I loved Phantom Rider both in design and concept and if I'm not mistaken it was inspired by Kamen Rider, right? although he may also remind me a little of Protoman, could you tell me what the costume is made of and how it works? To me it looks like he's made of light or digitally materialized (which is a surprising feat for Eggman) and does the suit have low durability or can it be affected by electricity? since Surge gave an electric punch to the helmet, I know things can't be said to avoid spoilers, but does the suit have other functions that don't depend on Eggstreme Gear? like tools for self-defense? I would just love it if he continued to be a recurring character through something like Red X on Teen Titans

Yeah, the Phantom Rider was first inspired by Kamen Rider! Not really a specific specific series, though; I collected a bunch of suits I liked. Aaron Hammerstrom and Min Ho Kim did most of the actual designing, and they brought some influences of their own-- I think Protoman and other Megaman stuff was in there yes. Various Metal Sonic designs were pulled from, especially Metal 3.0 and the one from Sonic the Fighters; considering that the suit was made by Eggman for Sonic, it's natural that he'd pull from his Metal Sonic designs a bit. We've seen a handful of things that seem to be "hard light"-like creations in the series before; various platforms and roads, barriers, Phantom Ruby stuff (that's me speculating), etc. It's a bit of a leap for Eggman to harness it so handily, but not a huge one. The suit was made quickly so it isn't very durable; its primary purpose is to disguise, not protect. It can shield against some physical attacks but doesn't do great with energy, like we've seen with Surge's electricity.

As for if it'll reappear later on, who's to say? I know a lot of the comic team like it a lot, so never say never.

Younger Siblings Tournament Bracket Reveal

A few things I want to mention before I reveal the bracket (and make the post really long because all the matchups will be listed in text):

Seeding of fictional characters in tumblr polls is inherently subjective. I did try to make it so that more popular characters/media would (most likely) face off against each other in later rounds, but I may be overestimating or underestimating the popularity of some characters/media, especially ones I'm not familiar with. There are some round 1 matchups that are probably a closer match but none of them are between the strongest candidates... I think.

The more niche characters will probably get obliterated in the first round as per Squimbus' Law. This is a tumblr poll and I do fully expect more popular characters to sweep, but that doesn't mean you can't encourage your friends to give your niche faves a fighting chance.

Also there are some matchups I literally just thought would be funny. Please don't take this too seriously.

i just spent a significant amount of time putting together (a) timeline(s) for every piece of sonic media i can think of minus the racing games because... idk it doesn't matter that much

just pretend sonic 4 episodes 1 and 2 are classic games. they're styled like classic games and apparently intended to be direct sequels to sonic 3&K

sonic boom is what happens when they go modern but wrong

alternate "forever classic / young" timeline made by phantom ruby fuckery

sonic advance 2 has to take place before sonic adventure because in sonic x (based on adventure) sonic already knew cream

solaris' flame existing causes sonic 06 to happen but it got deleted when they went back in time in Sonic 06 so therefore that never happened

Sonic 06 time fuckery caused displacement with silver and blaze, making silver really confused and placing blaze in the sol dimension i guess

sonic rush and sonic rivals therefore have to happen before the storybook titles because in alternate modes versions of blaze and silver are available and iirc every alternate character in those worlds are based off of sonic's memories of his friends

at least sonic and the secret rings has to happen before colors because sonic directly references "saving genies in magic books"

sonic generations classic sonic is sonic's younger self (likely from sonic 2 due to the absence of classic knuckles and him being mute)

the chao in space short can just be sonic chilling. let him chill. he never gets to chill

I tried to redo the combat for them, since they're mobian and do not have pokemon now. And I figured that not each one of them will have the same powers like Sonic or Tails do. Most of them will probably not be able to do a basic spin attack because reasons. So I thought of possible solutions. For the Sinnoh characters, at least.

Dia uses his tail as his everything. He hoards berries and other stuff in it and treats it like his second backpack, just like his Munchlax. That's why he's a bit more heavy. Bro is smart enough to use his tail as his third hand as well. His Mach Diamond Special Razor Leaf One and Only™ will probably also have something to do with his tail, like shooting leaves/berry spikes from it rapidly. To make his tail sturdier, he splashes special berry juice on it.

I thought that maybe the Sinnoh trio also have Super forms, so by being blessed by the lake guardians, they become powered up by their Emotions/Determination/Knowledge.

Pearl, on the other hand, is all about speed. I suppose no one will argue if I gave him a boost as a replacement for Chimhiko's fire blasted boost. And I think homing attacks would be cool too. To replace his Chahiko, I can give him a friend Flicky.

For obtaining pokemon, I'd say they'll be getting something like power ups from SA/SA2. Thus, Pastoria Marsh will be an adventure field where you need to find an upgrade, since apparently beating each other to death is a sport.

