    “    my brother and i have found him.   AND WE’RE ABOUT TO LEAVE TO GET HIM.    ”        she hoped her words were soothing.   worked to ease the pain.     (  …   WHILST HER OWN STILL FLARED TO LIFE.  )              “    you are staying here and controlling the pack   .  .  .  .    no arguments  !!  ”   she makes sure there is some force in her tone as she speaks.   knowing  he would argue with her.   and if she was honest she understood it.   BUT THIS WAS HER STANCE.

   “    i promise Roy.    I’LL BRING HIM HOME.   we’ll both come home.    ”        what she wasn’t saying was she knew who had Rex.   who the demon was that was hurting him.     (  …   AND HAD HURT HER FAR TOO MANY TIMES.  )        but this was her fight.   and nothing,   not even her father,   would stop her from getting her love home.    she had too.    FOR THEIR FUTURE.

He couldn’t stand just doing nothing, waiting helplessly as his son was out somewhere - God knows what was happening to him. In the name of honor, he couldn’t go against the orders he had been given, but damn it to Hell if Roy Howard wouldn’t snap at any moment if something didn’t change and soon. That’s what was going through his mind as he stood by his wife, Carolyn’s embrace around him being the only real thing that kept him from storming off. Steel blues - like that of his son’s - stared intensely at Melitta as she spoke, his heart pounding in his throat. There should have been some relief - he felt the weight of his wife shift as they were finally given some good news - but Roy couldn’t let himself feel any comfort, not until his son was home. In his tragic absence, the former Alpha had done a lot of thinking - the constant state of worry gnawing at his mind as he couldn’t stop himself from fearing the worse. In this time, he came to some conclusions - revelations that he hoped had not been too late.

There was no verbal response from him, he could only nod as he drew his beloved in closer, hugging her tight.

MEANWHILE...

Footsteps stirred him awake, a form appearing in his hazy vision. He growled, through it was weak and raspy. Pain once again grasped him as he was backhanded across the face, his head throbbing and a ringing sounded off in his ears. Though frail and sickly, Rex continued to resist his assailant, spitting globules of bloody saliva at the man’s feet.

Connections; Rex

Roy Howard: Roy Howard is Rex’s father and the Alpha of their pack. Roy’s great-grandfather first founded the settlement in Alberta, Canada where the Howard’s reside in the woods, crowning himself as the leader and passing down the title to his direct descendants. Roy upholds tradition, training and mentoring his only son from a young age so that Rex may one day be Alpha. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been as easy as he believed it would. Roy genuinely loves his son and does want the best for him, however he truly feels that the following the path of his predecessors is what is best for him - as well as for the benefit of the pack. Carolyn (Carol-lynn) Howard nee Snyder: Carolyn was born the youngest of three daughters, her father a Beta in the Howard pack. Carolyn was arranged to marry Roy Howard, becoming his mate and the Alpha Mother of the pack. Despite their relationship being rocky in the beginning, with Carolyn upset that she was being forced to marry rather than find her own love, the arranged couple eventually did develop genuine feelings for each other and vowed to make it work - and not just for the sake of the pack. Carolyn gave birth to the only child she and Roy would have; Roy named their son Rex, the Latin word for King. Carolyn loves her son with all of her heart; though she understands the destiny that has been set for him, she wishes to see her son walk his own path, that’s what she believes is best for him. Carolyn is a devoted wife and mate to Roy and usually stands by the decisions he makes - however, that doesn’t mean she won’t stand against him for any reason when she doesn’t believe he’s doing something right. Samson “Sammy” Delgado: Sammy grew up within the community, though he was not actually born there. Sammy’s parents were a part of a different pack that resided in territory not very far from the Howards; Sammy was three when his parents were killed by hunters and the scared little pup was found by Roy after the Alpha went to investigate the rumor of trespassing on his portion of the land. Roy took the orphan back to his community where he was cared for by Carolyn, as well as other female members of the pack. Sammy and Rex became best friends the moment they met and their bond only got stronger as they both grew, eventually considering themselves to be brothers. Lane Bartlett: The wild child son of a Howard pack member, Lane was outcast among the other pups because of his mischief attitude. The pup couldn’t make friends easily because he would always pull a prank on them that they didn’t find funny and after a while his behavior simply got very annoying; not even Roy could take his antics for very long. Because of his constant misbehavior, Lane’s family was almost kicked out of the community, however Rex convinced his father to let them stay, telling him that - basically - he would be responsible for Lane and would keep him out of trouble. The fright of nearly losing his home combined with the actions of the Omega set Lane straight and he began to behave better than he had before. Rex’s persuasion put Lane in his debt, one that he was happy to repay as he felt that Rex had saved him, in his words, a shitstorm. (FC: Daniel Sharman)

BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS #24-27 JUNE - NOVEMBER 1985 BY MIKE W. BARR, ALAN DAVIS AND ADRIENNE ROY

SYNOPSIS (FROM DC DATABASE)

The Outsiders go on a day trip at the Gotham Zoo, where Rex Mason and Sapphire will meet with Simon Stagg to discuss the upcoming wedding of Rex and Sapphire. Meanwhile, the rest of the Outsiders enjoy a day at the Zoo until the place is attacked by a group of armed mercenaries. Working together, Katana, Black Lightning and Geo-Force stop some of the criminals and save innocent lives while Batman interrogates the crooks and finds out that the responsible for the attack was Simon Stagg's personal assistant, who wanted to murder his boss and claim his empire. When Metamorpho saves Simon from a certain death, Simon finally agrees to let him and his daughter marry, much to Java's dismay.

Meanwhile, Halo continues wandering on her own and decides to stop using her powers as she tries to adapt to her new lifestyle as human. While prowling the streets by herself, she stumbles into a friendly man who takes her and many other people to "Eden", the secret place of a cult, whose leader is a man called Brother Abraham.

In Gotham City, the Outsiders get ready for the wedding of Metamorpho and Sapphire and on the arrangements, Katana meets a woman called Emily Briggs, who is concerned of her own appearance and Brion Markov decides to go on a date with Denise Howard

Meanwhile, Halo has joined a religious cult and she becomes part of their peaceful community. When the man who introduced her to the cult, proposes marriage to her, they prepare to leave the community, but they are spotted by Lady Eve, who captures them and takes them back to the leader of the cult, who is none other than Kobra, the leader of the Kobra Cult. The villain recognizes Halo as a member of the Outsiders and forces her to reveal the secret identity of Batman.

Having learned the secret identities of the Outsiders, Kobra sends various members of the Kobra Cult to assassinate them in Gotham City. All of his agents fail and the Outsiders become aware of Kobra's activities.

Knowing that the only member of the team that is unaccounted for is Halo, the Outsiders go looking for her and they find Kobra's hideout, only to learn that the villain has already moved out and taken control of the satellite defense program called "Star Wars System" and is threatening the United States Government with giving it to Soviet Russia if they don't surrender Fort Knox.

Batman and the Outsiders attempt to stop Kobra, who has gained control of the Star Wars satellite and blackmails the Pentagon with selling its secrets to Russia. Going undercover, the Outsiders find the primary building used by the Kobra Cult, where they rescue Halo and her boyfriend, David Harrison. Batman instructs David to inform his father, who is a military general of the situation while the Outsiders stop Kobra.

The Outsiders use Kobra's own spaceship to reach the satellite and in the final struggle, they come up victorious, destroying the satellite and forcing Kobra to retreat and give up their plans of domination. In the aftermath, Halo rejoins the Outsiders after coming to terms with her new humanity and elsewhere, Emily Briggs is about to become just what she always wanted.

REVIEW

I was actually surprised when Halo revealed Batman’s secret identity. And the whole story was good. For those that were born in the nineties, “Star Wars” was a defense system that the United States was trying to make reality. It would have allowed satellites to shut down missiles.

Alan Davis is also improving (although some bodies seem to bend too much), but in general I appreciate the characterizations. Starting with the fact that Prince Brion is way more tall than the rest of the group.

Being pregnant again was not on Vicki Vale's agenda, not when she's raising five boys and has to take care of her sister's children that she bas to take care of. Trying to keep the pregnancy from the father of her child, Bruce Wayne, wont be easy when she has to interview him at a charity event. But when she throw ups on Jack Ryder's shoes while in mid conversation, there's not much left to hiding it now. Vicki then suddenly find's herself living in Wayne Manor with the kids and learning along the way what it truly means to be a family, oh and visits from alternate reality characters does not help.

