So I've finally finished Bloodhounds (+ ahjussi collection)
...and I have no idea where to start and what to say and how to feel.
Tumblr media
No, wait, please hear me out.
It was b l o o d y and at parts a very difficult watch, as it has lots of explicit fighting scenes, which look extremely realistic and cruel. So cruel that I had to close my eyes and not watch, I even skipped many & i'm not sorry. However, there are also parts so heartwarming that it makes you forget about all the crimes and gore for a moment. So, it's up to you to decide if it's worth the struggle. Since the violence could be a bit too much for many, let's just say I do and don't recommend this one at the same time. Personally, one of things I greatly enjoyed is the subtle comic tone of Gun-woo's and Woo-jin's interactions with each other and their characters which represent people doing sports professionally so well, the purity of their hearts and lack of malice in everything they do, since they truly do live for the sports. Then there are two absolutely powerful and skillful young women, Hyeong-ju and Da-min, playing such important roles in the entire series, each of them individually contributing so much to the entire plan of bringing the bad guys down and saving what could still be saved. And also, one of the most enjoyable parts were definitely the bonds that came out of these newly formed friendships. Younger acting crew did an amazing job. In comparison to the older and experienced ahjussi crew (I'll get to them in a bit), they've got some serious talent. It must have been a huge undertake for both Woo Do-hwan and Lee Sang-yi to live up to the expectations of the entire team behind this drama. And they did it. They absolutelly slayed.
Tumblr media
If you still haven't watched this drama, trust me when I say these two cinnamon rolls will instantly win your heart right at the beginning of the first episode. They're like the most perfect two besties you'd want to be besties with too. And yeah, you'll suffer thru all the horrors just to see them win the biggest battle of their lives. Gosh, every time I tried typing something coherent about them it just ended up being lots of crying shaking throwing up. They're the best, ok? And this is best I can do. ╥﹏╥
And while our marine boys scratched so many itches around this platform, I have to mention the absolute gentlemen that starred in this series and swept me off my feet *deepest sigh ever*
So many great actors took part in Bloodhounds, it's hard to believe my own eyes at times. Whoever was in charge of the casting did a killer job. I couldn't even take the bad guys seriously because they're freakishly handsome. Well, at least not until Kim Myung-gil brutally ended my favourite ahjussi trio damn you ep 6
What started as an obsession over two young marine guys and their bromance ended up as a hole in my heart over downfall of three middle aged criminals men and a will to trade all the money and gold bars for their lives. And more importantly, a huge appreciation for Korean actors over the age of 40.
No, let's be real. They're handsome and talented and great at their job and deserve all the love and support. With that in mind... here's a tiny screenshot dump because it would be a shame not to post it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I want to be normal about them and move on in peace but *internal screams* I've already mentioned Lee Hae-young in one of my earlier posts, addressing my obsession with the character he portrays, the sushi restaurant owner Hwang Yang-jung. And I know many people are obsessed with him too. But no one is speaking up. Which is silly. And tbh I really thought there would be more gifs of him and other men but...there's close to none? Can we talk about how fine this man is? How fine this whole ahjussi crew is? Can we... can we just acknowledge they sliced us all in tiniest pieces possible and burned us all till we turned into charcoal? Can we make a mess of kdrama side of tumblr by excessively posting about them? Pretty please?
It's true, I came for the boys, but stayed for these men. I'm not even joking when I say kdrama has me in a chokehold again, but this time for a whole new reason. Dropping everything just to watch series and movies these guys took part in sounds like the best idea at the moment. I even forgot about the new releases I started watching, which makes me laugh at myself, but... it is what it is. At some point, a girl just has to obsess over her favourite ahjussi, and that's okay.

Bloodhounds
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2023
Bloodhounds (2023, South Korea)
Director & Writer: Kim Joo Hwan (based on the webtoon by Jeong Chan)
Mini-review:
I'm gonna be honest: I'm not usually a big fan of these type of movies/shows and I only started this one because of the wonderful Woo Do Hwan. However, color me surprised, cause I ended up loving Bloodhounds. Sure, this story has been told a million times before, but the bromance, the incredibly lovable characters (and incredibly hateful villains!) and the showstopping action scenes take this show to the next level. I'm telling you, it's a really enjoyable experience.
On top of that, the cast absolutely delivers. The show is filled with knockout (pun intended) performances, there's not a single weak link. You can tell just how hard these actors worked to prepare for all the fights and action sequences. Oh, and I can't leave out Kim Joo Hwan's propulsive directing, which left me breathless in several episodes. I do think the final scene cut off way too suddenly, and the sort-of-time-jump in episode 7 is also rather awkward, but I guess it's understandable, considering all the trouble the show went through during post-production. Anyway, Bloodhounds took me by surprise, and I think most people who like action movies/shows focused on hand-to-hand combat will love this.

