My thoughts on the Roaring Knight

(they're probably not gonna be very coherent)

First of all, people so confidently pointing at Carol being the Knight are wildin'

It's Dess. But not literally. I think... The Knight was made. Possibly to carry out the prophecy, but the prophecy is at least in part bullshit. I think there is a goal, and how it gets accomplished is less important - therefore making the Knight a tool that can be thrown away if absolute need be. It's about the red soul.

As for proof? Beyond the obvious antlers/summoning a bat that turns into a sword? (Carol uses a katana while the Knight's sword is shaped like a falchion. I doubt this is a pixel restriction issue, it's like that on purpose.) In chapter 4 when the gang is chasing them they act flippant. Childish. Zooming up the stairs while grinning with their hands crossed. Can you picture The Serious Mayor doing that? Or that animalistic, beastly introduction? I can't.

I think they are made from some sort of an essence? Darkness? Of a titan and a part of Dess. I hesitate to throw around any soul ideas because the whole monster soul situation in this game is already so gooddamn weird it warrants a post of it's own. Whether that means Dess herself is somewhere else or.. merged? with it I don't know.

it's been an idea in my head for a while but by god these two stories have so many parallels and connections. lightners/passengers being the most important, using the dark world/the train as a means of escape or improvement and development. darkners/denizens only existing to serve the people from the "real" world. infinite pocket dimensions, infinite cars, infinite combinations of rooms and objects and memories, infinite possibilities.

imagine the story of deltarune told on the infinity train.

kris and susie (and assumedly noelle and berdly, other lightners that make it to the dark world too) are apprehended at turning points in their lives. they arrive in ralsei's train car, the closet car? the lonely prince car? they both have rather large numbers on their hands, maybe in the thousands. and ralsei is ever so eager to help them on their path to self improvement through the train. he knows only the train, he believes the train does its best to help.

lancer, spade king, rouxls kaard, seam, jevil, all of the characters in the card castle dark world become denizens of the card castle car. denizens like seam and jevil know the true nature of the train and their place in this world.

noelle and berdly in the cyber city car wpuld have sizeable numbers on their hands, but noelle's and kris' would grow if somehow the weird route was allowed to fester here. would someone be controlling kris during their journey on the train? perhaps that's why they're here.

spamton, like mt/lake wants so desperately to escape the train but can't because all he's meant to do is stay and help the lightners become better people. or worse people. after all, susie in chapter 1 would be very susceptible to joining the apex. she moves through a manufactured world, less than real, less important than real people, so she could clobber who she wants. escape from responsibility and reality, escape from improvement.

i haven't thought much regarding parallels in chapter 3 and 4, but i can imagine a game show car and a church car. especially for chapter 4... amelia tried so hard to revive alrick on her own, but the dark world can revive someone just like that...

please give me thoughts if you see this this au has plagued me for YEARS. deltarune fans you NEED to watch infinity train. infinity train fans you NEED to play deltarune.

Going insane thinking about Martlet at the end of the Aborted No Mercy Run.

You have a human standing before you. They have proven themself to be just as dangerous as your mentor said they'd be: through the Dark Ruins, Lower Snowdin, and the Dunes, they had carved out a trail of dust and death and misery. Dozens of your fellow monsters have fallen under their gun.

And yet! This human granted mercy to you and a bunch of half-rusted robots. Is that enough kindness within them to make them worthy of redemption? Should you let them go unpunished? Families have been irreparably destroyed, friends and fellow citizens have been slaughtered on their quest for vengeance. This wasn't some frightened kid defending themself; all of their actions--all of those deaths--were deliberate. If people knew that you took them in, they'd tear down your doors demanding bloodshed for all the grief this human inflicted on the Underground and brand you a villain. No matter what you do, whether it be to kill them or grant them mercy, dozens are dead regardless.