The Promise of Forever (Rex&Melitta)

He wasn’t used to wearing a suit, the formal attire rather uncomfortable and even a bit tight. They didn’t have much time for a proper fitting being the arranged marriage was only within a span of days. The stupid bow tie was the worst, Rex having never actually learned how to put one on - there was never a reason for him to; he never sported a tie if he had to dress up nicely anyway. Thank God for his mother in that case.

As the matriarch of his pack fixed the Godforsaken accessory around his neck, Rex couldn’t help but stare at his reflection in the mirror, sighing a heavy breath as blue-green hues took in the sight of the wolf that would soon take on the biggest responsibility of his entire life. And it wasn’t being an Alpha. To say that he was nervous about getting married would be an understatement - he was downright terrified, but wore a mask of stoicism; a disguise he conjured to use against and trick his father, but was very much ineffective against his mother.

“Don’t be nervous, my love,” Carolyn cooed softly, hand combing his hair before caressing down his bearded cheek in a motherly manner. The stoic mask broke as he smiled, eyes softening as he turned his gaze onto her. “I’m trying not to be,” he admitted, taking a deep breath. “Bet this isn’t how you pictured my wedding when I was a kid, huh?” Carolyn frowned for a brief second, fingers going back to work straightening her son’s bow tie. “I would have rather watched you fall in love with someone before this day came, I will admit. Your father’s intentions...They are fair,” she explained, “he is thinking of our pack’s future.” Rex added swiftly, “But doesn’t seem to care about mine.” Carolyn shook her head. “That’s not it. I know your father doesn’t show it often, Rex, but he does care more about you than the pack - you are his son, his only child. He believes that this is what’s best, for everyone. His methods are...unorthodox for sure, but I have faith that he knows what he is doing.” If anyone could convince him to continue going forward with this whole thing, it was his mother. She then smiled that bright, beautiful smile he’s always loved and turned to stand beside him, her hands on his upper arms while her head rested against his shoulder. “My handsome boy.” Her comment had Rex smiling too and he turned to wrap his arms around her, giving her a tight hug.

A knock came at the door just then and when it opened, in popped Roy Howard, dressed in a suit just like his son though his was less fancy-like. He wasn’t the one getting married after all, so he didn’t have to look ten times his best. “It’s time,” Roy told them, voice firm and hard, as if he were announcing a command rather than simply relaying information. Rex took another deep breath, trying to settle his nerves - he wasn’t so successful. It was time indeed. In just less than an hour, he would marry a fellow wolf and unify their packs, growing stronger in numbers. His soon to be bride, Melitta, he has only known for a mere few days, but that didn’t seem to matter now. According to his father, they had all the time in the world to get to know each other - it was true, but it would be a lie if he said he didn’t like the idea of a traditional relationship. Oh well, it was out of his hands now.

With his mother’s arm locked in his, Rex escorted her to the large chamber hall that was beautifully decorated despite the little planning time span. Carolyn kissed her son’s cheek and hugged him once more before going to take her seat amongst the vast sea of werewolf guests from both packs. Roy took a brief moment to pat his son on the shoulder and gave him a stern nod before joining his wife. Rex stood at the top of the altar, still attempting to settle himself down as he waited for his future bride; gaze fixed almost intensely on the back doors of the chamber hall, his mind could only imagine what she would look like when she stepped through those doors. He already thought of Melitta as beautiful, but was told that his breath would be taken away upon witnessing her in the chosen bridal gown. That actually filled him with eagerness, honestly, and a part of him could hardly stand being patient. 

Fortunately, he wouldn’t have to wait for very much longer.

Trying to keep the pregnancy from the father of her child, Bruce Wayne, wont be easy when she has to interview him at a charity event. But when she throw ups on Jack Ryder's shoes while in mid conversation, there's not much left to hiding it now. Vicki then suddenly find's herself living in Wayne Manor with the kids and learning along the way what it truly means to be a family, oh and visits from alternate reality characters does not help.
