ship i’ve read the most of: huh! Hmm. I think it might be them at this point honestly 👀 otherwise - it could've also been Beth Harmon/Benny Watts.

Yes - Queen's Gambit fics... Was a thing in my life. I was in a deep dark hole at the time & that show just hit something in me - I grasped onto it for dear life as a form of escapism for months and it brought me back into fanfics after years & years.

wild card: figure skater ships? i don't wanna get into the specifics though 🙈 things have changed.

first ever ship: oh, we're going there are we 👀 there might've been earlier ones I can't remember. They were probably niche though. So I guess I'll say Skate (Sawyer/Kate from Lost - anyone remember that show?). But I think Suspian (Susan/Caspian from Narnia. Yep.) needs an honorary mention cause it's the first I got involved in to the point of making ship content - even if I didn't know that term yet (wasn't I such a fun kid?).

currently reading: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (been on my shelf forever & was reminded of it by the trailer coming out. It seems like I've recently been unintentionally catching up on my older fandoms - with this THG prequel & the Fantastic Beasts movies). Also John Lennon: The Life by Philip Norman is one I've started; stopped for a sec and will be coming back to next.

currently watching: in the middle of Get Back - the Beatles docu-series. Had a bit of a break cause I like to craft while watching that one & haven't had motivation to do so lately. But can't wait to get back (pun not intended actually, but I'm still proud of it) into that one.

currently consuming: a bunch of meds, cause I'm sick atm :c. Also coffee.

currently craving: evenings with guitar & singing - cause this cold/tonsillitis thing has made me take a break for the last couple of days 💔 (also TLSP 3 is very much the correct answer here always).

And what if all that Susan ever dreamed of in this bleak Londonian life was just a wish away ?

In the winter of 1953, leaning over her newborn daughter’s crib, Susan Mason, formerly Pevensie, tries to hold back her tears. She thinks of happier times, when there was laugh in the air and a crown on her head, and with all that she is, all the soul that 1949 has left her with, she wishes that she could give even a fraction of that bliss to the tiny babe sleeping right here. Little Prince Caspian (movie) things

Here is my stream of consciousness from rewatching Prince Caspian. IDK if anyone will take the time to read through this lol but here it issss

-Queen Prunarismia, upon delivering and being handed her newborn baby, immediately checks with eagerness (and anxiety?) to see if it’s a boy.

-Susan sits by herself at school. She prefers to be left alone.

-the look of fear on Lucy’s face, and disappointment in Susan ‘s, when Peter is fighting.

-Peter’s desperate look at them when he sees them and realizes they must be disappointed.

-“Act your age” -Security guard to Peter

-it’s weird for me because Ed and Lu changed so much between movies. Ed’s voice obviously got deeper, but Lucy’s did too. She seems SO much older.

-Lucy falling in the water on the beach was probably Georgie falling in real life let’s be honest

-the Cair ruins are SO PRETTY.

-Pevensies running barefoot through the castle ruins

-OK BUT MIRAZ’S BABY IS REALLY CUTE

-I loooooove the Spanish accents.

-“Abducted....... by NARNIANS.”

-the Telmarines calling Narnians “fairy tales” ohhhhhh the irony

-Ok but? Peter does this thing with his head when he’s looking at his statue in the treasure room? He almost shakes his head? As if to say “I can’t believe that was me” or “why am I not like that now”???

-Ed turning away to laugh when Peter includes “The Magnificent”

-Ed’s smile when Peter tells the DLF that Ed will fight him

-the little embroideries on Caspian’s night shirt :)

-parallel between Badger believing Caspian is going to save them and Beaver believing the Pevensies were going to save them

-Pevensies in the history textbooks

-Abcient professor, having studied the Pevensies his whole life, suddenly has an arrow from QUEEN SUSAN in his OFFICE??? (Miraz stabs it in his book)

-his smile. The look in his eyes. The HOPE. The TRIUMPH. The SMIRK.

-that shot. The one looking up into the sky from the water. With the sun and the boat. And the music.

-I love how Lucy and Susan’s hair get frizzy when they’re on the water in the boat. Like? Same. Yet they still look like angels

-Lucy just wants to talk to the friendly Bear!!!

-Peter brandishing his sword and hugging Lucy with the other arm

-the way the Narnian theme turns minor as it shows the steep cliff drop off

-Lucy’s smile when she sees Aslan.

-One of the fauns looks like Martin Freeman and it’s throwing me off

-Why did they feel they needed to make Peter angry and prideful... the looks he and Caspian exchange... why can’t my smols just play nice

-When they see the Stone Table I love that it’s Susan and Lucy in the center, staring at it just as they did so many years ago when Aslan rose again...

-Caspian’s look of dejection when he realizes that Peter is High King and he has to call the shots (I still hate that he and Peter’s relationship is like that but good acting on Ben’s part)

-When Peter asks Glenstorm for help, Glenstorm shares a look with Caspian.

-Edmund getting dropped at the castle first... because he has a torch!

-Parallel between Pevensies flying in by gryffin and WWII bombers...

-the muted trumpet/bugle theme for Reep and his mice!

