Tumblr media
(Hee~ @cactobutt made this~ From Right to Left! Felix, Kai, Atara(hasn't appeared in the story yet), and Lily. <3)
Hello! Hi! Welcome to Chapter two! Listen! I need to share a few things with you guys!
@runaway-dream-au (I love this so much, and it was part of my inspiration for "Living the Dream"! Check out their blog!)
@emeraldhazeidentity (You guys love a good Dream x reader story? Their story, "Solace" is amazing! Another amazing author who gave me inspiration to write a Dream x reader story!)
Also, @bored-animator here is Chapter two! :)
This is a little longer than the first chapter; I will have a shorter version of what was talked about in this chapter. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets boring.
This is a long chapter. We see a little bit of Dream's depression, they talk about the young lady who is stuck in a coma. Also! Blue and Ink find out that Dream is missing!
As for Nightmare? Nothing out of the ordinary. He's not worried.
Or is he?
Characters and their Creators: Killer Sans: Rahafwabas Dust Sans: Ask-Dusttale Horror Sans: Sour-Apple-Studios Nightmare Sans: Jokublog XTale Sans(Cross): Jael Peñaloza/Jakei

((I stayed up till 5am finishing this chapter, so if there are mistakes, please forgive me. D: ))
!! Another thing! Down in the End Notes, I'll have a short description of most of the chapter there. In case it's boring, which... I hope it's not. <.<
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Celestial Market didn’t see many customers today. The heavy rain poured down on the city, the sound of thunder and flashes of lightning kept people away for most of the morning and early noon. There wasn’t a lot to do, Dream and Kai had already stocked most of the shelves after the latest shipment. Maria was finishing up her paperwork in her office. Lily and Kai had already left for their other jobs, leaving Dream and Maria to tend the shop. The radio played softly in the background, set on a station that played a mixture of oldies and today’s favorites. Dream didn’t recognize them, but that didn’t stop Dream from enjoying most of the songs.
Maria stepped out of her office and glanced around the small shop and found there to be no customers. She glanced down at her wrist watch and sighed softly; there was no point in staying open much longer. She knew the rain alone would keep anyone from stopping by, so she called it. “I think we’ll close up early today, Dream.” She called out to him while walking towards the door to lock it and flipped the open sign around so it read ‘closed’.  She wandered back in to begin shutting everything down and counting the money. While she tended to the register, Dream began working on cleaning up the place, sweeping and mopping and taking out the trash.
He finished up his chores before grabbing his jacket and slipping it over his shoulders, his hood coming up to cover his head. He waited patiently for Maria to finish her chores, she switched off the lights and grabbed her keys; her own jacket was pulled on over herself as she met Dream by the exit. She made sure the door was locked after they stepped out, Dream waiting to make sure she would be safe, before he would leave for home.
Maria sighed gently, relieved the work day ended a bit earlier than usual. She turned and smiled at Dream. “Would you like to join me for some coffee?” Dream looked at her in surprise, he wasn’t expecting this, but he wouldn’t mind.  “I would love to. I don’t have anything better to do.” He told her truthfully. “Wonderful!” She led him to her car, parked on the other side of the street. Dream felt bad for climbing into the vehicle while soaking wet, but it couldn’t be helped. Maria started the car and quickly turned the heat on so they wouldn’t start to freeze. “It’s not too far, and I can drop you off at your apartment after, if you’d like.” She told him as she pulled out onto the street and started for the coffee shop. “That…” He trailed off, not wanting to be a bother, but knew she wouldn’t have offered if it was a bother.
He knew this because it’s already happened. She had offered to drive him home after a rather exhausting day at work and she had noticed how tired he was. He had declined at first, but she insisted.
“I wouldn’t want to be a bother, I know you’re just as tired-”
“Dream, I wouldn’t have offered it to you if it was a problem.” She told him with a smile. “Between the two of us, you live further away from the shop than I do.”
Dream knew he wasn’t going to win and accepted her offer with a smile.
“That would be nice, actually.” He replied honestly.  “Thank you.” Maria smiled victoriously, glad that Dream was accepting her help without arguing. The drive was silent, aside from the soft music that played on Maria’s car radio. Much like the music in the shop, but it was mostly oldies. Dream smiled, as he peered out his side of the window, watching monsters, humans, and hybrids scatter into shops, or into their vehicles (or the buses) to escape the rain. Many were already leaving work to head home, or to meet up at a popular restaurant for an early dinner.
A peaceful smile stretched over his mouth as he silently watched the world pass by, happily watching the citizens go about their late afternoon. Once again, Dream wished he had found this AU sooner, the idea of sharing such a lovely experience with his friends warmed his soul. That smile fell just a bit and his soul began to ache from missing his friends. Blue would have loved meeting everyone, and Ink would have loved to paint the beauty this city has to offer. He thought to himself. Nightmare would have appreciated the kindness these folks shared. Nightmare. If Dream had succeeded in saving his brother, this AU would have been a perfect place for him as well. They could finally relax and not worry about any more trouble.
He could imagine his brother, sweet little Nighty, sitting under one of the many trees in the park; a book in his lap with his circlet tipped askew as he napped. No one would come up to mess with him, only to wake him up to offer their company. Maybe request to grab a meal with them.
Yes, Nighty would have liked it here. As much as I wish to find Nightmare, it would only lead to the downfall of this AU. I’m sure of it. Dream thought sadly, his smile finally falling as he fought the tears that wanted to escape his sockets. He believed Nightmare was still there, underneath all of that corruption. But, he didn’t believe in himself to pull him out. Not anymore. As much as Dream wished he could share this experience with his brother, with his friends, he decided that for once… For once, he’ll be selfish and keep this AU to himself.
Immediately after thinking that, Dream deflated in guilt; this wasn’t like him. Being greedy and keeping something so wonderful secretive from his friends. But, he chose to leave his old life behind, which in turn, he had to let go of those he called his friends. It was the right thing to do.
Wasn’t it?
“We’re here.” Maria’s soft voice shook Dream from his gloomy thoughts. He raised his watery gaze to look before them; it was a cozy looking cafe filled with customers who seeked shelter from the rain. He was surprised he hadn’t noticed this cafe before; he always wandered the city when he had the time. There was just so much that caught his attention, this shop was easily missed, he determined. He blinked away the unshed tears before turning his gaze to his driver who smiled sympathetically. Her eyes softened and her smile widened just a little when she saw his attention was on her. He wondered if she caught his saddened expression or maybe it was the tears?
“Ready to go inside?” Her voice was soft, filled with kindness. He knew she would let him sit out here just a bit longer if it meant to gather himself from his heavy thoughts. Dream felt a warmth spread through him, the care and kindness that exuded from her soul filled him with the strength to get past his little bout of depression.
“I am ready.” Dream said just as softly, his smile perked as he was filled with the positive energy that she unknowingly fed him. He made the first move, flipping his hood over his head and opening the car door before stepping out into the rain. Maria followed after, once their doors were shut, she pressed the lock button on her key fob as they hurried to the cafe’s entrance.
The coffee shop was busy. It was here where Dream had a taste of bitter negativity. A few customers were waiting for their order a little longer than they would have liked, and had cut in front of a customer who was in the middle of ordering. They asked where their order was; “We’ve been waiting for fifteen minutes!” The staff apologized to them and explained that they were short staffed today. “We will have your order out to you in a few minutes. I’m sorry for the inconvenience.”
