinks and fistfights their problems away. stoic and forthright, but is good with people. enjoys the beauty of poetry and can be quite a dreamer.
fun fact: Evren means cosmos/universe in turkish, and is the name of a mythological snake-like dragon :)
~
Vendela is a dwarven tinkerer from a village in tevinter that had struggled to defend itself from marauders for many years until a traveling group of grey wardens took care of the problem with the help of Vendela's arrows and explosives. inspired by their stories and their cause, she joined the order and spent a couple years in anderfels with other grey warden masters focusing on developing better artillery against the darkspawn.
she looks tough, but is sweet and gentle. extremely shrewd and can be quite cunning and calculating under all that niceness. cautious and always plans ahead. loves when things explode.
#still in the middle of ven's playthrough and i want to finish it before making art of either of them#just focusing on other stuff plus i need to do some work before i can draw for myself#soo here's screenshots instead. might share some more later if i feel like it#vik.txt#my ocs#oc: evren mercar#oc: vendela thorne

Dragon Age: The Veilguard warrior armour sets, ranked
The warrior sets are probably about as inconsistent as the mage sets, however, I did find some pleasant surprises here. There are definitely some very unexpected looks here, especially for a class that typically plays it pretty safe.
Unranked - starting armour
CLEARLY warrior Rook does not have a squire.
6. Grey Warden
Sorry Warden players you still get the most boring armour sets in the game.
5. Shadow Dragons
This should be heavy plate with a dragon on it and it isn't, so I simply cannot rate it any higher. Also this reads way more rogue to me than warrior - rogues need all those pockets, what's a warrior want with them? Update on this: I am 99% sure I saw someone playing rogue (a saboteur even!) wearing this armour so is it a mistake? I AM CONFUSION.
4. Mourn Watch
It's solid but across all the classes Mourn Watch is by far the least consistent in terms of having a defined look - they're not even in the same shades of the same colours. If you put them on a runway as a collection it would be called inconsistent because they don't look like they go together. It's disappointing because if we went by Emmrich's fits I would have expected something MUCH different.
3. Veil Jumpers
I do really like this even if it's giving dwarven made more than Elvhenan made, which is what they're going for with all the Veil Jumpers sets. Could still use some colour though.
2. Lords of Fortune
I'm not going to lie to you: after my temporary blindness wore off this look filled me with glee. Even looking at it now makes me incredibly happy. It's not because it's good, necessarily, in fact it's one of the most hilarious armour sets I've ever seen, but it does make me happy. But intellectually I cannot rate it number one, no matter how happy it makes me and how much that inexplicable bull head on the crotch makes me laugh.
1. Antivan Crows
I am obsessed with this. It has it ALL - impeccable goth vibes, dramah, beautiful feathers, bits of draped fabric for no reason, absolutely dripping with crow motifs. If someone came running at me in this I would be scared but also delighted.
Another armour update: I've been watching a lot of in-game footage of quests and have noticed that being a particular faction does not necessarily seem to lock you into that faction's armour styles - for example I saw a Crow wearing the rogue set for Veil Jumpers. I don't think I was mistaken but definitely take this as a grain of salt if it doesn't turn out to be the case in the release.
If you're interested in the rankings for the casual sets, you can find that here. Mage is here, and rogue can be found here.

