The Graduating Class Of [XXX]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wilbert Phlegm (5'5 ft), Inkwell Bubbles (4'8 ft), and Amber Phalanx (6'5 ft)
Each are bestowed three mox crystals upon their clothes or as accessories, alongside the fourth that tips their hats.
For Wilbert, one points each of the ends of his cardigan (third not pictured, as the third point is the back).
For Inky, one sits around his throat as the connector for his cape, and the other two hang from a wrap around their tail.
For Amber, two are earrings, and the third tips the butt of her spear.
Some other notes for my interpretations of the three mages:
Amber has metal bones, and she has pieces of armor that rise above her skin (that are also part of her skeleton). Such as her visor. She has shin and arm guards, and as consequence for her metal bones, she is very inflexible. The cartilage in her body is also mildly affected, making her joints stiff.
Inky uses they/he
Inky is also a member of my original species, the kimblie, and has a mark on his forehead (three black bubbles) but because it's black on black, it blends in.
Wilbert's hair is naturally green. In opposite to Amber, he's hyperflexible and has some issues with joints popping out of their sockets.
Inky is kind of the mid-point in flexibility, but also the only one that does anything with it. They're a menace that can crawl into many spaces and a bit of an escape artist.
Each has a focus on an 'element' alongside with magic that intersects with their interests.
Wilbert has earth, Inky has water, Amber has fire.
Wilbert can pull the concept of colors out of things and swap them around, or mix em together, but can't make new ones. He's an avid artist.
His hair might be green because he put green in it or maybe he was born like that. You'll never know.
Amber has a combat focus, and can create physical planes using fire and other plasma. It's kinda trippy.
Inky however-- water IS their interest, and as such can do the most creative things with their magic. Turns into water, can teleport between puddles, can breathe in water, can--
Love these guys. :]
I've essentially converted them into a new file format (into my original universe whoopsies) rather than kept them as Inscryption characters... But hey. It's fun and I'm playing with dolls.

I really like interpretations of Magnificus' students before he did the shit he did so I whipped up my own! These are very head-canon heavy and probably go against some sorta lore so take alla this whith a pinch of salt.
I have in-dept explanations under the cut :>
The Belothed Dress-Code
I like to think Magnificus has a bit of a dress code for his students. He wouldn't be too strict but the main theme is typical hat robe boot combo and everything being oversized. Opinions on this code varies between students.
Sapphire Mage
Known as The Lonely Wizard in-game, I like to think that they are the most focused and grounded out of the students. I've writen the student's old personalities based off of their trial, so I decided Sapphire would be the busiest of the three- always up to something, whether training magic, finding a new hobby or finding someone to bother. Sapphire is the student who was trained by Magnificus the longest, so he is the closest to him as well as being the student who excels in card magic the most. The other two turn to them for advice. Think of them as the older sibling type.
For their design they change the least from their canon design. They're the only one to keep their robes long, only adding gloves and dangly moxes to their hat to fiddle with. I wanted them to look the 'neatest' out of the three.
Ruby Mage/ Amber
Known as The Piked Wizard in-game, I like to think she's the strongest physically as well as the most social with the other scrybes and their residents. Amber is the most exciteable and bold of the three pre-trial. She started her training just before Goobert, and because of that is a little closer to him then she is to Sapphire.
For Amber's design I wanted her to challenge the dress code the most out of the three, keeping her sleeves short and ripping off the trail of her robes (she tripped one too many times). I added the most accessories to her, including a chestplate, knee/elbow pads and laced boots. I gave her shorter hair as well. She is the tallest of the three. (I designed her before I learned Lonely is canonically 7'0+, and I'm not sure what to with that information.)
Emerald Mage
Known as Goobert or The Goo Mage in-game, I like to think he's the least experienced of the three in magic. There isn't a lot to say here, as he acts the most like his canon personality.
Emerald was a tough character to design. I latched onto how Goobert spesifies he was 'turned into goo' for his trial and I haven't seen any non-goo designs for him yet. @lego-block-man helped a LOT by suggesting a wyrven for his deisgn (though I settled on a dragon because i'm not creative enough BEFWBJEAVNF). I'm still a little uneasy about this design straying so far from canon but I still love it none the less. I wanted his interests in creative hobbies to show in his design, so I gave him a self-tailored hem for their robes as well as their sleves being pinned up and out of the way. He also wears velcro boots.

