Christmas Crossover AU
transcript:
(comic one)
Jack: So, you come here often?
Bernard: Occasionally.. if necessary.
Bernard: Hey, nice hoodie. Did we do this one?
Jack: Uh.. well, technically-
(comic two)
Jack: Bernard, how's it going?
Bernard: Jack?! How'd you get here? Wait- don't tell me, I don't want to know. I can't talk, don't you know how busy we are right now??
Jack: Why don't I help? Wow some elves with my talents, ey?
Bernard: “Jack Frost” has a reputation here, so it's probably best to steer clear of Santa. And the elves. Actually, please come back later when I'm not drowning in work.
Jack: Aww what, don't you enjoy my company?
Bernard: That's hardly the p- IS THAT REINDEER ORANGE?!! (off screen): Sorry, Bernard!
(comic three)
Jack: So how long has it been since you had a real vacation?
Bernard: Oh, at least 500 years.. probably.
Jack: 500? Impressive! I wasn't even born as a human yet.
Bernard: Look'atcha, all green around the edges~
Jack: Hey, 400 years is nothing to scoff at...
Bernard: Please. You, my icy friend, are an infant.

"The snow is already GAY Jacqueline, WE'RE the ones MAKING IT!"
I feel like, in a way, this is a spiritual successor to this one lol. If Jacqueline doesn't confuse Jack at least once (1 time) per day, is she even doing her do diligence as both annoying little sister and middle child?
Bonus: this is by far the cutest Winter I have ever drawn
Tumblr media
Happy pride! :)
[based on this classic]
[winter and jacqueline frost are my oc's. you can read about em here! they appear in the tag a lot but hey man, you gotta plug yourself when you can 🤷‍♀️]
[that could've been phrased better]
omg okokok I was gonna put this all in the tags but my tags are ALREADY long as fuck but guys. you guys. do you know how I got these ding dang photos of the thing? I TOOK MY SKETCH BOOK INTO WORK AND USED THE BIG SCANNER. THE SCANNER THAT INTERNET ARCHIVE USES FOR BOOKS. THAT KINDA SCANNER. WE CALL IT THE LIZARD (it has lizard in it's name, I think) AND IT TOOK QUALITY TIFFS! That I had to flip to png's to post. BUT STILL! I GOT THE GOOD LIGHTING, EVEN IF SOME QUALITY IS LOST!
I mean, it's got layers and layers and layers of marker and metallic marker and pencil crayon and the like, so the smudgeness is not surprising, lol. Playing around with colours for the cold front was fun! I'll figure out my limited colour palette with Jack's usual fit at some point ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I wasn't sure if I wanted to add Winter or not but I asked the jury (since the og meme has jesse on a ladder) and the jury said YES and she's my favourite part of this whole ding dang thing. I drew her first. AND coloured her first. She has existed in all her =D glory a better part of the week! Best thing I've ever drawn hands down, I will NEVER top that lmao
anyway. scrimbly forthcoming at the end of the week hopefully, barring my busy ass weekend getting in the way! And I HAVE gotten the June prompts in ye olde inbox--y'all have given me some PUZZLERS. Has my brain doing the BIG THINK

HiJack Idea
I really want more RotG and HttyD crossovers where the HttyD cast meets the RotG cast. But I want them in all their canon glory - the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Sandman, and Santa Clause.
So I was cooking up the idea of... a situation wherein the Guardians fall through dimensions of time. There'd be a spot of GoC (book lore) intertwined because Jack Frost and Nightlight are a fusion (somehow - the how is a mystery to be revealed later).
Anyways, they fall through the realms, end up in HttyD world as one does, prior to HttyD 2. And they are inevitably scattered. But the twist is that Jack Frost has fully reverted into a human (as he tends to), which includes missing all his memories of being Jack Frost.
He wakes up, literally washed ashore to Berk, suffering severe hypothermia, etc. He meets the gang and their dragons, etc. He is properly freaked out because his last memory was falling into a frozen pond and not swimming back up. But he manages. He deals. Hiccup promises to help him find this "New World" where he comes from.
As Jack settles in, he begins to see strange visions - nightmare like, but not always when he's asleep. It's as if he's trapped in a fight. There's always a sense of loss and loneliness that comes when the vision ends, as horrific as it feels to live through. And in the aftermath, Jack struggles to breath - loses body heat - and remains unconscious for days.