Little Miss would have some kind of psychic powers. Given that she's from a wealthy family, might as well make it so that she's from a family which has this power as a legacy. I'd say controlling ice? She has a Froslass and Empoleon, which have ice attacks. It'd be like the opposite of Blaze, kinda. I believe she would still have some kind of mount to replace Ponyta/Rapidash, but I'm not exactly sure which one I could give to her.🤔🤔

Riley has the same abilities and attacks as his Lucario.

Team Galactic uses gadgets and gizmos to help them fight.

Cynthia here is a dragon, so of course she would have somewhat similar attacks to her Garchomp. She also has a hoverboard(reference to Sonic Riders), with which she races. When the trio is in Celestic Town, she leaves them her hoverboard instead of going in by herself.

Oh, also. Pokédex holders like Crystal and Ruby will have their titles tied to Chao and other creatures from sth series. Crystal studies them and catches them, while Ruby participates in Chao cups and contests. So maybe that means that Battle Frontier is like... Chao karate? lol.

What about Pokémon puns? I'm... not sure?? You can change the comedy routine's subject into just about anything sonic universe related.

If you were given the chance to write for a new Sonic, featuring the return of the kuku empire, what would you write? Where would you add world building and who of the main cast, and others, would you feature in it?

First of all, if Sega had ever had the balls to bring the Kukku Empire back, it would probably be a Mania-inspired game. And if it did, I think it would have the same, if not very similar plot points and ideas to it.

Old and new stages, with the old ones being from Game Gear and Master System games (y'know, Tails' home console!). Instead of focusing on speed, it would be much more on the exploration aspect, as that was also a great aspect of those. Maybe focus more on the "high flying" aspect. It would be interesting to see how more grounded characters like Sonic and Mighty would deal in this sort of environment.

If we REALLY pushed our buttons farther, the Witchcarters would be there as well, although probably as mini-bosses. Sega seems to favor them anyway. Limit a little of Eggman's appearance, though. Maybe let him cameo at an ending cutscene.

For story? I don't think the Kukkus would be that interested in pursuing the Chaos Emeralds after that, erm, first attempt, hehe. Maybe the Warp Topaz to keep the "modern-trinket-goes-to-classic-world" gimmick they did with the Phantom Ruby. If not, then either the Chaos Rings or Time Stones! Keep the same old shit of Speedy as the "Metal Sonic" of the game and Great Battle Kukku as the typical final boss.

If I was in COMPLETE charge?

I probably wouldn't take it. I can't code a game, hehe.

In all seriousness, I'd probably try some things that the fans wouldn't like it all that much. After all, I love it when Sega tries to experiment and go a bit off the rails with Sonic gameplay (Tails Adventure and Knuckles' Chaotix are my favorite games, after all!)

Sticking to what I said earlier, exploration is kind of an important aspect of Tails Adventure, and I'd proooobably bring back some classic trinket or thingamajig, like the previously mentioned Chaos Rings.

One thing that CERTAINLY wouldn't make the fans happy, judging that I was a massive Pokemon gen 5 fan, is that I'd probably limit gameplay to only Tails and Speedy. Make it a godamn Sonic Adventure 2/Riders split story thingie! And since Sonic Frontiers happens to have Tails implying to be going on an adventure of his own, maybe the game would happen right after that!

For a setting, I don't really know what I would put it. Probably an entirely new setting, as Flicky's Island was already taken by the Witchcarters in the IDW comics! A new place that the Kukkus decided to conquer, but their luck is just used to attract foxes, huh.

While I said that I'd limit main gameplay to Tails and Speedy, there could be a Sonic 06 thing and find others of Tails' buddies to play as. I'd prefer the child characters like Cream, Charmy, and maaaybe Ray since they all seem to focus on flight anyway. For Speedy? Fuck it we ball, introduce new characters! Give my mans some friends, godamnit!

I'd pull a Rush Adventure, where we would be focused on finding resources and building things to maneauver through the place, kind of replacing the need for a shop like most modern overworld Sonic games have.

Honestly, if I had to say everything I'd think for a Sonic game (or a Tails game, as it seems to be getting like here), we would be here for HOURS!

Plot Summary:

Once vibrant locations from games, shows, comics, and even fan creations merged into a nightmarish void. Sonic the Hedgehog, beloved hero of the IDW comics, succumbed to the corruption, transforming into a monstrous Dark Sonic. In a desperate act of love and self-sacrifice, Shadow the Hedgehog unleashed a powerful emotional blast, weakening himself and sending him plummeting into the void. Dark Sonic, consumed by darkness, unleashed a cataclysmic blast that birthed this fractured multiverse.

Main Goal

- Find Sonic and restore their shattered world.

- Protect Multi Silver from the Time Guardians.

Key Characters

A mysterious group of Silver the Hedgehogs from various timelines who appear in Multi Silver's dreams, offering cryptic advice and warnings.

The Time Guardians

Enigmatic beings who strive to maintain the integrity of timelines. They view Multi Silver as a threat and relentlessly pursue his erasure.

