A Prayer for the Gritty Grateful

Thanksgiving can be a useful way to focus--to force yourself to explore what truly brings you gratitude in a given year. And this has been a crazy tough year.

So I'm grateful that some of the most important art appears in the darkest of times. And that the recent challenges we’ve faced--maybe the greatest of our age--proved no exception.

I have to imagine that without 2018, there might have been no Gritty. And then what? What? Truly: what absent grace? What shredded void! Without Gritty, no hope reawakened for 2020. To miss that feeling! Gritty, O Gritty. You, you graceless dark angel of homicidally tinged joy. Ubiquitous presence with unfettered eye and monstrous lurch. Saint of the Resistance. Icon of the empathically starved. Terror of small children in Wells Fargo Center nosebleeds. You, Gritty, you!

Our victory's divine but blasphemous fuel! Ancient reptilian enemy of autocracy by nature of its very haircut! Genesis of liberation sprung forth in shocking dissonance, a mitosis from our nation's earliest cradle and the work product of Flyland Designs, Incorporated in the capital R, capital A, Real American heartland hamlet of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. What form! What ageless triumph! So achingly obscene a muppet in inspiration but oppressively chaste a CPR dummy in execution. Such delight! Cryptic, coy and shame pursues choral ecstasy.

Noise! Searing! Fur Felt Tongue!! From this day forth, you have earned your place; ad infinitum. Companion to fractured hearts. Nestled. A barely perceived longing specter of psychosis. But there. There. There. Perfect in its reflection of our willfully unprocessed yesterday. From this day. Till the end: We are all, and always shall be, Gritty Strong. Hello! I don't know if I can ask but which brushes do you use for your art and manga panels coloring? They are so soft I really love them!

Thanks! For inking I mainly use the g-pen that comes with CSP. These are the brushes I use most in coloring. I confess I’m a bit of a brush junkie lol 😅. You can purchase the Flyland sets here if you like. https://www.flylanddesigns.com/custom-manga-studio-5-clip-studio-paint-brushes/

With the world being what it is and me being stuck unable to work thanks to work permit delays, I’ve had some time to practice my art. Clip Studio is a damn godsend for the art I like to do. Definitely need to get better at coloring though! @legendofmitsuki Our two characters, doing what they do best ;) I also have to give a shoutout to @flyland-designs. Finding Brian Allen’s fantastic tutorials and artstyle that ticks all my ‘I love to draw like this’ boxes (amazing detailed, bold line art, simple but vivid coloring) really helped me solidify what I want my own art style to be. So thank you ;)

What brushes do you use in clip studio paint ??

All sorts, at this point I don’t really have “mains” anymore.  I’ve also switched over to Photoshop for most of my painting work, but I still prefer CSP for stuff like inking and pencil sketches.  Generally you can’t go wrong with brushes by Frenden or Flyland Designs, those are still ones I always come back to.