Ooohoohoo~ Thank you @damallarky for taking an interest in the likkle chess set we're assembling! (*/ω\*)
We'd be more than happy to share the rough outlines of what we're hoping to make with all of them.
Listed from (our ideas of) oldest to youngest;
El'hari:
Tentative Age: early-mid 40s
Faction: Veil Jumper
Class/Specialization: Orb & Dagger Mage (Spellblade)
Romance: Davrin
Juls' will finally be getting an old dalish boy of their very own! We do want him to be a lil younger than Andros, though not by much. Think this will pair nicely with some of the information we've seen through the Veil Jumper background. We're unlikely to get it through the game-proper, but we LOVE the idea of Darvin n him calling eachother "Hahren" & "Dalen" respectively, teasingly. X3c Rather even-tempered and something of a cool customer otherwise, and someone who puts his people first. Be it his clan, the Dalish/elves at large or any given group he's charged with. Another fun and possible tension point with regards to another piece of faction based backstory. This will depend on how long the Veil Jumpers have been active, but maybe he thought he could do more for his people with the Veil Jumpers than by taking up the mantle as Keeper to his Clan. Essentially named "Eclipse", deriving from the elven words "Elgara" (Sun) and "Harillen" (Opposition).
Isska:
Tentative Age: mid-late 30s
Faction: Grey Warden
Class/Specialization: Two handed heavy weapon Warrior (Slayer)
Romance: Lace Harding
We'll essentially be attempting a Beta Von, Male Qunari redemption arc with him. He has a mind for more delicate interests but was pigeon-holed into being a heavy front-liner by the Tamassrans. His name is derived from the qunari words "Iss" ( which denotes an item to be of Veteran/Experienced level) and "Katari" (One who brings death) Making him a Tal' Vashoth, that left the Qun proper. Haven't figured out the specifics on how he joined the wardens yet.
Segwin:
Tentative Age: mid 30s
Faction: Mourn Watcher
Class/Specialization: Staff-wielding Mage (Death Caller)
Romance: Taash
Rather formal in both the way he speaks as well as the up-keeping of his person. Bit of an eccentric when it comes to discussions surrounding his field of interest; various biological and anatomical study via dissection and the like. An Excitable Mortician is what I mean to say and Big fan of Professor Volkarin (sat in on some of his lectures and what have you).
Ath'ema:
Tentative Age: mid-late 20s
Faction: Lord of Fortune
Class/Specialization: Bow & Arrow Rogue (Saboteur)
Romance: Lucanis Dellamorte
Fuckboy 1. Heavy on the teasing. Injured and loss use of this right eye during a mishap with one of his inventions/traps early in his career/journey as a saboteur. Ath'ema's name is derived from the elven words "Athim" (Humility) and "Emma" (to become). Be humble, it's ironic.
Sulehn:
Tentative Age: mid-late 20s
Faction: Lord of Fortune
Class/Specialization: Dual Blade Rogue (Duelist)
Romance: Bellara Lutare
Fuckyboy 2. Absolute Chad jock type. Myre's doing a "Shep n Von Redux" with these actual twin brothers of him n Ath'ema. Sulehn's name is derived from the elven word "Sulahn'nehn" (to sing, or rejoice) Both Sulehn and Ath'ema are absolutely decked out in tattoos and various piercings.
Iero:
Tentative Age: early-mid 20s
Faction: Antivan Crow
Class/Specialization: Sword & Shield Warrior (Reaper)
Romance: Neve Gallus
Short and a rather Hothead butch. A very "Ready, Fire, Aim" type character. Juls will be attempting a sort of Beta Venui Revival with this one (aka an aggressive tiny elf warrior with perhaps a dash of snark ).
Kellum:
Tentative Age: early 20s
Faction: Shadow Dragon
Class/Specialization: Orb & Dagger Mage (Evoker)
Romance: Emmrich Volkarin
Well meaning, in that he doesn't really think things through… or rather as far as he should be. Gonna make him a bit of a "problem-child" in that regard for Von (who we're gonna say is his personal overseer within the Shadow Dragon faction). A sensitive lad otherwise.
And that's what we got so far, again relatively rough and broad stuff that will be honed in and fined tuned when we dive into the game ourselves through the expected multiple playthroughs we'll need to get through all these romances (and then some).>:3c
Happy they've caught your interest all the same, and hope you'll enjoy them some more when we've gotten em locked down!

So, this character IS a dragon, but I'm submitting his mortal form to you to see what you do wrt a scry for him, because I want to make a FR dragon out of this guy and I keep getting stuck. Meet Clyf Rattleclock, or Clyfdormu, a bronze-colored dragon with some control over time and a pocket dimension library he lives in instead of interacting with people. He also works as a teacher.
I made Clyf Rattleclock/Clyfdormu from bi-nightmare's imagination in Flight Rising! And since I couldn't decide on what outfit to use, I did them both!

She wasn't the first of her family to break free from the subterranean domiciles belonging to those who counted their number among the Ambassadoria. Her mother had not been the first, either. Fueled by the hunger to be something other than a diplomat or a diplomat's bored wife, Kehda made her choice when she was barely sixteen years of age, and not once has she regretted that decision. She was — after all — destined to be more, destined to be greater than four stone walls. Rebellion brewed in the blood her mother gave her, tying their lives together more intimately than through such a simple thing as her birth. She was a mirror of the woman, and the magisters of Minrathous met the arrival of another mouthy, pale-haired dwarf with sharp-toothed suspicion.
The Shadow Dragons, however, met her arrival with great interest.