Then they also start hearing tales from Johann of odd goings on within the Archipelago. There's a mysterious island that glows gold, appeared on the maps one day. Every time someone approaches it, sleep drags them down - a sleep that they cannot fight. And when they wake up, they're far from the island again.
There's also a strange creature that lurks in forests. People can't quite get a good look at it, but it's massive. And furry. Wherever forest this creature is spotted, the forest begins to teem with plentiful plant bounty.
And last, a new trader is making his way through the Archipelago. Johann is mighty miffed about him. New guy's gonna put him out of a job, he is. Everyone says that the new trader brings a wealth of new and wondrous trinkets - notably nothing for war and the like, but children all over the islands adore his works. The grown ups are not immune to the spectacle even if its not always practical. Johann is largely satisfied that the new trader had yet to arrived in Berk.
All this, Jackson Overland learns with Hiccup and friends. All this, Jackson is completely clueless about, as equally enthralled as the rest of Berk.
North will be the first to find Jack. He arrives as told, a new trader with a ship nearly sinking from the weight of his curios. Hiccup and North talk endlessly about craft and smithing, that Hiccup forgets to let anyone have a word in. It's only by the third day of North's arrival that Hiccup thinks to introduce his friends, including a very bemused Jack. On seeing Jack, North falls to his knees in immediate recognition.
What follows is confusion as Jack claims no memory of the man. North is rightfully heartbroken. Hiccup intercedes saying that there's many a mystery about Jack and perhaps North can shed some light on Jack's past. North surprisingly shakes his head, explains that Jack is missing more than memories and only if the missing part is returned then Jack will understand. When pressed, North tells them that the part is not something but someone.
(Cue a little Hiccup angst because he gets to thinking that maybe Jack isn't as single as he claims to be.)
North decides that Jack is safer where he is and that he will search on Jack's behalf to find his missing someone. Jack says that he and Hiccup are already searching for a way to bring Jack home so they could also look for whoever is missing. But North doesn't give them a description, he only explains that Jack will Know when he sees his missing someone.
Fast forward a little, Hiccup's explorations lead to him meeting Valka and uncovering the sanctuary where Jack meets another almost familiar someone. Tooth tackles Jack to the ground in her glee at finding him again. She and Valka are now the Best of Friends, it's actually unreal.
The story goes almost to canon, except the Light Fury is in the sanctuary when Valka invites everyone. Jack and the Light Fury strike up a bond, a slow and hesitant one - oddly the Light Fury seems to recognize him. It's enough to keep her out of the Alpha's thrall and protect Stoik when Toothless is under his control.
After wrapping up with that debacle, Valka goes home with Tooth at her side. They arrive at Berk to find North is docked, bringing a mysterious companion clad in a long and heavy cloak. North introduces him as Aster, a warrior from far away. Jack feels that hint of recognition but not... nothing more profound. At this point, North, Bunny, and Tooth have been reunited.
Light Fury brings Jack (with the other dragon riders following) to a secret island - not the island of Sleepy Sands, but some place off the map. The Light Fury is the one to bring Jack and Nightlight together.
All this time, Nightlight and Pitch find themselves in a familiar situation, pinned in combat, unwilling to let the other leave. They aren't exactly inside of time, trapped in a fight that lasts both seconds and an eternity. Sandy has been keeping vigil - unable to help but capturing any wayward Nightmare or Fearling that escapes.
Jack immediately understands North's cryptic words. He remembers with some clarity that sleeping Nightlight was fused with the dying Jackson Overland, which transformed him into Jack Frost. That Nightlight was the missing part - his literal other half. But if Jack breaks Nightlight free, then they also will set loose Pitch.
The Guardians and the Dragon Riders agree to do so anyways. It goes a little tits up because Pitch escapes from their clutches. But Jack and Nightlight are reunited - yet remain physicall apart.
The Hidden World plot happens with Pitch adding more firepower to the threat. Ultimately in the end, Jack and Nightlight realize that they now have a choice. Jack could remain here, live out the rest of his normal human life with a normal human family. Nightlight could return and take his place again as a Guardian.
But then, Jack Frost will cease to exist. And we go a little more into Nightlight's story, which also shows protective Jack is of Nightlight. Because Nightlight was strong and courageous boy but he had become awfully lonely and tired after eons of existence. Jackson Overland was his sanctuary - his safety blanket against the harsh world, something that goes beyond brotherhood and camaraderie - literally the Other Half.
And Jack will have to choose between returning as a Guardian and fulfilling his duty or staying in Berk to live as he pleases.

