EverQuest Announces 25th Anniversary Special Rules Servers, Teek and Tormax
It was always on the EverQuest roadmap to launch at least one new special rules server this year in order to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game. EverQuest Anniversary Time They had been slotted in for a may launch on the somewhat bloated 2024 roadmap. The EverQuest 2024 Roadmap If that image is hard to read I have it broken out in detail in a post from earlier this year. Last week…

PACH MESSED UP RYZOM PATCH
PACH MESSED UP RYZOM SERIES
PACH MESSED UP RYZOM FREE
That zone contains both decayed skeletons, who drop bone chips for summoning your skeletal pets, and sarnak hatchlings, whose brains you'll need for your first newbie quest.
If you're an Iksar necromancer, try to start out in the Lake of Ill Omen zone, located through a cave behind the warriors' guild in West Cabilis.
If Ruins of Kunark is any example of what Verant can do, then EQ fans should have a lot to look forward to in EverQuest's future. If you've ever thought of coming to visit Norrath for the first time, now's a great time. From level 51 up, spellcasters gain a handful of spells each level, and melee classes can learn "disciplines," which allow them to customize their fighting styles.įans of EverQuest probably already have Ruins of Kunark, simply because it's more fuel for their obsession. Of course, the rest of Norrath is more or less the same, with the added bonus that players can now reach level 60, rather than the previous limit of 50. Periodic connectivity problems and lag spikes detract a bit from the overall experience, but patient gamers will always find a reason to log back on after getting bumped off.
PACH MESSED UP RYZOM PATCH
The only problem with the expansion so far is the massive patch that downloads the first time one logs on (took over five hours on a 56k modem) and the immense overcrowding of the Kunark newbie zones, as everyone and their mothers all rush to try out the Iksar at the same time. Trees sway lightly in the breeze, and monster textures look much better than they ever did, and that's saying a lot. Ruins of Kunark has slightly more stringent hardware requirements than the original EverQuest, simply because the new continent is much more visually complex, with its more detailed textures and animated environment.

PACH MESSED UP RYZOM SERIES
Every class of Iksar has a series of "newbie quests" for lower-level characters to complete, making young life in Kunark seem much less like a game of "rat hunter 3D" than almost anywhere else in Norrath. The Iksar are a great example of what Verant can do if given half a chance - the Iksar themselves flesh out very nicely, and their city is definitely one of the most complete as far as quests and things to do go. Ruins of Kunark adds an entire continent to the already massive world of Norrath, and it introduces a new player race of lizardmen, called the Iksar. Verant's slogan says "You're in our world now," but it's really all yours. If you're not in for fighting, you can just hang out with friends, fish on the docks, and watch the sun come up over the Butcherblock Mountains. While you're there, you'll fight slimy goblins, cruel gnolls and treacherous humans as you constantly strive for the next level. If you've been living in a cave the past few months, here's the deal: you log onto an EverQuest server, create a character from thirteen races (from ogres to elves) and fourteen classes (from warriors to bards), and go out into the online world of Norrath in search of adventure. To commemorate the success of their groundbreaking online RPG, Verant Interactive and Sony bring you EverQuest: Ruins of Kunark, an expansion set that shows just how far EverQuest has come in a year. (IDG) - Despite anyone's expectations, EverQuest continues to go on strong even a year after its release. EverQuest shows its staying power with Ruins of Kunark From.

I never thought I'd see an EverQuest advert again. It's been so long.
Everquest ads. I downloaded them long ago, so I’m unsure what years they were taken or from which websites

Fan-made classic Everquest is coming this weekend, and with the devs’ approval
Twenty years later, Everquest is still around - one of the most popular and influential of the pre-WoW MMORPGs is due to get its 26th expansion this December. But as you may have noticed, nostalgia is common these days - especially in the MMORPG world - and a group of misty-eyed fans are launching a classic Everquest server.
Under the umbrella name Project 1999, the server will recreate Everquest in its purest and earliest format, down to its early patch progression. The new PvE server aims to recreate the 1999-2001 experience of Everquest for all to enjoy.
The plan for Project 1999 is to start at the very beginning of what Everquest once was. Starting October 25, Project 1999: Green will be released, creating a server at the very base level of the original Everquest - and as the months progress patches and changes will be introduced exactly as they were to the original Everquest once was, including the Ruins of Kunark expansion and Scars of Velious expansions from April and December 2000. There’s a timeline showing when updates are scheduled to arrive - expect Plane of Fear in January 2020, and Plane of Hate in April.