Dream had expected the customers to raise more of a fuss. Maybe it was because their orders had come almost immediately after the employee explained their hindrance. Or maybe the customers were willing to be more patient. Dream wouldn’t know, as he felt their stress ease slowly and thanked the employees before leaving.
Dream watched them leave, hurrying to their vehicle and climbing inside before they were soaked to the bone. They must have been running late for something, Dream decided. He was relieved that the negativity didn’t last long, it had tasted bitter and stung his soul. He didn’t miss that feeling.
“It’s no surprise that they’re busy this evening. The storm is supposed to continue on for at least another hour or so.” Maria said; she had also witnessed the small disruption, watching the customers leave before turning her attention to her friend. She studied his creased expression of concern fade into a more peaceful look. She watched his shoulders slack and heard his soft exhale of relief.  Once he was relaxed, he turned his attention to her.  “I imagine everyone will want to find comfort in a warm beverage during the storm. The staff looks exhausted.” Dream noted, having stolen another glance towards the cashier as they priced the orders, accepted the payments and sent the order to the baristas. Maria nodded, agreeing with Dream. “That they do.” She let the silence between them linger for a moment before asking, “Have you found anything you’d like to try?”
Oh, Dream hadn’t thought to look at the menu yet. He was busy feeling the different emotions that charged the shop. He was busy soaking in the positivity, especially after the small fuss from earlier. His eye lights caught sight of the chalkboard above the counter and squinted to read some of the small writing. Nothing snagged his attention, until he found a favorable sounding beverage. It wasn’t coffee, Dream wasn’t in the mood for that. Instead he resolved on a fruity tea; he voiced his choice to Maria who nodded.  Once it was their turn, Maria placed their order, paid (with a tip) for the drinks before guiding Dream to an empty booth.
“So,” Maria started once they sat down across from each other. Dream’s wandering gaze shifted to look at her curious one. “May I be a little bold?” Dream smiled and nodded; “Of course.” He wondered what she had on her mind this time. After starting his job at her shop, they have been getting to know each other fairly quickly-  “Are you an empath, Dream?”
His smile fell first before his eyes widened in surprise. Many thoughts filtered through his mind and he started to panic a little- did she figure out he wasn’t a monster at all? Did she have an inkling that he was more of a god?  He didn’t realize he was stumbling over his words to reply to her question, “H..How?”
Maria offered a patient smile;  “You don’t have to answer if it makes you uncomfortable. But, I just notice how you react to certain situations involving strong emotions. You deflate when someone isn’t feeling well, or is sad or upset. But, when someone is happy, you glow. Your smile is brilliant and very contagious. I had just wondered…”
Oh. He… He didn’t know he had reacted in such ways. In the back of his mind, he remembered someone had mentioned the same thing. Was it Blue? Ah, he couldn’t remember, it had been so long ago.
He hadn’t realized he was quietly staring at Maria in surprise when an employee walked over to deliver their drinks; they had come quicker than Dream had expected due to how busy it was. He blinked a few times as his warm disposable cup was placed in front of him, before he glanced up and offered a smile and a soft “thank you”.
The beverage was still hot, but that didn’t stop Dream from taking a sip. It was delicious, the fruit was potent on his magic as it soaked into it. He visibly relaxed, letting his stress flow from his bones. Maria remained quiet, patient as she too enjoyed her warm coffee. She had ordered a caramel, macchiato mocha; he could smell it from where he sat.  He smiled as he felt the delight from Maria as she enjoyed her drink, warming her body and soul.  It helped him relax further before he finally felt ready to answer her question from a moment ago.
“You are correct; I am an empath.”
Maria hummed as she took another sip from her drink before placing it on the table, her hands wrapped around the still hot cup.  “It must be very exhausting.” She responded. “I know someone who is an empath as well, but she is very sick right now. I think…” Maria trailed off as her eyes shifted away from Dream’s and became unfocused; her smile falling as she lost herself in her thoughts.
Her emotions were everywhere, from worry, to fear, then to reassurance. They flitted through her soul so fast, Dream felt as if received whiplash, but in a more emotional way. He blinked and leaned forward to gently touch Maria’s hand, sending a wave of positive support through her being. He felt bad for using his power on her, but this was the first time he has seen her so upset and it didn’t feel right.
“Would you like to talk about it?” He offered her relief; clearly this was a touchy subject, he could tell, but he wasn’t about to let her suffer alone. Maria glanced down to where his fingers gently touched hers and smiled. She raised her gaze, and a gentle wave of relief hit his soul. “You are so kind, Dream.” She commented before continuing.
“Norah is a mage with empathetic qualities. She could light up the room, just like you can. Her aura was bright and soothing. Everyone felt at ease with her, even when they were having a bad day. Being around her helped rid them of their daily stress.” Maria explained with a wide smile, but it weakened as she recalled the day her friend had become ill.  “We’re really unsure what had caused her to fall ill. Her brother, Felix, had called Lily in a panic. He said that Norah had fallen unconscious. The poor young man, I had to call for help, he was in such a state of distress. We met them at the hospital and after hours of labs and testing, they couldn’t find the cause of her state of health. It was so strange.”
“The hospital continued to do what they could for her to keep her comfortable while they tried to figure out her illness. It was only a week into her being at the hospital when this young doctor showed up. He said he lived outside of the city, but had heard about Norah’s condition and offered to help. His sudden appearance and willingness to help brought on a wave of unease, especially for Felix, but this doctor seemed to know what to do. He had checked her over and mentioned that it looked as if she were “falling down”, and that set Felix off.” Maria chuckled humorlessly. “He was so angry; said that there was no reason for her to fall down. Typically, monsters or hybrids will do that, but mages? Their souls are strong!”
“Even if that were the case… What could have suffered Norah so much for her to fall into herself?” Dream asked gently, his brows creased with concern. “How long has she been in a coma?” Maria took a moment to drink her now cooled coffee before she answered. “A few months now. The doctor still visits her, but usually when he’s there, she stirs but never opens her eyes. It’s a promising sign, I think. Whatever the doctor is doing, it seems to be the right thing.”
“What-” Dream begins, but falters as he gathers his thoughts, clearly uneasy. “What is the doctor doing to help Norah?” Maria shrugged gently, unable to answer that question. “He doesn’t tell us what he’s doing, performing labs and testing. I know part of the testing has to do with her soul.”
Dream hums as he thinks about it. He’s no doctor, but it doesn’t sound right.  “I suppose,” Dream begins slowly. “If it’s aiding Norah in the end, the doctor’s methods should be trusted?” He didn’t sound sure, because he wasn’t sure- He’s never heard of this before and it really makes him feel so much more useless. His deep frown has the smile returning to Maria; “Don’t worry, Dream.” She tries to ease his worries. “I’m sure you’re right. This is new to all of us, after all. We should trust the doctor.”
“Yes,” Dream returned her smile, even though his worries still gripped his soul. “All will be well in the end, Maria. I’m positive.” His smile widened a little and he chuckled softly at his own unintentional pun.
After such a heavy topic, Maria and Dream switched to a lighter conversation, the rain had stopped by the time they left the shop. They hadn’t meant to stay so long; seeing as the sun was setting, Maria asked Dream over for dinner. He politely declined, explaining that he was quite exhausted. “I understand.” She told him and drove him home. However, they planned for dinner the following night. The shop would be closed, giving them a much needed day off to prepare for the small dinner party. Dream thanked Maria for the ride (and the beverage) and bid her a good night before heading inside his cozy apartment.