And yet, this human, Clover (though you're the only one who knows their name), isn't attacking you. Even when you've thrown away the only chance you had at defeating them, they're not attacking you. They're listening to your idea about staying with you, they either agree or hesitate at the prospect of staying with you before agreeing. They've agreed to put their tendency towards violence/dustshed behind them and to try to be peaceful. You've never been quite sure if you've made the best choices until after you've made them, but this one? In this moment, this one results in the least amount of violence and death between the two of you.

Is this the best choice and outcome for this situation? I don't know, I'm not qualified enough to answer that. But if it wasn't for Flowey's meddling, it would have worked.

I'm curious now, but do you have any tips for creating a language? I've been wanting to make languages for a few story eras in my AUs, and I've just skimmed over your starspeak language for your AU, and I find it very interesting!

ohhh that sounds so much fun!!! languages spanning multiple eras is a big undertaking and i wish you luck withit!!

there are certainly a dozen far more comprehensive resources out there on conlangs than what i could give you, and there are diverse and passionate communities dedicated just to it!

i'm only messing around for my own fun. i don't think my conlang would hold up under deep scrutiny and it's certainly a novice work, and i'm not talking with other folks who are big into linguistics or anything. none the less, my first and foremost advice with any creative endeavour is to do what is most fun and easy for you!!

for me, this looked like: Ease (because i'm lazy and i did this only for fun and personal use) and Cultural Basis Of The Language (because i'm interested in spec bio, and language/culture is a big part of that). if you find other things most enjoyable, then whatever those are should be your priorities instead!

i took a couple of existing languages and language conventions that suited for my needs (my language is star based, so i looked into bayer designation and similar astronomical designations) and then made mashup words from translations. this was quick and easy, though i'm sure any true conlang creator would find it lazy or even improper; i run the strong risk of bastardizing real words by accident!

i also like to think about how the culture or biology or history of the species would impact the language. i've spoken before about my 'endearment' word, Vaýtita, which means gravity. this is important to the star based species i'm working with, because gravity is one of the few forces that can impact a star.

this sort of stuff is the most compelling to me-- if they don't have "hearts, "love", and "soul", what forces are important to them? if they are genderless and don't need pronouns, what do they use instead and how to they delineate individuals in conversation (if they do)? if hierarchy is critically important, how does their sentence structure incorporate hierarchy into everyday language?

you also can study a lot of real earth languages to see the enormous variety in how sentences are put together, about different particles, and so on!! to me, there's no reason why alien languages* would be spoken in any recognisable way with things like word order, so i switch this all over the show. but again, only if you find this sorta thing fun!! otherwise you can just make literally whatever you enjoy!!

*which is what i'm writing! obviously if you are writing something historical there's a lot more to consider

thinking about my frustrations with the current system we live under and realizing my experiences (constantly having very little money, thus preventing me from buying things except once in a blue moon unless there's a free option available) are not universal. however i am charging headlong down making a mobile game, and while i probably will put ads into it bc im a broke bitch i refuse to let it be just another of the hundreds of half-assed tutorial projects with a quadspillion ads in them apiece

but this leads me to a conundrum.

i want to have cute little skins for the player character that can be "bought" through one of two things: achieving a cumulative score high enough to unlock it, or by watching a certain number of ads willingly. notably, i refuse to use the ones that interrupt the gameplay out of nowhere and do nothing except pay me, even if they technically pay app makers more than any other kind of ad.

i'm just not sure exactly how to implement it:

should the "unlock via Playing The Game" skins be completely separate from the "watch x number of ads" skins?

should the "unlock via Playing The Game" option be available on the same skins that have the "watch x number of ads" option?

should the "watch x number of ads" thing be reworked into just "watch an ad to add x amount to your current spendable score"?

should i go the scummy route and implement flat-out in-app purchases for if someone doesn't want to watch an ad to get a skin??? does anybody actually do that????? i'm too broke to comprehend the existence of that kind of person but they have to exist if half-assed apps (and tbh whole-assed apps) keep on acting like they're real

should i forfeit my dignity and integrity and do lootboxes
