It was a warm afternoon as you got your scuba gear on, preparing to dive in the depths of Fontaine on a mission to look for flowers for your beloved boyfriend, Lyney’s, magic show tonight. You latched in your helmet and dove below the surface, sighing in satisfaction at the cool water enveloping your body after having been sweating all day. The fish danced around you happily and the rays flapped their wings gracefully on their way to find places to float around.

You reached the seabed, swimming around and beginning to collect the flowers that your boyfriend had requested. You stop after a few seconds to listen to a sound you could not initially identify. Listening closely, you follow the sounds of what seem to be sniffles over a ridge of sand. Peeking over the edge, you see a little blue form with a diving helmet on, balled up with his head in the pit of his elbow.

“Freminet?” You swam up to the form, recognizing Lyney’s younger brother, a sad expression on the screen of your diving helmet. You begin to rub circles into his back as he sniffles, embarrassed to have been found crying alone. “What happened?” You offer him a warm smile, encouraging him to confide in you.

“*Sniff* I- I made a fool of myself in the Court of Fontaine today… I- *sniff* I fell and dropped a whole basket of peaches…” Taking pity on him, you ask him if he wants a hug, then you pull him into your arms and rub comforting circles on his back.

“Wanna go back up? I’ll walk you home.” The boy nods and you swim back up with him in your arms.

Arriving on the beach, you take off his diving helmet and reveal his red, puffy eyes. You internally coo at how cute he looks but remember that he is in a vulnerable state and mentioning what he looks like would likely not be appropriate at the moment. So, after cupping a comforting hand on his cheek, you take his hand and walk him home.

Arriving at the triplets’ door (I know they aren’t all related, but for simplicity’s sake…), you knock and wait for the light pads from inside to reach you. The door swings open to reveal Lyney in his pajamas with a surprised expression.

“Y-Y/n! And Freminet!” He blushes slightly at having noticed you before his own younger brother and at having been seen in pajamas by someone he has been trying to impress. Lyney steps out onto the porch and closes the door behind him.

“Uh… Thanks for taking my brother home. He can disappear better than myself, sometimes…” He rubs the back of his neck, a little embarrassed at the situation. You had only declared each other officially boyfriends about a month prior, so the whole relationship thing was a new concept to the ‘suave’ Lyney the public knew. It pleasantly surprised you to discover that he was actually very easy to fluster, making for a very cute boyfriend to tease occasionally.

“Yeah, no problem. I found him on the seabed crying while I was looking for your flowers, so I comforted him and brought him here. Oh, here you go by the way.” You hand him the flowers he needed for his show while smiling warmly at him. March 1st, 2025 - DJMAX RESPECT V, ProSeka, Arcaea, SDVX IV, PIU 2024 PHOENIX, jubeat festo

quick post before i head out to the arcade again: was minding my business and grinding out a new tetris sprint record for myself (finally got sub-50 today!!) when i suddenly realized... the DJMAX season pass was ending soon!!! panicked, i asked my good buddy ol friend pal Zolder about it and he actually offered to play some DJMAX with me to hopefully get through most of the pass!!! i happily obliged and got to playing random 6B/4B SCs, and it was honestly kind of a blast!!! got some good scores but was still utterly destroyed by him (which is why there's so few screenshots to show) but hey!! finally got an FC on Tic! Tac! Toe! [6BSC 9*]!!!

a quick proseka score (re-AP on Yoidore Shirazu [Master Lv.28]) before i made my way out to the bus and onto the arcade...