-
“He’s full of shit!” Felix’s irritated voice boomed in his apartment; he wanted to throw something, but knew it wouldn’t help matters. (And it would frighten Lily, she hates loud noises-) “Felix,” Lily calmly called after him as she slipped off her sneakers and followed Felix into the living room. “Felix, please calm down. I know you’re upset, but there’s not much we can do.” She tried again, but she knew it just fueled her fiancé's anger. He gripped at his white hair and tugged at it, his huffed before pausing and inhaled deeply. His eyes closed tightly and he counted backwards, 10, 9, 8-
Lily watched him with concern as he tried to calm himself. 7, 6, 5- His shoulders started to fall and his fingers slipped from his hair as his hands fell to his sides. 4, 3, 2- He slouched forward and exhaled, held himself there before inhaling; he caught his breath before turning around to face Lily with a distressed frown. Fresh tears lingered in his blue eyes, but he refused to let them fall. His wet, saddened gaze met Lily’s, his body deflated as if defeated by the stress that had built up once again during their visit at the hospital.
The shorter, young woman’s steps were silent as she moved to stand in front of him and wrap her arms around Felix’s middle. She only came up to his shoulders, her head resting against his chest as she tried to comfort him. His long arms encased her within his embrace and he laid his head on top of hers. In the apartment, he was safe to cry. To release his emotions of despair. “She doesn’t deserve this.”
“She doesn’t.” Lily agrees with him.
“It’s not fair.” He cries softly.
“It’s not.” She rubs his back, her heart breaking as she hears the sadness in his voice.
“That doctor is fucking around with us!” He snapped with a bout of anger.
“He’s been the only one who was able to get her so close to waking up, though.” She tried to defend the doctor; Felix shook his head, disagreeing. “Something isn’t right about him, Lil’s. I know you can feel it, too.” She felt speechless, because he was right. Everyone knew he was right. But, what could they do?
“She’ll come back to us, Felix. Have faith, okay? She’s strong, she’ll wake up.”
Felix remained silent as he held Lily close and cried in the safety of his home.
-
There was no note explaining where he had gone. All that Core!Frisk found in the home was Dream's belongings placed neatly, safely on his bed. Now, Core knew Dream would never leave without his crown; and his weapon was left behind as well. Something he summoned and would always have with him. He didn’t dust or anything- would he turn to dust if he died? Dream wasn’t a monster, but a celestial being. If he didn’t dust, how would they know Dream was gone from the living?
Core shook their head, before deciding to send out a search party. Dream had to be somewhere- he could be hurt! That last battle with his brother had sent him home with a fractured leg; Dream was too determined to save the Multiverse, to spread positivity and save those in need. So, maybe that’s what he was doing?
But without his gear?
“Fresh,” The parasite wore his easy grin as he lifted a bone brow, waiting for Core to continue. “Will you help me look for Dream? He isn’t home.”
“Hah! You betcha, my funk friend!” Still so energetic, Fresh flicked his hands up and pointed his finger guns at Core, moving them in a back and forth motion as he always does. “Thank you, Fresh. I’m going to check in with Swap first, would you mind checking Ink?” With another excitable laugh, Fresh snapped his fingers, a doorway poofing into place that would lead him to Ink’s Doodlesphere. “Sure thang!” The door popped open and the goofy possessed skeleton skated on through. With a dramatic slam, the door disappeared in the same silly way it appeared.
With a soft sigh, Core prepared to check in with Blue, hoping that Dream was there, safe and sound.
Underswap’s AU was doing fantastic! The monsters were on the surface and both the humans and monsters were getting along well enough. There was no sight of any negativity (more so than usual), but there also wasn’t any feeling of positivity that seemed to follow Dream wherever he went. This only made Core uneasy as they knocked on the skeletons door; they only waited for- well, a few seconds really! Blue threw the door open and with his usual excitable grin welcomed Core into his home.
“What brings you here, Core?” Blue asked as he led them further into his home. He offered them a beverage which Core declined politely.  “I’m looking for Dream. Have you seen him?” They asked with a tone of concern. This had Blue alert, but it did nothing to deflate his grin.  “I haven’t, friend. Not since we were last together when we fought Nightmare and his gang! Is he okay? Is he off on his own again?” Blue’s question ended with an exasperated huff of annoyance. It was always like Dream to get up and do things that could hurt his wounds before they had a chance to heal!
“I’m not sure, to be honest. I think he is alone, but I don’t know where he could be. I can’t seem to find him.” Core paused, watching as Blue worked on sewing up his cape that got torn from his last battle.  “He left his belongings at his house.”
This had Blue pausing, now fully alert and worried, filling his soul. He raised his eye lights to study Core for a moment. “Oh. That’s…” Blue began. “That is an odd thing for Dream to do. You can’t sense him anywhere?” Core shook their head. “I can’t. It worries me; he left his crown behind.” This only raised Blue’s concern and he jumped up. “Well! We should go looking for him! Who knows what kind of silly things he’s getting into!”
Dream could be stubborn, especially when he’s been hit with a large amount of negativity. Sure, he is the Guardian of Positivity! But, just like everyone else, he can have blue days too.
“We should go grab Ink-!”
Just as Blue suggested gathering Ink for their search party, the silly artistic skeleton appeared in the living room where he began to panic. Behind him, a relaxed Fresh stood, watching with an easy grin.
“Blue! Blue! Dream is missing!” Ink shouted and he grabbed Blue by his shoulders, shaking him back and forth. Blue tried to get him to stop, but had to push him away and grab him. “Ink!” He raised his voice, snapping Ink out of his panic. “Freaking out won’t help anything! We’re going to search for our friend. Do you have any idea where he could have ran off to? Without his stuff?”
Ink paused as he thought about it, but with his disappearing memories, he had nothing to offer- he even checked his scarf! “I don’t have a clue, sorry Blue. Hey!” Ink grinned, his eye lights changing colors and shapes from his amusement. “That rhymed!” He laughed; it was no surprise to the others, Ink always got distracted so easily. Even with the alarming development of a missing Guardian, Ink’s silliness still got the others to grin.
“Alright!” Blue started and threw his fist into the palm of his other hand, his expression pulled into a determined look. “We should start searching the positive AU’s, I’m sure he’s close by! We’ll find him and bring him home! Our friend needs support! I’m sure Nightmare had said something awful to him that got him feeling down. A movie night/slumber party is in order to help brighten him back up!” Blue declared, the others agreeing with his plan. Each one picked where to check first, Ink having to write his choices down on his scarf and Blue leaving a note for Papy when he came home. (So he didn’t get scared that Blue wasn’t home- or in the AU.) Then, they split up, making their way across the Multiverse, searching for their very dear friend.
-
Something wasn’t right and he wasn’t sure what it was. The castle was quiet, that was strange indeed; but not what was bothering him. There seemed to be a steady increase in negativity, but he was sure his foolish brother would hurry to change that.
Nightmare paused as he laid his feather quill pen down onto the desk, pausing his report so he could feel out for his brother’s annoying presence. Soon, he would step into whichever AU that had dropped a little into a more negative side, and help those who were not doing well, emotionally. Nightmare could tell these AU’s were more neutral, they usually teetered to one side until either brother showed up to fix it.
Of course, Nightmare didn’t think it would be necessary to send his boys out to cause chaos. He was plenty full; besides, it was too soon to be going out to end up fighting with the Stars once more. His boys were still injured, and it didn’t help that Killer kept pissing off Dust to the point of them fighting. Nightmare was growing tired of their bullshit, and would have to send them to the far ends of his castle.
