Why FABT Leo needs a hug

1. He watched his sister and baby brother die literal days ago

2. Said baby brother now lives in his brain but is in constant pain and is very depressed and also mourning their sister (which Leo can feel when he’s inside his brain)

3. He just assigned himself the mission of sending everyone in the bad timeline to the good timeline afterlife just so they can feel joy again

4. I cannot express how fucking depressed this man is

5. He keeps forgetting he’s missing his hand because he associates having it with Raph being alive

6. PTSD dreams almost every night

7. Baby brother now has to watch his PTSD dreams

8. He’s a Leo, you know he’s insecure

9. Doesn’t know how to talk to his remaining father with this whole ghost situation going on

10. Or anyone for that matter

Alright, as I'm not sure how much further my fics are going to go, I'm extending an invitation for everyone to send me asks all about them, spoilers and all! This includes future plans and whatever art I've never shared because they would spoil it. I do still love these stories, and most of my plans for them are completely unknown to anyone but me right now, and I don't want them to never be shared! I will tag spoilers, just in case someone wants to keep whatever comes of my fics a surprise if they return. This invitation will last forever, anyone can ask me anything about For A Better Time, A Tear In My Eye, and The Sky is Still Red for as long as I have this blog!

I'm not going to pretend this is likely and I urge you not to either, but there is a CHANCE that this could rekindle some of my motivation for writing. That said, please don't ask questions just to make more chapters magically appear.

Just to kick off the Star fic spoilerfest, under the cut I am going to reveal the identity of the Spider in For A Better Time!

Surprise, it was Donnie the whole time!

And before I continue, I would like to formally apologize for responding to comments on chapter six that guessed this correctly and saying they were wrong when I first posted the chapter. I panicked because this was supposed to be a big surprise, and I didn't want the shock to be diminished when it was delivered. I regretted it immediately, but I couldn't see a way to undo it without spoiling the twist.

Anyway, yeah! Donnie has been alive this whole time under the Krang's captivity! While Krangified, he's called Spider because he's not an "insect" like the other Hamatos anymore. He's also the last person who was ever Krangified because he managed to kill Krang Brother while being infected.

I love his design, and it's tragic that I've had to keep it secret for over a year. His battleshell is mostly intact still because the Krang have never sent him on an attack, and the retractable spider arms have been covered in Krang matter and turned into deadly drills. His helmet is also overgrown with biomass, and huge, bulging eyes squeeze against the broken glass of his visor. He also has mandibles that are incredibly strong and very sharp.

This is one of the only drawings of the Spider that I have, and it actually originates from the Spotify Wrapped drawing prompt challenge I tried to do last year. One of the prompts I got was #6 with FABT Mikey, an incredibly kind prompt, but unfortunately #6 was Red Flags by Tom Cardy, which is possibly the least FABT Mikey songs that exists. I did manage to think of something, but couldn't post it because of spoilers. Here is the full image:

Today, March 1st, has been the first anniversary of For A Better Time! It's insane to me that it's been an entire year. If I finish this drawing (I really like it so far so I hope I do) I'll probably make it a DTIYS, so let me know if you'd be interested in that! Thank you all for a year <3

Is he a badass mystic warrior? Yes. Is he also a clumsy dumbfuck who regularly forgets he's missing an entire hand? Also yes. Following this incident he will curl up on the floor in embarrassment for an hour while Mikey comforts him (after laughing at him for it for five whole minutes).

✍️ What’s your ideal writing setup?

🧪 Do you research for your fics?

✍️Uhh I don't really have one, it fluctuates. Sometimes I find it easiest to write on my laptop and edit on my iPad, sometimes they switch, I don't have any optimal conditions for writing.

🧪 For ATIME chapter four I did a bit of looking into how cold-blooded creatures work, and for FABT chapter six I researched what types of fabric burned the way I had in mind for Casey's mini funeral, but other than that I don't think I've done much research for my fics at all

It's been finished for almost two months, chapter six is just fighting me real bad, but I'm finally posting it!! Please yell at me about it and give me motivation to finish the next one

Boosting chapter three of my fic with some refs of the boys! Since it didn’t have any promo art I figured I should give it something. Chapter four is pretty close to being finished, I just have to get through a bit of writer’s block first! The current chapter title is Full-Body Phantom Pains if that interests anyone ;)

Soooooo....... FABT has now officially not been updated in a full year! Unfortunately I haven't touched chapter seven in several days, but I just started writing some kind of short story about a guy that gets stuck in the ocean for eternity, which is something? I haven't been able to write much of anything for a long time since I've been extremely stuck on all of my projects, so this new thing that probably won't go anywhere actually makes me pretty happy! It feels good to write again!

My deepest condolences for that cliffhanger, though. I'll try to work on that.

Things I like about your fics? Oh boy, where do I start!

First of all, you come up with the most unique and interesting ideas! I know I've mentioned it before, but I love the design of FABT Leo's arm, how he's missing the hand and uses most of the prosthetic as a sort of armor. I also love how the tiny bit of Leo's blue ninpo he has left, mixed with Mikey's golden ninpo, turns it into a light green! You come up with ideas that are really cool visually, but also make so much sense in the story!

I also really love how your characters have realistic struggles, related to what they're going through. Casey struggles with his unexpected mutation in ATIME, suddenly having a completely different body and appearance that he didn't ask for. Mikey struggles with the fact that he's a ghost in FABT, having lost his physical body on top of everything else that's already been taken from him. The characters don't only have to deal with what's happening around them, but they struggle with the things that have happened TO them, if that makes sense.

And your chapter/promo art? It's always so good! The art you posted for TSISR was absolutely incredible, and got me so excited to read chapter one! (Which was SO GOOD, by the way! I can't wait to see what else you have planned for this one!)

Basically, there's a lot to love about your work!

Second point: That's actually interesting that you say that. ATIME was written to be about Casey's experience losing sight of where "Casey Jones" starts and ends following an enormous change to himself, that is the plot, at the moment I don't really have any plans for things that happen to him. For FABT though I think Mikey's experience being a ghost kind of happened by accident. It started with him not really knowing what he was doing, like how in chapter three he used up his daily magic quota, learned he can't taste or smell outside of Leo's brain, and isn't sure if he can even die this way, and then in chapter four he reveals that he's in constant pain (chapter four actually was not outlined, I wrote that completely on a whim, whoops), which sort of led to going more into his feelings on his appearance in chapter five. The fic started out being about Leo from his perspective, but as it progressed and Mikey became a main character alongside him, it felt only natural to explore what he is now. Him being a ghost is one of the core concepts of the story, and many of his own conflicts directly involve it, such as his trauma around literally dying but not really. It's a lot easier for me to write about that than the actual progression toward the characters' main goal, I write fics because of the fun ideas that I come up with, the linear story is secondary to me.

Kinda curious, so I thought I'd ask. Are you taking a break from writing? I love your writing, and It's been a bit since any of your fics updated.

I've been severely burnt out and busy with schoolwork, and I'm pretty sure my Rise hyperfixation died, so I haven't been writing regularly for a long time. To be totally honest, there's a good chance that none of my current fics will ever update again, which breaks my heart. Don't unsubscribe from everything yet, I might be able to make something work. Thank you so much for your kind words, I know I'm very unmotivated at the moment, but people saying they enjoy my writing makes me so happy! Whether the fics update or not, they'll always be there.