...and now, time for the true arcade day!!! finally arrived at the place where i would Gaming for the day, but it seems i arrived a bit too early as the entrance was still locked... so i played arcaea for a bit and got this challenge score rq (rip PM :v)

but suddenly, the door was open and i was able to hop in for some gaming!!! i know, i know, all i've played today so far were hand games (tetris included), but i wanted to warm up and wake up my rhythmic senses before i hopped into the more physical dance games, and so i went about that with some SDVX!!! just one set, sure, but there were some decent scores for a noteskin and frame rate that were impossible to read!!! (seriously, i don't know how anyone played this game at a top level back before VW... it's So Bad !!! ah well i got my volforce class up (to ???), so all's well that ends well :]

but NOW!!! it was time for the dancing gameys :] i was really pumped up for this game and set, but severely overestimating my ability after only physically warming up with a D16 (nice score tho), i kinda fumbled everything afterward and started feeling demotivated :[ so to lift my spirits and mayhaps warm myself up a bit more, my little completionist 100% brain fired up and decided on my next dance game target: TITLES!!! specifically the titles that required you to clear certain charts with an SSS or higher to get a skill title (e.g. Half, Gimmick, Run, Twist, etc.) . i wasn't confident at all that i could get some of the higher titles right now, but that didn't matter because i still had to get the lower titles (lv.1-4) first!!! and that's exactly what i did!!! i started with Half, which led me to get a sweet SSS on Mopemope D17 (hard as hell btw) followed by a sweeter SSS (and Superb Game!) on Butterfly D17 to get Half Lv.1 and Lv.2! then i moved on to gimmick (ig half was a bit too much for me...) to knock out some charts below the Gimmick Lv.4 title i already had, which led to getting PERFECT GAME SSS+ on both Yeo rae a S13 and Ugly Dee S17!!!

alright NOW i felt confident in my pumping skill, and in secret between these title sets i've been trying 21s until something clicked... and it did!!! all of a sudden, amidst all the scoring warmups and gimmick perfects, i got a sweet new AAA TG on Paradoxx - SHORT CUT - S21!!! and they just kept on rolling in after that Ugly Dee score, as i then got a sightread AA+ on Darkside Of The Mind D21, an upscore to AAA+ on Cygnus D21, and perhaps most shockingly... an AA on Extravaganza D21!!!

i wanted to get more, but i was satisfied enough after that last clear to head on and about my way for the day, so i did just that ! however, the bus wasn't coming for a few more minutes, so i dedicated my last set of the day to a quick jubeat sesh where i got a sightread S on Got more raves? [Advanced 7] (with an admittedly poor Owl noteskin) and then a re-clear on AIR RAID FROM THA UNDAGROUND [Advanced 9.7] before i went back home to celebrate my cousin's birthday!!!

I'm a little late to the game, but I saw a few people pointing out Splinter doing the same thing (they're right btw) and that made me wanna geek out over this rq-

Everyone was surprised by Splinter's unwillingness to use the retro-mutagen before Kirby, but the manner in which he went about rejecting the vial shocked Donnie, even visibly saddened him a little.

Sure, their father isn't the most expressive guy out there, and he's not wrong to prioritize Kirby considering the situation, but was he not excited by this opportunity?

Even though he unexpectedly received a reaction from Splinter that was less than thrilling, Donnie was still proud of his major scientific breakthrough and was ready to give Splinter something he believed he desired to regain after all of these years. When his plan goes awry as a result of outside forces beyond his control, he's more dispirited than anyone by the loss of half of his retro-mutagen. But after hearing Leo's recount of what happened, Splinter readily reassures him by pointing out the obvious fact that Kirby's mind isn't stable. The only shred of humanity left in him is how he's able to recognize April; other than that, he can't properly communicate with anyone and continuously exhibits more behaviors not unlike a bat.

Keeping that comparison in mind leads to the simple conclusion that Kirby needs this more than Splinter.

Choosing Kirby over his own father is one of the last things he wants to do, made all the more apparent by how hesitant he was to rush back out with the second vial despite April being kidnapped, but Donnie stood little chance of changing Splinter's mind in such a critical moment. Though he remains silent as he nods in agreement with Splinter's decision, we already know the problem's going to dwell on the kid's mind, and his extremely shortlived look of confidence is all the confirmation we need.