… Hm.
He hummed softly in wonder, before ignoring that strange feeling of something isn’t right, and picked his pen back up to finish his report. He will just enjoy the negativity, never one to turn it down.
The sound of crashing and a Gaster Blaster going off had Nightmare’s anger rise up. He dropped his pen and slipped through his corruption and appeared in the lobby where Killer and Dust were fighting. Cross and Horror were on the sidelines, trying to stop the fight, (trying my ass, he thought).
“That is enough!” Nightmare’s booming voice echoed throughout the castle halls, and caused the two fighting skeletons to freeze in place. They really pissed off their boss this time. “I fucking can’t believe I have to put you both in timeout!” He growled as he sent his tentacles over to snatch up the two and bring them close so they could see just how angry he was this time. His tentacles squeezed them, threateningly, daring them to try his patience. He summoned two portals, one behind each skeleton. “If you like acting like children, then I will send you both to timeout!” He shouted and threw each skeleton into their own portal, locking them away in a different part of the castle until they calmed the fuck down.
“Whoa,” He could feel Cross’s fear and Horror’s uneasiness. “Boss, are you alright? You seem more angry than usual.” Cross dared to ask. Nightmare sent a dark glare at the monochrome skeleton, his tentacles wiggling in furious behind him. “Those two idiots have pushed my patience! I am simply fed up with their foolishness!” He saw Horror shift uncomfortably, Nightmare sighed roughly; “They are in the same rooms as before, Horror. You may only retrieve them when dinner is ready.”
Horror visibly relaxed at that, and nodded; “Yes.. sir.” He drawled before he and Cross turned away to leave their angry boss. Nightmare turned away, allowing himself to be swallowed up by his portal and stepped into his office. He just wanted to get his report finished (a report for his records and no one else), then he could relax with a new book to read. Then, and only then, would he be able to ignore this annoying feeling that just seemed to pester him in the back of his mind.
It irritated him to no end that this feeling had to do with his brother. He probably has a new idiotic plan to “save” me. Nightmare thought bitterly with a roll of his eye. He sat back at his desk and picked back up where he left off.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*There's a thunderstorm, Maria closes the shop early and invites Dream to have a coffee.
*As they enjoy their beverage, Maria speaks about Norah, our young lady who is in the hospital.
*She's a mage with Empathetic powers. No one know why she fell ill; but there is a strange doctor who is "trying" to "help" Norah.
*Everyone tries to be strong and supportive, especially for Felix (Norah is his adopted sister, the adopted part wasn't mentioned in the chapter, whoops. D; ) Felix is the only one who is vocal about not trusting the doctor.
*Core!Frisk, Fresh, Blue, and Ink find out that Dream is missing (in that order, lol) and go searching for him.
*Nightmare feels something is amiss, but ignores it?
*Killer and Dust are at each other's throats, and it pisses off Nightmare, lol.
I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter! I know it was long, and probably boring... Just kind of wanted to show that even though it's a positive AU, there is negativity popping up; the usual stuff. For most citizens, anyway. I'm interested to see what you guys think of Norah and what's causing her to stay asleep for so long! As well as who this doc is and what he's doing. (Super nervous about the reaction to that reveal.)
Let me know what you think? :)

I do not own the characters, just the writing. Please do not claim my work as yours.
Dearest Dream,
I apologize for þe message. I want you to know þat I love you. We will always be bounded. Togeþer forever. Life is just a river wiþ a very strong current, you know I can't swim. I feel like I'm drowning, constantly, I don't know how to stop it. I want everyþing to stop, figuratively and literally. I wish þe world worked in my favor. þey favor you! You can have a perfect life, I want you to have þat with no obstacles. I know I can be a burden. I want to ease your stress, relieve all þe weight from your shoulders, hold your hand throughout all your struggles, rest your head on my shoulders and wipe you tears away. All of þis sounds so farfetched, mainly because it is. I know þat we have no chance grabbing þat paradise.
I guess þis is goodbye, I hope we meet in anoþer life. I sign þis wiþ all my love.
Yours eternally, Nightmare ☆
That was all they left. One small, disoriented, letter. Dream trembled staring at the note, their hands instinctively squeezing shut. Their jaw clamped shut, they had no words. Everything was a whirlwind, the world around them crumbled. Their world was now gone, their sibling was gone.
Tumblr media
Loud, rampant, knocks on the wooden door disturbed Niel's sleep. It was late at night, who would be awake? Niel groaned and sluggishly stepped towards his front door.
"Who would be up at this hour..?" Niel grumbled as he opened the door. The wooden door opened with a screeching creak. Niel stared. He was at a loss for words. What else would you be once there's a sobbing, shaking kid on your doorstep?
"...Kid?..." Niel looked Dream up and down, "What happened...?"

Dream babbled, it was hard to articulate the situation in words. Niel tried everything to calm them down, breathing exercises, drinks, everything. Dream's quivering hands held out the paper to Niel. He accepted it reading every syllable.
Niel shook reading the letter. This really happened, their found family lost a member. Niel immediately assumed it was a suicide note. His tears fell, glistening the paper. It felt like his soul was torn out and shatteted. Possibly even worse.

Nightmare ran. They didn't know where. They didn't know for how long. They just ran. Ran until everything disappeared. Ran until they couldn't. Ran until their drea-
Dream...
Nightmare stopped in their tracks staring at a soft glow of colorful lights resting over a small village. They seemed to be having a celebration? Maybe they could shelter Nightmare.
Nightmare walked for the remainder of the trail and stepped into a, very humble, village. They looked around, there was a ceremony going on? Or was it a ball?
"You're just in time! There's only a few minutes before the orbit begins!"
Nightmare turned to acknowledge the unknown voice. He was met with an owl monster.
"Oh! I must have mistaken you for someone, my apologies!" She seemed squeamish.
"It is no issue ma'am—"Nightmare gave her a small bow—"I do have a question though."
"And I may have an answer!" She squaked, quite literally.
Nightmare internally smiled, "What is all of this for?" They waved their hand around them pointing out the obvious elephant in the room.
"It is the moon ball! We have one e'ry full orbit!"
Nightmare nodded, "For New Year's, correct?"
"Practically! Hopefully you enjoy the celebration, the leader is goin' to speak soon."
Of course they had a leader here, one less job for Nightmare.
"I can't wait."
Tumblr media
Nightmare sat in a library. It was owned by Ms. Holiday Wormwood, the owl monster who they had met. She let them rest in there and they would read day and night.
Nightmare sat checking out a book. They heard a crash followed by a thud. They immediately dropped the book and checked out the issues, clutching their sword tightly.
They walked to the room where the noise came from and saw nothing. They were skeptical. Nightmare turned to walk out and alert Ms. Holiday but they noticed shifting in the corner of their eye. A dagger flew across the room landing in the wall, slightly grazing Nightmare's face. Small drips of purple blood fell from their face as they turned.
They were met with two skeleton monsters, one extremely larger than the other. The large one had a large crack in his skull while the smaller one wore a hood and shawl. After quick thinking Nightmare drew their sword.
"State your name and purpose..." Nightmare spoke.
The hooded one stared, "And why?" His voice was chilling and low, naturally ending with a purr.
"I do not desire a fight nor desire hurting you. Name and purpose."
"Dust, just checking the place out..."
Nightmare turned their sword to the larger monster.
