i've got the blu ray for volume 1 playing and i'm watching the behind the scenes video and Monty explicitly spells out how important collaboration with other creatives was in building RWBY, saying how he wanted to work with Kerry and Miles on it in creating the world and how he mostly gave them broad strokes. and it's mentioned how they all put the show bible together - i'm gonna put the whole transcript for the video under the cut (which i'm having to do myself because no one has uploaded this video anywhere as far as i can tell and there's no fucking subtitles)
Monty Oum [Creator and Director]: It’s the stories I’ve always wanted to tell versus the idea I came up with about, a little over a year ago. And we were talking about doing another show, and I just kind of half-asleep came up with the idea of a color rule for a bunch of characters. The red, white, black and yellow color scheme was something that was very prominent even in my previous work, so I started matching names up, matching ideas up. Also thinking about like, some of the ideas I’d stored up over the years. At some point or another the word ‘RWBY’ came to me.
Monty: Starting the show out originally, I designed the original character, Ruby, as well as going into the other characters. So once I had the first trailer done, and thinking about the rest of the characters for the show, I started bringing in other artists who I had watched for years. People I’d always said “someday I’ll work with them, someday I’ll have them design for me.” And when I was certain about having certain characters, I first contacted an artist I admired and found over DeviantArt. Her name was Ein Lee, she’s actually from Taiwan, and I found her art probably well over five years ago, and just loved her art style, and therefore wanted to incorporate it into my characters. So, I would do rough designs for team RWBY as well as designs for team JNPR, and she would flesh that out to be even further. To the point where eventually I didn’t need to design characters anymore, she started designing a bunch of the rest of the characters down the line.
Monty: The second person I brought on to RWBY was Kerry, because we had just been having conversations about the kind of show we could make. I’d been working with Miles on Season 10. He was writing scenes while I was making scenes, and so the three of us would have a lot of meetings and collaborate on the show to the point where I just started coming up with the broad strokes eventually and they had pretty much written the bulk of the show. Collaboration’s a big deal here, and I tried to include as many people as I can.
Kerry Shawcross [Co-writer]: Right after RvB ended, we wanted to just go straight into RWBY, but that was like right when we were going into commercial season. So we would work our normal hours here. Like 10 to 7-ish, then we would go back to one of our apartments and just start writing.
Miles Luna [Co-writer]: Monty really was enthusiastic about having these characters that may appear really one-dimensional for like the first few scenes that you see them, but the longer you get to know them, you realise “Oh, Yang isn’t just a dumb blonde party girl. She’s a very caring and nurturing girl, that has had to essentially be there for Ruby when she was young.”
Kathleen Zuelch [Producer]: When Monty and Miles and Kerry came to me, and really took me through the story. I started becoming a huge believer, because I’m a big fan of old school, traditional fairy tales, I love the Brothers Grimm, I love all the Snow White, and I love Little Red Riding Hood. I grew up with all of those stories, and the way that they were very clever in creating this whole world that’s kind of making homage to all of these amazing stories really inspired me to get more on board with what they wanted to do with this whole anime show.
Taylor McNee (née Pelto) [Art Director]: The world of RWBY, it looks very familiar. We wanted a blend of very classic looking architecture and clothing and cars, but we’re also mixing in this really kind of futuristic feel, like these little touches of some really futuristic stuff like holograms and things that you wouldn’t find in a classic [inaudible]. And that’s how we’re making this world unique. Our assets have to go through this pipeline of concept, modelling, texturing, and then finally being able to be put into the 3D program. So we start out with the concept and we usually bring that image into Maya, which is the main 3D software that we use. We have to make a 3D model that looks exactly like the concept that we were given, and it’s quite a process. Basically, we’re pushing polys and extruding stuff until we make the perfect shape, then afterwards we have to UV unwrap it, and then lay everything out on a texture sheet and then paint it, and that will put the image on the model. After that we’re basically done with the model and texture, and then we have to give it to the animators. So then we will set it up in Poser so the animators can grab it and use it for their characters.
Gray Haddock [Lead Editor]: There’s a lot of people working on this show, and there’s a lot of different elements in the pipeline. Editorial kinda serves as a hub between all the different departments, so we help all the communication and coordination between all the different pieces of the show, depending on what part of development that they’re in. Editorial’s getting involved way early in the process, we work alongside the director and the writers and the storyboard artists, and we use the scripts to help develop the storyboards and the camera angles for all those boards. So editorial is responsible for building up the moments of any given scene in terms of the timing and what you wanna look at, at any given moment. So we take the script and we help develop the camera angles and how long you wanna linger in a particular camera angle, look at one character or another or the scene as a whole, and the rhythm of the scene in terms of how long is it gonna take to spend on a particular line or when you want the music to come in, things like that. So we build up a set of animatics with the storyboards, and the first pass of all the audio. This is what then is handed off to the animators, so they can know exactly what is in what shot and how long do they have to animate it in a given shot. And once they’re done animating and their shot’s been approved, then their shot goes to the render farm, we get the rendered shot back and we drop it into the timeline for our episode and finesse the cut a little bit if we have to. But for the most part, we’ve done our job right and everything should pretty much be locked in for the most part by the time we’re getting animation.
