SOMMERFJAS with Teo Tomczuk
By Tayiba Haji
3 July 2024 at 15:47
Teo Tomczuk sits down with SOMMERFJAS 😎 🎵 ☀️
-
(y’all this one needed a lot of cultural context to understand properly so you can see my personal explanations/rambling below in red lol)
“Fellesferien” has officially started (this is also known as general staff vacation in English, a practice where all employees at a workplace have time off at the same time, and in Nordic countries this typically takes place during warmer months like August). And while some people turn their sights towards the South (warmer/more southern countries in Europe), others are settling in well at their Norwegian cabins.
The next man out for our Summer column is Teo Tomczuk (born in 2006).
You may know him as Mathias from the NRK series “Rykter”, but in his spare time Teo is also very involved in music.
[730.no](http://730.no) had a chat with the Bergen native about his summer favorites. As well as what we can expect from the highly anticipated third season of “Rykter”.
Tumblr media
Hi Teo! Do you have any exciting plans for the summer?
“I am going to play some concerts in Poland, and travel around Poland a bit. And I am going on vacation to Croatia with my best friend! It's a bit funny because all the “russegruppene” in all of Norway are going there exactly when we are going there."
(Russegruppene, or Russ groups, describe groups of students in their final semester of high school that celebrate the tradition of Russefeiring, or russ for short. This happens over a period of several weeks leading up to summer, and it is basically a continuous party commonly linked to drunkenness & public disturbances. It's also a tradition for the students to wear special overalls for the event, usually red or blue. Many groups choose to rent or buy party buses to drive around during this time. This tradition is unique to Norway and is an interesting read for those unfamiliar with it!)
Lovely! What kind of style do you go for in the summer then?
“I wear a lot of black clothes even though it's summer.”
Tumblr media
What does the perfect summer day look like for you?
“A cabin trip combined with a fishing trip! And making music in the evening.
What movie/series did you last watch? And what roll of the dice do you give it?
“I saw The Fall Guy in the movie theater, it was very well made. The entire production. Dice roll 6!” (The roll of the dice is a Norwegian rating system for media, with 1 being the worst and 6 being the best)
Speaking of cool productions: Has the third season of “Rykter” been recorded?
“The third and fourth seasons have actually been recorded!”
Wow, so cool! What can we expect from the new season?
“You can expect a lot of love, broken hearts. Many try lots of new things and find out who they are. Mostly they get to know themselves. There will be a lot of identity stuff!”
Do you have any tips on what someone could do on a rainy day?
“I live in Bergen, so I'm used to that. The fish bite more when it rains. And make music of course.”
Tumblr media
Do you have a favorite restaurant that you just have to visit in the summer?
“Mammas Kjøkken!” (Mom’s Kitchen)
How are you at parties?
“I'm the one who tries to put on 70s rock, haha! I’m really not the biggest party type then.”
What can we expect from you on the music front?
“I try to find my own sound. I developed a new style of pop rock that I think people can vibe with. There will be more international music, a bit of everything.”
Tumblr media
What is this summer's vorspiel (pre-game) anthem?
"Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin”
What is this summer's nachspiel (afterparty) anthem?
"The End - The Doors”
(Vorspiel and nachspiel are German words that are used in Scandinavian countries to mean pre and after party)
What song is best to dance to?
“Lonely Boy by The Black Keys.”
Tumblr media
What is your darkest party memory?
“I broke a tooth once haha!”
Huh?
“Yeah, it was crazy. I was going to open a bottle. Fortunately, it went fine in the end.”
Luckily! Do you have any good tips for the day after a party?
“In Poland we have a soup that grandmas and moms have often made over the years. It's damn good the next day. And just drink lots of water before and after.”
Tumblr media
What do you spend the most money on in the summer?
“Probably beer!”
Who would you most like to meet this summer, and why?
“The best thing would be to meet my role models.”
And who are they?
“Many of them have died, but of the ones who are alive: Alex Turner and Ozzy Osbourne.”
(ALEX TURNER MENTION !!!)
Have you ever had a summer fling? Or is there anyone who counts as one this year?
“Not this year, but I've had ones in the past. It's best during the summer, that’s really when it’s the nicest.”
Can you send us some random photos from your camera roll this summer?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you so much and have a happy summer, Teo!
“Likewise!”

The Norwegian Royal House has released a new photograph of Prince Magnus to announce that he will not be participating in May 17th celebrations with the family as he is graduating secondary school and will be partaking in Russefeiring with his friends | May 16, 2024

High school graduation traditions say a lot about the society that surrounds them.
You have the American prom, in which a popularity contest is held to declare the prom queen and king in a public display of ultimate model heterosexuality.
You have the Japanese sakura blossoms, a symbol of fleeting beauty and rebirth as their youth makes way for the grinding wheels of the workforce.
And then there's the Norwegian russefeiring, where teens get absolutely wasted (social drinking culture) and drive around in buses. (public transport)

