I love this band. Two of them wrote the soundtrack for Stranger Things and you can hear the Tangerine Dream influence.

5 DISCHI IMMANCABILI PER LA NOTTE DI HALLOWEEN #01

La notte più macabra dell’anno è alle porte. Tra gli amanti della ricorrenza con alcune delle più interessanti tradizioni popolari c’è chi la celebrerà in grande partecipando a qualche festa in maschera o chi la passerà nell’intimità della propria casa con una piccola compagnia. Ad ogni modo, ognuno ha le sue maniere per prendere parte alla festa del 31 ottobre e tra un travestimento ed un altro, uno scherzo e qualche strano dolciume, ci sarà sicuramente spazio per la musica - e non una qualsiasi. Se volete sentirvi a pieno dentro l’atmosfera di Halloween questi sono cinque dischi a tema che dovete assolutamente ascoltare.

5. S U R V I V E - RR7349 (Relapse Records, 2016)

Per farvi venire i brividi non c’è niente di meglio dell’elettronica minimale dei S U R V I V E. Forse li conoscete più di quanto pensate, infatti due dei quattro componenti, Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein, sono i compositori delle premiate colonne sonore della serie marcata Netflix “Stranger Things”. Nel terzo disco RR7349 il gruppo continua la ricerca del loro suono elettronico dai tratti oscuri e inquietanti attraverso l’inconfondibile sapore senza tempo degli strumenti analogici. Ascoltare questo disco significa farsi proiettare in uno scenario cinematografico tra i vecchi horror ed i nuovi sci-fi, ambientato in una fredda notte d’autunno nella radura umida e nebulosa, popolata da animali notturni e chissà quali altre creature, oltre la quale si erge una spaventosa casa illuminata da pulsanti luci verdi. Raccontatevi storie macabre a lume di candela mentre in sottofondo suonano i synth sinistri dei S U R V I V E. 

4. Sevdaliza - Ison (Twisted Elegance, 2017)

Pop, ma sicuramente trasversale e prontamente poco rassicurante è quello di Sevdaliza nel suo debutto Ison. Suggestionante senza essere blandamente esoterico, grazie ad una bellissima fusione col trip-hop, il disco converge energie opposte e contrastanti per dare vita a misteriose simulazioni di identità e fantasie difficilmente distinguibili dalla realtà. I brani giocano con la percezione e disorientano i sensi, li alterano, parlano di umanità - della forma tangibile e intangibile - con una visceralità che porta ad estraniare il corpo dal non-corpo che rimane un timido e sudato guscio, vulnerabile e irriconoscibile, forse proprio per questo terrificante. 

3. Marilyn Manson - The Pale Emperor (Hell, etc., 2015)

Non è Halloween senza Marilyn Manson, il controverso e grottesco “Antichrist Superstar” della musica che a suon di alternative rock potrebbe scaldare abbastanza l’atmosfera. Qualunque album della sua discografia sarebbe stato appropriato e stavolta la scelta ricade su uno dei più recenti, The Pale Emperor, e dato che significa letteralmente “l’impero dei pallidi”, richiamando inevitabilmente le creature soprannaturali protagoniste di molte leggende di Halloween, a maggior ragione non possiamo sbagliare.

2. Massive Attack - Mezzanine (Virgin Records, 1998)

Sarà scontato, ma anche i Massive Attack sono immancabili, il duo che attraverso l’elaborazione in chiave trip-hop di atmosfere misteriose, ipnotiche e ritualistiche ha segnato un bellissimo momento di rigenerazione musicale. Il loro capolavoro Mezzanine del 1998 è forse il più animalistico e scuro, travolgente di sensualità e pieno di una spiritualità anticonvenzionale che riporta in mente immagini di figure tra il sacro ed il profano come mai le avete potute immaginare.

1. Crystal Castles - (II) (Polydor, 2010)

Nel secondo album, (II), il duo Crystal Castles nella sua formazione più famosa - quella formata da Ethan Kath e Alice Glass - perfeziona la formula vincente di elettronica e voce estremamente lo-fi, dalle influenze eclettiche rielaborate secondo una decostruzione inafferrabile dove alla base c’è la distorsione del suono a livello della musica noise, ma con una fruibilità inspiegabilmente pop. Il risultato è un agglomerato difficilmente definibile, forse synth-punk per la sua natura rudimentale e l’estetica o, usando un termine più particolare, witch house per la sensazione di oscurità ed inquietudine di fondo che emergono soprattutto dalla voce sofferente di Glass. Il loro è un caos disperato dove si percepiscono atmosfere ed emozioni forti, forse troppo per essere espresse chiaramente.

Ship in a Bottle by Fin- it’s five minutes long but it doesn’t even feel like it, best song to imagine stories to. Many emotions :,-)

Dead by They Might be Giants- same peeps who wrote Istanbul (Not Constantinople), they’re actually from the same album called Flood. Funky songs where the main thing they have in common is awesome lyrics that are heavy metaphors for something.

Summerland by Half•Alive- it somehow captured that feeling of the first summer you could go out on your own and be with friends. And if you love dance choreography I recommend their music videos like Still feel.

Sunglasses at night (Jean Jacket Mix) from the NOPE movie soundtrack.- listen listen, I heard it in the movie and was overjoyed there was a full version. But it is like the definition of slow reverb edits haha

Cutthroat by S U R V I V E- An electronic song made by the same people who did the stranger things soundtrack. If you love electro I 100% recommend their album RR7349

Glitter by Daisy the Great- found this song while watching Moon Knight and I will forever associate it with that. Amazing song, the artists recently came out with a new album.

Betty Boop with Charlie Puth the remix - Electro swing, it’s just really fun to jam to :-)

Watching IT last night definitely got me hyped up for the upcoming second season of Stranger Things. Survive - the Austin band featuring “Stranger Things” composers Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein- will release a new remix EP called “RR7387″ which features four remixes of tracks from the band’s 2016 studio album “RR7349″. We’ve already heard Lena Willikens’ remix of “Cutthroat” and today the band shares “Other”, reshaped by Godflesh and Jesu’s mastermind Justin K Broadrick also known as JK FLESH. I really like electronic music and a genre I stumbled upon a little while ago takes a lot of influence from 80s horror. Some producers/artists even identify what they create as “electrohorror”. A big indicator of how this genre is characterized by 80s horror are the synths! Above is one of my favorite tracks! Its a track by an Italian group called Crypt Vapor. Another producer that I feel like takes this genre in a more literal sense is Perturbator. This producer includes what would seem like clips of dialog from horror films.