Kerry: What’s kinda interesting as we’re creating the characters is, we kinda knew what kind of character they’d be. We knew Ruby would act a certain way, we knew Weiss would act a certain way, but we didn’t really know much about them. So we would get to the point where we’d be figuring out plotlines or figuring out dialogue and we’d be like “What would Weiss say here? What would Nora say here?” And then it turned into “Oh well now we know.”
Miles: Obviously we put a lot of thought into Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang before we started writing the dialogue. I remember sitting upstairs and we made a show bible, and we’re starting- we talked about likes, dislikes, personality traits. One of the first things I remember making was “Weiss drinks coffee. Blake drinks tea.”
Kerry: It’s important. It sounds not important at all, but it’s very important. It says so much about them
Miles: But it’s so important. So much about them, also it says nothing about them. It was just like- that’s just what it is.
Monty: I want the show to have resonance with people who are growing up. Cos everyone’s story is the story of kind of becoming who they are. Especially these days when the path of becoming who you are tends to be marginalised with reality. Having done what I’ve done, where I’ve essentially dropped out of high school, started learning this stuff on my own, and therefore land in a position where I get to take the things I was dreaming about when I was growing up and make it real. I tend to get a lot of response from people who are also not sure what they’re meant to become, a lot of them also have the same bright imaginations and with the way the world is, the hardships of what it means to grow up tends to marginalise who you are, and I would hate that to happen to anyone because the future is in creativity and that’s not something you can just manufacture. I actually would like this show to grow up with the people, so unlike most shows where they tend to be ageless or age very slowly, I’d like our fifteen-year-old fans watching fifteen-year-old Ruby, when they’re twenty-five, to be watching twenty-five-year-old Ruby, and to actually have some resonance with the character. Probably one of my favourite types of feedback is to say “I know this person” or “this person is just like me,” and that’s probably one of the best things about coming up with these characters.

Hello, saw your posts about RWBY Characters' Allusions. A question, does team rwby have another character allusion?
A lot of characters have more than one allusion, and team RWBY is no different. These allusions often have a character fill a complementary role of a significant figure in another fairy tale.
Let's start with Ruby Rose. She is of course Little Red, but there are also other characters she embodies. The Wolf in the story is known for his big & shiny eyes, a very notable feature of Ruby (that was pointed out by Ozpin in the first episode, just like the fairy tale). She is also her own huntsman, equip with an "axe" weapon of her own.
Tumblr media
Weiss Schnee is Snow White, but also takes other roles of the story based on her summons. Her Boartusk represents the huntsman, who killed a boar to spare the princess. Her Knight represents the noble prince who saves her. Her Queen Lancer represents the Evil Queen who plagues her. Weiss seems to take after the Evil Queen the most, with her friends often referring to her as "Ice Queen".
Tumblr media
After reading those first two, you can probably now understand why Blake is based on both Beauty & the Beast. She has Belle's beauty, part of her name, her love for books, her relationship to "Adam" and her tendency to run away. But like the Beast, she has animal traits that she hides, is haunted by a rose, prefers living in isolation, and eventually falls in love with a human girl. She is often seen in Forever Fall, a forest with wilting red flowers, representing the wilting rose that curses the Beast.
Tumblr media
Yang is Goldilocks with her destructive nature & yellow hair, but can also be seen as Baby Bear, the child of the Papa (Taiyang, blue eyes) & Mama (Raven, red eyes), resulting in Yang being a mix of both (purple eyes). Each parent compares Yang to the other, and she learns to embrace the good and bad traits of both in order to become "just right".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tale of Rose Red & Snow White, two young girls based on Little Red & Snow White, can be the inspiration for the partnership between Ruby & Weiss. The two were sisters, which is represented by the ever-growing bond between Ruby & Weiss. Weiss's fairy tale, Snow White, could also be the reason for Ruby's theme, Red Like Roses, which is how the Evil Queen described how red she wants her lips in the original tale (in some stories she compares it to blood in the snow, both line up perfectly with the Red Trailer & Players & Pieces).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Weiss also represents the story of the Snow Queen. She is called Ice Queen. She has a male companion (Kai/Whitley) who is cold, distant, & rude. She sets off to find the Snow Queen (Winter) in V5, during her trip she meets a talking corvid (Raven) & a robber maiden (Vernal). Weiss also gets pierced by evil glass like Gerda.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gerda’s most cherished memories is being young playing in the rose gardens with her friend. They shared many happy memories here. This rose garden takes the embodiment of Ruby Rose, who befriends Weiss & takes her on adventures. Weiss reminisces about Ruby in V4 after the attack on Beacon, missing the days when they had fun together. A frozen rose garden is seen in Weiss Character Short, representing her longing for Ruby (innocence, fun, freedom).