"The big guy's Horror. He don' talk." Nightmare nodded and held their sword at their side.
And with the worst timing Ms. Holiday walked in. A loud hoot filled every corner of the room. Horror instinctively stepped in front of Dust to protect the former.
"Calm Ms. Wormwood. They are just checking out the place."
"That's...great, Moonlight..." Sweat gathered on her brow, "Don't you boys go makin' messes of the place." The three nodded in cacophony.
Tumblr media
Dust has made himself comfy in Horror's sweater, Horror had his arm wrapped around Dust. It got quite cold in the night and the heater had stopped working. Nightmare shivered white sitting by himself, weary of their new roomies.
"There's room for ya if ya wanna stop bein' a priss..." Dust had insisted the line several times, Horror always responded with a nod.
"I apologize for not trusting people who broke into the library, barely talk about themselves, and who I've barely known. We met three weeks ago, you're lucky Ms. Wormwood is compassionate..." Nightmare mumbled the last part.
Dust grumbled, "Don' pick a fight wit' me kid."
Horror defensively placed his hands in the air, it was his non-verbal signage of wariness.
"Ya really lucky I like the big guy." Dust simmered and leaned back into Horror. Horror gestured for Nightmare to join them but Nightmare continued to decline.
Tumblr media
Hour three, so damn cold. Nightmare shivered. Maybe caving into their temptations wasn't so bad. They scooted towards the now sleeping duo of Horror and Dust. Nightmare leaned into Horror's lonesome side and rested their head in his arm.
"So you aren't dumb?" Dust had awoken a few seconds earlier.
Nightmare jolted, "When did you wake?" Their embarrassment was faint in their voice.
"I'm very alert, ya doin' aight? Ain't lookin' too hot." Dust stated.
"I'm fine, just startled." Nightmare's nod was squeamish.
Dust returned a nod and nestled back in Horror's sweater. Nightmare copies feeling Horror tense. Horror pulled the two others close to him, it calmed him.
Dust's eyes shut, "I care about ya too big guy..."
Tumblr media
It has been weeks, still no answers... These outsiders made themselves at home..? How does that work. It all confused him. They were accepted after all the things they've done. They weren't from here, why should they resign here?
With a glitched sigh the intruder lurked back into the shadows of the surrounding forest. It confused him to even think. He hopped into a tree and made it to his makeshift hammock. It was made of blue threads and seemed stable, on the hammock rested a photo of four people. The glitch, two other skeleton monsters, and a human with pink hair. On the photo was a note, written in red ink.
'Miss you!'

PLEASE RAMBLE ABOUT SAUCER I NEED TO KNOW WHATEVER YOU CAN GIVE ME (I know pretty much nothing??? tell me????)
[ * Rubs my grubby little paws together. Ehehe. ]
[ * ULTIMATE SAUCER OVERVIEW? ]
[ * Ahem. Saucer is, in short, an oc who was created for pretty much the sole purpose of interacting with the Dreamtale twins. Mostly Nightmare. Because I’m a sucker for childhood friends to lovers, they became an oc from Dreamtale. Now this brought up questions— what was it like living there? Where did they come from, what was their life like? The elaborating on which eventually lead to me nicknaming this personal variation of the au Somniafable! ]
[ * I DO want to make some written and/or drawn story for their world at some point so I don’t want to give EVERYTHING away… ]
[ * Essentially, the pest who showed up and continuously bugs everyone they meet until they grow on them and are wanted around. The benefits of keeping them around includes: a healer for your party, guy who will get high things off of tall shelves, accomplice to all petty crimes, emotional support, etc etc etc ]
[ * Uhhhh tidbits tidbits…. They’re technically a runaway as a kid, they’ve debated many times whether them chopping wood counts as murder, they have very high HP and DEF which is helpful for their healing magic but causes them to have a relatively low ATK, they’ve repeatedly said that they would fight people to defend others (and once or twice gone through with it) even if they could do. Pretty much no damage. Saucer HATES change most of the time and is a major homebody, picked up embroidery and has knowledge in sewing both to help practice with needles, they’re based on the Saucer Magnolia tree and used to follow the pattern of flowering in the spring and loosing their leaves in the fall but no longer do that after the events of Somniafable’s Apple Incident. ]

ive been watching all my old rnm au episodes and i wanna talk about the nonsense that happens o-0
spoilers for my rnm au under the cut
- Nightmare is the most mature out of the group, Blue is the one that tries to make sense of the situation, Error is the man child
- There is some fgod Error mixed in but it’s not completely fgod, fate and destiny don’t really exist and if they do, they don’t do jack shit.
- The more recent videos had Error and Ink talk out their problems and see what they were doing.
- Every tuesday its hard to tell time in the anti void) Blue and Error just chill and watch undernovela and eat tacos, Nightmare and Cross were sort of intergrated into it
- Cross managed to get Ink to give him his transpo ink and that’s how Crossed escaped his antivoid
- For cross meeting NIghtmare, it was practically love at first sight to him, when he got to know him more and basically become Nights self-proclaimed body guard, he thought he was absolutely adorable
- The reason why Dream never ate the negative apples is cuz he believes that they hold his brothers memories, ever since Dream went crazy and killed everyone and left to go find his brother, he would sometimes come back and relive the memories through the apples, that’s why he knows that his au isn’t in the best state
- The whole series actually spans just half a year, there was tons of other things that happened, there were tons of fights between Error and Ink, and tons of other anti void shenanigans

Angst queen again. Omg your hcs are amazing. I found my new favorite Tumblr blog. Anyways, NM, Dream, Ink, and Error when (the kid is in their teens and can travel aus) runs away? Reactions is they find them both dead and alive? Thank you! And also have a boy 🦔
Awwwww thank you darling, high compliments! I’m glad you think I’m up to snuff, it really makes my day! *Snuggles the boy!* 🦔 What a cute spikey ball of doom. He can be the new conductor of the angst train. Choo choo~!
Sorry it took so long to get this one out, tumblr was having some issues and it ate the response I was working on so I had to start over. Hope this is worth the wait! (Got your other ask, don’t worry, I’m working on that one too)
Ink’s child runs away:
Ink isn’t worried, this isn’t the first time one of his kids have decided to take a joy ride through the au’s. He found the last one no problem after all. They probably just got bored and wanted to have a little fun. He takes a moment to think of all the most likely au’s his kid could have gone to first and then gets in contact with his allies to wrangle them into helping him look for them.
Best case scenario, he finds his kid in one of the tamer au’s, causing mischief and making friends. He’s have a talk with them about why they left, and proper dimension hopping safety procedures. He’ll make sure they talk to him before they decide to run off on an another adventure, and probably invite them out on more of his own so they don’t feel left out.
Worst case scenario? Ink heads to the place he found his last runaway kid…with Error. He gets there too late, just in time to find the poor kiddo already dusting. They regret running away and reach out for him, asking for help with their last words. This isn’t fun anymore, they think. Ink’s face goes blank as he’s overwhelmed with his failure to protect his kid, hand reaching out for theirs just as their dust starts to fall. One job. He has one job and he fucked it up. He leaves the pile of dust and starts hopping through au’s, hoping to find an au version of his kid to bring home with him.
Error’s child runs away:
I could think of a lot of reasons Error’s kiddo might run away. They could be fighting, the kid could feel neglected, maybe they just want the chance to see something great happen before their dad comes around to ruin it. What matters though, is that Error has that moment of pissed off concern that any parent that gave half a shit about their kid has when they can’t find them. He gives it a little bit of time, hoping they’ll come home on their own before he goes out looking for them.