Did You Ever See Me As Your Brother?
Blind TVN, Blind 2022, Blind Kdrama, Oneshot
Ryu Sung Joon & Ryu Sung Hoon
notes: posted on ao3 as well. this show literally destroyed me anyways here's the oneshot i claimed id post like uh 6+ months ago ?? idek anymore. they may be slightly OOC but oh well 🤡
Word count: 711
"Father, you are under arrest for attempted murder," Ryu Sung Joon said as he put the handcuffs on his own father. "You have the right to remain silent, you have a right to an attorney..."
Rain poured upon the three, including Ryu Sung Hoon who was still on the ground. After making sure his father was cuffed properly, Sung Joon got up and went over to his brother. He felt so betrayed and furious—Sung Hoon was working with Yoon Jae the entire time?
"Are you happy now?" Sung Joon scoffed. "It turned out the way you wanted to."
Silence. Spare for the rain hitting the ground. It was too loud.
Sung Joon balled his fists, hands trembling.
"Are you happy now?!" he shouted, hating the silence. For once, his brother had nothing to say. Well, how could one possibly excuse lying to him for so many years?
In a fit of rage, he went and pulled Sung Hoon up by the front of his shirt. He braced himself for the one final question he had.
The question he was scared to ask. Or rather, the answer he was terrified to hear.
"Did you-" Sung Joon took deep breaths, the adrenaline of forcing the gun out of his father's hands from earlier wearing off. "Ever, just once ," his voice took on a pleading tone, "think of me as your brother?"
Sung Hoon finally snapped. "What do you take me for?"
"ANSWER ME!" Sung Joon shook him. Perhaps he was being selfish, there were more pressing matters to get to, like taking his father and brother to the station, but he had to know.
Did Sung Hoon really hate him? Has he ever truly cared about him?
"You thought I didn't because Yoon Jae told you, don't you?" Sung Hoon asked simply. Sung Joon wanted to pull out his hair in frustration.
"You came from Hope Welfare Center."
"Scary men there would hurt you."
"Don't tell our parents or they'll send you back there."
The necklace.
"I gave you that necklace because I think of you as my real brother."
"You're still pathetic, though," with a hint of a smile.
"You said you gave that necklace to me because you considered me as your real brother!" Sung Joon screamed, voice breaking. He pushed Sung Hoon away and made him fall right back on the ground. "Why did you lie? Why did you make me get my hopes up?"
"Ryu Sung Joon!" Sung Hoon shouted, wincing and bringing a hand to the wound on his side. "Stop speaking nonsense, I didn't lie. Why are you being like this?"
"If you meant it, why did you lie and make me believe I was adopted? That I was Yoon Jae?" Sung Joon couldn't help it, his eyes watered. The tears threatened to spill. He shook his head vigorously. No need to make himself look more pathetic.
He was already practically begging his brother to love him—like a child.
"I… I projected my… experiences onto you," Sung Hoon admitted. "I’m… You didn't deserve that. I understand if you never forgive me. I’m… I’m sorry,” he swallowed.
Sung Joon stared at him, feeling hyper aware of the sounds of the ocean waves behind them. The sounds of the waves, almost calming if it weren't for the situation at hand. The pitter patter of the rain, how his clothes stuck to his body. He felt sick. Sick to his stomach.
His brother disgusted him, but at the same time, he apologized. Sung Hoon never apologized. Granted, perfect Ryu Sung Hoon never had a reason to. Their parents adored him, Sung Hoon was never the one recklessly getting into fights and trouble.
Why would he have apologized before?
“You… you tricked me,” Sung Joon whispered, voice breaking. “Why did you have to lie?”
“How much do you… recall? Those memories… Yoon Jae w-” Sung Hoon began, but the second Yoon Jae’s name came out of his mouth, Sung Joon snapped.
"It's always Yoon Jae!" Sung Joon let out an unamused huff of laughter. "Yoon Jae this, Yoon Jae that! Has it always been about Yoon Jae? Your real brother?”
"At some point in time," Sung Hoon exhaled, pushing himself off the ground. “It stopped being about Yoon Jae.”
HAHA THE END MY MOTIVATION ENDED THERE
might make pt 2?? but last time i said that it never happened so honestly imma just say Inshallaah 🤠

aight ok while i attempt to process my Blind emotions rn i think i've figured out what's f*cking me up the most at the moment about Ryu Sung Hoon and it is this: he reminds me of Lee Chang Joon and Yoon Se Won in the same breath and if you've watched Secret Forest you will understand

I have a dilemma. I’ve got another Blind fanfic in mind, but I suspect it will have only a few hits on AO3, just like The Rest of Your Life (In Pain), simply because the fandom is so small. It’s easier to write for bigger fandoms—at least you know people will see and read your story. But at the same time, it could be something interesting… By which I mean more Ryu Sung Hoon and Ryu Sung Joon whump… So should I write it or lay it aside for now? Especially considering I have an idea for a coda to How Much Do You Like Me?, too, and need to finish an original story as well, a sequel to The Sons of Gomorrah?

