Note
For the rwby ask thing, 7, 20, 28
Thanks for sending these over! <3
7. Favorite lines? A brief list, for the consideration of the Academy:
Roman's dying monologue in 3x11 Salem's entire monologue in 3x12 "Nobody needed to die today" -Hazel, 5x02 "I'm sorry." "Yeah. Me too." -Raven/Yang, 5x14 Ozpin's entire monologue in 7x13 Watts' monologue to Cinder in 8x10 "I've never wavered in fighting the enemies of this kingdom. And I won't start now." -Winter, 8x13
Honorable mention for anything Oobleck ever said, because he's hilarious.
20. What are you looking forward to seeing in Vacuo? Obviously, meeting the Summer Maiden. Also seeing Sun and Neptune again, Mercury's redemption arc, and RAVENNNN 💖
27. Favorite voice performance? Lindsay and Miles were so good in Volume 9, but I gotta say, Jessie James Grelle as Tyrian and Aaron Dismuke as Oscar have always impressed the hell out of me. Roman's performance also always felt the most natural and genuine to me in the whole show.
@greenbeany @squipedmew @definitelynotgayforqrow @actualbampot come answer these ^-^

Yang was angry... then she chose not to be.
I see a lot of people complaining that Yang and Blake did not have a talk. I’ve seen a lot of posts stating that Yang’s PTSD and anger was absent. It was clearly in the episode if you look closely. You can see Yang frown and glare at Blake.
Tumblr media
As Ruby is talking, Yang remembers all her anger. I imagine it was then she had a flashback to her talk with Weiss. Yang CHOSE not to be angry. She decided to be there for her friend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She chose to FORGIVE Blake for leaving. Yang progressed. Yes, I still think we need a talk. I think if the writers had Yang yell at Blake or display any resentment, it would not have been growth. All the growth we’ve seen this volume would have been for nothing. Honestly, I believe the writing was spot on, and the fact that Yang could choose to be strong and present for her friend - and her team - is what we should all be focusing on.

SOME KEY SMASH FEELINGS ABOUT THE FINALE
disclaimer I am a huge bumblebee shipper but I support blacksun all the way if I wasn't so in love with bees id ship it too
-Yass Ilia girl GET IT
-Blake and Adams whole exchange (feat. Sun) was fuckin. great. I know a lot of people had issues with how calm Blake was while facing Adam but I think she's still scared, just tired of being the one to run away, like she says. and this whole episode is basically about bravery, and how you can still be scared shitless but do what needs to be done anyways.
-also YASS DRAG HIM
-and I KNEW they weren't done with Adam yet! theres no way he could be taken down that easily when he's been built up this whole time! I'm calling it: he's gonna be the big bad at the end of next season. fuck. him. up. girls.
-I loved Blake and Sun so much this episode.
-MY GIRL BLAKE COMING IN CLUTCH DURING THIS BATTLE! + SHES READY TO FIGHT ALL THEM BITCHEZ! SHES EXTRA AS HELL. WHAT AN ENTRANCE. 10/10.
-TEAM ATTACKS!!!!!!!!
-raven. is a fuckin bitch.
-as soon as it was revealed that raven was the new maiden I kinda figured she murdered the last one but holy shit yang just asking her about it bluntly like that and raven trying to defend it like it was the right thing to do was just. holy shit man.
-(rip background vernal)
-HOLY SHIT “did you kill her too?” MY GOD YANG YES READ HER
-”OH SHUT UP” YASS. MY GIRL.
-this whole scene made me think so much of the “yang is the embodiment of strength” thing from Blake and suns conversation earlier this season. she's terrified of everything but she realized that bravery is being afraid but doing what needs to be done anyways which is again, what the whole episode was about but holy shit I have never loved yang so much in my entire life
-thats a lie I always love yang with my whole entire heart
-when raven cried? I had so many feelings? and then Yang cried? and then I cried?
-yang breaking down in the magic desert with the triwizard cup.
