Hi love!

So, this is the fic I’m writing right now. I’ve wanted to write something emotionally complex for quite a long time, but I never had the guts to go for it. Then, I read My Policeman, and I felt so inspired by how it was really a story of humans coping with the imperfections of life and love, and I wanted something like that for a Larry fic, too.

This is my baby, and my first foray into something a little “off-brand” for me. Snippet under the cut. 💜

🛰 Round and Round, Satellite

Three heartbeats. Four breaths. Five words.

“I’m very sorry, Mr. Tomlinson.”

Apparently, that was all the fanfare a person got, before their world completely shattered around them.

Harry blinked, trying to make sense of the doctor’s words – to understand, or even just hear them – but he couldn’t. Everything around him suddenly felt entirely surreal and intangible; everything except the slow, heavy pain that had begun to seep, like thick molasses, through the edges of his heart.

The pain was real – really fucking real – and so was Louis.

Every time he tried to speak, Harry could only hear the way his lungs were struggling to take in air, each muffled gasp a desperate plea for help until all Harry could do was pull Louis’ shaking body to him, to hold him steady against his chest.

He felt it, the moment Louis let himself collapse, his quiet sobs slowly morphing – turning ragged, then pained, then angry. With each desperate curl of his fist into the fabric of Harry’s shirt, Harry only held him tighter, and tighter, and tighter, as though his solidness could somehow save Louis, keep him tethered, or at the very least shield him from the rest of the world; give him some privacy as a part of his heart slowly died.

And, like some sort of sick, spiteful, cosmic lesson, Harry’s mind went straight to the last time he’d convinced himself he’d already faced the pinnacle of heartache.

“Love,” his mother had sighed heavily, pressing a kiss to Harry’s curls as he had sobbed helplessly into her shoulder, not two days after watching the love of his life choose someone else, forever. “It really is just luck and timing, innit?”

Harry had foolishly thought that was it. Naive and utterly self-centered, he’d thought that watching the person he loved most in the world marry someone else had been life’s ultimate and most unbearable form of heartbreak. But, as it turns out, life’s most unbearable form of heartbreak was this – watching the person he loved most in the world lose his person, forever.

“Daniel…” Louis whimpered brokenly into Harry’s chest, the pain in his voice making the truth of their horrible reality inescapable.

‘Love. It really is just luck and timing, innit?’

Only then did it occur to Harry that his mum had never specified what kind of luck she’d meant.