I’m guessing the others have theirs behind their own thrones? What’s in the decks, everyone?
[Indeed, behind Grimora's throne is a pack with a zombie-like hand image, and behind P03's is a pack depicting various machinery, and a smaller pack behind Leshy's throne, with the image of a wolf]
[In the Magick card pack, there is a bundle of Emerald, Ruby, and Sapphire Mox cards, as well as a few Mage Pupils, Juinor Sages, Mage Knights, Blue Mages, and a single Orlu's Mox]
[In the Beast card pack, there is another Stoat, Adder, and Hawk, along with a couple Warren, and the illustrious Ourobouros]
[In the Death card pack, there is a bundle of Skeletons, with a few Draugr, Gravediggers, Zombies, with two Frank & Steins, and one Necromancer]
[And finally, in the Technology card pack, we have a few L33pB0ts, with 49ers, Automatons, Thick Droids, Steambots, and a Shutterbug]
[Each scrybe now has a full deck, twenty cards each. Seems like the perfect time for a test run, doesn't it?]

Gotta share these doodles here cause they're fun.
Blank Canvas is Unfinished Boss, yeah.
Drew Stim Mage cause I find the Mox/Energy card neat! Great concept as well with a mage having loads of power cells. Also drew Force Mage which I visualize having this Medusa-like ability due to having the sigil that makes the opposing card unable to attack it.
I always saw Pike as a knight ever since I checked out the Mox deck and saw Knight Mage(?) And went "hmmm, I wanna draw Pike in knight armor now". The way her armor looks is cause I used the Ruby Golems as reference, ya know, since she's using Orange Mox.

Okay so do you have a favorite Mox card
It can be based on anything from actual stats/sigils to just the cards design but do you have a favorite (I really like the ruby golem but skelemagus is also fun)
Tumblr media
stim mage!! i like its design a lot. i havent gotten experience the magick deck enough to really say something about mox cards yet though from a gameplay standpoint. and if i can pick a card from act III - i also really like the gembound ripper. it is shapely! and lethal. but many-armed 💚

(If I may, I’m the anon that made the ask about the things that could be added to the desert DLC, and I’d like to make an oc that would become Magnificus apprentice ^^’ You don’t have to read this submission, and it will probably be trash since english is not my mother tongue, but I’d like to try and share something. That is all, thank you if you take the time to read this, and thank you for your hard work on this blog, the way you represent each scrybe is quite fitting I think, and you managed to make them all endearing in their own way, even Magnificus, who must be quite hard to be made likeable.)
“Such a creative mind…”
“I would be honoured to have you as my third and final new student.”
These words echoed in the wanderer’s mind. They had called many places “home”, but a person to call their teacher would be new. A scrybe, no less…
And despite their great admiration for the Scrybe of Magicks, they still felt intimidated, and wondered if becoming his student would be the right thing to do. Despite having traveled the world, exploring lands of death, wilderness, tempered steel and ominous mox, they still knew very little about Magnificus, and heard terrible things about what happened to his previous students. Yet…
He also heard the fact that Grimora opposed him. Surely, this would happen again if the scrybe was to put them to the test once more ?
The wanderer sighed. What took over them to make such a preposterous proposition ? They had the rare occasion to talk to the scrybe, took it, and panicked, as they always do. Such an idiot…
But hearing Magnificus praise their mind was a wonderful thing to be sure. All of the scrybes were admirable, but Magnificus was the most mysterious, the one that seemed less likely to give compliments…
They looked at their deck. Some energy cards, a lot of ruby moxes, and mages. They had traveled the lands of each scrybe, but since the bridge had been broken, they had been stuck on part of the island, and had time to make a deck. In any case, they had moxes… Therefore, the most logical step would be to…
The door opened in front of them, and their blood froze. They got lost in thought as they walked, and stumbled upon the tower of Magnificus. Time was up, and the scrybe stood before them.
Time to make a choice…
  “I… I am ready, Master Magnificus !”

It was his laugh, head thrown back, curls falling back from his forehead, white teeth bared in a grin, it was Marda thinking oh, no, and gripping the railing with white knuckles. ~ marda & mattias, the eingard series verse
He didn’t think someone like Lem existed, someone who smiled fondly when they looked at him like he was normal. ~ mox & lem, tales of the mages of meadowbury
Leon may not look threatening, but the man who could rein in James Boyd and come out unscathed…that kind of power was not to be trifled with. ~ leon and boyd, from my other nano contender, the hubburn heist
“Then tell him. If I can do something as impossible as loving her, Isos can do something as simple as loving you. For Rhouth’s sake, man, don’t mess this up.”
 “I won’t,” he vowed. “I won’t.” ~ isos & chari, pawns, peace and a princess
and finally, one of my personal favorites
“Marda, I couldn’t take my heart out of your hands if I tried. I am yours, unequivocally, unconditionally, eternally.” ~ marda & mattias, the eingard series verse