Tumblr media
Blake & Yang have so many allusions when it comes to their relationship. Start with Beauty and Beast. Blake already shows traits of both Belle & the Beast, but Yang does as well. Her affiliation with yellow, adventure, bright energy, & beauty is reminiscent of Belle. The Red Trailer even directly ties her with Blake, calling her the beauty to her beast. Yet Yang also displays signs of the Beast, most notably her behavior when she is angry. She sparks fire red eyes similar to the monstrous Grimm they fight, and is the most aggressive fighter of the group. She receives an injury on her arm identical to the Beast. Most importantly, she is abandoned by Beauty in V3. This theme of having similar & different traits within one another ties into another dynamic that will be explained later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are two roses that bring them together. They meet through Ruby, the good rose Yang gives to Blake. Adam is the bad rose that Blake tries to keep away from Yang, but he breaks them. Adam starts off as the Beast (Adam) to Blake’s Beauty. Once she leaves him (like the fairy tale) he then embodies the Rose that haunts her. Once he meets Blake’s new partner, he then becomes Gaston & adopts his jealousy. Once Blake & Yang defeat him, they free themselves from the curse and come back to the Good Rose.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Blake & Yang also represent the Yin & Yang dynamic. We have the darkness (Blake) and the light (Yang), with a little bit of each other in each (matching eyes). Many cultures depict Yin as a tiger (Blake's cat ears) and Yang as a dragon (Xiao Long). The themes of darkness and light has been associated with Blake & Yang since their trailers. Blake engulfs in darkness when she leaves, while Yang brings light when she enters (kind of like their semblances). Scenes with Blake & Yang play with lighting a lot (2x06, 6x01, 9x06), and fights involving them often have them circling around each other or moving across each other, just like the Yin Yang Symbol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Team RWBY as a whole also has references. One commonly known reference is the Wizard of Oz crew, with Ruby acting as Dorothy (who had Ruby/Silver slippers). Weiss is the Tin Man who gains heart while the real one loses it (Ironwood), Blake is the Lion who gains courage while the real one loses it (Lionheart), and Yang is the Scarecrow who learns to fight smarter while the real one acts irrationally (Qrow). These four adventurers set off to Beacon (Land of Oz), meet the Wizard (Ozpin), and get their wishes (graduating). They are told to stay on the Yellow Road, but fail.
Tumblr media
The team's respective Remnants also allude to their fairy tales. Ruby sheds roses, representing her red color scheme, her youthful innocence, and the flowers Little Red picks for her grandmother. Weiss sheds snow, representing her white color scheme, her cold attitude, and Snowhite's soft skin that gave her the name. Blake sheds shadows, representing her black color scheme, her dark personality and background, and the Beast condemned to the shadows. Yang sheds fire, representing her yellow color scheme, her bright but scorching personality, and the porridge Goldilocks claimed was "too hot".
Tumblr media
Ruby represents multiple figures from others characters’ allusions. Penny is based on Pinocchio, who wishes on a Shooting Star to be a real human. Ruby, who is often characterized as a small flickering light (literally & figuratively) she represents the star that Penny wishes for & makes her feel human (literally & figuratively).
Tumblr media
2x07 Dance Dance Infiltration is a retelling of the Cinderella story. The maiden is told she needs to return by midnight, puts on a disguise, & goes off. Ruby tracks her, Cinderella enters the stage, the two dance, and she leaves without a trace. Ruby in this case represents the Prince that wants to find the mysterious maiden he danced with the night before. His only clue was her missing glass slipper. Cinder fights with glass, a point Ruby reports to her professors as information to track her down.
Tumblr media
There's a lot more micro references to other fairy tales but these are the most notable for Team RWBY. These references influence how a character is portrayed, how they interact with others, and the actions they take.

Jaune: Ah, its Christmas time. *He says while watching The Snow falling* Witches celebrate Christmas?
Weiss: We actually celebrate The Yule day.
Ruby: Its where most Christmas traditions come from! *Being held by Blake to put the star on The Tree*
Jaune: So It Will be my First Yule then. We still get presents, right?
Weiss: Not from your kind of Santa.
Jaune: I see. And How about Yang? She is coming?
Ruby: I think she is still trying to get used to you. Because, you know. Being the mate of all 4 of us.
Blake: And you are a Witch Hunter and we... Well, we are Witches.
Jaune: Yeah... Oh, i think i have an ideia!
Weiss: And you are gonna Tell us?
Jaune: Nope. But i Will show you all, this night.
*later that night...*
Yang: Im home. *She notices Jaune near the other 3 in the Fireplace, wearing a yellow sweater.* and you still are Alive.
Jaune: Y-yang! I wanted to give you one thing. *he takes a box from the tree.* Happy Yule or something similar... Im still trying to get used to this.
*Yang raises an eyebrow, suspicious.*
Jaune: The others already have opened their presents. *Ruby shows a hat and a suitcase. Blake shows a book and Weiss shows a New bain for her Sword* Weiss made this Sweater for me.
Weiss: I thought he wanted to be cozy this Winter *blushes*
Jaune: And Ruby made me a new weapon set.
Ruby: Now he is ready for The fight.
Jaune: And Blake Gave me a book of magical species.
Blake: So he can understand us more.
Yang: Hm. And what you Will Give me?
*She opens The gift box, and sees a small Black suitcase, where It opens Into a red clothed Space.*
Jaune: Its a box to guard your gauntlets. Its Very strong so It can pack a punch. *snorts* Got It? Pack a punch?