‘The Escape of the Seven’ Continues to Generate Major Drama Buzz, + ‘Moving’ Cast Lead Actor Rankings
Tumblr media
The Escape of the Seven and Moving are the two K-dramas that have been generating the most buzz online for the past week. The thrilling mystery series and the action-packed webtoon adaptation have captivated the viewers with their gripping plots and stellar casts. Here are some of the reasons why these shows and their actors are trending on various online platforms.
'The Escape of the Seven': A Revenge Story That Keeps You on Edge
The Escape of the Seven is a makjang drama that follows the story of a high school student who seeks revenge against seven people who made his life a living hell. The show is created by the same team behind the hit series The Penthouse: War in Life, and it features a similar blend of suspense, violence, and melodrama.
Tumblr media
(Photo : SBS ) The show has been topping the most buzzworthy drama list for two consecutive weeks, according to Good Data Corporation. The company collects data from blog posts, online news articles, videos, and social media posts in various online communities to rank the current and upcoming K-dramas that viewers are talking about. Check out the top 10 series that made it to the Most Buzzworthy Drama list. - "The Escape of the Seven" - "Behind Your Touch" - "Arthdal Chronicles 2: The Sword of Aramun" - "Destined with You" - "My Lovely Liar" - "The Kidnapping Day" - "Live Your Own Life" - "Twinkling Watermelon" - "The Killing Vote" - "Unpredictable Family" Some of the factors that contribute to the popularity of The Escape of the Seven are: - The intense and unpredictable plot that keeps the viewers guessing who are the seven villains and what are their motives. - The stellar performance of the cast, especially Uhm Ki Joon, who plays the dual role of a charismatic teacher and a ruthless psychopath. - The controversial and provocative scenes that depict violence, abuse, and torture in a realistic and graphic manner. - The social commentary on the issues of bullying, corruption, and injustice in the Korean society. The show has also received some criticism and complaints for its excessive depiction of violence and sexual content. Some viewers have expressed their discomfort and dissatisfaction with the show’s direction and tone. “I can’t watch this drama anymore. It’s too disturbing and disgusting. How can they show such things on TV?” - A netizen on Naver TV “This drama is not for everyone. It’s a dark and twisted revenge story that exposes the ugly side of human nature. I think it’s well-made and well-acted, but it’s definitely not easy to watch.” - Another netizen on Naver TV
'Moving': A Webtoon Adaptation That Delivers Action and Emotion
Moving is a webtoon-based series that tells the story of a top-tier agent who infiltrates a high school to protect a student who holds a secret that could change the world. The show is produced by Disney+ and it features a star-studded cast of Jo In Sung, Han Hyo Joo, Ryu Seung Ryong, Go Yoon Jung, Kim Do Hoon, and Lee Jung Ha.
Tumblr media
(Photo : Disney+) The show has recently ended its first season with a cliffhanger that left the viewers wanting more. The cast of Moving dominates the most buzzworthy actor list, with six out of ten spots occupied by them. Some of the factors that make Moving a successful and popular series are: - The action-packed and fast-paced plot that combines espionage, sci-fi, and comedy elements. - The impressive production quality that showcases stunning cinematography, realistic stunts, and seamless CGI effects. - The charismatic and talented cast that brings their characters to life with their acting skills and chemistry. - The emotional and touching moments that balance the thrill and humor of the show. - The faithful adaptation of the original webtoon that respects the author’s vision and satisfies the fans. The show has also received some praise and recognition from critics and industry insiders. It has been nominated for several awards, including Best Drama, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Music, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and Best Action at the 2023 Korea Drama Awards. “Moving is one of the best webtoon adaptations I’ve ever seen. It’s not only entertaining but also meaningful. It deals with themes like identity, family, friendship, loyalty, justice, and love.” - A critic on Daum “Moving is a masterpiece that deserves all the awards. It’s a rare gem that combines action, comedy, sci-fi, romance, drama, suspense, mystery, and emotion in one package. It’s a must-watch for everyone.” - Another critic on Daum The Escape of the Seven and Moving are two K-dramas that have proven their popularity and quality with their high rankings on the most buzzworthy drama and actor list. They have different genres and styles, but they both offer engaging stories and memorable characters that appeal to a wide range of viewers.