Best case scenario, the kid comes home on their own, safe and sound. They’ll get grounded of course, but Error will be more relieved to see them than upset.
Worst case scenario? Error can’t find his kid while he’s out searching and they don’t come home on their own. In an anxiety induced rage he goes on a destructive rampage destroying au after au. He accidentally deletes the coding for the au his kid was hiding out in and never finds out where they went.
Dream’s kid runs away:
Dream would panic the moment he realized that his kid wasn’t anywhere to be found. But they’re a teenager right? They usually have their phone on them, so he calls them and texts them trying to get into contact with them, hoping they only forgot to tell him they were going out. No such luck, they don’t answer any of his attempts to reach out to them. He goes looking, first in the softer au’s, then the more dangerous ones. The kid probably ran away because they felt like Dream babied them too much.
Best case scenario, Dream finds his kid hanging out and taking shelter somewhere safe. They have a long talk about why the kid ran away and go home together. The kid is snuggled to death and Dream would try to stop babying them so much.
Worst case scenario? The kid wanted to help. They wanted to do what their dad does but he didn’t think they were old enough to do dangerous things like that. They snuck out and tried to play hero but it wound up biting them in the ass. Dream finds a pile of dust and their favorite coat after hours of searching. He’s absolutely heartbroken and the guardian of hope finds that he has none left. Tendrils of grief, despair, guilt, and self hatred plunge into his golden soul, corrupting it.
Nightmare’s kid runs away:
Nightmare is not the easiest guy to be around, he tries his best, but he’s just such an ass sometimes and little things tend to get out of hand with him. His kid might’ve run away because they were tired of having so many harsh and complex feelings without anyone to talk to them about. Nightmare would blame himself entirely and internalize this as just another reason why he’s the worst. He’s such a bad guy even his own kis wants nothing to do with him. He’ll spend a bit feeling sorry for himself before he guilty himself into getting off his ass to go look for his kid.
Best case scenario, he finds them with uncle Dream, talking about their problems in a way he couldn’t help them with. The kiddo is convinced to go home, but Dream offers to take the kid out once a week so they don’t feel like they have no one to talk to, and Nightmare tries to work on his communication skills.
Worst case scenario? The kid winds up in one of the seedier au’s and someone lures them away with the promise of a kind ear to listen with. Instead the kid gets kidnapped by the creep and murdered. Nightmare finds out when he’s passing through searching because the person was bragging about it to one of their buddies. Nightmare flies off the handle and spears them both through the gut with his tentacles, watching the life drain from their eyes. He doesn’t stop there though, he goes on an absolute rampage, spearing and ripping anyone in the vicinity apart until there’s no one left and he’s kneeling on a dirty street corner surrounded by dust and viscera crying his heart out.

The day dragged on, it seemed and it only made everyone around him anxious. It made Dream feel so sick, but he carried on with his duties, trying his best to brighten everyone’s day up a little. He knew why the staff of the shop was so anxious, and he reassured them that there was no reason for it.
Everything would be fine, they only need to be patient.
Dream understood how hard it was for them; their friend had been in this coma for so long and a bit of hope had sparked within them the moment Dream agreed to help. Dream found out that the small family discussed the topic of closing the shop in favor of caring for Norah- Maria chose to keep the shop open for the day, stating that this wasn’t an emergency. “It would be selfish to stay closed when many folks are in need of their groceries.”
It impressed Dream when Maria knew when the shop was going to be busy; it made sense after all, seeing how long she had been running the shop. A lot of folks depended on the small shop and would be caught in a pickle if they weren’t able to get what was needed. Still, he could feel the anxiety within her own soul; she was just as wound up as everyone else was.
The bell chimed as the last customer walked out and Lily was quick enough to flip the sign to ‘closed’. She busied herself with the chore of cleaning the store, while Maria worked on counting the till and finishing up paperwork.
Kai had already left for his second job a few hours ago and would meet everyone at the hospital later. Dream switched the radio to an upbeat song, then started to help Lily with cleaning the store up. The songs that played helped lighten the atmosphere; Dream helped a little too when he started to hum a familiar song. He could see the tension in Lily’s body relax and her smile returned.
It was unusual to be this quiet, but Dream knew the women had a lot on their minds. Dream would have been just as stressed, but he only felt a peace course through his body and soul. He had the confidence that he would help Norah wake up and heal her body from whatever had made her sick.
Once the chores were done and the money counted, Maria closed everything up and shut off the lights, as well as gently guiding Dream and Lily out of the store. They climbed into the car, waiting for Maria to start it and drive away.
Dream watched Maria grip the steering wheel as her uneasiness reflected on her face.  She must have noticed him studying her; she smiled softly, uneasily and released a shaky laugh.  “I’m sorry, Dream. You must have been so uncomfortable all day.” Dream offered a sympathetic smile. “Do not worry about me, Maria. I understand and I am used to it. Just try to relax, everything will be fine.”
Maria’s brows dipped down as she glanced at him worriedly. “What if you can’t save her?”
You can’t save anyone. Stop now before you ruin everything.
He forced the negative thoughts down and he gave Maria a determined look. “Then I’ll try again. I won’t give up on Norah.” She needs my help and I won’t abandon her now.
“What do you plan to do?” It was Lily who asked, Dream glanced at her through the rearview mirror and smiled. “I plan to wake her up. From there, I will heal her body so she won’t be ill any longer.” Lily’s face pinched; “That sounds too easy.” She said, disbelief in her tone. Dream hummed in agreement. “It does, but I know I can do it.” Lily visibly relaxed at that, yet he could still feel her doubt. “I hope so, Dream. For both Norah’s and Felix.”
The rest of the ride to the hospital was silent aside from the radio playing. Dream let himself relax, pulling the positivity from around him. The two women were still feeling apprehensive about what was to come and it only made Dream feel sick. They tried not to, but he understood. This was something serious, and they were trusting him even though they had only met him a few weeks ago.
Maria pulled into a parking spot and Dream peered up at the hospital, already feeling the negativity of all who were sick and dying inside. He had to focus on his positivity. He siphoned in all the happiness and peace from around him, building up his strength.
Stepping out of the car, Dream stretched his bones before following the two women into the hospital. Because Norah was in her coma, she was on the Intensive Care Unit, which in this hospital was on the second floor. Once the doors to the elevator opened on the second floor, Dream inhaled deeply, already hearing Norah’s soul call out for help. She was close.
They had to check in, let the nurses know they were in to visit, before Maria led her small group into Norah’s hospital room…
The darkness dripped all around the room, it was negativity for sure. It threatened to suffocate Dream as he drew in closer to the hospital bed where the young woman laid, looking peaceful in her sleep. But, he knew better, she was tormented within her dreams. Within her mind, where she was kept prisoner.
Dark tendrils of negativity gripped around her soul, making her flinch at the pain. The darkness knew Dream was near.
“Let’s begin with opening the blinds.” Dream began as he walked over to the windows and raised the blinds to let in the sunlight. “Oh,” Dream paused when he heard a new voice behind him. He glanced over his shoulder to see one of the nurses standing in the entryway; she looked nervous. “The doctor said to keep those closed during the day.”