Yang: ... *Tears start flowing*
Jaune: W-what?! Are you crying?!
Yang: Your joke...
Jaune: What?
Yang: *she starts crying and laughing* You made this perfect gift and mixed with a joke so funny! Pack a punch! Hahahahah!
*The 4 look at Yang with a confused look, before they start looking at her with a Surprised face and kisses Jaune in The lips, hugging him.*
Yang: I really loved It, Pretty Boy. Thank you.
Jaune: You're welcome. *he hugs her back, looking up* Oh. Its a Mistletoe.
Yang: A Mistletoe?
Jaune: Y-yeah. If two people are Under one, They must Kiss. And we kissed!
Ruby: So now its my turn!
Weiss: Your turn? Its actually my turn on kissing!
Blake: Fools, i got The best present so im next.
Yang: Wait a minute, im still Under The Mistletoe! So These lips are still Mine! *She grabs Jaune face, kissing him once again*
Ruby: No Fair! You kissed him 2 times already!
*The 4 girls got into a fight right after that, but It eventually things got more tranquil as They decided to share Jaune for themselves. It was a good night after this.*
*and what Yang gave to Jaune? A New bed, so If he wanted to Sleep some time alone, he could. But unfortunally, The girls liked to Sleep with him by their Side...*
Merry Christmas everyone

Add on to my theory of Jaune landing in the Ever after YEARS before RWBY.
What if the clocks and rabbit theme don't mean Jaune is the rabbit, but instead that he was the thing they were late for? What if Jaune searched for all that time for them... only to never find them? And assumed they had simply gone somewhere different to him?
And the knight is a much older Jaune who has spent years surviving in this place all alone? Would explain the rust and claw marks, maybe from fighting the jabberbeasts?
Tumblr media
(Adding your previous thing for context)
WHY WOULD YOU INFLICT THIS UPON ME
Like it’s certainly not canon, cause it seems like Yang has been there the longest and she fell first
BUT GOD CAN YOU IMAGINE??!
Like I want to add stuff to this my mind is too stuck on vicarious sadness even thinking about this concept. I’ve been trying to respond to this all day but I’ve really got nothing
Okay I’m back and no I lied I DO have thoughts
Him waking up alone on the beach or in the jungle. His shattered sword at his side. He’s traumatized and guilty and in shock
And he hates himself because he’s also hopeful
He doesn’t have any right to be hopeful after what he did, but if he’s here then maybe the others are too. He doesn’t want to see Ruby because he’s sure she’ll be furious with him, but she deserves to know
And he doesn’t know if he can stand being alone, as selfish as that is
So he searches. And he searches. He meets talking mice, and a talking cat, and a talking raccoon. Vines that move with a life of their own, a queen the size of a child and her playing card soldiers. He fights a beast that speaks single words and shudders like a cartoon a few frames out of sync, and his armor gains new scratches.
But he doesn’t find his friends.
He wonders if they’re looking for him, like he’s looking for them. Maybe they just keep missing each other. He goes back over his tracks. It takes days, months, weeks. It’s hard to tell how much time is passing, the suns never seem to move.
Maybe he’s dead.
The Blacksmith offers to forge a new life for him, so he can let his pain behind. A steed, a charge, a new purpose. All he’d have to give up is his self.
It’s been years, it has to have been. It’s hard to tell because the suns don’t move and he hasn’t aged. He never found his friends, never even found Penny’s body. If he’s dead, then back in the real world the war must be over.
One way or another, he has nothing left.
Jaune accepts.
The next day, a golden haired woman wanders cautiously into the market, followed by a woman with hair as white as snow, a woman with a face of beauty and ears of a beast. Trailing after them is a woman in a red hood.
The Knight does not recognize their faces. He does not recognize their voices.
But they recognize him.
Even with his armor rusted and scratched. Even with his sword shattered at his side. They speak to him, beg him to remove his helmet, and they gasp when he does.
The Knight doesn't understand why they're upset.
He doesn't understand that he looks precisely the same as the last time they saw him. Hair still awkwardly cropped and sun yellow, shadows under his eyes from lack of sleep. Only the eyes themselves are different, their clear blue darkened by unseen years.
Another friend they were too late to save.

Expanding with this post:
The Yin has some Yang in it and the Yang has some Yin in it. They are represented by white and black.
White- Weiss, she is the yang with some yin in it (being Ruby as her color scheme has black on it)
Black- Blake, she's the yin since she has some yang in it (being Yang for obvious reasons)
Yin is associated with femininity, the darkness, the night, the moon. Which goes perfectly with both Ruby and Blake.
Yang is associated with the sun, with light, with masculinity. It goes really well with Yang (lol) and Weiss.
Ruby being canonically the moon and Yang being the sun, which comes again with the whole Yang name meaning the balance of nature.
Red and Blue and Purple and Yellow being complementary colors. Red and Blue creating Purple.
Yang and Blake having each other souls in their eyes.
Ruby and Weiss being the knight/prince in each other stories.
Red and Yellow being warm colors.
Rose-Snow, Belladonna (a flower) - Sun
Ruby and Blake being the leader type while Weiss and Yang are their support.