World Building

Multi’s clothes/appearances will change when they enter certain district to fit the world they are currently in/ all districts will have the songs that they have in their proper game

Advance wrist watch communicators: the multi will be equipped with these, as they act alot like the fallout four pit-boys. They will have the map to all the world and each district (in form of game map), will be able to locate any other Time Anomalies that are in the area, and other chaos energies, give multiples information of the world they are in, and can be used to talk to each other

The Districts

Sonic Adventure District: Blends elements of Station Square, Mystic Ruins, and Prison Island.

Sonic Unleashed District: Divided into a vibrant Daytime area and a twisted Nighttime Werehog zone.

Sonic Colors District: A colorful world reflecting Tropical Resort or Planet Wisp, where Wisp powers are prominent.

Sonic Forces District: A war-torn world overrun by Dr. Eggman.

Sonic 06 District: A fractured and distorted version of Soleanna, constantly glitching between timelines.

Classic District: The combined worlds of classic Sonic games, with a unique corruption.

Exe District: The most dangerous zone, inhabited by monstrous "exe" versions of Sonic characters.

Sonic Riders District: A world focused on Extreme Gear racing, with a darker undercurrent.

Will they succeed? Can love and hope mend the fractured dimensions? Explore the world of Shattered Dimensions and find out!

okay so like i just need to yap yap yap about sonic once again sorry guys 😇

dudeee the fact that mimic is probably gonna pretend to be sonic during the race as the phantom rider (get “usurped” as the synopsis put it ) is fucking crazyyyy. i’m really hoping this will be a long arc and it’ll be just as good as the metal virus arc (one of my faves). this is giving archie sonic vibes as well when they did that sonic the fighters story; like they took an old game and adopted it and it somehow works really well (don’t quote me on that tho i haven’t read very much of archie 😭). oh AND the covers make it even more evident, like how 70 B doesn’t have duo anywhere and 71 B literally has two versions of the phantom rider. i wonder if all of clean sweep inc will make more of a bigger stand as a villainous group or if mimic/duo infiltrating is really their only plan as of right now.

duo being in the race tho does make it a bit harder to believe that this was his doing if he’s supposed to be participating so another theory that i’ve seen floatin around is that it could be infinite (becus phantom ruby… phantom rider… similar names). honestly this would be amazing becus i’ve always adored infinites design and if we got a chance to see him rewritten as an actually good character i would be so fucking ecstatic

The Sonic Mania timeline existing separately from the main timeline has a lot of interesting implications for the series' lore post Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

For example the Sonic Adventure games never happened. Mania Classic Eggman got pulled into main timeline Eggman's scheme with the Time Eater and never found the Echidna tribe tablets and murals about Chaos, so Mania Chaos is still sealed in the Master Emerald with Tikal with all his hatred. Tails hasn't gone through his character arc and grown independent from Sonic, nor has Amy. Knuckles is still ignorant of his people and the mistakes that led to their downfall. And since SA1 didn't happen and Eggman moved onto different plans, that means Shadow is still in stasis on Prison Island, which means he's still got a vendetta against humanity, meaning that he's vulnerable to Black Doom's manipulation when he inevitably shows up, which means he'd probably stay an antagonist. Without Shadow to help fight off the Black Arms, they'd have to find another way to beat them, maybe a team up with Eggman, maybe they rely on the Chaos Emeralds again, maybe both. I imagine part of the story would be uncovering the "mystery" of Project Shadow in the Mania timeline, as no one one know without Eggman being the one to let Shadow loose and things playing out the way they do in SA2.

Without the specific plans failing the way they do, Eggman never gets to the one in Sonic Advance 2, and so he never accidentally puts Vanilla in a capsule, and so they never meet Cream and go on an adventure to save her mom and make her part of the main cast. Without the events of Adventure 2 and Gerald's diary, Eggman never goes looking for the Gizoid, and so they never meet and destroy Emerl, who never influences the design of Gemerl, Battle never happens and without the specific events leading to it, Advance 3 doesn't happen either. Without Cream, Blaze would still come to Sonic's world, but she wouldn't learn to trust in and rely on others, and so likely wouldn't make an ally of Sonic and his friends, so Rush at least plays out differently.

There's nothing specifically preventing the Riders games from playing out mostly as they do in the main timeline, aside from the butterfly effect.

On and on it goes like this. Things get a lot fuzzier around Unleashed, as Eggman's plans would've diverged so much by this point that it's unlikely that he splits the planet and awakens Dark Gaia, so Sonic never meets Chip, never turns into the Werehog, and Unleashed as a whole doesn't happen. After that, there's nothing specifically leading Eggman in search of power off world to find the wisps, and he's already tried and failed to use the Phantom Ruby for his plans in Mania. He probably won't find the Starfall Islands, and The End probably stays trapped.

Already things are diverging as of Sonic Superstars, a plot that doesn't happen at all in the main timeline.