Mox Gemstones
Minor Artifacts
Aura: Overwhelming various
CL: 20th
Weight: ---
Slot: Neck
These five small, powerful stones were sought after sources of infinite magical power. Using specialized clockwork devices, mages could extract immense amounts of arcane energy to fuel both themselves and their other creations. The wells of power within each of the Moxen were at one point believed to be endless, but the truth of the matter was much different; each Mox possessed a mind-boggling amount of energy, but that was energy built up very slowly over the course of thousands of years. Once completely tapped, it would take even longer for those wells to fill back up to meaningful levels.
As the Moxen went dry one by one, the inventors and casters that once sought after them declared them all but useless. The rate they generated magic was much too slow for their initial founders to continue bothering with, though they’re far from the worthless trinkets that they were dismissed as. They may no longer be able to fuel amazing magical machines, but in the hands of an arcane caster, they can prove to be infinitely valuable; certainly valuable enough to fight for.
Moxen slowly gather charge. Each day, the Mox collects a single charge point (when located, they possess 1d10+10 charges unless they’re already being used). An arcane caster, during a minor ritual that takes five minutes to perform, may hold the Mox to their head to tap into that well of power and spend one or more charge points. For each charge point, the wearer regains one spell slot of 1st level (if spontaneous) or recalls one 1st level spell already cast that day (if prepared). Moxen may be tapped into any number of times each day so long as they possess enough charge points to work.
In addition to the above, each Mox is attuned to a different school of magic (not every school, as you will note). Depending on the Mox, charge points may be spent differently: charge points may be spent to regain higher spell levels at a rate of 2 points/spell level. I.e., with the Ruby Mox, the wearer may spend 10 charge points to regain or recall a single level 5 Evocation spell, rather than five level 1 spells of any other school. Moxen cannot be used to recall Universal spells, nor can spell slots regained with Mox be used to cast Universal magic. The five Moxen and their associated schools are:
Ruby Mox: Evocation.
Sapphire Mox: Illusion.
Jet Mox: Conjuration.
Emerald Mox: Transmutation.
Pearl Mox: Abjuration.
Destruction: Moxen are powerful and potentially incredibly valuable artifacts, and while they possess some reinforcement from their inner magical well, they are simply well-cut gemstones and must be handled as such. They possess a hardness of 5 and 20 hitpoints, and though they are immune to acid, fire, and cold damage, they can be destroyed with regular force. When destroyed in this way, though, their inner magical charge explodes outwards, dealing 2d6 damage to everything within 30 feet per charge point still within upon destruction. At the DM’s discretion, the inner arcane energy may instead take the shape of different spells of the Mox’s associated school, cast randomly in the 30-foot area.

told you I was on my melter nonsense- =w= I'm so happy how he came out
LORE TIME! HEAVY SPOILERS FOR THE PS5 UPDATE so in the superhero au Melter and Jimmy/James are the same person I took a lot of inspo from moon knight- but instead of the super cool troubled persona being the OG it's reversed where the dorky goody boy is the og. in this James was a pupil of Magnificus but Magnificus saw great evil in him. but convinced he could still save the child he pressed forward with the exam. but soon realized the exam would lead to the great evil that his premonitions warned about. he would soon "donate" James to the mycologist masking it as his exam when he really was trying to get rid of him. The mycologist would perform twisted experiments on him now with the new tech, thanks to the new scrybe P03. making the poor boy 75% robot. leaving his lungs [for his power] and his head another experiment the mycologist was to try and get him to kill. James was a pacifist not wanting to hurt anyone which was a problem if he wanted to be a ruby mage. so to "fix" him the mycologists would put him under shock therapy to try and were him down and get him to kill. eventually, it would work but only because of James having a psychotic break causing him to slip into a form of alter ego with no memories or name. who was willing to kill on demand and for fun. magnificus finding this out would want nothing to do with him and shipped him off to p03 who was a new scybe at the time and needed lackeys. to where P03 made him the melter and he would go by the nickname Mel. there is more lore. like his "spicey asma" and how the mox gems work in this AU specifically but I'm lazy so . . . another time another day.

trapper would you kiss someone the same gender as you
"I'll kiss anybody if it tastes good, sweetheart."
"EW!"
[The Trapper simply chuckles. And the fight begins]
[The Trapper starts slow, with a simple bullfrog. 1 damage to Magnificus]
[Magnificus starts stronger. Playing both his Mox cards, and a Mage Pupil. 1 damage to the Trapper]
[The Ruby Mox falls, and then... The Trapper plays his Raven. Magnificus has no defense. 3 damage. 5 damage. 7 damage]
[Magnificus's cards crumble]
[And terror settles in his eyes, as he looks up at the Trapper's grinning face]
"You're not cut out for trapping... You're better as prey."
