The first time I heard about the vegan diet I thought it was too extreme! I understood about the no meat part, but no milk or honey was just brutal... Then some of my first vegan meals around Toronto were quite disappointing, if not disgusting. I believe whatever diet it is you are pursuing, you can still enjoy amazing dishes full of flavours. If your stomach is not happy with what you eat (taste wise) then it won't absorb the nutrients, thus it is not healthy. For that reason I've set up a quest to find a great vegan meal, and finally I think I've found it!!! - @rustleandstill serves up some crazy vegan balls made up of multiple beans and mushroom. The texture was amazing and the sauce was really well done. I want people to come and try it to see what vegan can taste like. It's not just chewing on kale for the rest of your life and calling it healthy. I want us to enjoy real foods, foods without labels, and count less calories. Just a moment to myself 🍵. . ********* . #Friyay means the weekend is almost here. For me, it also means the end of my third week at work. It's been just enough time for me to feel like I'm getting the hang of things and, at the same time, realize how much I have left to learn. Where did the week go? How is it #Friday already? How will I manage to get everything done today? These are the thoughts that fill my mind during my morning commute. So, I'm taking some time to just be. Be happy. Be proud. Be content. Be reminded that I moved back home after being away for 3 years and was able to obtain a paid internship 3 months into my job search. I am lucky when many are not. Vietnamese Summer Slaw - @rustleandstill - As you know I have a love for food (shut up you hype follower, don't "me too" me). When I was young I was super picky with what I ate, but at the same time amazingly weird about what I ate. I loved loved loved mushy rice (cơm nhão) and would never ever touch leftovers. I would be on a rampage if Mom mixed the leftover meats in with the freshly stir fried veggies. I would not touch a single onion (scallion or green onion was okay), and would eat boiled pork belly with soy sauce and rice for days!!! I wasn't fond of seafoods (except SOFT SHELL CRABS 😍) and was not that into those expensive ingredients, like bird's nest or dried fish's galbladder... - All that changed as I grew up. I started to learn how to eat onions, how to appreciate leftovers (thanks York University), and how to be creative with my cooking. A lot of my childhood fave still make the liat today, like the simple boiled pork belly, but I've added in spicy fermented shrimp with papaya ("tôm chua"). I still love eating congee made with fresh chicken broth and have a side of cabbage salad with the shreded chicken on top.This is quite common in Southern Vietnam. We would take the broth from boiling the meat to make congee, and use the meat to mix up sth or keep it as is on the side. The one thing I really love about that chicken salad is that it is so flavourful, sweet, sour, tangy, and salty at the same time (the dressing is made from fish sauce and a bunch of other things to dilute it) and I'm a sucker for sweet and sour stuff. - If you ever wonder how that cabbage salad/slaw tastes like, check out @rustleandstill. They offer a similar item, but elevated and modernized to cater to even "veganers". And honestly it is hard to make meatless dishes attractive, but they did it, with lots of herbs and multiple kinds of mint (yes multiple)!