It...is....DONE! After 3 weeks of cursing myself and wondering why I decided to draw that. XD
There's this poster of "Spiderman : Into the Spiderverse" in my living-room and since I really like it and the movie itself, the idea of making a " Rise of the Guardians" poster with the same poses has been stuck in my mind for almost a year.  Sorry for the big watermark, but a lot of my Fanart gets stolen on sites like Redbubble, etc. so it's necessary to protect it. It's my first artwork / upload of 2022, btw, so woohoo!!! :D

my bestie suggested more Christmas Crossover AU and i couldn’t say no to that 😂 the differing elf lore is funny to me so i had to address it somehow. i think that after dealing with North, the elves would flock to someone who takes them (semi) seriously. and Bernard just hits that balance of grumpy efficiency 👌
transcript:
Bernard: Why am I here
Jack: You need to get out more, I'm getting you out more.
Bernard: My job is management and keeping out intruders. I'm not supposed to become one.
Jack. It's fine, I'm allowed in here. North is just out for the day.
Bernard: You brought me to see a bunch of gnomes?
Jack: No no, not gnomes, elves. Go on, say something to them!
Bernard: Encouragement really isn't my strong suit-
Jack: Then do what you do best~
Bernard: ...Right.
Bernard: You! What're your jobs around here?
Elf 1: (~)
Bernard: Bakers? Cocoa brewers? Excellent. And you?
Elf 2: (~)
Bernard: Musician, fantastic. Traditional positions huh.
Elf 3: (~!)
Bernard: “Haughty”? Of course he's haughty, all Santas are. They don't appreciate the nuance of the background workforce. We elves are the vital backbone of Santa's workshop. You all have important tasks to keep, so I’m expecting good results from you.
Bernard: And I don't like to be disappointed. Capiche?
(elves cheery excitedly)
Jack: Oooh, looks like someone’s got some new fans! North is gonna love this.
Jack: You know the elves don't do the actual toy making, right?
Bernard: Whatdo'ya take me for, an amateur?
(Bonus 1)
Curtis: This is the fifth stack of personal letters you've received this week, Bernard. This is all highly suspicious..
Bernard: Curtis, you wouldn't know “suspicious” if it hit you in the face with a bowl of waxed fruit.
(Bonus 2)
North: There's something wrong with the elves, I'm sure of it!
Tooth: How so?
North: These are the BEST. Cookies. I have ever eaten!
(Jack laughs quietly)

craving a climactic battle after whatever the hell the santa vs santa fight in the finale was?
BOY DO I HAVE SOMETHING FOR YOU!
🆕 Crystal Springs Chapter 27: Stick It to The Man is now up on ao3 and fanfiction dot net!! :D
Chapter 27: Stick It to The Man
Blaise and Pyros face off. Jack tries to get through to Jacqueline, with a little help from some friends. Working together, the Frosts stick it to The Man.
I was SO TORN between making the summary just "The Frosts stick it to The Man" but then I was like "but so much cool stuff happens outside of that! Twin Princes fight! Cold Front angst/hurt/comfort! AH! So I relented on my. Tomfoolery. And came to a happy medium!
BUT I CAN ASSURE YOU, THERE IS MAJOR TOMFOOLERY IN THIS CHAPTER! CHECK IT OUT ON AO3 HERE AND FF DOT NET HERE!
Oh, and in this tasty little excerpt here which even has, dare I say it...some BADASSERY?!?!? HELL YEAH:
“This doesn’t usually take this long,” Pyros finally spoke, looking up at his curled hand. “Performance issues, huh?” “I—no! No, I’m the greatest warlock that has ever—” he dropped his hand, uncurling it and thrusting it up in the air once more, fist glowing red. “—lived! I don’t have—” he uncurled his fist once more, repeating the motion for a third time. “—performance issues! I will—” another attempt was made to summon his staff. “—I will summon my staff and—” His fist was curled so tightly his knuckles had surpassed white, the veins on his hand bulging. He squinted in concentration, in frustration as the red glow suddenly went out with a fart noise. His staff could not, would not be summoned. Blaise let his smirk escape. “You were saying?” Pyros growled. Bringing his fists down, he shoved them forward. There was a high-pitched squeal as fire burst from his fists. It spiralled, rushing towards Blaise and hitting him square in the chest. Blaise let out a whoosh of breath as the fire knocked him off his feet and into the air. He fell into the snow, rolling twice before stopping. “HA!” Pyros pointed, watching as Blaise struggled to pull himself up, coughing. “That was so satisfying, you know? You’ve always excelled at our spritely lineage and I cannot express the joy that this,” he said, gesturing towards him with both hands as Blaise’s elbow slipped, knocking him back down into the snow, “just brought me. I—” WHAM! Blaise lifted his head, his eyes widening as Pyros pushed back against a stream of snow that had slammed into him hard. A seemingly endless avalanche pushed him farther and farther back as he turned his face away, trying to keep his airway clear. He tried desperately to regain his footing in the snow, trying his best to stay grounded, but to no avail. Now he was the one knocked off his feet and sent flying, landing on the ground with a loud THWACK as the entire blast of snow settled upon him, pellets hitting pellets with a droning sort of buzz. “Who’s laughing now?! HA!” Blaise shouted, struggling to push himself up.
