I was watching an old anime the other day, where the main character hit people's weak spots to make them explode. It made me think, it's unrealistic but people do have real weak spots on their body, where hitting them could cause some real damage...
This is a revelation!

My Yakuza/Like a Dragon series collection part 1. Fucking love this series! Let's just pretend I own a physical copy of Like a Dragon Gaiden. I have the two PS2 games, too. I just don't want to dig them out... The only English Yakuza I don't have is Dead Souls.

I have been playing Lost Paradise again after finishing Yakuza: Like A Dragon. The DLC Kiryu Skin is SOO goofy.

Great VGM: Takumi 2009 - Yakuza Franchise
Back at it again with another Yakuza post.
Every legendary fighter has to learn from someone or learn how to fight somehow. Whether it's Kenshiro learning Hokuto Shinken from Master Ryuken or Ryu and Ken learning Ansatsuken from Gouken, everyone has a teacher.
So who is the Dragon of Dojima's master? His name is Sotaro Komaki, master of the Komaki Style of Martial Arts. Kiryu and the old man crossed paths in the year 2005 and they would continue to cross paths up until the year 2012.
Initially in the Yakuza series, Komaki's training sessions did not have their own unique battle music. Instead the sessions shared with the street battles. It wasn't until "Ryu Ga Gotoku: Kenzan!" that the old master would be given his own theme song: Takumi.
What we have here today is the second iteration of the song, Takumi 2009, which was used for Yakuza 3 and up to Yakuza 5.
youtube
Honestly a perfectly fitting song for a mysterious old master who wishes to pass on his teachings to a worthy successor.
Other iterations are as follows:
Takumi - Ryu Ga Gotoku: Kenzan!
Takumi 2014 - Like A Dragon: Ishin!
Takumi 2016 - Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise
Takumi 1988 - Yakuza 0
If you happen to like this post, feel free to reblog and tell me which iteration of the old master's theme song you like the most. I'm particularly tied between 2009 and 2014.

While im very happy that the Yakuza team are making a Hnk game by itself, I would have been just as happy if they had done it as like a weird “digital actors” type spinoff, ala Kenzan and Ishin. Where it’s like Yakuza cast models and voices used for hnk characters. And the plot is changed around a bit so you just have it all happen in post apocalyptic Kamurocho and Sotenbori.
Kiryu as Ken, Nishiki as Shin and Ryuji as Raoh. Really obvious stuff. Daigo as Toki, maybe? Akiyama as Rei.
Haruka as Lynn/Lin. No idea about Bat/Bart.
I figured Majima as Jagi, but it only works on really surface level, so I dunno.
Mine as Amiba. Bfft.
ANDRE RICHARDSON AS SOUTHER. Good lord.
Aizawa as Kaioh. I could do this all day.
Some AV actresses as Yuria and Mamiya. I have a few ideas for those.
Point is that it would be glorious.

For the past few months I’ve been REALLY into the Yakuza series!
You ever had that game series that you never heard of, but once you start playing it, you just go...
Tumblr media
Yakuza. Ryu Ga Gotoku. Like A Dragon.
No other series hooked me this hard.
With such a satisfying formula of: Serious Crime Drama + Tough, Hot, Stoic (and Shirtless ) Men + Memorable Supporting cast, combined with, the Goofiest and Weirdest side stories you’ll ever see + OTT and satisfying combat + minigames up the wazoo, topped with heartwarming drama that brings out the humanity in all of us, and you get the greatest game purchase you’ve ever made.
I think the best part about this series is how it uses it video game elements to enhance it’s story and characters. The open world with many interactable minigames and wacky side stories is used to humanize the protagonists, bringing them out of their element, and seeing so many sides to them, adding to their character. The very OTT dramatic intros and heat finishers used to start and punctuate emotionally tense scenes, giving it a sense of cathartic release. Finally, just being able to balance tone so perfectly with the lighthearted game elements with the gritty story is something you don’t realize is the reason you love this game series until it already has you deep in their pockets.
To sum it up: It has everything you ever wanted from a video game.
So why haven’t I blogged about it till now? Because I was too busy playing it!
After the rush of finishing Yakuza 0, I just had to get Yakuza Kiwami! Then Kiwami 2! Then, since the PS4 remasters weren’t announced yet, I scoured the internet for copies of Yakuza 3 and 4 on PS3! Then I had to fix my PS3 controllers since they were broken. Then play Yakuza 5 on PS3 wondering if I should’ve just waited for the announcement of the remasters, then beat it! Then play Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise (Hokuto Ga Gotoku) because I love Fist of the North Star and add the Yakuza gameplay formula, it’s just mwah. Then play the recent spin-off, Judgement! AND Then see the announcement for Yakuza 7 and the remasters. FINALLY get Yakuza 6 and wallow in pity that I didn’t space this out cause I JUST NEED MORE!!
...Wow, I just realized this really is a shakedown racket.
Worth it. (Goes to 100% some of the games)
