Two quotes from the ep that I wrote down and wanted to touch on:

"Everyone's scared of love, dipshit. You'll learn that in your twenties." DAMN, ATTACKED (38 here, can confirm)

and

"It takes a very rare, very powerful being to be terrified of happiness." I think this is true, Rick's greatest fear is happiness... and I think Rick may be self-aware enough to know that, which is why he didn't jump in the hole at the end. Rick wouldn't have returned from the hole.