-#GIVEYANGALLTHEHUGS2K18
-Lionhearts death was so fucking BRUTAL. him being dragged across the ground like that looked straight out of a horror movie and then he way he was still begging even after (presumably) being stabbed (Im going with stabbed through the chest first and then she went for the throat but idk) was fucking dark as shit my dudes. wow.
-and Salem looked so bored after. I felt like she needed a glass of wine in one hand while she wrote out a new tweet: “good help is so hard to find these days, wish my pawns would stop disappointing me #tookoutthetrash”
-so I am so convinced Emerald is in love with Cinder? her reaction when Cinder didn't come up made me actually so sad, cause she's so devoted to her.
-honestly I think I just want more lesbians but really am I wrong about this?
-BLAKE AND YANG SMILING AT EACH OTHER.
- THAT ILLUSION. I love the fact that this season the opening credits were taken so literally. also illusion Salem is both terrifying but she also looked like she belonged in a ghostbusters movie.
-when it cuts back to them it looks like yang gives exactly 0 fucks.
-Adam looking at Hazel, Mercury and Emeralds escape and then leaving alone. yeah bro. great powerful friends you got there. fucking dick.
-belladonna fam hugs
-based on this conversation I think next season will kinda conclude the White Fang storyline. I don't think the Faunus rights stuff will go away but I think we are gonna start focusing on the relics and the maidens and Salem specifically
-again Sun and Blake are SO DANG CUTE this episode! the whole spinning Blake around with his tail thing! if I didn't ship Bees much I would ship Blacksun with y'all, I totally get it. he's just so encouraging and sweet this episode! (I might start to ship both, ngl)
-YANG WHY THE FUCK YOU LYIN
-YAY! MY SWEET GIRLS ARE ALL BACK TOGETHER AGAIN! Weiss and Ruby being all worried about each other when they both god fucking wrecked like 2 episodes ago! Yang checking on her sister first because she still isn't quite sure how to react to Blake being there! Blake looking so unsure of herself because she still getting used to the idea that people will forgive her for the things she thinks she's done, and then they're so okay with her being there and she's like “I'm not going anywhere” and Weiss and Ruby look so happy about that and Yang looks so conflicted cause like. Blake did leave her when she was really vulnerable and but she just came back and she's gonna stay and Blake looks so prepared for Yang to hate her and she basically forgives her with one word and I SWEAR TO GOD SHES BLUSHING AND BLAKE LOOKS SO RELIEVED AND THEY HAVE A GROUP HUG AND THE SONG PLAYING AND MY HEART. IM FUCKING. HURFHFHJFJHSEFDJDEKDEJESFJJNSDFJNFDHGFYHEDKWD
-AND IF YOU LOOK WHEN THE GROUP HUG IS OVER YANG AND BLAKE IMMEDIATELY LOOK AT EACH OTHER AND YOU CANT SEE YANGS FACE BUT HOLY SHIT BLAKES FACE LOOKS SO??? LOVING???? AND HAPPY LIKE I DONT THINKS SHES EVER LOOKED BEFORE AND I CANT. I CANNOT. I AM WRECKED FROM THIS.
-so for sure I definitely wanted bees to happen this episode. but. I completely agree that if they are going to go that fired tin in the show, now wasn't really the time. they haven't seen each other for months. and yeah Yang has forgiven Blake but they haven't exactly talked about it. theres a lot of damage that was caused by everything that happened at the end of season 3, and while they've grown a lot as people and learned through other people to understand the reasons for the others actions, they really need to have a proper talk before anything serious can happen with them. that being said, I really hope for a conversation with an instrumental version of BMBLB playing in the background within the first few episodes of season 6. please.
-give me my slow burn gays
-”GET THIS SHIT TO ATLAS MOTHERFUCKER” “<SIGH>”
-the end credit song is SO FUCKING GOOD OH MY GOD LET ME AT THE SOUNDTRACK RT PLEASE WHY MUST YOU TORTURE US THIS WAY
-when Tai glares at Raven tho. please actually fulfill your end credit sequence and let them have a conversation. please please please.
and this concludes my swear filled review of RWBY season 5 episode 14. I'm gonna watch it for the fourth time and them cry and then maybe sleep, cause its 3 am and I am. emotions.