-Susan taking Caspian’s side against Peter when Caspian wants to go find his professor <3

-when the guard accidentally turns the torch on and it shines in his face. Same, dude. Same.

-Edmund canonically calls Peter “Pete.”

-Oh. my. goodness. “Exactly WHO are you doing this for, Peter?” when in the first movie, it was “For Narnia, and for Aslan.” Really shows the error he’s made. He really has given up hope on Aslan. (Again, not saying that I like this change to his character AT ALL but this was a cool way to show it if they HAD to go in that direction...)

-THEN he says “For Narnia.” (but not for Aslan...)

-The Minotaur holding up the gate :’(

-The smile in Edmund’s eyes before he falls backward onto the gryffin

-Peter crying as he see’s what he’s done with the Narnians getting trapped and Susan crying too I can’t

-Lucy. Sitting on the stone table, all alone. While the others are fighting. Holding her healing cordial, wishing she could be there helping. And the significance of her being “near” Aslan when she’s lonely and sad waiting for the others to get back.

-When the Telmarine lords are pledging their troops to Miraz as he’s getting crowned one of them says “Etinsmoor” which sounds a lot like the castle from Hamlet I think??? lol.

-Miraz’s sick cape flip as he walks up to the throne

-parallel between the Stone Table music from LWW and the summoning of the witch music in PC

-ok the Hag is seriously creepy

-The witch’s ice and the witch herself appear in the big archway where Aslan appeared in LWW. Nice parallel. Like she’s coming between them and Aslan...

-You can see Caspian’s breath when the ice appears

-Lucy using her dagger and being ruthless 

-The witch telling Peter he “can’t do this alone” YEAH BUD YOU CAN’T WHICH IS WHY YOU NEED ASLAN NOT HER???

-Edmund breaking the ice. Yeaaaaaah buddy character development

-The shot of the Aslan statue in the background

-Susan’s look of disappointment at Peter and Caspian

-After all this time I think Caspian is still wearing his nightshirt....

-Is... Is Peter looking up at the Aslan statue with tears in his eyes?

-Parallel between Lucy’s “Susan! you’d better come quickly!” and Edmund’s “Pete... you’d better come quickly.”

-UMM Miraz is riding a WHITE HORSE and the horse’s HELMET HAS A UNICORN HORN UMM IS HE TRYING TO BE PETER

-I’m sorry but Edmund walking towards the Telmarine camp carrying a plant as a peace offering

-Susan is NOT impressed with Caspian’s behavior. Giving him the cold shoulder. 

-Susan. Facing the Telmarines. Alone. The director said they had horsemen ride at Anna full-force and she never flinched. 

-Susan’s little smile as she swings up onto the horse with Caspian.... (I’m not a hardcore Suspian shipper but awww)

-Edmund resetting Peter’s arm

-Caspian. with tears in his eyes as he chooses not to kill. 

-Miraz dies with Susan’s arrow stuck in him- like the arrow he took to the Professor’s office earlier- “superstitions”

-This time during battle it’s the Telmarines dropping rocks and not the Narnians like in LWW

-I can’t ever watch Susan pull an arrow out of her quiver without thinking of that blooper lol

-Edmund with a crossbow yeeeeaaahhh

-Peter says “Lucy” and Susan reads his lips from that far off and shakes her head

-and THEN when the trees come in, Peter’s cry is FINALLY “For Aslan!”

-Lucy pulls out her dagger and then makes this EXPRESSION like COME AT ME Y’ALL 

-Aslan and Lucy just look at each other

-the symbolism between the Telmarines trying to control the Narnians or deny their existence and their building the bridge across the river- and then Aslan unleashes the RIVER DUDE and Narnia fights back

-Meeting Aslan, Susan looks afraid to meet his eyes

-The little bit of a growl/sternness in Aslan’s voice when he’s talking to Reep who is being a touch prideful

-When Reep is giving all the reasons he needs a tail, Lucy looks to Aslan and smiles and Aslan looks to Lucy and smiles. All these looks really show that thing the book says that “Lucy understands some of his moods” or something- she knows him best

-”Where is this dear little friend you’ve told me so much about”- Did Lucy tell Aslan about him on the way to Beruna? 

-Lucy still has waves in her hair in the parade scene and I’ve always wondered why but maybe it’s still from her braids from the beginning of her movie?

-Fireworks at the castle again- for a very different reason

-The look between Aslan and Susan. 

-I think you can hear Aslan say “world” to Susan and Peter- like “your world”?

-Susan’s shy little smile as she looks back to her family after KISSING CASPIAN

-maybe i’m just imagining it but I’ve always thought that Aslan was mouthing “bye” to Lucy at the very end when she looks back to him

-I LOVE that they show the transition from Narnia to the platform from Lucy’s perspective.

Their ages can be parsed down to months and hours and none of this will ever matter.

Fic writers and creators of fan content can and will ship whatever they want.

As you said—the film(s) said fuck you to the novel(s) so fic writers will and can absolutely say the same thing to whatever “age gaps issue” this is you’ve written. And, to be clear, I don’t ship Casmund OR Lucian. (I tend to consider both ships moronic—same for Caster and Suspian).