The first dozen EverQuest expansion have been released in real boxes in the US. (And then there is LoY that did not get a box to begin with, but you know, frogs.)
Anyway the expansion box art is telling Firiona Vie's life in a nutshell.
And since polls can only have 10 options, please reply with "12" to vote for expansion 12:
12) The Serpent Spine - OMG, Firiona finally seems happy!? Maybe because she can finally summon blue light balls?

I really enjoyed everquest, but I have to admit that the kunark era was my favorite, followed by luclin.
When planes of power came out, suddenly you could not get groups without high end gear, which often had to be bought with real money.
But at the time of kunark, mostly, getting a group was easy. The atmosphere was terrific in the old iksar city, and I would lose myself just looking at the broken ruins of a once mighty alien empire.

I'm not a student any more...
The night before last, I did something I have not done for about a decade; I stayed up until 2am playing Everquest. Yes, I know I usually talk about Pathfinder here, but Everquest has a special place in my heart.
Technically, it's not Everquest; I play on an emulated server called Project 1999 (Blue) which simulates the Kunark era. Apparently Velious will be added in a while, but that's where it stops. No Luclin, no Vah Shir, no PoP and its easy travel options. Classic Everquest with its long runs and boat-trips between cities, just how I used to play it.
Half an hour later, I realised that I was not going to find what I needed here. I tried asking directly, but nobody had anything suitable, even on an alt, so off I went to Chardok myself.
Mentathiel the level 10 rogue headed out to the level 65 dungeon clad in... well, in nothing actually. Losing some experience would be a pain, but I could live with that. A corpse run across two continents and back into danger would be too much.
It took an hour of running, sneaking and waiting for boats. I saw giants and demons and sarnak warriors. I saw rhinos and sentient cacti. I saw Tier'Dal and undead guards. Each one shared one important trait; if they saw me, I would die before I could even raise my weapon.
Especially since my only weapon was a fishing rod I had brought along so I could improve my fishing skill...
There, in Chardok, I searched the corpses left behind by characters six times my level. I picked among the scraps they left to rot because it was not worth the effort of looting such minor trinkets.
I saw swords worth more than all my gear (to the right buyer) left because they were too heavy to lug back to a vendor who would offer them a pittance. I am not too proud to admit that I looted a nice longsword for my daughter's warrior.
After watching three epic battles, someone handed me the weapon I had been seeking. No charge, no need to even ask; he knew I was looking and made a gift of it.
And that was at 12:30...
Not wanting to be a bother, I tried leaving. I had managed to sneak past so many dangerous monsters, so it was just a case of taking it slowly and hoping nothing had the ability to see through my invisibility.
In the end, it was user error. I decided (through pride) to equip my new sword and something about that action let a previously-neutral monster see me. In two hits, I was dead. Looking at my combat log, I realised with some amusement that I had been slain by the very monster which dropped my rare weapon.
It was half an hour before someone in the zone was able to drag my corpse back to a healer, another five minutes before a cleric was free to raise me. Five minutes of resurrection sickness left me unable to leave and by that time, the people in the zone were preparing for one more attack.
"After this pull, I'll teleport you out..."
A wizard gave me hope, telling me to sit tight and he would take me home to save on corpses. I just had to wait while they fought one more wave of monsters.
And I got to watch their first wipe of the night. An epic TPK which ended with me alone against a horde of monsters who could see through my stealth.
Ten minutes later, I was back in the dungeon waiting for the resurrection sickness to pass. This time, half the party was leaving and I hitched a ride to Greater Faydark with the wizard. It took until 1:42am, but I got back home with my prize.
This is adventure... Forget grinding experience in Crushbone or earning plat selling bone-chips to necromancers, I earned my dagger in blood and sweat and tears. Even if the dagger was scavenged from a corpse someone else killed, I walked into a high level dungeon in Kunark. I spent an evening and more of the morning than was healthy to do it, but this dagger is mine. Also, since it was free, I still have money to upgrade my armour and maybe even pick up some stat-boosting jewellery.
Just a shame I didn't get to bed until almost 2am. I'm not as young as I used to be (I remember playing Velious-era Everquest) and I really can't keep doing that when I have work in the morning...