RWBY5 finale first reaction
*spoilers alert*
See, Adam, Blake is not interested in you anymore.
Adam:
Okay, so the bird magic can be usde on battlefields ……How did he carry his weapon anyway? Well, it’s MAGIC!
HEARTWARMING MOTHER DAUGHTER CONVERSATIONS
YAP, I totally called it!!! Raven killed the former spring maiden to spare her from suffering. But was the girl willing to be killed or not that’s still up in the air.  (SHADY BIRB MOM INTENSIFIED)
Yang and Raven were so much alike, especially the posture when Raven said she was sorry.
What? Yang took the relic?
WHAT? RAVEN YOU JUST LEFT???
WWWWHHHHAAAAAATTTTTTTTT????
And where did she portal??
RIP Leo (Well, we all saw that coming.)
Team RWBY is back together!!! And Ruby wHy didNt yOU SAID THIS LINE?!
So we’re going to Atlas next volume? Ohhhhhhhhyeeeesssss!!! I WANT TO SEE WINTER PLEASE I MISS HER SO MUCH
OMG BEST DAD
OMG RAVEN WAS PORTAL TO TAI
OMG MY HEADCANON SORT OF CAME TURE
OH ROOSTER TEETH YOU’D BETTER NOT LET HER JUST PASSING BY OR I WILL BE PISSED
Honestly, I kinda feel cp.14 was just…… not enough to be a chapter. I feel like it can be shorter and combined to the last chapter and that would make it a awesome finale. This chapter was just like a attachment for cp.13, not really much new happened and the impact was not strong enough. I still like the finale, but a bit disappointed because cp.13 really hyped up and the following was just…… Well, that just my opinion.

So what gets me every time about the confrontation between Yang and Raven is that...
Tumblr media
like...
Tumblr media
giiiiiiiirls, you’re both so unhappy with this. None of them leaves this situation as a winner. Yeah, Raven has her freedom and Yang has the relic, but both of them are left heartbroken and crying. This isn’t making them happy and can’t you just hug already because my tiny little heart can’t take it any longer. Just anything. Please be happy again because if you cry I’m crying as well. Please.

A comprehensive list of all the times RWBY went so hard that whenever I think about them for more than 0.5 seconds, I’m immediately sent back in time to the first time I watched them:
Red Trailer: Ruby pulling Crescent Rose out for the first time is a religious experience and the most delightful moment to watch in people’s reaction videos, followed by Crescent Rose turning into a scythe.
1x08 Players and Pieces: Everything after Blake and Yang’s cute little “What is it?” “Nothing” exchange up until Ruby standing at the top of the cliff is a cinematic masterpiece. It was just a delight to see these two not yet officially formed teams fighting as a unit for the first time. And the way Red Like Roses Part II’s lyrics kick off when team RWBY’s portion starts and really goes hard as Ruby’s flying through the air is 👌👌👌. Plus Yang solidified her place as my favourite when she jumped into the Nevermore’s mouth so she could shoot bullets down its throat while holding its beak open with one arm. Hot.
3x11 Heroes and Monsters: The last two and a half minutes of the episode are. The longest two and a half minutes of my life. Sometimes I rewatch it and it’s just like. Wow. All that really happened. That was really the moment Yang lost her arm.
3X12 The End of the Beginning: I’m sorry, Pyrrha.... but the two moments that hit me the hardest were Blake holding Yang’s hand as she tearfully apologized, and “And Blake ran!” The beginning of my journey as a Blake stan because that was the moment I knew without a doubt in my heart the extent to which Blake loved her team. Which was that they’re the entire world to her.
5x13 Downfall: Fucking “... Yang?” ruined my life. And one of my plates. Because I broke it while washing the dishes after watching the episode. More of that on Monday. (How it ruined my life, not my broken plate)
5x14 Haven’s Fate: The team RWBY hug... Like, yes, yes, the Bees right before it was very good too, but. I cannot express the relief it was to see them all hugging each other as “together we’re here” was playing. They were finally together again after almost two years apart and everything was right in the world.
