The first thing Steven wants when he discovers his mom's room grants wishes is a bed.

Interestingly, when he encounters Pink's room for the first time. . . .

He immediately wants a bed, and also gets one.

But it comes about in a very different way, doesn't it!

The version of Rose's Room in the Temple creates things on Steven's spoken command (mostly), but it does so out of clouds. He can see and interact with the items in the room, but they "aren't real." They can't provide sustenance.

Very interesting that both rooms belonging to Pink/Rose at different times in her life had the "immediate generation of what she says she wants" motif but in different ways. Pink's room was powered by Pebbles who listened for her commands and tried to create them as quickly as they could (in an albeit clunky way sometimes), but everything they built was real and solid and functional. Rose's Room was elegant and beautiful and fueled entirely by imagination . . . but ultimately wasn't real and could not be sustained in the real world.

An awful lot like some of the uncomfortable truths about Rose's real life.

I think a lot of people forget that Garnet's future vision isn't, like, accurate? That's the whole point of Future Vision; Garnet sees so many timelines, and she has to pick and choose which to follow, and they aren't' always accurate. Pool Hopping reinforces that concept, with Garnet being unable to pick which future Steven will follow because she's ignored his development.

She even does it in Future! She's so sure that Steven is in the "pepperoni timeline" that she doesn't even consider that he might be taking the vegetarian option.

Garnet has an approximate knowledge of many things, and she just kinda picks which future she thinks is true based on characters and how they act. Her future vision isn't a solid thing that she can just Know how things will go down. She guesses. A lot.

this show's sincere way to understand conflict hits different when you grow older

i could pick any clip but steven's relationship with rose is just so special and intimate and important and even if she's goooooone steven somehow managed to know her real self. Even beyond being really similar to her it makes others mistake him for her, and having to deal with her hardships, despite never meeting her she was in his heart from the very start. even before he relived her memories as pink. all enhanced by this episode's conversation.

the show represented every kinds of love, and this one is a very deep, almost incomprehensible kind of family love. its living with a deceased parental figure's passive influence, and learning you are your own person from them because your OWN experiences shaped you, but they're still your half forever.

Soft and mellow most of the time, kind-of at a mid-low range, with a higher lilt when she's questioning something; or when she's particularly excited or saying something cheeky. It's pretty soothing, despite the amount of sarcastic bull-crap that falls out of her mouth half the time... One could probably sleep to it, even if she was in the middle of poking fun at them.

Sometimes, if you squint and pay close enough attention, it sounds like she has the faint ghost of an accent. It's not clear what kind.

When River wants to be intimidating though, her voice is very cold, with an authoritative, drawling monotone. She gets very intense and serious, and she'll also sibilates on her 's' sounds a little.
