Obscure Marvel fancast of the day: Deborah Ayorinde as Krystalin aka Ruth Kirsten Porter-Ogada aka Krys Porter! Krystalin is from the “X-Men 2099″ alternate future, and is one of the titular X-Men of this timeline. Her mutant power is to create crystals from the air and shape them as she pleases, such as into weapons, shields, or a razor-sharp spray. Krystalin’s mother’s name is unknown, though presumably her last name was Porter. Her mother was a Thorite, that is, a member of the Church of Thor, a religion or cult in this timeline. Her father was Minister Andre Daniel Ogada of the New Wakandan Sons of the Panther movement, and she had a brother, Zakarii “Zak” Ogada. Her mother was a pacifist, while her father preached “Peace Through Strength”. He used the imagery and traditions of Wakanda to create the Soldiers of the Panther and bring peace and order to Oakland, rescuing them from the violence of the 2070s and working for the spiritual and economic reclamation of the city. Her father never approved of her mother’s faith or spiritual searchings, while her mother never accepted the “appropriation” of Wakandan tradition for his “street soldiers”. Due to this conflict, Krys’s left when Krys was young, taking the young Krys with her. Her mother died at some point during Krys’s youth, and Krys came to join the X-Men later, taking the codename Krystalin and going by Krys Porter as her civilian name. She returned home as an adult for her father’s funeral. Her brother and her continued their parents feud to a lesser degree, as Zak felt her allegiance should be to the Panthers, while Krys felt it should be to her fellow mutants. Krystalin seemed to be a middle ground between her parent’s philosophies, being willing to fight but always preferring to take the peaceful, more compassionate route. She had a good heart, and was a very reliable, trustworthy teammate, but also often unsure of herself. She typically preferred to provide support to her team, rather than charging in the lead herself, and was more a follower than a leader. However, she still had a mind of her own, and an extremely strong conscience. She’s probably my favorite of the X-Men 2099 team.