Ruby- born in fall
Weiss- born in spring
Blake- born in winter
Yang- born in summer
A white rose and a bee...
I'm insane

Shallot gold great ape rampage ends wgen weiss yells at him making him go super saiyan 4 for first time
A horrific roar erupted throughout the snowy Tundra outside of Atlas, a giant, golden-furred ape in familiar blue armor rampaged. Attacking friend and foe alike, Shallot ran rampant, after looking at the moon and transforming into a Golden Oozaru. The monstrous beast's transformation was a ploy by Cinder, knowing that seeing an ally would trigger a great sense of dread/demoralization; a potent magnet for the Grimm. Flying Beringel, Lancers, Griffons, Megoliaths, and Nevermore attacked Team RWBY and the Atlesian Forces that were in the area.
If some unlucky soldier wasn't attacked by the nightmarish creatures, they found themselves thrown or crushed by the rampaging Shallot. He roared, pounding his chest uncontrollably, a sign of him having lost his rationality. The golden ape swatted away airships and flying Grimm that got too close to him. He turns his attention to the floating kingdom of Atlas, opening his maw and an ominous greenish-yellow Ki Sphere begins to form.
"SHALLOT!!" Weiss Schnee screamed at him, as she rode on one of her Summons, the Queen Lancer. "STOP! LOOK AT WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!"
Hearing the voice of the former heiress stopped him from charging the blast, which would've ended the floating city. Shallot turns his head to Weiss, staring at her with those crimson, pupilless eyes. The white-haired Huntress sat on her mount, gesturing to the carnage taking place. Meanwhile, the rest of Weiss' team was fighting the Fall Maiden, who was besting them one by one and her main focus was Ruby.
"You're doing what Cinder wants," Weiss pleaded to him, which caused the beast to turn his gaze to the fight between the trio and the aforementioned madwoman; witnessing Yang being slashed by the woman's Grimm Arm. "Do you really want to help her? Help Salem?!"
Blinking, as if rational thought began to return to the Saiyan. The Oozaru growled, then roared as he became surrounded by a blinding bright light. Meanwhile, Ruby clashed the blade of Crescent Rose against Cinder's blades of Midnight. The young Huntress was moved back towards a cliff inch by inch. Then, the one-eyed woman grabbed the scythe and plunged it firmly into the snow. Cinder knocked Ruby off of her feet, grabbing her by her throat with her human hand.
"See what you did to me, brat!?" Cinder raises her Grimm Claw, fire erupting from the edges of her lips. "To make things fair, an eye for an eye."
"Makes the whole world blind," a baritone but familiar voice spoke up, grabbing the black-skinned claw. "Somethin' Weiss said to me."
"What?!" The Fall Maiden turns to the interloper, only to be punched off the cliff. Ruby is free, falling onto her knees, looking up towards her savior.
It was Shallot, but he was shirtless, his body covered in crimson fur and his spiky hair longer and unruly than before. He gazed down at her with gold eyes, surrounded by red lines. Somehow, the warrior still has his gleaves, shorts, and boots. Ruby rubs her eyes as Shallot takes notice of a more enraged Cinder, using her abilities to float and surround herself in fire.
"How about ya pick on somebody ya own size, witch!"

I learned today that Tumblr posts are limited to only 100 inline links. I also learned that if I keep doing this I will probably vomit blood.
I think what I'll do later is just dedicated mod posts for the AUs, though Mod Green will probably need 1 or 2 or 3 posts lol.
I've been skipping one / two-liners mostly. But if you really want to seek them, you can use the mod's personal tag to search for them.
Currently, the post range of this post is March 24th 2021 to November 15th 2019.
Mod Green

Nitpick November #3
Why is Summer Rose white?
UM ACTUALLY WAIT THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT
What I mean is why is Summer Rose's primary color white? When I think of summer, I think of warm colors: A yellow and orange sun, red hot, golden beaches. If I wanted to be creative, I could throw in some cold colors, sure: Green grasses, and blue skies and oceans.
But white? That's a color that mostly belongs to winter because of its snow. Something that RT clearly gets, because they have a character named Winter.
And sure, just because someone is named after a certain color doesn't mean it's going to be their favorite (Something I have joked about in one of my fanfics), but RWBY isn't presenting it this way. Summer Rose has a white cape because that's the color they decided upon.
It just feels like there was no thought put into it.

RWBY What IF
Weiss.
On the bridge Weiss had to do the unthinkable. Kill Penny. This let Penny pass the maiden powers into Winter. Afterwards Weiss raised her bloody sword against Cinder. Tears poured down her cheeks. Her chest hurt. Anger flooded her mind.
She charged Cinder. Starting a fight that couldn't be won. Cinder quickly overwhelmed Weiss knocking her into the Void. Weiss fell. Fell through the World. She fell until the darkness clouded her vision. When she awakened she found herself stuck in some sort of wonderland.
She explored this strange place. Nothing made since. Talking animals? Living objects? magical creatures? What was happening?
Tick Tock
That's what she heard. A ticking clock nearby caught her attention. Or was it fruit? Maybe both? It was a clock fruit?
