the thing is okay!!! like!!! I love seeing a character in pain. I love a good bit of sheer anguish in a person. I love scenes and stories of screaming and wailing and moaning from physical/mental agony, and just as much cold empty moments where we see them just sitting there, defeated, as the icy reality of the nightmare they are living sinks in.

I just also happen to really fucking love when they go through all of that...and then they also get to be happy and find the warmth after it's all done. ya know?

Francine Simmons has a degree in computer engineering and an ADHD diagnosis hanging next to each other on her apartment wall. She's always been passionate about her programming hobby, and daydreamed about the idea of artificial sentience. She spends about a third of her time at work working, and the rest playing with code. One day, she installed one of the programs she made onto the communal photocopier at her office job, just to see what it would learn from work documents. She did not expect the photocopier to start talking on its own. Sam is Fran's biggest secret, and she tries her best to hide their sentience from her coworkers. Fran's girlfriend keeps her sane, and convinces her that she's not a terrible person for creating Sam.

Let me tell you about the story I'm currently calling The Absent-Minded Prometheus.
