Spoilers for the book, pre F1, pre Kristanna

The Great Ice Skating Race has finished. With a loss for the Ice Cutters. All because of her, that girl in boy's clothes.

Kristoff Björgman, standing on the sidelines as always, sipped his hot chocolate enriched with delicious cream and hazelnut syrup. The spicy sweetness brought him back to life after the hour of frantic race through the wind and snow.

He looked at the Redheaded Girl who had caused them to lose. She had overtaken him and his mates in the most daring way! She got down low, setting her silver skates one before the other in a straight line and then swiftly zipped underneath their arms. Just like that.

The Redhead Girl wasn't dressed like the other town girls. Those had dressed up in their fanciest outfits in honour of the Festival of the First Frost. No, the Redhead was dressed in boy's plain trousers, cloak and sweater. Practicality and comfort, he valued that. And her red braids were like tongues of flame as she flew past them at breakneck speed, looked back and smiled at him. Her cap fell off, and that's when everyone realised that the Redhead was a girl.

There was something so familiar about her; like a friend he has always known. It was weird.

Now she, the Second Place winner, was standing in a cheer crowd of people on the shore of snow-covered Arenfjord, congratulating the First Place, a girl in a blue hat, apparently her friend.

"You like her, don't you Kris?" The older Ice Cutter suddenly came up behind him and clapped him on the shoulder, "Because of that feisty pants, I lost the three krons I bet on us coming in first place!"

Yeah, they only came Third. Sure, they had a prize too – a new kerosene lantern, which other adult Ice Cutters had already nonchalantly handed over to Kristoff, but it was nothing compared to the gifts for the First and Second places: a hundred krons, a rosemailed saddle and a harmonica and a splendid folding knife with a screwdriver, awl and corkscrew.

"Whoa, you can't take your eyes off her, lad." The Ice Cutter chuckled, obviously mocking Kristoff's first crush.

"Are you alright?" Kristoff felt himself blushing, so he hurriedly summoned his special grumpy and unfriendly look. "What made you think such a nonsense."

"Come on, there's nothing wrong with it. Let me come over and introduce you to the lass? Don't be a troll, boy, let's get to know each other, have a chat! After all we're winners too."

It would be a strange dream: to meet in the town on one of the Yuletide Nights when the streets and buildings of Arendelle are adorned with lanterns and fir branches. To meet each other and skate together with the Redheaded Girl until their exhausted feet failed them. They might even try those tricks where the man beautifully lifts the girl high in his arms and they draw exquisite spirals on the ice with their shining skates. And then they'd sit side by side in the Town Hall Square and drink hot chocolate, he with a hazelnut syrup, she with a caramel one. There would be magic and so much fun.

The man took a few steps forward, expecting Kristoff to join him. "Kris?" Turning around, he saw no one. The younger ice cutter was gone. "Come on, Kris!..'

He took Sven, his brand new loaned sled, the lantern, and headed out into the lonely mountains. To work. Reindeers were better than people. They didn't mock your feelings.

Kristoff Björgman didn't need any of that. He'd be better off as he is.

In the 1990s, there was a short-lived fad for painting antique chairs to create pieces of art. This one was painted by Kathryn Lehotsky of Chillicothe, Ohio. The chair isn’t as early as it’s dated on the card, however. It’s a confusing, remade piece with a mixture of elements, but it’s probably mid-19th century.

Out of pure curiosity, how would you personally design Arendelle outfits for SDG?

Personally I would take a lot of inspiration from the costume design in Frozen itself, which has a lot of Scandenavian/Norwegian influence (so I’d try to utilize tiny details like rosemailing, maybe try to mingle it with the plaid that we see bits of on Sora’s jacket in KH3 in particular). Maybe a little faux fur to add extra warmth, thick gloves, curved, tipped felt boots that are also steady on ice, Goofy would have one of those fuzzy earflap hats, Donald would have earmuffs, Sora would totally wear his thick-lined hood up in that world and goddammit if I keep going on like this I’m gonna have to draw it alskdjalksdjlasd

I generally put WAAAAY too much pressure on myself to constantly come up with consistently beautiful and perfectly polished pieces. I’m trying to approach my art in a way more reminiscent of when I was in middle school and had a binder with those plastic page protectors in it. I used to store my sheet music for band in it, but I ended up getting a ton extra and would just draw and write comics and do a whole buncha doodles and stick them in there. I didn’t have the skill, i got made fun of, my art got stolen a few times, and lmao boy if one year someone didn’t write on one of my pieces “Ew it’s gay people kissing!!!” (no it’s not it’s SAKURA KINOMOTO AND SYAORAN LI YOU UNCULTURED CHILD). But I think there’s something to be said for the tenacity and stubborness of a child who only has their small grasp of the world and what they believe they can do with it. That essay outta the way. This is just some world building. Stuff i have in my head but never get down to putting on to paper. Family, glyphs, ancient symbols and languages imbued with power play a large part in the series. I wanted to get a feeling for what it could look like for various families and how it would work in practice. Some glyphs and families are intrinsically tied together, so it’s definitely not just some throw away factoid. I looked to flowers, kanji, and rosemailing for inspiration this time around. I’ll probably end up doing a few more pages of the symbols to nail down how i want this specific “language” to look like.

Nike’s magic is intrinsically tied to music. On one hand I love using that to define how her powers form. On the other hand it feels trickier to have it read quickly/cleanly and feel consistent. But I think it helps that I generally use pure white to express when she’s using magic, This is sort of a left over remnant of a woebegone time, but it does serve to contrast other story elements. So it’s stuck around.

Elsa outfit details from the new Frozen 2 trailer for cosplay/fanart reference:

- Outercoat has belt, shoulder...things that lead to two smaller separate capes on the back, large snowflake detail in the middle of her shoulderblades. The shoulderpiece looks to be a separate bit on top of the coat, and the coat is partially backless - not really a hole so much as a fade?

- Tall heeled boots with snowflake details.

- Details around the bottom of the pants which aren’t going to be relevant unless you’re cosplaying her barefoot.

- Top has no clear separation between outfit and skin; skin-colored bodysuit painted over would be ideal (like what ice skaters wear?)

- Rosemailing and belt-like details at the waist.

- The top goes into a sheer skirt section that’s cut all the way up to the waist, with the pants being a separate piece underneath. 

- The skirt has lines around the edges - the best way I could think to describe it would be sort of like a mermaid tail? It does look mermaid-y if you get her at the right angle.

Apologies for the lack of technical terms. I just really wanted some references pics so I could start working some of this into my jedi Elsa cosplay and I figured other people might too.