Weiss pulled the clock from the tree. The clock's hands stopped ticking. They started to move in reverse direction. Faster and faster. The sky seemed to mimic this clock. Reversing day and night. Night and Day. Night and day. Over and over spinning in the wrong direction.
Smash! Weiss's blade struck the clock, smashing it. Stopping the spinning. Stopping the days that soared backwards. What was that? What did that clock fruit do?
Weiss waited for her team. Visiting the beach every night. Nothing. Years passed and she continued to wait.
Until one night she spotted a familiar red scythe wash up on the shoreline. Followed by an unknown girl. A girl named Alyx. The Girl Who Fell Through the World. And her brother? This didn't make sense. It was just a fairy tale.
Right?
Weiss, Alyx, and Lewis worked together for the next year. Trying to find a way home. Meeting up with the Curious Cat from the story. Exploring more of the Ever After. It was all happening just like the story. Or she thought it was. Until they met the herbalist.
The herbalist talked about Ascension. Becoming something better. Something new. Weiss and Lewis pleaded with Alyx. We have to get home. We have to follow the story. But that only made her distrust them. She became rude and untrusting. Only listening to the cat.
Up until that night. When she finally apologized. She had made Weiss a bowl of soup made from the various berries she had found around the forest. It was delicious for a second. But it changed. It sucked the breath from her body. She struggled. She fell to the ground choking.
Poison ran through her body. Slowly killing her from the inside. Alyx stood above her. Glaring at her. You deserve this, She said. Weiss watched her walk away. Where was Lewis? Still investigating the tree? Weiss gasped for air. She clutched Crescent Rose to her chest.
What would Ruby do? I don't know. Weiss's vision blurred. The breath of air escaping her body. Tears soaked her cheeks. It was over. She was dead. Or not. Weiss had opened her eyes. She was freezing. Her body was sore. She was laying on a pile of... snow?
Where am I? The question echoed in the frozen chamber. You are in the Frozen Palace my queen. The creature that stood before her was a man made of ice? He called her Queen. Why? Later realizing that she had created this place. Her semblance had evolved.
Over time her body healed. She was finally able to walk again. But she wasn't complete. Her body was fragile. Side effects from the poison that had flowed through her. She was also alone. Except for the creature which she later called Klein. He took care of her.
A decade had passed when she spotted the red star shooting through the sky. Followed by a purple star and a yellow star. Had her friends finally arrived? She needed to find out. She'd stopped using her sword a long time ago and her semblance had become too hard to control.
What was she going to do?
Author: This is less of a story and more of a summary on how Weiss ended up in the Ever After for a decade. It's pretty much the same as Jaune's story only Weiss isn't the Rusted Knight. She's the Ice Queen.

RWBY illusions (taken from RWBY wiki) - Team RWBY & Penny
Ruby Rose - Little Red Riding Hood (Little Red Riding Hood)
Ruby wears a red, hooded cape, much like Little Red Riding Hood.
The "Red" Trailer, which introduces Ruby, features her walking through a forest and being attacked by a pack of Beowolves, which are wolf-like Grimm. Little Red Riding Hood traveled through a forest, followed by a wolf, which later ate her grandmother and attacked her.
Roman Torchwick's nickname for her is "Red".
During "Heroes and Monsters", Roman call her "Little Red".
She is referred to as "Little Red" again by Cinder Fall during "The Coming Storm".
Weiss Schnee - Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves)
The literal translation of Weiss' name, from German to English, is "White Snow".
The song Mirror Mirror heavily references the evil queen's use of a magic mirror, with the lyrics "Mirror, tell me who's the loneliest of all" referencing the queen's line "Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" This song first plays in the "White" Trailer, which serves as Weiss' introduction.
The pendant on the necklace Weiss wears with her original battle outfit is an apple, referencing the poisoned apple that Snow White takes a bite of.
Advertisements for Schnee Dust Company merchandise bear the slogan "The finest of them all", referencing the evil queen's phrase "who's the fairest of them all".
Blake Belladonna - Belle and The Beast (Beauty and the Beast)
Blake loves to read, much like Disney's version of Belle.
In the episode "The Shining Beacon, Pt.2", Blake is seen to own a candelabra, which references Lumière, the living candelabra from the Disney adaptation. According to Miles Luna, this was part of an attempt to surround her with lots of "Belle-related items".
Red Like Roses has the lyric "Black the Beast descends from shadows”.
Like The Beast, Blake has animal traits and is ostracized for them
Gambol Shroud's asymmetrical dual wield form is inspired by her duality of being both Belle and The Beast.
In BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, Blake's two Distortion attacks are called Untouchable Beauty and Ferocious Beast.
Yang Xiao Long - Goldilocks (Goldilocks and the Three Bears)
The "Yellow" Trailer, which serves as an introduction for Yang, takes place in Hei "Junior" Xiong's nightclub. During the course of the trailer, she knocks out a DJ who is wearing a bear mask and fights Junior. The literal translation for Junior's name, from Chinese to English, is Black Bear. That, added with his nickname, Junior, makes him the "baby bear" to her Goldilocks.