Who IS laughing now???? Who threw the snow?? WHAT HAPPENED TO PYROS'S STAFF?!?! WHERE'S JACQUELINE? All those answers and MORE in the climactic, magical battle you all deserve to read/see in Chapter 27: Stick It to The Man, HERE on ao3 and HERE on fanfiction dot net :D
Not sure who these mofos are? Want to know more about them? You CAN do this in one, simple step! Taking Crystal Springs from the top with the Prologue: An Encounter, right HERE on ao3 and HERE on fanfiction dot net!
Summary (and author's rambles) below the cut!
It's been almost a year since Jack Frost thawed and things are looking...well, not so great. Jack's powers are seemingly gone. Without them, the Dome that keeps the North Pole safe from the cold and its magic controlled is melting, putting everything and everyone magical at risk. Unable to hide his power shortage any longer, Jack is forced to admit the truth. Thankfully, there is a solution: enacting the Legate Law, bringing Jack and the sister that he hurt so many centuries ago back together again. But when Jacqueline starts experiencing destructive blackouts, the pair are forced to head back home to Crystal Springs, bringing Jack face to face with the rest of the family. Needless to say, between getting his powers back, helping his sister figure out what in the FROST those blackouts even were, reconciling with his parents, meeting the two even younger siblings he didn't even KNOW he had, NOT TO MENTION the ancient threat that's had it out for the ENTIRE Frost family finally making a move? Saving Christmas (regrettably) is looking to be a little bit...complicated.
🆕 This chapter:
More MEAT on some SKELETONs
See the word count for deets:
CS 2014 (OG): 4,488k 😬
CS 202X: 15,758k
WOW!!
A lot more lore inspired things: staff nonsense, mainly. I hope you all pick up what I put down ;)
BUT YEAH! WOW! WHAT A DOOZY! I have been sitting on this chapter for AGES. This chapter is the HOT chapter. Between Blaise's Thor moment, Jacqueline's big FUCK YOU moment, Jack's "oh it's LOVE" moment, and the last minute cold front hug I added in LITERALLY today??????? HOLY HELL. I AM DECEASED!!!
I hope you all enjoy it like that too! It was so fun to write the banter AND the hurt/comfort/angst! Twin Princes my beloved. Maybe one day you will all see how they act when Pyros is NOT doomed to repeat the cycle. I hope so! I got ideas for THAT.
AND MAN AM I GLAD JACK'S GOT HIS POWERS BACK! If I played my cards right, you can go back and actually SEE moments in the last 3 chapters where he was using his magic! It was always there, he just had to realize what it was that was driving it! I LOVE LOVE!!
PHEW.
Action scenes are hard to write, mainly bc I run out of descriptive words?? So hopefully it reads well and has you all on the edge of your seat 🥰🥰🥰 THE CLIMACTIC CONCLUSION WE ALL DESERVED! (eyeballs whatever the goddamn hell Scott vs Magnus was)
I'm only a bit bitter.
Next chapter next week! See you then! :D

Favourite Childhood Christmas Movie: Rankin/Bass' The Little Drummer Boy (1968) This movie really resonated with me as a kid. Aaron's journey, from youthful joy, to bitterness and hatred, to finally acceptance and love, seems very real, especially given the special's half-hour runtime. Also, the final scene before the manger is breathtakingly beautiful, and has forever influenced how I picture the Nativity.
Favourite Modern Christmas Movie: Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020) This only came out last year and it's already one of my favourites. The gorgeous, lavish costumes! The incredible songs! The worldbuilding! The acting! Keegan-Michael Key's Gustafson steals the show as far as I'm concerned, but there's a lot of talent here, including the brilliant young actress Madalen Mills as Journey.
