RWRB & Music

So I've been feeling quite paranoid over the soundtrack for the rwrb movie. I really associate this book with music and if they get the vibes wrong I know it will break me. I just can't imagine watching one of my favourite scenes come to life only for it to be set to some cheesy song that I don't like. I'm hoping that they include most of the music Casey mentions in the book (either by having the characters talk about/listen to it or having it on the soundtrack) and I'm hoping they stay away from current top 40 pop hits and stick with more retro/lesser known artists like heartstopper did. That being said, I wanted to share my rwrb playlist on here (minus the songs that are mentioned in the book since those are a given)

Me being annoying about RWRB

So, I'm relistening to RWRB after seeing the movie adaptation. It's taking me forever cause my attention span is shit, but I'm trying.

In the movie, there's this line about Henry never owning a key....

I just got to a part in the book where this beautiful fucker pulls out a full key ring and tells Alex that people will give Princes keys to just about anything...

I....

Why...why is the adaptation like this...?

There are so many questions I have about the rwrb adaptation choices that can be forgiven and even some choices that I actively liked (god bless the texas montage and the lake scene) there are just three that make me go why the actual fuck did this happen:

1. Flattening of all young women characters/getting rid of June in favor of Nora ESPECIALLY when you take out Nora's plot importance later on in the story. I think you could give June the coming out scene and otherwise keep her and Alex's relationship, giving both June and Alex more shades of complexity as a result

2. Making the villain of the movie a jealous queer Latino man instead of, you know, the rich white conservative who exploited his assistants and abused his power. Not only optics, y'all, but removing the Luna&Richards plot severely decreases the personal stakes of the election scene at the end of the movie. Like, we're happy that Ellen won but we don't have a throughline as to why Richards is a villain in-movie (I know he's conservative and thus bad, but there are no PERSONAL stakes, if that makes sense)

3. Why they put Alex's coming out speech BEFORE he got to talk to Henry. Like. Just because of the order they edited these scenes in it gives off the uncomfortable implications that Alex is outing Henry without his consent. Which, like, yikes

Taylor take Alex's role so serious, I was reading a interview that he gave and boy... he read the book, watch western shows to get the spirit, talk to his friends and even he's mom about their perspective on the book. He's know it's a movie about romance but also about a young men learning about his on sexuality, his fears, learning to love and to be loved... He is the perfect as Alex on a screen can get.

"Do you know what?" Henry says. "I think you are."

Alex's mouth drops open, while the corner of Henry's turns smug and almost a little mean.

"Only a thought," Henry says, tone polite. "Have you ever noticed I have never once approached you and have been exhaustively civil every time we've spoken? Yet here you are, seeking me out again." He takes a sip of his champagne. "Simply an observation."

"What? I'm not - " Alex stammers. "You're the - "

"Have a lovely evening, Alex," Henry says tersely, and turns to walk off.

It drives Alex nuts that Henry thinks he gets to have the last word, and without thinking, he reaches out and pulls Henry's shoulder back.

Reading "bad metaphor about Maps" never fails to make me cry, I really fucking need to hear Taylor read it (again, demanding a full-cast audiobook once the strike is resolved, most of all I NEED to hear the boys read the book emails)

the day some of you realize that the book is still right there if you wanna see june or raphael luna or the scene at wimbledon or the detailed emails with the historical references is the day i'll know peace.

The movie's existence does not erase the book's existence and i'm gonna need you to stop acting like it does you children omg

RWRB TRAILER

okay I'm too excited to be coherent but that trailer was seriously better than I'd hoped for. there will definitely be some things I nitpick and worry over when I watch it back again but for a first glance they were fairly accurate with the vibe of the book and all the important scenes seem to be there. chemistry was lacking at moments but this trailer made me a lot more hopeful for Taylor and nick's portrayals of the characters.

RWRB PDF

I've seen a ton of people saying they can't check out the book or find it because its in high demand. So I figured I'd leave this totally very legal copy of the first edition (with bonus special edition chapter) of a totally popular and gay book lying around, in case, you know, anyone needed it.