Yang's first fight in the series proper is against a pair of Ursai, bear-like Grimm, in the episode "The Emerald Forest". This again is another allusion to the three bears in the story of Goldilocks.
Yang places great value on her long, thick, golden-blonde locks of hair.
Her Volume 4 "DGAS" outfit has a patch on the left leg of her pants depicting three Ursa masks, thus referencing the three bears.
In "Welcome to Haven", there is a fuel station called "Just Rite". In the fairy tale, Goldilocks tries the bowls of porridge, chairs and beds successively, each time finding the third "just right". In the same episode, the Shady Man and Yang herself describe her body as being "not too bulky, not too lean" but "just right".
Later during RWBY Volume 5:Yang Character Short, Yang was again seen battling another Ursa Grimm.
Penny Polendina - Pinocchio (The Adventures of Pinocchio)
The name "Penny" is similar to "Pinocchio". Her last name, Polendina, comes from the derogatory nickname that Pinocchio's creator, Geppetto, was given, due to his yellow wig bearing resemblance to polenta in the original story.
She is a sentient robot. Pinocchio is a sentient wooden puppet.
In "A Minor Hiccup", Penny says "I'm not a real girl." This statement is similar to Pinocchio's statements of wanting to be "a real boy".
In the same episode, Penny hiccups whenever she tells a lie, just as Pinocchio's nose would grow in length whenever he told a lie.
She manipulates her swords through the use of very thin wires, similar to how a puppet is controlled with thin strings.
Penny receiving the power of the Winter Maiden from Fria is an allusion to her finally becoming a real girl due to the power only being able to bond with Aura, similar to Pinocchio becoming a real boy upon receiving the Blue Fairy's blue magic.
Multiple instances throughout Volumes 7 & 8, Penny is referred to as a "toy" or "magical puppet".
Ambrosius making Penny a human body is another reference to Pinocchio becoming a real boy.

RWBY: Grim Tales
Blood Reborn
Arthur panted and grunted, his flickering as they tried to open. As we woke up, he saw a woman above him. She had snow white hair, bright yellow eyes and wore a black hood. She stared at him with a vacant expression.
Girl in white: Welcome back. Hello. How are you feeling?
Arthur tried to sit up but was struggling. His whole body was hurting. The girl in white put her hands on his back and gently helped him sit. Arthur looked around and found himself in the middle of a ruined city. The buildings were decimated, the roads were cracked and the lights had fallen. What struck out to him the most was a torn flag. Its coat of arms were two axes above a green wreath. Arthur was stunned. This was Vale City... or rather what was left of it.
Girl in white: Don't worry, it's okay. I don't remember either. *stands up and points in the distance* Over there.
Arthur: *grunts as he stands*
The girl in white was pointing at what looked like a bone-white tree. Immidiately, she started walking. Arthur followed her, not knowing what was going on.
Girl in white: It's dry, isn't it? We can go slowly.
Arthur's body felt really weak, shaking and stumbling as he walked. His foot slipped one a crack and he nearly fell over. The girl in white quickly grabbed his arm and helped him back up.
Girl in white: I am here with you.
Arthur: *nods slowly*
The two of them continued walking towards the tree.
Girl in white: Just a bit further. We're alright. A spring will slake our thirst.
Now that she mentioned it, Arthur's throat was as dry as sand. He couldn't remember the last time water had touched his lips. As he walked further to the tree, he saw the girl in white kneel down and touch the roots.
Girl in white: It seems everyone everywhere is thirsty. There is a spring that will cure that thirst. One that weeps tears of blood. *stands up* That's what they said, anyway. *backs further to the tree* This way.
Arthur walked a little bit, but suddenly doubled over. Flashes of someone appeared in his head; a girl with silver eyes and a red hood. His eyes started glowing bright scarlet.
Arthur: *growls*
Girl in white: It's alright...
Arthur: *hisses*
Girl in white: *grabs his arm and bites it*
A few drops of blood fell from Arthur's arm and onto the roots. Sprouting from them were thin branches and leaves, followed by a gush of wind and small, bright blue lights. The pain had subsided and Arthur saw a crystallised white and red fruit grow from one of the branches. The girl in white picked it and handed it over to him.
Girl in white: Here, this is for you.
He had no idea why, but this strange fruit looked very appetising. Arthur grabbed it and bit into it greedily. He began to feel different. His throat and body no longer hurt and his vision was clearing up. However, the exhaustion still remained and as he finished, he returned to sleep. The girl in white took his head and gently placed it on her lap. She stroked his dark blue hair and frowned, lamenting of the fate that would await him and the Huntsmen and Huntresses of this new Remnant.

RWBY Retrospective: The Four Color Trailers
-- The four color trailers started out as a proof of concept for an idea for a web series about four girls by the series creator, Monty Oum. The Red Trailer, which Oum animated by himself before bringing in others to help with the rest, was his pitch to the company, one that obviously worked out for him. This project in and of itself holds very little story relevance. There’s, of course, the little red hooded girl and her sniper scythe, the Grimm which will be revamped for the series proper, and the mysterious grave marker Little Red was visiting during her stroll through the snowy woods.
