in retrospect, Sébastien Meunier's run at Ann Demeulemeester was stellar. he did a great job of walking the fine tightrope of 'legacy' brands, avoiding both falling into masturbatory rehash nostalgia but also departing too far from the brand's core concept - preserving the 'spirit' of Verhelst's designs but moving it forward with his own vision.

i feel his greatest achievement was making the menswear equally as interesting and desirable as the womenswear - which even Ann herself never really accomplished in my view. i even grabbed some very pretty trousers from the men's side myself which is rare. i'd love to see him take on a womenswear line again someday.

Sébastien Meunier has been one of the most underrated creative forces in fashion for the latter half of the 21st century. His ability to pair elements of strength and fragility come to life through his brutalist landscape. We can only hope he makes his return to fashion soon.