Dream looked confused. “I do not understand. She needs sunlight, it will help, I am sure of it.” The nurse continued to shuffle nervously. “Ah, he did not give an explanation other than the patient needed rest.” Dream raised a bone brow and shook his head. “I’m sorry, I will not close them. This room shouldn’t be dark. It’s no wonder why her brother is always so sad. Darkness welcomes the sad and depressed. We should be happy and relieved that Norah is still alive.”
The nurse paused as she regarded Dream’s speech, and a small smile lifted at the corners of her lips. “I-I agree. Then, I will not trouble you with the blinds any longer. Please, if you need anything let me know.” She explained, smiling to all three before walking out.
Dream turned away from the now opened windows, the sunlight pouring in and chasing away the darkness. “No wonder she wasn’t getting any better. She was being bathed in the dark.” He told Maria and Lily. He quietly walked over to Norah’s bedside and studied her. She looked thin and sickly. The doctor, whoever he was, wasn’t doing a very good job at trying to keep her nourished.
“How much longer before Felix and Kai arrive?” Dream suddenly asks, his focus still on Norah. “They should both be here within twenty minutes.” Maria replied and Dream nodded. “We will wait for them. Felix should be here when she wakes up.”
-
Felix was the first to burst into the room. He was in a panic, afraid of… Well, just about anything! More harm falling onto his sister. Norah possibly woke up and he wasn’t there.
Her passing…
But, he was relieved to see Dream sitting beside Norah’s bedside, patiently waiting for the two men to arrive. Kai walked in after, politely shutting the door and closing the privacy curtain in case the nurses decided to come in and stop Dream.
“You haven’t started yet?” Felix asked, sounding relieved. “I haven’t.” Dream confirms gently. “Are you ready for me to start?” Felix relaxes his tense shoulders and nods, his focus on his malnourished sister. “Yes, you can start.” With a nod, Dream stood quietly and raised his hand to hover over Norah’s body.
“I am going to remove her soul from her body. Do not panic, she will be safe. I want to see what damage has been done to her.” Dream explains. “After I have finished checking her soul and I believe she is safe, I will wake her up. Please do not hover or try to interrupt me, it may cause more damage to Norah.”
“Will it hurt her?” Felix asks, his voice small and unsure. He was so afraid. His sister had been through enough. She was his only family (aside from Lily) left. He couldn’t lose her.  “I will make sure she remains safe, Felix.” Dream said as he turned to look at him with a resolute expression. “This will not hurt her, I assure you.”
Felix exhaled quietly, his eyes falling to watch Norah’s face, to watch for any sign of pain or discomfort. Fear filled the room too quickly- Dream began, cupped the air and when he pulled up, Norah’s green soul appeared over her body.
Her soul was tainted with a darkness that swirled within her soul. They were like chains, binding her and imprisoning her. Dream’s eyes narrowed in wonder and upset; this was familiar to him, but he didn’t feel Nightmare’s presence. In fact, this darkness that bound Norah’s soul felt strange. It was different than Nightmare’s corruption.
With his magic, he worked at the corruption, struggling to remove it from her soul. The more he fought with it, the more strange and unfamiliar it became. He hadn’t witnessed anything like this before. He didn’t want to shove too much of his magic into her soul and make her worse, so he took his time.
“What is on her soul?” Lily asked gently. She had found her place beside Felix, her hand in his and squeezed his in a form of comfort. “I believe it is corruption. I’ve seen something like this before, but this one is different.” Dream explained, but kept his eyes focused on Norah’s soul. “It’s strong magic.” He muttered, but they heard it.
“Was it the doctor?” Felix asked, his voice dropping in anger- Dream sent him a look of warning. “I know you’re angry, Felix, but please. That form of negativity will only make this worse.”
Felix bit his lip and glanced away, his hand squeezing Lily’s back. She did her best to soothe him. Maria stepped closer, watching Dream work at breaking the dark spell. He was careful, like a surgeon’s focus on making the proper incisions during surgery. Dream’s focus remained on Norah’s soul as he weaved his magic through the soul and broke each link of magic chains.
During this, Maria took note of how the room brightened; not by the sunlight, but from Dream’s aura. His body glowed with bright positivity, that made him look ethereal. That image alone convinced her that Dream was an angel sent to them from the Stars above. A monster of miracles, brought to them in their time of need.
The admiration from Maria filled Dream’s soul and with the helpful positivity, the last of the dark magic broke from Norah’s soul, filling her with nothing but Dream’s positive magic. With a soft, relieved sigh, Dream gently guided the soul back into Norah’s body.  “When I wake her up, do not hover. She may react poorly. Give her space until she is ready.” Dream warned, he didn’t wait for their agreement, and reached up to Norah’s head and used his magic, pulling her from the heavy blanket of sleep…
Norah’s usual beautiful brown eyes were darker than normal thanks to the deep sleep that she was under. Her pupils constricted at the bright light of the sunlight and the skeleton monster above her, causing her to squint before blinking a few times. She moaned softly, her voice scratchy as she tried to speak, her throat sore from being asleep for so long.  “Where-?”
“N-Norah?” Felix asked as he cautiously stepped closer to her bedside, taking the place where the skeleton monster once stood. The monster backed away slowly, but stayed close; for what reason, she wasn’t sure of. He watched Felix closely, and she wondered if it was another trick from the doctor.
Maria was quick to leave the room, requesting for some fresh ice water for Norah, as well as explaining that Norah was awake.
“Fe-ix” She managed to get out and tried to clear her throat. “Norah, oh Stars, you’re awake!” He cried, tears instantly falling from his eyes. He leaned down to hug her, crying into her shoulder as she weakly hugged him back. She cried too, her tears mixing into his hair as she trembled and cried. The monster who stepped aside smiled, catching Norah’s attention.
His smile was so bright, serene, and charming. Nothing like the monster who put her under a spell and fed off of her emotions. This one, standing in her hospital room looked exactly like the one who she saw in her dreams. “You came after all?” She managed to get out, her voice scratchy and broken.
“I did.” He said and his smile widened. Maria hurried in with a nurse who carried in a paper cup of ice chips. The nurse politely asked Felix to move away so she could check Norah’s vitals. He chose to sit beside the bed, his hand holding Norah’s as the nurse did their job. After getting cleared to have the ice, they helped sit Norah up in bed and she weakly crunched on the ice; the cold water soothing her throat.
“Are you alright?”
“I feel okay… How long was I asleep for?”
“Months. Do  you remember what happened?”
“I think so? I remember being held by strange wiggling black appendages before I was knocked out. Oh, wait. The doctor- whe- where is he?”
Norah looked around the room, nervously before resting her tired eyes on Dream. He noticed how she studied him with distrust. “You… You’re not the doctor, right? He can disguise himself.”
The room fell silent, the four humans had to take a moment for that to settle in their minds. Dream tensed, he looked so worried now. “I am not the doctor, Norah. But, the way you describe him… Tell me, have you seen his face?” Norah nodded, and she gestures towards him. “He looks just like you, but with black goo.”
Felix was up on his feet in an instant, his anger returning fast. “You’re the attacker?!” Dream raised his hands to try and calm Felix down. He was so confused; the only one he knew with black goo was his brother. But, he supposed there could be a possibility someone could shapeshift. But with black goo?
“I am not the doctor.” He repeated to Felix. “I do not have the corruption she is talking about either.” He turned his attention to Norah then. “Did he tell you his name?” Norah shook her head at that. She paused and closed her eyes as a dizzy spell hit her after such a small motion. “When he is a doctor, he looks like a normal monster. But, when no one is around, he is back to his black goo body with those tendrils behind him. He wears a crown on his head, or… Not a crown, but a circlet? It looks like two hands reaching for each other in the center- ah, like this.”