Even the song playing over it all gives us very little at first glance. We have the lyrics:
Red Like Roses fills my dreams,
And leads me to the place you rest,
White is cold and always yearning,
Burdened by a royal test,
Black the beast descends From Shadows,
Yellow beauty burns Gold
In hindsight, this is hinting at our other leading ladies, giving us a glimpse of what they’re like before going into the full instrumental. The music, along with Monty’s amazingly kinetic action, becomes the real star of the show here.
-- The White Trailer does give us a little more to work with, opening with the quote “Everyone is entitled to their own sorrow, for the heart has no metrics or form of measure. And all of it… irreplaceable.” The quotes are something that will carry over to the rest of the trailers and they do a good job of setting the tone for each one.
We’re also treated to our first small taste of voice acting as the disembodied announcer introduces us to ‘Weiss Schnee’ who will be the focus of this trailer. From here we have a similar set up to the first time out. A lone girl fighting off a threat while Jeff Williams’ amazing composition and Casey Lee Williams’ lovely vocals lead us through. And once again the color scheme is predominantly made up of black, white, and a splash of red outside of Weiss’ use of “magic.”
This character is encased in imagery of mirrors and reflection, not only in their use of the song Mirror Mirror but also in how we transition from her performing on stage to her fight against the giant suit of armor. All of this comes together to create the cold loneliness hinted at in Red Like Roses.
-- Now we move on to the Black Trailer which I feel actually stands out the most among its peers, at least in terms of its presentation.
The first two trailers had a real fairytale feel to them. We had Red Riding Hood fighting a horde of Big Bad Wolves and Snow White using “magic” to best a towering knight in shining armor. The music was eerily beautiful and haunting. Here we’re treated to a heavy rock duet while our two leads slash through robots during what seems to be a train heist. This will also showcase the first of many of Jeff’s signature guitar solos to come.
Throughout this trailer our two leads show off their incredible synchronicity as they make their way through the train, alluding to a long, shared history between them. They’re partners. At least, that’s how it appears. As the sequence progresses, however, the feeling of Adam overshadowing Blake in her own trailer becomes more obvious. He’s the first voice we hear. He’s the one that gets in the first shot against the enemy. He saves Blake at one point. He is clearly giving the orders on this mission. He’s the one that gets to have the super ultra cool finishing move against the boss. The trailer properly opens with Blake set against the vibrant red tree line.
The quote that this trailer opens with is “Your hopes have become my burden. I will find my own liberation.” And at the very end, that’s exactly what Blake sets out to do as she literally and figuratively cuts ties with her partner. This is the moment that the trailer finally, finally becomes about her as her black silhouette stands out starkly against the pure red backdrop and she leaves Adam behind.
-- And with that, it’s time we talk about the fourth and final trailer, the Yellow Trailer. “Scathing eyes ask that we be symmetrical, one sided and easily processed. Yet every misshapen spark’s unseen beauty is greater than its would be judgement.” This is the first thing we are shown in Yang’s trailer. This quote is asking its audience to not take everything they’re about to be shown at face value. It’s something that’s highlighted not even two minutes later when Junior of all people underestimates Yang as she enters the club.
Yang plays her part at first, strutting into the club and lowering Junior’s guard with some banter so that she can extract information out of him. What transpires from here is an all-out brawl, once again showing off some of Monty’s excellent choreography which at points does look like the combatants are dancing. In the end it all culminates in one final punch from Yang as, surprise, Little Red makes an appearance. It feels almost like a full circle moment, bringing together the first and last trailer.
Yang’s trailer has some interesting choices on display. Throughout most of it we hear remixes of Red Like Roses, Mirror Mirror, and From Shadows before we get into Yang’s own anthem I Burn. And it’s not even the actual version of the song but another remix. This does suit the club setting, but it still feels like a choice worth noting.
This trailer also significantly breaks away from the others’ black, white, and red color scheme. Those colors are still prominent in the trailer, but Yang’s golden mane is hard to ignore, as well as the brown and orange present in the rest of her design. This trailer also comes across as the most grounded, or at least as close to grounded as baseball bat rocket launchers and shotgun gauntlets can be. Instead of fairytales and sci-fi we have a girl beating down thugs in a night club.
-- The four trailers work well as a hook into the series for newcomers. They show off our four leads, provide some mystery, as well as present us with some excellent spectacle in the colors and action. While they aren’t entirely necessary for the viewing experience of the show, most would say they’re worth a watch as there are some callbacks.
Some General and Unfiltered Thoughts
I genuinely enjoy the trailers. Not only is it just fun to go back and compare where the show started to how it is now, but they are truly just a joy to watch. The music and action really are the highlights of these videos. Not surprising.
I was shocked that Blake’s trailer was the one I had the most to say about and the one I had a more thorough storyline I wanted to discuss because of the four trailers hers is admittedly my least favorite. Or at least it was when I first got into the show back in 2016. Meanwhile, I had the hardest time really getting my thoughts gathered about Yang’s trailer despite her being my favorite character in the show. Period.
There really is a lot of symbolism to work with when regarding the Black Trailer though so perhaps it isn’t that surprising.
All in all, while a little clunky in some areas this is the show’s starting point and it’s such a special and memorable one.