He starts to make a vow to Splinter near the end of the episode, clearly determined to throw himself back into the groove and make more retro-mutagen regardless of everything working out in their favor, only to be cut off and reassured one last time that there's no need to do anything.

At least we think that's the last time.

Come two years later, issues 13 & 14 of the Amazing Adventures series reveal that he still wanted to turn Splinter back into a human even after being told not to concern himself with doing so anymore.

Obviously the comics aren't always canonical depictions of what happens outside of the realm of the TV series, and this wasn't a focal point of the plot from these two issues, but having something like this inserted is an obvious nod to the idea that Donnie never moved past his desire to help Splinter. He even repeats himself when Karai is accidentally mutated, working tirelessly to develop retro-mutagen that'll finally work on her and give Splinter a piece of his life that was mercilessly taken from him.

That smile he gave, sentimental as it seemed, was just yet another brave face.

And Splinter's in the same boat.

He's astonished by Donnie's revelation, and is very likely considering the gravity of accepting such a tempting offer, but he quickly puts a lid over it after thinking of the other person this miracle was made for.

In Panic in the Sewers, he didn't let on how terrified he was by his sons crossing paths with the Shredder again, instead taking on the role of a stern teacher lecturing their students for not treating the situation seriously (and they sometimes don't, let's be real). The boys may be confused by his behavior, but we as the audience are immediately clued in on why he's behaving this way. The episode opens up with a horrific nightmare where each of the turtles are attacked by the Shredder, cleverly disguised as Leo's nightmare until we're met with Splinter snapping himself awake.

Fortunately, he comes around after realizing he should've been honest with them instead of working them up, but that's just one of many instances where he instinctively puts up a facade to hide how he feels in the moment.

I mention this in many posts about Splinter, namely my long post about his humanity, but the boys know he misses his old life more than he tends to let on. There's a discernable layer of despondency to his tone whenever he brings up Tang Shen or Miwa, and an undeniable air of regret and "what could've been" rushes into the room the moment he speaks of how close he and Saki used to be. Becoming a human won't undo the past, nor can it truly mend his broken relationships with Karai and Saki, or give him a place in the human world after so much time has gone by without him there. So what would he gain from being human other than, well, being human?

The introduction of the Rat King is where everyone finally starts to wonder what the answer to that question would be, and it's no coincidence that this episode and Donnie's plan for Splinter's dilemma comes after the Rat King's second appearance.

Splinter's attacks on April and the turtles in I, Monster were more controlled and calculated, evidence of Falco simply wanting to turn him into a soldier of his own. In Of Rats and Men however, Falco takes full advantage of the fact that Splinter is a rat and, for a moment there, has him mindlessly go after his family with erratic attacks no different from a rat. As personal as the first incident felt, the second incident holds more weight due to the fact that the Rat King had the power to overtake Splinter again, undeterred by the "solution" Splinter found to fight him off last time.

Maybe Donnie figured that Splinter would be more at peace without Falco's mind controlling ghost hovering somewhere over his shoulders, or (more likely) that Splinter would genuinely be happier once he finally had something from his past returned to him after watching everything that happened to him so far in S2. Either way, when Donnie expresses his remorse for not having enough retro-mutagen, Splinter is quick to assuage his guilt.

Regardless of how he feels about becoming human again, this mission takes priority, and his mental battles with Falco were eye openers to the reality that he's much better off than some of the human-turned-mutants they know. Kirby doesn't deserve to lose his sense of self.

Splinter seems resolute as he relays a shortened version of that information to Donnie, and his expression sticks as he watches his son leave.

But all of a sudden, Splinter allows himself to be vulnerable in Donnie's absence and pulls out the only family portrait he retains from his days as a human.

And we see that brave face already having melted away as his ears drop.

It's an indisputable truth that Splinter misses what he had as a human, but he would never allow the boys to believe they need to go the extra mile to satiate his longing for something he'd long since accepted never having again. And putting on a brave face is, to him, the best way to send that message.