6x06 Alone in the Woods: I will die on my hill that Blake almost getting got by the Apathy was one of the most horrifying things they’ve put in the show and my levels of distress are just as high every single time I watch it. There are actually tears in my eyes every time I watch that scene, okay? So that up until Maria talks Ruby through using her silver eyes is just. Oof.
6x12 Seeing Red: So like, the entirety of the Bees vs. Adam was amazing and I would die for all of it, but starting from the return of the full glory of Yang’s semblance to the end of the scene was like. Be still my heart. The Biggest Moment being “I know you won’t” and the fucking weight that carried.
6x13 Our Way: Listen... The first buildup to Ruby trying to use her silver eyes, the way she remembered seeing the people she loves suffer, using Jinn to get extra time, the second buildup with that music swelling and ending in the reveal of Summer and fucking Indomitable. Whoever decided they should redraw a whole bunch of scenes to convey Ruby’s memories is an emotional sadist and I love them.
Also, technically Not The Show, but songs that also have that effect: Cold, Armed and Ready, BMBLB, All That Matters, Nevermore, and Indomitable.

Yo guys, I had an epiphany earlier today and thought I might share it.
RWBY feels palpably different after Volume Three. Like, we all felt it, right? The tone of the characters’ interactions are so different, not just because of character development, but because of something else, even greater, perhaps to do with the cast themselves; I just couldn’t put my finger on it.
Then a thought occurred to me:
How many scenes past Volume Three passed the Bechdel Test?
It got me thinking: perhaps what contributed to such a difference in feel was the fact that RWBY became a lot more masculine, a lot less shoujo. I decided to put my Bechdel Test theory to the test.
Before I reveal the results, let’s run over the rules of the Bechdel Test:
Named after cartoonist Alison Bechdel, the Bechdel Test is a measure of the representation of women in media. For a portion of media (say, an episode, a scene, a movie) to pass the test, three criteria must be met:
1) Two or more women must be having a conversation. They must both have names and dialogue in the conversation. No men can be participating. 2) The conversation must be substantial (so, “You ready?” “Let’s do this!” doesn’t count. Note that this is a rule I am manipulating a bit, since anime/action-type dialogue tends to have more throwaway interactions like that than average). 3) The conversation cannot be about a man.
This is not a way to test the quality or even the “female empowerment points” of a piece of media, but it is insightful. For our purposes, I wondered: which half of RWBY contains more Bechdel-passing conversations? I will not be counting trailers or Character Shorts.
CONVERSATIONS THAT PASS IN 1x01 THROUGH 1x08: - 1x01, Yang and Ruby about Ruby getting into Beacon - 1x02, Yang and Ruby about weapons - 1x02, Weiss and Ruby (and then Blake) about Dust - 1x03, Ruby and Yang (and then Weiss) about Weiss - 1x03, Yang and Ruby about making friends - 1x03, Blake and Ruby (with some Weiss and Yang) about being a Huntress - 1x04, Yang and Ruby about making friends - 1x04, Weiss and Pyrrha about teams - 1x05, Weiss and Ruby about being partners - 1x06, Weiss and Ruby about each other - 1x07, Weiss and Ruby about being lost - 1x08, Weiss and Ruby about the Nevermore
And that’s just the first half of Volume One! That’s 12 conversations in 8 episodes. Now, for the rest:
CONVERSATIONS THAT PASS IN VOLUMES 4 AND 5: - Literally fucking none in Volume Four, lmao, but some near misses like 4x08 (Blake and Kali about Ghira and Sun) or 4x03 (Salem and Cinder about Ozpin). - 5x01, Blake and Ilia about taking back the White Fang (but starts about the Albains!) - 5x02, Salem and Cinder about the usefulness of others - 5x03, Weiss and Vernal about Winter - 5x04, Yang and Raven (and then Weiss) about Ruby (but mentioning Ozpin!) - 5x08, Yang, Weiss and Ruby about Blake - 5x08, Yang and Weiss about Blake - 5x08, Blake and Ilia about Ilia (but mentions of Adam) - 5x10, Blake and Ilia about having a choice - 5x11, Emerald and Ruby about Cinder - 5x12, Cinder and Vernal (and Raven) about being a Maiden - 5x14, Yang and Raven about Raven - 5x14, Ruby and Blake (and then Yang) about reuniting
Volumes 4-6, so far, contain the same amount of qualifying conversations in 26 episodes (12) as Volume One accomplishes in 8.