I've fallen into the Dragon Age: the Veilguard abyss and I can't get out! lol. Currently on my second playthrough and I figured maybe it's time I shared my two Rooks so far. (so many ideas for future ones, too)
Rook #1 - my main go-to Rook
Kione de Riva
Background: Antivan Crow
Class: Rogue
Specialization: Saboteur
Romance: Lucanis Dellamorte
AU twist: has a sister, Pari de Riva, who while not the Rook of the game story, plays a big part in his overall story.
Pari de Riva
Background: Antivan Crow
Class: Rogue
Specialization: probably Saboteur or Duellist
Romance: in her main game, Lucanis. In her brother's story, still working that out.
-------------------------------------
Rook #2
Nels Mercar
Background: Shadow Dragon
Class: Rogue
Specialization: Saboteur (at the moment, might change)
Romance: Neve Gallus (would have been Lucanis I think, but for choices)
It's difficult to get good photos of them because I'm playing on PS5 and have no way to transfer them, so I've been using my phone to take pictures of the screen which mess up the colors.
Thinking about my third playthrough - an elf, maybe, to romance Bellara. Probably Veil Jumper or Grey Warden. Fourth playthrough will be whichever (VJ or GW) I don't make here. Might feel courageous enough at that point to play a mage.

I already have a second rook in mind for Veilguard, help
his name is Invictus (he was a slave and renamed himself upon escaping his master, Invictus means unconquerable), he's a rogue (leaning towards the saboteur spec), and he's with the Shadow Dragons. He cares very deeply about his fellow city elves but has mixed to negative feelings about Dalish elves... at least until Bellara comes along.
He's also a lil sourpuss so yeah
(bioware please i need better reference images for the companions i'm begging you)
#my art#rook#dragon age rook#invictus mercar#i mean i assume bellara is dalish or at least dalish adjacent#i think he has a great singing voice so his main job was performing for his master and their guests.. who then wanted 'private performances#da:tv#dragon age: the veilguard#bellara lutara

Some more new details from this article about DA:TV.
Rook loses consciousness at the start of the game:
"There's a giant tear in the sky, with the Veil weakening and demons invading. Players are forced to fight their way to the source with but a detour or two before them. Along the way, they meet a few allies, including the beloved storyteller Varric Tethras and a powerful mage. Together, they push forward and are met with a boss battle against a Pride Demon. From there, things go from bad to worse, the main player character loses consciousness, and the world of Thedas—and its survival—depends upon the player."
Also on the opening: Varric and Harding had tracked Solas to Minrathous. We meet low-level Venatori agents in the bar. If you choose to attack, the notification that pops up about what Varric thinks says that Varric would remember that Rook prefers actions to words. Then,
"Then the sky tore apart and a tear in the Veil, seemingly the size of the Breach, appeared. The Veil grew thin and demons poured into Minrathous, tearing the city apart as the castle tried to shoot them from the sky - damaging the lower city in the process. Solas was nearby then, but the priority was linking up with Harding and finding Neve."
Then, some details on a part that was cut out of the public gameplay video:
"[Neve] informs us that Solas has a hideout beneath a nearby statue, and lo and behold, it is Solas' hideout. He has painted murals around it, magic is used uniquely even by Tevinter standards, and at the end awaits a beautiful Eluvian"
Demon lore:
"This Pride Demon looks very different from others in the franchise. However, Epler was quick to note how Demons are magical manifestations of emotion from the Fade, which means certain triggers could be causing this."
Snippet on CC:
"Many fans were subject to the horror of DA Inquition's special green light, so BioWare made it where players could shuffle through a handful of backgrounds to see how their character looks in different lights. Body sliders for fully customizable bodies, other appearance changes like tattoos, and everything fans would expect from a modern Dragon Age character creator seemed to be there."
A bit of info on what the 3 specs for Rogue entail: Saboteur is trap-focused, Veil Ranger is ranged focused, and Duelist is a movement-focused class which centers a lot on dodges and parries.
Rook always shares a background with 1 of the companions. Makes sense, the backgrounds are Wardens, Crows, Shadow Dragons, Mourn Watch, Veil Jumpers, Lords of Fortune, and that's Davrin, Lucanis, Neve, Emmrich, Bellara, Taash respectively
Rogues can use both their bow and dual-wield daggers in combat, which is a first for the franchise
There are 3 shortcuts for abilities, you can access more though by opening the ability wheel where there is 9 mapping slots
Of the 3 class' special resource bar, rogues' Momentum fills quickest but takes bigger drains when hit