Odd Tracks: Stamp On the Ground - ItaloBrothers
For those who were around 2009 internet may remember this animation,
This was I and along with others' first exposure to Stamp on the Ground by ItaloBrothers. I would watch this animation so much as a high schooler. This is so well done and even now it has aged fantastically. I know it had an impact on the online animation sphere based on the fact there is a brony analysis community version and Youtuber version of this video (which those two have NOT aged well for a lot of reasons). Hell even I want to make a variant of this video with my own ocs. The flash animation was released on September 8th, 2009 on both Deviantart and Newgrounds. In 2024 it will be the 16th anniversary of the video in question.
Now some might be wondering "Well is there anything else to this song besides it's internet presence?" The answer is yes. The song itself was released in September of 2009 which in 2010 was selected as the official song for the Norwegian Russefeiring event. This then lead the song to be re-released in Scandinavia which lead it to be a huge success. It was in the Top 20 in both Norway and Denmark. It also got chart success in Sweden while getting into the dance charts in Switzerland and Austria. The song became certified gold for 15,000 sold units in Denmark. I knew this song had to have been big in Europe since it is Eurodance but I always assumed it was big in Italy because well...ItaloBrothers...Italo dance. That sort of deal but them being popular in Eastern Europe is pretty cool. I need to ask some of my Eastern European friends if they ever heard the song or not.
After the success of Stamp on the Ground the album Stamp! was released in December of 2010. This contained all to this point released singles and five new tracks. However the album did get into some legal issue. The track, Upside Down, allegedly was a copy of the Russian singer Reda's song "Ja budu s Taboj". Reda's label, DaTa Music, would take proceedings against future release of the track. Though as I am reading all of this the end of this lawsuit is currently unknown. Which damn okay.
It is kind of sad this song didn't get a lot of popularity in the states but at least it got some mild traction through online communities here because of the flash animation above. Now yes, an official music video for the song was released on June 14th, 2009 onto youtube. While I do like the music video, especially dancing on the water, it is just not as iconic as the flash animation. Which I think tells me that even once people start to forget more about this band as time goes on, at least the animation can keep the song's spirit alive.

Hiiii, I'm the one that asked about the viking thing hahaha. I'm still sorry about that, but I have a few more questions so please bear with me. Okay, first question; I've heard that the Scandinavian languages are somewhat similar, is that true? Sure, I could google it but it's always more interesting to get an answer from someone that actually knows. And second one!! Well, it's more of an observation/admiration/curious question. I remember watching the Norwegian show "Skam" (sorry if I misspelled it) and I was so fascinated with this celebration you have when you finish what I guess is upper secondary? A-levels/high school or whatever you wanna call it? Do you guys really party for a month?
Hi! Haha, don't be sorry. I know it was a joke. Okay, I'll try and give you a good answer
Yes, they are similar. A Swedish person can talk to me in Swedish, and I'll answer in Norwegian because we understand each other. I can understand most Danish, but some Danes think we are Swedish so they switch to English hahaha. Some understand it better than others, but I have no issues talking to both Danish (Danish can however be a bit more tricky) and Swedish people.
Ah, Skam. I miss Skam. Thanks for reminding me! And yes, it's called "russetid" and we celebrate from mid-late April to the 17. May. And yes, we do party a lot during that month (it's exhausting haha). It's not mandatory though. In Oslo they do things bigger than where I come from usually, and they'll have these big buses (as you might remember from the show) and they spend so much money. Me and my friends didn't have a bus because it wasn't really common where I come from at that time, so we just had a smaller van. It's actually so much fun! I found the pants I wore (boiler suits are more common now) the other day, and a disgusting fact about this tradition: you're not allowed to wash them, or else you'll have to cut off one of the legs, haha.
Thanks for these questions! It was actually really fun to answer them. I could write a whole lot more about russefeiring (I think there's a wiki article on it if you want to know), but if you have more questions I'd love to answer them.

Sea draugen
Tumblr media
Most likely the Draugen remained undamaged, as later on Alvin and the Outcasts leave Berk to go home. A monstrous sea creature destroys some of the smaller boats. Alvin and some crew members disembark on smaller ships (faerings or dingies) that were most likely carried by the Draugen and others to reach land once they arrive to invade Berk. Alvin and Savage ride the Draugen on the chaotic seas, despite the crew's misgivings. The design was for apparel and a vehicle wrap for the russefeiring. The Draugen is one ship in a fleet of ships from the Outcast Tribe.Īlvin the Treacherous plans to take advantage of the wild seas around Berk, expecting Stoick to recall the Hooligan patrol ships for their own safety. I had fun doing this illustration of this Norwegian Sea Monster for a Russ Logo. This works very much like a Runecraft talisman, telling the player in which direction to travel to find the Draugen. It can only be found by using a Hunters' talisman given by Sigli. Although not analytical significant, the slightly higher pour point in Draugen 2018 may cause the oil to solidify faster on the sea surface compared to. The mast head is adorned with the skull of an Unknown Dragon Species. The Draugen is a monster encountered during The Fremennik Trials quest that must be defeated in order to gain council member Sigli 's vote. The sail has a horned helmet silhouette on it. Beyond a high level of technical performance, the system also: Produces evidentiary quality documentation of illegal activity. It can operate from manned or unmanned aerial surveillance platform, and is capable of wide-area, day-night operations. Like most Longships, the Draugen has a single mast with a large square sail. Sea Dragon (developed by TSC) is a modular maritime surveillance system and service. You traverse the Norwegian island of Graavik in first-person perspective and. Explore a forgotten coastal village in your search for your missing sister, accompanied by your independent and enigmatic young ward. Draugen is an adventure game probably best characterised as a walking simulator. It is adorned with spiky round shields along its sides. Draugen is a single-player, first-person Fjord Noir mystery set in 1920s Norway. Although there was some interest at both NASA and Todd. The project was led by Robert Truax while working at Aerojet, one of a number of designs he created that were to be launched by floating the rocket in the ocean. The Draugen is described as a Viking Longship, therefore is clinker-built with wood, and appears to have only one deck. A draugr, draug or draugur, or dreygur, or draugen, also known as aptrganga is an undead. The Sea Dragon was a 1962 conceptualized design study for a two-stage sea-launched orbital super heavy-lift launch vehicle. Large amount of wind data collected on offshore structures, such as platforms, masts and ships in the North Sea, often suffers from poor availability and.

Fjor wears the ugly Gucci tracksuit and the red overalls with his name on them because he’s a senior in high school and he’s russefeiring until May 17th. If you don’t know what that is look it up. If I have to keep learning extremely cursed things about Norway then so do you.