To keep this relatively brief, I belief that is enough evidence to at least legitimize and illustrate my point. So what conclusions can be drawn from this?
One that certainly can’t is that “RWBY is a bad show,” because that’s a) not what I’m arguing and b) certainly not what the Bechdel test is about. One conclusion that can, however, is that the relative lack of female/female interaction post Volume Three may contribute to the change in tone felt in this newer section.
Many things could have caused this. Number one, Monty designed the show to follow shoujo tropes and character dynamics, as he was trying to emulate a specific feel for the pseudo-anime genre in which it fits. While we have no doubt Miles and Kerry have carried the show according to how they had established it together, the lack of Monty influence may have nudged the writing away from a female-appealing shoujo style, thereby giving less importance to including female/female interaction.
Other factors include the events of Volume Three. Volumes 1-3 of RWBY were actually surprisingly desolate for male cosplayers, as the only prominent boys of the main cast’s age were Sun, Neptune, Jaune and Ren. However, Volume Three causes a bit of a shakeup, as main characters left the cast, and many more were added as a result. In Volume Three, a few major female roles like Pyrrha, Penny, and Glynda were removed from the show. The only major male speaking roles that were removed were Roman and Neptune, who already had very little participation in Volume Three. Thus, there is some imbalance in how many continued speaking roles were available to women in 4-6.
However, this was not remotely balanced out by introductions. In 4-6, the named and recurring (featuring prominently in one arc or more) female characters introduced are Salem, Kali, Ilia, Jinn, Maria, Cordovin, Vernal, and an argument could be made for Raven, making a total of 8. On the male side of things, however, we introduce (being named and recurring) Hazel, Tyrian, Watts, Jacques, Whitley, Klein, the Albains, Ghira, Lionheart, Oscar, and an argument could be made for Qrow, Taiyang, and Adam, as they, too, had limited or non-recurring roles pre-Volume 4. That makes 14 new men, generally of more substantial contribution than that of the women. In Volume Four, Yang and Weiss are isolated as the only women in their male-dominated settings, Blake never has a conversation with the only other woman in her setting (Kali), and Ruby and Nora scarcely interact. As a result, the number of opportunities for a) women to have lines and b) for them to be to each other and c) to not be about the other men in their environment decreases dramatically.
Now, am I saying RWBY is “worse” because of this? Absolutely not. The spotlight remains on the women, but they do become fewer and further in between. Furthermore, a larger main cast means less opportunities for one-on-one interactions that somehow don’t involve a man, so the outcome is somewhat inevitable from a writing perspective. However, I feel it is important to highlight the connection between a show’s cast and a show’s tone, making specific mention of the possible effects a large upset to the previous status quo can have on the feel of a show.
That’s all I got for now. I think it’s an interesting correlation, but does that necessarily mean it’s direct causation? Obviously not. But recognizing that gender matters to the tone of a show, and that contrasts such as these can greatly affect said tone, is a valuable informant of our perception of the show that does not deserve to be overlooked.