Favourite "Christmas Carol" Adaptation: Scrooge (1951) Alastair Sim is Scrooge in a way no other actor has ever managed for me. I also love most of the other casting (especially Michael Hordern's fantastic Marley), and in general, I think it's the most faithful adaptation out there, and what extra scenes it adds are utterly in keeping with the tone of the original novel.
Favourite "Nice" Christmas Movie: It's a Wonderful Life (1946) Okay, so It's a Wonderful Life isn't exactly a Christmas movie in my opinion; a very small percentage of the runtime has anything at all to do with the holiday season, and in general, I tend to think of it as a "slice of life" story until near the very end (when George is standing on the bridge, about to jump). That said, a lot of people strongly associate it with the holiday, so I think it counts.
Favourite "Naughty" Christmas Movie: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989) Any movie that can make me laugh hard enough to pee a little and touch my heart with tenderness is a good film in my book.
Favourite Child Protagonist: Cindy Lou Who (How The Grinch Stole Christmas 2000) I really related to Cindy Lou as a kid: her struggle to reclaim her former joy in Christmas, her otherness in a world where no one really seems to understand her, her determination, and her belief in someone everyone else has given up on.
Favourite Teenage Protagonist: Jack Frost (Rise of the Guardians 2012) Once again, RotG may not precisely be a "true" Christmas movie, but it definitely is has strong ties to the holiday. Also, I know Jack isn't technically a "teenager," given he's a few hundred years old, but he retained his teenage appearance and personality after becoming a spirit.
Favourite Adult Protagonist: George Bailey (It's a Wonderful Life 1946) I love Jimmy Stewart's characters in general. His George Bailey is both inspirational and relatable, which is a tricky thing to do. George has flaws - bouts of temper, despair, frustration - but is ultimately a wonderful person who is intelligent, charismatic, generous, and deeply compassionate. Also, I relate very strongly with the idea of giving so much of yourself to others, you feel like there is nothing left; thankfully, like George, I have a host of amazing friends who are there for me when I start feeling too drained to go on.
Favourite Santa Claus: Tim Allen (The Santa Clause trilogy) Though I love many different incarnations of the jolly old elf - Edmund Gwenn in Miracle on 34th Street (1947), Kris from Santa Claus is Comin' to Town (1970), and Claus from The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus by L. Frank Baum especially come to mind - I have always felt that Tim Allen's portrayal of Santa was pretty much perfect.
Favourite Villain: Mr. Jonathan Teatime (Hogfather) Mr. Teatime (pronounced "Te-ah-tim-eh," as he always points out), falls into that small category of my favourite characters who I am genuinely afraid of, even while I adore them to no end. He's absolutely fascinating to me. He seems like a very young child in a lot of ways, one who doesn't yet really understand that other creatures have feelings, and just wants to take everything apart to see how it works.
Favourite Christmas Present: A second chance at life (A Christmas Carol) A lot of people doing this meme have been listing what they like best to receive on Christmas morning, but according to the original creator "Christmas Present, is what you think was the best present given to someone in any form of media, be it movie, TV show, extra. And yes, metaphorical presents like getting to spend time with family and such also count here." As such, I can think of no better gift than what Jacob Marley gave Ebenezer Scrooge - another chance.
Favourite Christmas TV Special: "The Most Adequate Christmas Ever" (American Dad!) I actually adore the American Dad! Christmas specials in general (especially the first three); I find them both hilarious and genuinely deeply touching. I also love the risks they take with the ideas of God, Heaven, and the afterlife.
Favourite Ship: Ebenezer Scrooge x Jacob Marley (A Christmas Carol) These two marvelous old sinners who both ruined and ultimately saved each other have been my ultimate OTP for almost my entire adult life (and as always, I have to thank @wolfenm and their wonderful story "A Conspiracy of Spirits: The Love Story of Jacob Marley and Ebenezer Scrooge" for opening me up to the idea).
Favourite Classic Christmas Song: "The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You)" by Nat King Cole I love how simple this song is. It has so much depth and warmth, without ever feeling showy.
Favourite Modern Christmas Song: "Christmas Wrapping" Glee cover (originally by The Waitresses) Yes, I know Glee covers are basically blasphemy in the music world, and I really enjoy the original Waitresses song too, but there's something fantastic to me about Heather Morris' voice in this version.