I’m just going to say that this bizarre purity culture in New Fandom is idiotic. “This is problematic that” “i find this is toxic here” NEWS FLASH. No one reading or writing or drawing this content gives a damn. Obliviously, or else they wouldn’t be making it.

Let people write and create what they want. If you have an issue with it—

Move on.

And I’m not saying that debate is a problem. This is all fine and dandy, discussing and discourse are all fantastic; but debating in an attempt to hate on certain groups of fandom, to criticize and ostracize them because of some strange notion of morality that’s been conceived which correlates the use of “toxic” or “problematic” tropes and themes in creative works to mean the creator supports and defends them—is wholly wrong. There’s no argument here. This is your opinion. So to that I say: stop looking at this content if it bothers you as much as it apparently does. Filter it out. Block it. Thin your search results. You can make an ironclad argument on why shipping these ships is wrong—but you’re only going to be preaching to a choir of people who agree with you; because the ones that don’t are going to ignore this and keep on keeping on.

So just let people enjoy things.

Also by the way— canonically when the Pevensies go back to Narnia the longer they’re breathing that air the more they revert (mentally) to their adult Narnian selves. So your argument against Casmud or Lucian dies immediately. Caspian could be 24 and Edmund physically 15 and he (Caspian) would still be younger than Edmund mentally (they were in Narnia for 15 years—making book-verse Edmund 25 – Lucy 24 – when they left in LWW). And given the “wildness” of Narnia in Edmund and Lucy’s day I feel like they’d run circles around Caspian sexually. So physically they can be 13 and 14 and whatever you like. But mentally they can be 25 and 24 (those are novel canonic ages—for the film it’s more like 25 and 27) which still leaves Caspian physically older but mentally younger.

Which is why that swordplay scene in VOTDT is often used by Casmund shippers as a “sexually charged” scene. Yes, Edmund is 16 years old; but he fights a 21 year old Caspian with the skill of a man five years his senior—the only thing Ed lacks is the physical strength of a 27 year old man. Hence why when Caspian goes “you’ve grown stronger, my friend” and Edmund laughs, and flips his sword, and says “seems I have” and glances at Caspian meaningfully. (This is a callback to PC where Edmund wanted to fight Miraz because he’s got the greater skill but he hadn’t the strength—so Peter had to fight instead. That VOTDT swordplay scene also symbolizes that Edmund, like Peter, has “become” an adult and can stand on his own—foreshadowing his inability to return to Narnia).

this is the only post I'll ever make that mentions c*smund

even though it's not technically about them??? It's about how I see their ages.

to me, in the movie version of LWW, Lucy is 10, Edmund is 12, Susan is 14, and Peter is 15

In movie PC, Peter says a year has passed. I choose to interpret that as a year and a half, so Lucy is 12, Edmund is 14, Susan is 16, and Peter is 17, since they're all shown to still be in school. Caspian is eighteen (arguments can be made for younger or older, give or take a year), which makes his ‘romance’ with Susan as well as his love with Peter alright and understandable, because teenage hormones and all that.

In VOTDT, Edmund says ��he barely had two years on me!’ while talking about that guy who was enlisting in the beginning. I gather the guy is eighteen and legal, and Edmund is 16 and still a minor, and Lucy is 14 and also very much a minor.

Caspian says three years have passed in Narnia. That would make him twenty-one (I know he's sixteen in the book, but the movie really did say fuck you to the book, so not going into that). A sixteen year old and a twenty-one year old is in no way an acceptable relationship. A twenty-one year old and a fourteen year old is even worse.

I know, mentally, both Edmund and Lucy are in their mid-to-late twenties, but unless the respective ships of c*smund and l*cian are purely based on mental connection (sort of like Athena and the men she loves in the PJO series) and with no sort of physicality, you can't use that as an argument. Also, emotionally, they're both clearly youthful teenagers, going by Edmund’s resentment and impulsiveness as well as Lucy’s insecurity regarding her looks.

(Of course, older people still have these issues, but in media, they're most commonly depicted in teenagers)

In the book, Lucy is explicitly eight in LWW, nine in PC, and ten in VOTDT (I'm quite sure the fact that a year passed between each book is made clear); Edmund is ten in LWW, eleven in PC, and twelve in VOTDT; Susan and Peter, I'm not entirely sure, but I guess Susan is twelve>thirteen>fourteen and Peter is thirteen>fourteen>fifteen.

Caspian is thirteen in PC, and sixteen in VOTDT, so shipping him with a ten year old (Lucy) or a twelve year old (Edmund) is just....a no. Such a big, big no.

Of course, I have other issues with ships of Lucy or Edmund with Caspian, too, but this age thing is something I've seen being argued about EVERYWHERE- from here to Instagram to freaking Twitter- so I figured I'd give my two cents on it, too.

hmm, for caspian, I always feel like it was her beauty that attracted him first, both outer (her natural-ness) and the inner glow. Then there’s her gentleness, kindness, nurturing heart but also her stubborness (or perseverence). 

For Susan, I think it’s probably his child-like, faith-filled courage and boldness to step up and step out to be different and to lead.