Norah demonstrates what she was meaning by bringing her hands together, one with the palm turned up and the other with the palm turned down, both in a cupping motion as if they were about to grab onto each other.
Dream’s face paled, he knew what she was talking about. It was the same as his own- did someone take it after he left? Were they playing a prank or were they trying to sabotage him?
“His one good eye was golden, like yours. But, he holds no compassion, no happiness in that eye. He said that my ancestors had hurt his family long ago and that I had to pay for their crimes.”
“What the fuck-?!” Felix shouted, Maria snapped at him to not shout or curse in the hospital. However, everything around Dream seemed to fade away as he thought over what Norah said.
How could that be? Nightmare wouldn’t do that, right? There was no one else in this multiverse who looked like him or his brother.
Right?
What if there was? Blue and Ink… They are different versions of the classic skeleton known as Sans. Is it possible that there are different versions of Nightmare and I?
“Well, this is quite the surprise.”
Everyone in the room turned their attention to the entryway where the doctor stood. His false smile stretched across his lips as he studied the room.  “What a relief, you are awake, Norah-”
“Enough pretending, you prick.” Felix snapped, his anger targeted at the doctor now. “We know you’re the one who hurt Norah. Drop the fucking act.” His tone dripped with venom, he sounded ready to fight. To tear the asshole into pieces.
“I see.” The doctor said gently, his smile falling for a moment, before he grinned cruelly. “What a relief. This play-pretend was getting old.” The six of them watched in horror as the disguise fell away to reveal a skeleton monster; his black goo, the corruption dripped off of his body and the tentacles at his back swayed like a cat’s tail would.
Just as Norah said, the monster looked exactly like Dream, but with the corruption covering his entire body. Dream noted how the damaged eye socket was opposite of his brother’s. “Who are you?” Dream demanded, stepping in between the monster and the small family. He balled his fists at his sides- he wasn’t all alarmed when his weapons didn’t materialize in his grasp. He left them behind, after all.
“Dream~” The monster purred, his grin widening. “I was surprised you showed up here. At first, I thought you came to stop me, but when I noticed the depression and sadness, I knew you were simply following the same path I did.”
“What are you talking about? How do you know about me? Explain yourself!” Dream demanded, panic settling in his soul that he refused to show. However, this monster before him seemed to know exactly what he was hiding.  “Do you not get it, yet?” The monster laughed. “I am you. My name is Dream- well, no. See, I used to be like you. Until my last fight with my corrupted brother. After he accused me of not knowing his pain, I ate the black apple, and my soul shattered; I became corrupted myself while my brother was back to normal.
“So, yes. I am Dream, but I go by a different name now; I am called Shattered Dream.”
Something was wrong and Nightmare needed to know what it was.
It was a simple mission to feed off of the negativity that was growing within the multiverse, and to his luck, his boys caught up with Ink and Blue.
“It’s quite unusual for you both to be out here. Where is my brother? I can tell he’s done something foolish.”
Blue and Ink looked at each other, but kept their teeth tightly sealed. “You won’t get anything from us!” Blue exclaimed, stubbornly.  “That’s right!” Nightmare rolled his eyelight. He was in no mood for their games. “What has my idiot brother done this time, tell me this instant!” He snapped at them, threatening them with his tentacles, sharpened at the ends and pointed at the two skeletons.
“We’re not telling you!” Blue repeated again. “Yeah! We don’t even know where he is anyway!” The silly, forgetful skeleton explained. “Ink!” Blue snapped in disbelief at his friend. “Nightmare wasn’t supposed to know that!” Ink looked confused, his eye lights flashing different colors and shapes. “Oh, he wasn’t?” Blue sighed, and if he wasn’t tied up right now, he’d slap his hand over his face.
“Holy shit, Dream Boy is gone?” Killer asked in disbelief. “Did he really run away?” Cross asked and he pulled his phone out to check over his latest messages with his best friend Epic. Nightmare glared at Cross; “What do you mean by that, Cross?”
Cross, realizing his mistake, made himself as small as he could before Nightmare’s rising rage. “Do you mean to tell me that you kept this from me?!” Cross stuttered as he tried to get himself out of trouble with Nightmare. “I-I didn’t realize it was true, boss!” Nightmare groaned and pinched the bridge of his nasal bone. “Idiots, all of you.” He muttered to himself.
The sound of Error’s glitching portal opened behind him, further irritating the Guardian of Negativity. “T-There y-y-you are-e.” Error spoke, his glitches were grating on Nightmare’s already thinning patience. “I-I-I found-d-d D-Dream-m.”
The group of skeletons perked up, Blue and Ink looking happy. Ink burst from his bindings somehow. “That’s great, Error! Where is he?”
Nightmare watched Error’s expression twist in unease and he threw his thumb back at the portal behind him. “H-He’s on th-he other si-ide of the m-multivers-s-se. Nightm-mare, you b-better com-me see this-s too-o.”
Error wasn’t one to let monsters and humans come into his space, but he let this one slide. Once everyone had entered, and Error smacking both Ink and Killer for trying to mess with his things, he opened a window to show the AU where Dream was “hiding” out at.
“I-I thought may-ybe he was-s on vac-c-cation. B-B-But he’s be-e-een here for we-e-eeks.” Error started to explain. “I-I-I thought he wa-a-as going after you-u-u, Night-tmare, but lo-o-ok.”
Nightmare watched closely as Error finished searching for Dream again, only to find him in a hospital. He stood between a group of humans and-
“Holy shit!”
“It’s another Nightmare!”
“Cool!”
Nightmare frowned, his eye socket narrowing into a small glare. “That is not me, you idiots.” Error turned to look back at Nightmare with a frown.  “Th-he ano-anomaly’s name is-s Shattered Dream.” Ink snapped his fingers suddenly as if remembering something. “Oh yeah! There was an AU where Dream ate Nightmare’s apple and he became the new Nightmare!”
“What is Dream doing there with him?” Nightmare asked, frowning deeply. A different kind of anger is consuming him now. A sense to go and protect his brother joined the anger, but Nightmare wasn’t about to unpack that.
“Th-The sick hu-uman pis-s-sed the an-nomaly off, app-parrently. Dre-e-am sa-aved her, and now is-s facing-g-g hi-im.”
“That idiot.” Nightmare grumbled under his breath. He had this feeling that Dream would be no match for this version of himself. Facing an enemy, Dream always don his usual attire, circlet, and weapons. Something was wrong.
“We need to go to him, then!” Blue explained and suddenly pulled out of his inventory, Dream’s weapons and circlet. “He does not have his weapons!” Nightmare rolled his eyelight. He knew it. “Error, take us there this instant-”
Error interrupted Nightmare with a laugh and shook his head. “I-I’m not doi-ing anything of-f the sort-t. N-Not without pay-yment!” Nightmare’s eyelight rolled once again, and he released a heavy sigh. “You will get your chocolate bars. Now, take me to Dream, this instant!” Error acted like he was thinking about it, Nightmare’s anger began to rile  up once more. The moment Nightmare’s tentacles sharpened, Error gave in. “Fi-ine.”
The window disappeared and a portal took it’s place. Nightmare didn’t have to give any commands, he knew his boys would follow him through. Blue and Ink were quick to follow after Nightmare, Cross hurrying after to catch up to his boss. Killer, Dust, and Horror followed right after at a more leisurely pace.
