I'm usually not a fan of explaining the origin of thing that don't really need an explanation but I do like the backstory to why all of Geralt's horses are called Roach.

- But how is that, a witcher on a mare instead of a stallion? How dishonorable. What? That's the least of your problems? Ha, the client is our lord, he wants a mare, he's got a mare. But, hehe, my lord witcher, horses are like fish. I offer you thoroughbred stallions like they're big pikes, and you go and choose a little roach. What are you laughing at? A snippet of the new Witcher novel that has been released in a PL fantasy magazine. In polish of course, but I thought the international fans should have a glimpse at the upcoming book too :) (and quickly!) So here is the translation. Enjoy xxx

Damn, I mean, I knew some of Sapkowski's views in previous books were based as hell but wow grandpapi dropped a based pro-choice bomb in the new one. I don't want to share any spoilers or anything but as a woman living in Poland there's one scene in this new book that hits so close to home and it's validating to read a character say something like: 'we'll continue to bring medical help to women whether anyone likes it or not'.

So, the first bit of the new Witcher book by Andrzej Sapkowski was published in Nowa Fantastyka. The book will be available in a week. I'm quite optimistic, since the book is going to be about young Geralt from what I've seen. I was afraid the new book would be just set in the Witcher world but telling some stories of side characters, or perhaps completely new ones. I'm glad it's Geralt.

So for now I'm waiting to buy "Rozdroże kruków" ("The Crossroads of Ravens" or "Ravens Crossroads", I don't know what the official translation ia going to be)

Spoilers under the cut concerning the bit published in the magazine. You've been warned.

Obviously there is not much to say after reading three pages in a magazine, but the story picks after an event Geralt recalls in one part of The Voice of Reason, when he monologues to Iola and talks about his first monster (the guy who tried to rape a girl). The bit in the zine picks directly after this. Im all for reading about young Geralt confrontinv what he learned with the reality.

i did purchase the book and planning to slowly read it via google translate/deepL :) really enjoying the excepts nimue have shared <3 some new km/witcher lore too so i'd say it's worth buying if you're too impatient to wait for an eng translation ahaha

it will take me a week to read one page but you know with a bit of luck I'll have finish it when the french translation will be out x)

So I just finished reading the newest Witcher book ("The Crossroad Of Ravens"/ "Rozdroże Kruków")... and while it's not as fascinating as the other books so many of us know and love... I still must admit I LOVE the young (18-ish) Geralt 😂 He's just such a lovely, inexperienced greenhorn!

So here's a quick fanart heavily based (identical, actually, minus the wound, I just HAD to draw some red life juice) on one of his first fights with monsters. Cute as heck witchy-witchy.