It’s still Summer
okay so we don’t have like, a very clear timeline on how much time has passed in-show; though we do get a lot of details that we can make a rough estimate
unfortunately sometimes a lot of the wrong assumptions are made - like thinking it’s been a year since the Fall of Beacon, that Ruby would be 17 now, or that it’s now Winter-time
i’m gonna just lay out what the show gives us for where the show currently is in it’s timeline, but to tl;dr it if you don’t want this whole infodump, it’s been about a year and some change since the beginning of volume 2, and Fall hasn’t set in yet
alright so i should probably start off by providing evidence of the time of year
now a lot of people  have assumed it’s been a year since the Fall of Beacon, presumably because the latter took place in the Fall and volume 5 ended on the night before the Fall Semester would have started (i’ll get into why that’s not a solid connection in a little bit) but i can counter that with two screenshots, both involving Patch
here’s Patch during volume 3, in Fall, 3x01:
Tumblr media
the leaves have turned/are turning, the grass is brown, it’s very clearly Autumnal
here’s Patch at the end of volume 5, 5x14:
Tumblr media
leaves are green, grass is fresh and green - warm tones, it’s Summer
and the reason for this is that volume 5 ends the day before the Fall Semester would’ve started
and we know from volume 1 that a semester lasts a few months, as the entirety of the first volume after episode 1 takes place within that first semester (with Ruby’s fight with Torchwick happening not long before), from 1x15:
Tumblr media
and we know from volume 2 that the Vytal Tournament takes place during the second semester, and so Fall must start during that Semester (as Ruby comments to Winter that it is Fall during volume 3), as Ruby says in 2x01:
“Look guys, it's been a good two weeks and between more exchange students arriving and the tournament at the end of the year, our second semester is going to be great! But, classes start back up tomorrow!”
‘the end of the year’ is a bit of an ambiguous comment, though this excerpt from After the Fall implies a third semester that presumably happens after a Winter/New Year’s break
Tumblr media
and we also know from a few details that the school semesters happen at roughly the same time
within the show itself, Cinder’s absence after 1x01, only showing up with Mercury and Emerald in tow in 1x16, can be inferred to be because they (along with Neo) were posing as students at Haven to get entrance to the tournament (and presumably this is when Lionheart defected to Salem’s orders), and other exchange students (like Sun) began arriving around the same time, meaning a semester had been going on
another instance comes from After the Fall, where during her own initiation, Velvet wonders if her buddy Vega Bleu from Pharos Academy would be going through initiation at the same time
Tumblr media
suggesting the years start at roughly the same time
so this establishes that volume 5 ends roughly a year after volume 2 starts, a year after the Best Day Ever
so that establishes where we were at the end of volume 5, summertime, a year after volume 2 started
volume 6 picks up two weeks after that and ends within a week (6x01 to partway through 6x06 all happen on the same day, the rest of 6x06 and 6x07 happen the day after that, 6x08 - 6x09 the third day, and 6x10 - 6x13 presumably a day or two after), which i want to say would put it between a year after the investigation into the White Fang’s activities in Vale (2x03 - 2x04) and the Vytal dance (2x05 - 2x07)
also just for point of reference, this doesn’t really add much to anything except establishing the time of year, Grimm Eclipse happens between volumes 2 and 3 and the areas outside Forever Fall clearly show it’s still Summer
this also means that Ruby’s still 16 - we know from volume 3 when Ciel gives her profile on Ruby in 3x05 that Ruby was still 15 at the time, meaning the tournament was happening before October 31st, which is officially her birthday following this bit of Word of God from Miles after the Chibi episode about it:
Tumblr media
and because it hasn’t been a year since the tournament, Ruby’s still 16 (and no, we don’t have official word on her being 17 and the timeline of the show - the primary canon, of which everything else, secondary canon and Word of God, is supplemental - doesn’t match up to it)
so then there’s the next point of confusion i see people, that it’s now Winter, and as we’ve established, it’s not, and the show isn’t confusing it’s own timeline and suggesting it is
we see more snow in volume 6 because RWBY and the others are in the more northerly part of the Anima continent
Tumblr media
which the map shows to be fairly snowy
the show reinforces this as when we cut to Cinder during the volume (and remember that her timeline is established to be taking first a month after the battle of Haven - not the two weeks after which is RWBY’s time frame - and then an additional week while waiting for the info from Little Miss Malachite), it’s clearly not Winter, most notably when we see her and Neo in 6x13:
Tumblr media
it’s dark but y’know, lush greenery - very clearly not Winter
so there we have it, it’s still Summer, we’re coming up on the anniversary of the Fall of Beacon and Ruby’s birthday within the next few in-universe months of the show
